This is the best location out of all the Hi-tech stores. Parking is really difficult (hence not a 5 star review) but other than that, the workers make you feel welcomed and at home. This was the only location I felt comfortable in. I frequent the main location often and the mall location every now and then but the customer service is the best at the paia store. They are fully stocked and have stuff that some of the other two stores don't carry. I'd definitely come again and refer people to visit this location first. read more

I come here often , spend thousands of dollars here alone this year as I live up the streets and my girls like shopping here . Walked in the other day with my son who is 4 and autistic and he doesn't wear a mask most of the time because he can't , we've tried and he is doing better . The old man who is always there and had helped me before with his own mask down yells and my son "hey boy put your mask on " I told him that he is not wearing one because he is autistic , as I'm trying to grab my son to exit the store he goes in on ho my son should put a mask on because he is going to infect him ... mean while the old man had his mask down on his chin . On our way back up from lunch the only man was still wearing his mask on his chin . Never spending a dime here . read more

NO ALOHA SPIRIT HERE. The shop merchandise is fine, but the staff is really a disappointment. They have poor customer service skills and not really interested in the task at hand. I received no acknowledgement while shopping in the store, and even purchased an item- found it on my own. A couple days later, I was again in the area shopping at the fabulous MANA Foods grocery and heard some loud voices coming from Hi-Tech. As I looked across the street, I saw an employee literally arguing with a customer and closing the door in her face. My time on Maui is precious and I don't know why the staff at Hi-Tech are so disengaged. Perhaps they are just there for the great surfing, and not the working. read more

Nice little, local surf shop. Good selection. The three stars is for the "dark cloud of doom" attitude of the people working there, which goes a few steps beyond mere disinterest in providing customer service. I've been there twice and both times had the experience that the clerks were making an effort to cast the the pale shadow of unfriendliness my way. This is not the usual reaction I get from people so it's not just me... Anyway, I didn't find the reef slippers I was looking for and ended up going all the way to Lahaina to pick them up (I had called around to find the pair I wanted). Although I like Paia much better, I found that Lahaina had many more shops and more competitive pricing... read more

This is a good place to rent a board (or windsail equipment). They give you a board, bag, and hard racks for your car. The location is very convenient - it's a few blocks from the airport in Kalahui. The customer service, on the other hand, is best summed as " No can". I agree with Ellis' assessment. I also got the vibe of disinterest in helping as well as frank rudeness. Oh yeah... Came on vacation and could not bring boards as a result of kids, car seats, strollers etc. Found this place next to the grocery store. What a gem. Matt the manager hooked it up and gave me basically a brand new pod mod merrick for $20 a day with a board rack to go with it. Can't wait to do business with these guys again...mahalo. read more

Great selection of reasonably priced clothing and gear for girls and guys-- surfboard rentals are also available, I believe. The guy who runs it is super friendly and honestly I could've spent all day in there, but managed to limit myself to a new bikini and a Hinano tshirt for the brother back home. read more

This store is my one stop shop for surf and skate equipment! This is my 2nd review. Why? Because this place deserves a 2nd review from me. I came in last week to get a new skateboard for my son. i had to get a new skate deck, skate wheels, trucks, etc.. The sales clerk, Zander put the whole skateboard together for my son and my son skated out of the shop w/in 15 min to to skatepark. Zander gave my son a tutorial on how to assemble a skateboard from scratch. What other sales clerk does that for a 9 yr. old? I offered Zander a tip and he refused the tip telling me that it is his job to give quality service. WOw! The manager must be training their workers correctly b/c they are nothing but nice and helpful every time i walk in the door! Thank you Hi tech for amazing service and prices! I will not shop anywhere else b/c i found my one stop sports shop! read more

Very disappointed with the service here, the man renting us boards was very bizarre, boasting about his own abilities but not actually helping us find what we needed. When asked for a recommendation on a break, he suggested that we come back in April, when there were actually waves breaking all around island as we explored. There was a distinct lack of aloha spirit, so if you have the option to rent from somewhere else I would recommend that. read more

We were in Maui to surf and needed to rent some boards. Gianpaolo was our surfboard sherpa who helped us find great boards for the conditions. He's very knowledgeable, friendly and has a great blog, too, where he shares a daily morning forecast. Great store! My husband and I were on the hunt for the commemorative Eddie Aikau Quiksilver t-shirt as a gift for my father. As soon as we walked in, Shawn greeted us and directed us right to what we were looking for. He also helped us pick out the right color, and gave us an awesome poster to go along with the shirt. It can be overwhelming to shop around the stores throughout Paia, but the low-pressure, friendly atmosphere of Hi tech was a breath of fresh air. read more

BUYER BEWARE I, Robert's wife, went into this store because I was looking for a new pair of sandals. To my delight, I found a pair in the sale bucket that I thought would be perfect (I couldn't try them all the way on because of all of the tags attached) AND ended up purchasing their most expensive rash guard. While I was trying the rash guard on, one of the store attendants began unlocking the dressing room door. He didn't check to see if anyone was in there, not even with a simple knock. I hadn't thought ahead to wear my bathing suit under my clothes, but luckily, when he opened the door and came in I already had the rash guard on, so it wasn't too big of a deal. The next day, I removed all of the tags from the sandals and put them on and it turned out that the straps on one shoe were totally stretched out to the point where the shoe wouldn't even stay on my foot. When we went back to exchange them, the "assistant manager" (an 18 or 19 year old guy who was definitely in the wrong business) said that nothing could be done because returns of sale items was against store policy. I get it, man. Sale items are often nonreturnable. But when the merchandise is defective, you make an exception to the policy. Always. If you can't stand by your merchandise, you shouldn't expect anyone to stand by you. The sandals were only $20 (they were half-off), but even still, it's $20 I had to throw in the trash. So just beware. If you visit this store, barricade the dressing room door if you dare venture in. And ask them to remove all the tags on the merchandise so that you can check for defects before you buy. Unless you like throwing away money. Then definitely purchase your stuff here. Otherwise, spend your money at any of the other dozens of surf shops in Paia. read more
