Rented two boards for five days. Mark was cool and loaned me racks (after tightening the straps make sure you pull up on the tabs so the teeth dig in and they do not let go). I swapped one board halfway through, which was free. Great board, great advice, and great products. It may be the best surf store I visit and I have been to many. Hi-Tech has excellent customer service! Wow! I came in the wrong door and Steve, who was working on a surfboard, dropped everything to go help me find roof rack pads. Then he put them on to see if they fit! That's what I call customer service! And on return visits, other staff have helped me find things too, answer questions, suggest ideas, the lot. Ordered a new foil SUP and it turned out I was a foil SUCK... too small, too advanced but Steve said to just ship it back and he will exchange it for something more grommable? kook-friendly? I recently rented a SUP Foil board from Hi-Tech for 4 days. They have a great selection of equipment in excellent condition (the carbon paddle they gave me was brand new). Rental prices are very fair. It was great to be able to come back to the shop and switch board at anytime. The best part was the service. JP is the guy who helped me and he had great advice on the equipment, where to foil, etc. He really cared, and was genuinely trying to make sure I had the best time foiling on Maui. On another occasion I stopped at the shop to ask for advice on where to foil and another person (didn't ask for his name) also gave me great advice. Those guys played a big role in making my trip a success. I very highly recommend Hi Tech if you're coming to Maui for water and wind sports. read more

This place was great! The sis and I rented our boards for the week here and Allan really worked with us to find the right boards, which came with board covers, a car rack and enough wax to get us through our first couple of days of surfing. We also set up a lesson there with Kiva and he was helped us make the best of some smallish surf. He gave us great tips on the island and taught us how to pronounce the name of the island right in front of us so that we could impress the locals (Kahoolawe, pounced ka-oh-ho-lave, though, alas, no one was really impressed). Also, the nice clerk at the Paia branch let us store our boards for the day so we could hike around Makawao after surfing in Paia (we were staying in Kaanapali and it would have been an hour and a half to drop off our boards and come back). read more

He helped me with my dog who was sitting in my hot car, he cleaned all the wax off my board, & brought it in and made sure it fit in the bag bc I was concerned it wouldn't. I stopped by when they had a tent sale in their parking lot. Great place to pick up outer wear, shorts, T-shirts, flip flops... I'll usually load up on Hawaii T's as they are the bulk of the T's in my closet... =) If your snorkeling, pick up a surfing T-shirt and it will save your back from sunburn. They are very thin and made for water. read more

This place needs to greet all their customers and I mean all customers , especially if you're a local and brown. We have money and want to buy things. Not there to steal . Used to live here in Maui but now stuck on the main land. Hi-Tech has been around for ever and always maintained their shop as one of the most well stocked surf shop I have ever been in. Even though windsurfing is not as popular as it used to be, Hi-Tech has evolved well with the times and not stuck in yesteryears. There is still plenty of gear that are great and current to rent. Now you can also rent Stand up paddle board and sailboards...etc. You can come back anytime you are there to trade stuff out for the day as well. Bonus. I still see a couple of the same faces working there from my days. A tribute to how well they run things. Love my time in Maui again and will always go to Hi-Tech for all my gear and surf wear. read more

Got roof rack for our car. The service was good. They are very knowledgeable of car type, rack type, purpose of use, color selections...etc. I would recommend this is where to get roof racks for your car for all your water sports and other uses. We paid about the same amount of money that we would have online+shipping. They did a very good job on the installation as well. read more

I've shopped the Kihei Hi tech many times and they have always been friendly and helpful. Last week I went into the Kahului store and again was given excellent friendly service. But then today when I went to return a water case housing that I had just purchased and was not functioning properly for my under water photography needs. The sales person was extremely rude and literally argued with me for 20 minutes not wanting to return the equipment (and I had the receipt and everything ) the manger finally came over and told him to return . I am just in aww over the extreme poor customer service! And will not be spending any more money at that store again . read more

This place is awesome. We got so many cool things here. If you're a tourist like we are, you will find it super cool to get some souvenirs that aren't at all tacky. We can wear them at home without feeling like nerds, because they use the brands we love. We did get a cup, and didn't realize it until we had gotten it back to our cruise ship that it had a crack in it, so that was disappointing. If we could have gone back, we would have to exchange. I've been shopping at this shop for over 10 years. I decided to give them a 5* review today because their service was well beyond 5*s. In previous visits, they consistently go above and beyond to make sure you get what you need. However today when I was browsing, the sales associate was speaking fluent Japanese to a couple groups of Japanese customers. I was blown away. He was thorough, took his time and made them feel at ease during their $700+ surfboard purchase. They walked out with everything hey needed. Then he helped me check out (in English).
