Tried to help this place with a good review, because I liked the pizza. But to be honest the vibe was a little off. Was dimly lit, and uninviting. Needed more windows or something, and a clearer vision for the decor and experience. You ordered at a front counter that felt like a you were in an impromptu kitchen. Then go into what had the feeling of a youth club, with beat up board games and furniture. If I'm dropping near 40 bucks for a small high end pizza, I want the atmosphere to match. They really should have had a fast and cheaper pizza by the slice option to take advantage of the UCSC bus stop. read more

It is super nice to have a tasty spot that is open later on the westside, where most restaurants close promptly at 8 or 9. And the pizza was delicious! Really solid 4 pieces of Detroit style with tasty toppings and fun options. We for the "almost maui," but it was cool to see how many vergitarian options there where. Looking forward to trying more! They had a lager on tap, which was pretty exciting given their limited options and the IPA heavy focus in this town (). The owner was really nice and came over to see how we liked the beer and food. I see some people complaining about the price, but Detroit style pizza is really filling! Two pieces is a whole dinner, and at $12.50 (most average $25 a pie here) it is hard to find a cheaper dinner in town. Despite the three star rating, I actually do recommend D20. I'm just not a huge fan of pizza, personally, and these reviews are for me, first and foremost. The pizzas were $20-25 for a square, four slice pizza. Very thick crust and very rich flavor that I personally found overwhelming. I preferred the normal cheese pizza to the mushroom one, as the tomato sauce helped cut the heaviness of the flavor. They also had a variety of soft drinks in a fridge by the entrance. They have two arcade games, and a board game on every table. It really felt like a community space in progress. When I visited they clearly weren't completely settled, with some dark corners that seemed to be waiting for new lighting and other similar small things but I expect they'll be fixed over time. Less likely to be changed is that it feels a little odd inside with how few windows there are. It is on the corner of a busy street, so that insulation might be a benefit for sound pollution. The service was friendly, but behind the counter or in the kitchen so I didn't get much interaction to make a judgment on. There was music playing at a good volume, and plenty of parking as well as being right next to a bus stop. read more

This was cooked to perfection.. perfect crisp all around, just the right amount of crunch, on a hot Detroit-style pizza. It tastes to me like quality ingredients - no post-"oh, I shouldn't have eaten junk food" feeling like most pizzas, whether served or at home. I'm a big guy but could only stuff myself with three out of four pieces - so it's pretty filling, and thick, but the dough is on point. Every bit and bite was delicious. And I feel great. What tops it off is the ambiance in there - no harsh lighting, but as the title suggests, a chill place to be and hang out. Clean, with more than several board games, and an arcade machine. I'm sitting here writing this review while eating the one leftover piece of pizza from D20 because I couldn't resist knowing it was in the fridge. That's how freaking good this pizza is -- it will take over your thoughts. We ordered the cheese pizza but I wanna come back and try them all. I'm from the east coast and something about this pizza was so nostalgic and authentic, it was one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. We really liked the games they had there, but unfortunately the pizza and two drinks we ordered was 37 dollars which is really expensive. The crust was very hard to eat and it was a bit strange that we had silverware and paper plates. read more

Great new addition to the West Side Tried this new spot serving deep dish and were pleasantly surprised -- the pizza was excellent. High-quality ingredients, great flavor, and perfectly cooked. Expensive lackluster knockoff Detroit-style pizza. Born and raised in Detroit, my expectations were a bit high, hoping to be transported back to memories of Buddy's pizza or our local Sub Stop, having a Vernors float with Ray's ice cream. Other than offering a pan pizza with crusted cheese there were no other similarities and no nostalgic musings. The dough lacked a flavor in the fermentation that is unique to Detroit-style, and the thickness was off. Kudos for offering something different here in Santa Cruz but please don't call it Detroit. Some of the best pizza on the Westside! Glad to have them in the neighborhood. They do half-and-half pizzas, so we got two pizzas (half original, half Detroiter, half summer veggie and half mushroom) and all 4 styles were fantastic. The pizzas are on the smaller side, but are very hearty - one pizza is enough for two people in my household. Will definitely be back, and highly recommend checking them out! read more

We had three pizzas today for lunch at the office. They were all great. They had thick sort of focaccia like crust. There was a tasty crunchy little burn at the edges that could have been crust or cheese. The vegetable pizza had a little corn and fresh tomatoes. looking forward to going back. I've stopped here a few times and it's quickly become one of my favorite pizza spots in Santa Cruz. Wish there were some cheaper alternatives/options for college students, like just getting a slice at a time because as much as my friends and I love how good the food is, it's hard to come here as often as we want since we don't want to break the bank. Saw this new place when driving by. Called and asked if they sold slices. The owner told me in a condescending tone "no we sell pizza" and hung up the phone. Absolutely trash service.
