Mr. Kazuma guided me through my options with the entire board spectrum, from where I surf, my body measurements, and how I wanted to ride. I was hesitant purchasing my first board and they made me eel comfortable with my decision and earned my trust. I highly recommend anyone from a beginner to a pro to stop in at Kazuma Surf Shop.

(I was present so he was able to see my size and take that into consideration to best customize the size and shape of the board). The best board I've ever had! and although I didn't quite believe him when he had said (regarding it's versatility) I wouldn't need another board, I now have experienced that to be an accurate statement :) Upon first viewing, in full transparency, I was a little concerned as I thought it was too narrow for my skill level; but it's actually exactly what I needed. Even in the initial paddle out, I could tell a difference and that this was going to be a great board! ..and it is! It took me about 9-12 sessions to get acclimated to the shorter length, but even during that curve I was catching more waves. Fun board! Great board, and nice looking board! Matt was right (on all counts); I need only this board :) Trust him; he knows what he's doing!

We ventured down the infamous dirt path in a Jeep--I've owned one for over 15 years, so I felt confident handling rough terrain. And for the most part, it was fine. Bumpy, yes. Deep ruts and uneven sections? Absolutely. But manageable--until the last 1/8 mile or so. That's when the signs got louder (figuratively), and after passing several stern warnings from locals advising tourists to turn back, I decided to take the advice seriously. We parked, hopped out, and walked the rest of the way in. The number of cars lining the path increased from there. The walk down gave us a few extra moments to soak in the stillness and anticipation. The air shifts as you approach the bluff--it's humbling. Even without massive winter swells, the place feels alive, like it's holding its breath until the next set rolls in. If you're planning the trip: -4WD is a must just to make it most of the way. Don't even try it without clearance. -That said, don't feel the need to "prove" anything--walking the last bit is smart, not soft. -No facilities, no vendors--pack water, sun protection, and your respect. The road to Jaws isn't just about the surf--it's about choosing to approach something powerful with awareness. It can certainly be worth a trip even on foot and I can't imagine what it's like in the winter. I'd make sure to talk to a local in Paia before making the trek.
