Could be for deer season, or rebuilding the range, all needed, but there is no way to find out until you pull in the driveway. Once they had a sign up saying they were going to open an hour late. There were over twenty people waiting, and we were some of the last to leave, two an a half hours later. They have no website or working telephone. They explained that the phone is for calling out in an emergency. There isn't any way to contact them. The last time I was there, the gates open at11:30 and shooting starts at 12:00 and goes to 4:00 PM. Between 11:30 and 12:00, the range master explains the safety rules. The charge was $10.00 for the day and teens under eighteen were free with a FOID card holder supervision. The only drawback was the lack of communication!

I found one eight blocks from me. Problem: they closed their business and told no one. Next, I looked again for a close proximity instructor/class. Found one who was an "attorney" (that's what I was told). Made the date for the class, we agreed that I would take the Metra out to his location and he would pick me. Got on the train in the city and went out to his Metra stop. He was a no-show - got stood up. SOOOO, having finally learning my lesson, I looked on Yelp for a reputable 5-star rating CCL instructor. Top Shot Academy and instructor Chip Eberhart. Taking Chip's class was unbelievably thorough and so complete with regard to every detail, well, I'll say I plan to never loose touch with this remarkable guy and Top Shot Academy ! His experience and continuing ongoing firearm education (including and great wit and sense of humor - can I say that ?) makes him a paragon of his profession ! Alan

The place can be a bit hard to find as it's in this very tiny strip mall and you figure a gun range has to be somewhat big to accommodate the ranges. Right? Well, here the entire store and range is underground, so the entrance is literally nothing but a door which leads directly to a set of steps going down. The store and range certainly show their age and have been well used. But, from a business perspective this apparently keeps the overhead low as I find the prices here very reasonable! As for the range, the check in process here is perhaps the easiest of all ranges in the area. These guys are very accommodating and I like that fact that they encourage openly on bringing your kids along. The range itself is cramped and very loud. Okay, yea I know we are shooting off guns here and things just get loud, but here, the sounds really reverberate and I can really feel the shock wave at times when a .357 or higher is being used. I don't get this feeling at other ranges. The range can also get a little smokey at times. Despite these conditions, I really do like coming here as I get the feeling of being welcomed and I just feel very comfortable at these ranges. Some of my tightest patterns have been shot here and I think it has to do that I'm very relaxed when coming to this range. If you can, it seems that during the week days, just at opening time, the ranges is generally not as packed and I find it a great time to come.

Very knowledgeable and patient with everything I tossed their way! Brian took his time and helped narrow down an overwhelming selection to what will fit my needs. Thanks for that! I typically plan on "only looking" whenever I stop in but often fail. (Thank God for an understanding wife). That said, I'm very pleased with my purchases and will definitely continue to give my business with CY! As for the range, it's what Brian classifies as "old-school". Nothing fancy but, come on... what do you need other than a safe lane and a target to practice? This checks the box! My wife even likes the hand-crank to send the target out and back rather than the electronic controls. There's always been at least 1 lane ready and waiting whenever I've been there. As a guy, I don't put much emphasis in the bathrooms at a business but my wife really does appreciate a clean and stocked facility which CY has! It was just totally re-done! Husbands all know that it's a drag when you have to leave somewhere that you are having fun only to find your wife a bathroom that's up to her standards. Ugh... Now I can stay as long as I want! Trapshooting in the city…read more This place is located right in the middle of a neighborhood. As you drive onto the property it has the feel of a camp ground but you can see houses lined along the sides of the property. There is a nice pond on the property, 2 outhouses, and a main cabin like lodge. When you enter the lodge you find yourself being transported back many years ago to a boys club type atmosphere. The place was packed with people waiting around. I through they were all waiting for a lane to open up but I soon realized that they were just hanging out, socializing and playing card games on old wooden tables and benches. Once you purchase a round of trapshooting, head out and get your gear ready as your name is called rather quickly. Walk over to the lane you are assigned to and once all 5 people are ready then the first person yells "pull" and the automated machine throws a clay pigeon out. Go down the line and repeat 5 times. Then each person rotates to the next station/different position. Each person will get to shoot at 25 clay pigeons. I had a great time and can't wait to come back.
