WARNING: Do NOT send your dog to Glencadia Dog Camp. We paid $900 for boarding plus an extra bath. Our dog came home with a cut on his nose, filthy, and completely lethargic -- he wouldn't eat or move the next day. We rushed him to an emergency vet and discovered he had a serious skin infection and a fever. He is now on two weeks of antibiotics and has to wear a cone of shame. Total cost to us: $1,500 in emergency vet bills on top of the $900 we already paid them. When we contacted Glencadia, they refused to reimburse us or even have a real conversation about what happened. Their response was essentially: "you signed a disclaimer, sue us." They never emailed or called us to let us know our dog was injured or unwell during his stay. I'm writing this on behalf of a close friend who recently had a very upsetting experience with Glencadia Dog Camp, and honestly, it was concerning enough that I felt it was important to share. She chose Glencadia because of how it presents itself--as a premier dog camp with attentive care, strong communication, and a safe, well-managed environment. Unfortunately, that was not her experience. While her dog was in their care, she received an email saying the dog had a cut "about the size of a nickel," that it might not be serious, and that they weren't sure how it happened. She was then asked what she wanted to do, rather than the staff taking immediate action. As a dog owner who was not nearby, this put her in a very stressful and unfair position. When she picked up her dog, the reality was far more serious. The wound was clearly much worse than described and extremely alarming to see in person. It was not minor, and it was difficult to understand how it had been communicated that way. What's most concerning is that: They could not explain how the injury occurred The severity of the wound was minimized The dog was not taken to a veterinarian immediately, despite mention that stitches might be needed I understand that facilities have liability policies, but that doesn't excuse a lack of transparency or failure to take appropriate care when an animal is injured. Watching my friend go through this--feeling shocked, upset, and let down after trusting them with her dog--was really difficult. No pet owner should have to question what happened to their dog or whether proper care was given. If you're considering Glencadia, I would strongly urge you to think twice and ask very detailed questions about how injuries are handled--because this experience was not what anyone would expect from a place with their reputation. read more

I've sent my dog Leo to Glencadia dog camp a grand total of four times and three of those days were a week long or more. He had a great time each time he went and although there were a few small incidents where he has been slightly injured, this was just due to him running around and potentially sliding into trees or branches like the silly goober he is. These were promptly reported and they made sure to keep the cuts and bruises well attended to. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the dog romps that Will posts to their Instagram page as well as the photo updates that are shared. The new tagging system that uses AI to automatically find Leo's photos within the daily photo sets is super convenient as well. The van service has been a godsend, especially for me as a non-car owner in New York City. And pickup and drop off is always very seamless. I continue to be a customer and Leo continues to be a client at Glencadia and I look forward to using them again in the future! read more

Animal Cruelty Horror Show I arrived at the facility to pick up our trained therapy golden retriever after a short July 4th stay. Calling repeatedly and beeping at the closed gate, I let myself in, discovering to my horror several traumatized and dirty animals. My Wynn, a docile and always happy boy, was brought to me in a total state of panic. His coat was absolutely filthy. He was soaking wet. In the car ride home, his stench permeating my car; he slept in the backseat, utterly exhausted. After two baths, we discovered ghastly wounds around his neck. We took Wynn to the vet for kennel cough, and they put him on antibiotics for his injuries. The most disturbing part is that he is in a state of doggy PTSD and will not leave my side. Of course, he can't tell us what went on at Glencadia Dog Camp. But maybe that's for the best. I don't think I could handle the whole story! read more

Moved to Brooklyn at the top of the year, knew I had a vacation coming up in July - and was already worried about where to send my sweet pup, Nora. Spoke to Bri at Etta Salon (which I also highly recommend) and she shared I should send my pup to Glencadia! Went through with the booking, and am SO glad that I did! The free-van pick up arrived, and off she went. Nora returned home exhausted from all the fun and one happy pup. Truly cannot recommend Glencadia enough - allows those city dogs to truly go run free and be dogs! Ps. I've been sending Nellie to Glencadia for about 5 years now, ever since I moved to the city and started traveling! She's about 9 years old and still has a blast, though I'm sure she spends more time sleeping then playing these days. She races to the van when it comes. First, if you Google more extensively you will find some scary reviews of this place. Please don't make the mistake I did by looking only at the positive reviews. I have no wish to ruin anyone's career with negative public posts; I never leave reviews that are less than glowing, to be honest. But my experience at Glencadia was really bad, and I want other loving dog owners to know. First, I wonder if part of why there are mixed reviews is the shuttle service, which is very convenient for NYCers but which prevents pup owners from seeing the really poor and unsafe conditions in which these dogs are kept. I had the misfortune of sending my dog there in the fall of 2021 (to be honest, I've tried not to think about this experience and avoided writing about it--when I stumbled into Glencadia online recently, I decided to write an honest review). I dropped him off myself, and I was disturbed by what I saw: The supposedly heated facilities were freezing cold (the employees all wore hats and coats inside). There were piles of dog poop in a barn like enclosure in which many dogs were kept. The pups were all barking at the time, a supervisor was milling about (but not cleaning up the poop that the dogs were all stepping around), and the space generally was not very large--not large enough for the # of dogs in there along with piles of poop everywhere. (It's not like it was a huge field with a few turds lying around. This was a relatively small space and it was overcrowded with anxious, stressed out dogs.) The employee nodded to one dog who had been there for a long-term stay. I was appalled at how scrawny the dog looked (I've owned dogs for years; we all know what a generally healthy dog looks like) and the employee made a comment about how many dogs lose weight while they were there. I thought to myself that this dog looked downright ill, but brushed it off--who knows, maybe the dog was sick before it arrived at Glencadia and its emaciation was unrelated to conditions there. Another dog I saw was very obviously shivering. Again, I thought to myself that maybe he/she had some kind of condition and it was unrelated to the freezing upstate November weather. However, what really bothered me was how anxious my own dog seemed. I've been taking him to dog daycare and overnight places for years and never seen him react with such anxiety--barking, trying to jump up over the gate to get to me, etc. No wonder he was anxious: The place was understaffed, overstuffed, freezing cold, and filthy. The dogs did not seem happy. At all. They seemed anxious. I should have taken my dog right then, but I was supposed to catch a flight the next day and felt torn. I wondered if I was being over-protective. On the flight to Thanksgiving, however, I researched this place more. I saw it had multiple lawsuits and accusations of dog deaths. I thought back to how uncharacteristically anxious my dog seemed, how cold the place seemed despite their proclamation that it was heated, how inattentive the employees were, how it reeked of dog poop, how emaciated the one dog looked and how the other was shivering, and how I generally had a terrible feeling in my gut. Again, I've kept dogs for years. I have never had an experience this poor. I decided to cut my holiday short, rented a car, and drove it upstate the day after my flight landed in order to go get my dog. I found a dogsitter I trusted, brought him there, and he had a happy remainder of his vacation. I cannot stress enough: This was a disturbing experience. If this place has changed dramatically since 2021, I hope they offer a detailed guided tour of their land, barn, heating facilities, etc. for anyone considering booking there. Based on Kevin S.'s one-star review, however, it appears his experience is aligned with mine. I will never bring or send my dog here again. I'm glad some dogs seem to enjoy it--thank goodness--based on reviews, but I'd encourage folks to proceed with very, very healthy caution and to explore this place on their own or with a detailed video tour before booking. To the Glencadia owners: I wish you well. However, I have read your various defenses online and none if it excuses what I and others have witnessed. This isn't a case of urban expectations vs. country life. You are misrepresenting your care and attention of these animals, and must do better. read more

Glencadia sounded like a pups dream so we decided to give them a try with our first dog (Venice). We were happy to have her home but each time we would book a trip and the Glencadia van would come (free pick up on Mondays and Thursdays was also a HUGE bonus with Glencadia) our dog would pull us to the van and hop right in. She knew what was coming. We have sent our new puppy (Bear) twice in the past 6 months and he really seems to be enjoying it as well. This is such an amazing camp and escape for my pup when I need to travel. My Pup Wyatt just spent a week upstate at Glencadia over thanksgiving break. We had tested glencadia a couple weeks prior to see how he would do, leaving him for 3 days. We used the shuttle pick up service as we live in the city. What surprised me was when the shuttle came by to pick up Wyatt the second time around, he was so excited that he jumped into the van, as if he knew where he was going. Silly me, I didn't do the proper research about Glencadia, I am ashamed that I didn't investigate reviews beforehand properly. And let me tell you something after panicking about my dogs safety at this horror movie, I googled Glencadia and it wasn't nice. If you google and do a quick research, you are going to find a horror movie worse than I can type here. Reviews and photos unimaginable. And when I say horror, I mean dogs had died and been cremated. People are begging to shut this place down. (and for good reason) I got my dog back, skinnier and sadder than ever. From the happiest and healthiest dog, I got a dog scared, frightened, and full of rashes. His stool was full of objects for days. He wouldn't leave my side for over a month. To reenact our experience, After the fifth day of his stay, we had reason to be alarmed that something was very wrong, so we called over and over again until we got a response, and we were denied the ability to pick up our dog. We had to take extraordinary measures beyond thinkable to recover our dog. We succeeded in a desperate act only to discover half the dog we sent. If you love your dog, stay away from this nightmare place called Glencidia. To add more insult to actual injury, The next day, the owner called us and emphatically told us, "Only 1000 dogs have died there over the last 17 years and what a great track record they have". The pros- pickup in manhattan, lots of room for the dogs to run around, pricing is reasonable, the pickup/drop off drivers are lovely. Loved the videos, could tell the dogs have fun. The cons- challenging staff to interact with, nobody picks up the phone, changing dates while your dog is up there is a nightmare, dog came back with an injury- they'd only emailed to let my husband know about the wound on her ribs that was probably from a bite and likely needed stitches (healed eventually but she now has a scar). I'm the primary account contact and didn't hear about it until my dog was brought back home. I wouldn't send our dog back, it's too bad the admin side of the business is a mess, an easy outlet for dogs in the city is so needed. read more

After sending her there for a month last year while I was away on a job, I Just got my girl, Ruby, back from her second stay at Glencadia, this time for 5 days. Both times she came home happy, healthy, and ready to conk out for a long sleep after blissfully playing and living among the pack there at camp. A high energy dog with a bit of a leash reactive tendency here in the city, she came home clearly more at ease and with a touch less edge than she usually has here in the city. The pickup and drop off service has been incredibly convenient. But this time I did wind up dropping her off at camp myself, as it was somewhat on my way. It was great to see the place and spend some time with some of the dog handlers there. Good people and a good vibe. The dogs all seem happy and it was apparent that the facilities, outdoor space, and personal attention given to the dogs make for an ideal place for a dog to spend anywhere from a few days to a few months. I trusted Glencadia to care for my dog when I was out of town for 10 days but what I came back to was a nightmare. My partner had to reschedule his flight to come a few days earlier than he was suppose to because of the state my dog was in. During Killua's entire stay, I was told he was fine. There were messages about him not eating enough when he first got there but after I was told "he is eating fine" and was not notified further about his eating habits. I texted Glencadia almost everyday checking up on him and I was assured that he was okay. About 2 hours Killua was suppose to be dropped off to me, I received a text saying he was "looking thin" and that "he may have been that thin when he came". I thought it was odd that they were only mentioning this now but I remained optimistic that "looking thin" meant a little weight loss. When I was handed my dog I was horrified when I felt him. He felt so light and all I could feel was bone. It was when I took off his sweater did I realize the serious state my dog was in. The moment he was dropped off to me he was having constant diarrhea every 2 hours. I can't fit everything onto this review but Killua had multiple vet visits as he was diagnosed with Giardia, UTI and ring worm. He saw 2 different doctors and even they were shocked of his condition. Will kept saying that Killua got giardia with me in the city which I believe was impossible because there was that big snow storm the week of Dec. 18th and Killua was using pee pads during that time. But let's say Killua did get giardia with me and I unknowingly sent him to Glencadia with it. It was still Glencadia's responsibility to check on his well-being and to notice any signs of him being sick those 10 days. I felt like they did not really take a good look at Killua until he got his bath to be sent home (i.e the text message sent about him looking thin). Will refunded the money for Killua's stay, which we appreciated. But his total vet bills came out to be $1100 (a breakdown of his vet bill pictured). We wanted compensation for that as we believe that was the least they could do. My dog was only 9 months and in his puppy years which is an integral time for a dog's growth. Will offered us $200. I refused his offer as that barely covers the vet bill and after calling and texting them they have yet to respond. read more

My dog Tigger stayed there from Mar 23 to Apr 11, it's one of the most horrifying experiences I have had. - During his stay, no one reported any issue to me - On Apr 10, I was asked if I would volunteer to pick him up on Apr 12 instead of Apr 11 cos they had a lot to drop off because of Easter. I agreed to accommodate - On Apr 12 before I got him dropped off by their van crew, I received the text saying Tigger got a mild hot spot skin infection - Took me hours to get hold of someone who said what's on the text (see photo) was exaggerated and he wouldn't worry about it - I demanded Tigger to be dropped off no later than 5:30pm so I could take him to the vet immediately - At 5pm they said they were running late and there's nothing they could do. - I said I would report to authority if he's not dropped off on time. They then compromised to drop him at the vet clinic directly. - At the clinic, the vet was shocked as it looked nothing like infection but lots of wounds. From the vet record, 'multiple scrapes and scabbed wound along all limbs, L lat thorax, ear pinna tips AU, tail tipped, alopecic tail tip w/ hard blood scab; ~2.5 inch long oval erythematous raw lesion w/ scabbing on ventral abdomen cranial to prepuce, erythematous prepucial tip, multiple areas of dried blood in fur; no fleas or flea dirt noted'. - He also lost about 10% of bodyweight, from 27.5lb to 24.5lb. The Columbia County Sheriff Office has filed a report for me which I'm requesting a copy as I am writing. I have the full vet report on hand as well. I emailed the same to the owner a few weeks back but no response at all until now. read more

Terrific place. My dogs are actually eager when I bring them -- unlike my former boarding places where they didn't want to go (one of mine is especially anxious). The team is great and makes the dogs feel good-- and they seem to have so much fun playing with the other dogs. Maddie is a senior dog who has been going to Glencadia for as long as I've had her, nearly 11 years. While she has gotten older and is not able to play and romp as much as she used to, she still loves it there and eagerly jumps into the van when it arrives at our home. They take such good care of her, and even give her a private space in the barn so she's not overwhelmed with the younger and more energetic dogs. This was Pearl's second time at Glencadia dog camp - it was worth every dollar spent on her. Pearl, our little whippet puppy can be very shy at times and we were a little anxious about leaving her for 2 weeks (I think we were suffering more from separation anxiety than our dog!) The daily photo updates and videos on the Glencadia social platforms put us at ease very quickly - Pearl looked like she was having the best time ever! The bus pick up and drop off was extremely efficient, Pearl even recognised the member of the team who picked her up from her last stay. I left my dog (a 16-month-old cockapoo) at Glencadia for seven days over the holidays. Actually, Glencadia picked him up and drop him off at the exactly time they said they would do - really convenient. About his time there .. well, it was his first time in a dog camp and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. He is still a puppy, so he may use this time to burn off some energy, different from the last dog boarding where he did not have enough space to play and got really bored. This time I could see he was pleased by his expression. Additionally, Glencadia Time was also very attentive, providing him with the fresh food and medications I sent, and a lot of love.
