Every time we are in Maui, a trip to Maui Tropix is a must. I needed to get a decal for my new car and a few other items. They have no online store and everything can only be purchased on the island. The service is super friendly as always. The Kihei and the Kahului locations are always packed to the brim with merch so there are always plenty to choose from. We went to this Maui Tropix today. We were greeted upon arrival. The gal wiring cane to check on us on how we were doing. We are laughing at sure if the shirts that they had. It was too funny. Visited Maui Tropix on the trip and I was happy to see the store full of Maui built products. I picked up 2 t-shirts a tank top and a shirt and some surf shorts. Another Maui Tropix location in Kihei, with lots of the Maui Built stuff just like the Kahului store! Although this one is a bit smaller, it still has a great selection of items and it's conveniently located in a shopping center so you can do your one stop shopping here. Parking isn't a problem as there is lots of it out here. The staff is just as friendly and helpful as the Kahului store. You will find the same sticker selection, shirts, shorts, towels and more. Yes, they sell surfboards too! Prices are average for the merchandise. I personally think they are a little high, but again it's exclusive to Maui and you can't really get it anywhere else. If you're looking for souvenirs to give to family and friends, I recommend checking this place out. They are very patient and will also have suggestions if you don't know where to start. Maui Tropics Kihei, went to return an item my daughter purchased an hour earlier, I asked for a refund and in a hasty manner she said no refunds, you can get a store credit. I indicated that I would prefer a refund due to the purchase being an hour earlier and in a hasty, rude and disrespectful manner she said "we don't do that especially because it's posted right in front of your face". she identified herself as the manager. I would recommend people look at other places for their purchases that provide better customer service and better prices! read more

Great staff and great gear - we loved this place and bought many items to "buy local"

The products and apparel are nice. Everything about the store is nice...however, one of the cashiers could be a little more friendlier. The vibe was off and just overall experience was kinda bleh...(hope the owner reads this) even though I'm from the "other" island I have not experience any sales cashiers acting all Himakamaka to me. Needs more training. If it wasn't for the other cashier to mention that the clothing I was buying shrinks a little I would of been pissed. Buying a nice piece of clothing only to have it shrink and then be stuck with it cuz I live on the other island unable to return. But it is what it is. read more

I always read other people's review before I state mine just to see if I am on point. This time I feel everyone overrates this shop. The only reason I left a 3 is because it is the only shop like it. I have roots in Maui and I believe in the logo but recently not sure if I can believe in their cause. They are becoming like any other surf store in Hawaii, HIC, T& C, Local Motion, what ever happened to taking care of the kama'aina? My cousin and I went in there and upon walking in we were greeted with an Aloha. Fine... great!! But the longer I stayed the Aloha seemed to diminish. It was almost as if I was starting to become more of an annoyance as I kept breaking them up from "talking story" with their peers. Hello! I am the customer.. how about come talk story with me. So I am looking through things and keep having to get someone to assist me. I was expecting to drop a lot of money. My top budget was $500. But it seemed the more questions I asked the more distant the clerks got. I finally settled on a pull over sweater, an aloha shirt for work, and a sun shirt. I wanted a sticker to probably put on one of my paddles and knowing that stickers have a high retail price (stickers probably cost 50 cents to make and they mark them up to $5) I jokingly asked, if I bought over a hundred dollars worth of merch would they give me a sticker. (Back in the day shops would use stickers as an incentive to spend.) when I asked this question the manager gave a grostique face as if I just ate shit. I than upped the ante and said well what about $200. Again with a stern "no" she had the audacity to treat me as if I was being rude. I couldn't do it anymore. Purchased my things and left disappointed, thinking to my self I hope it was that days management and that it's not an everyday occurrence that they treat their customers this shitty. I'm back in Oahu and though I encountered this I will rock my gear to show my support not for the company but for the people of Maui. Stay strong! Aloha. read more

I've had a mixed bag of experiences here, but the most recent one was... memorable. Not in a good way. Objectively, here's what you can expect on the good side: - Lots of "Maui Tropix" branded stuff, a few other brands - Clean, bright stores - Wide selection of apparel, mostly tees, sweats, hats, shoes - *Usually friendly service* - so long as you're nice first (same could be said of any place Here's what isn't so great: The management at this particular location is far from friendly. With a recent purchase of a defective product, I discovered that management refused to return the item, pushing me to the manufacturer, for a return at my expense. This was 4 days from purchase, which was against their own policy that offers exchanges within 30 days. When I politely pushed back, I was given loads of attitude, as was my husband. Upon accepting the return granted by ownership under duress (when all we wanted was an even exchange), my husband was loudly screamed at by the store manager as he was leaving the store. Appalling. Objectively, we've had mostly non-memorable experiences aside from this, which is honestly great. Typically pleasant staff, good recommendations, and good things. To be fair, I believe the COVID issue has stressed this business and the ownership, as well as management. I think many members of this team are really struggling to survive in this world, and clinging to every penny, even when it doesn't make sense and its at the expense of loyal customers that once were happy to spend money at their store. I once loved this business, and thought of it as a great go-to spot in Kihei for my Olukai shoes (among other things), but the way my husband and I were treated is just really too much. *I* won't be back, but perhaps you will have a different experience if you are more amenable to inflexible return policies on defective merchandise. I gave them 3 stars instead of 1 because I'm not insensitive to the fact that the COVID crisis has brought about challenges, and I know for fact that few function at their best under that kind of pressure. The latest experience was a negative 1 star, to be honest. Previous ones were a 4, nothing remarkable, but nothing bad either. Average, given the craziness of the world? Two seems better than one, which I don't feel is fair overall. read more

Been to the Kahului location on Dairy Road about a few years back, so I wasn't expecting much when we decided to go the Piilani Village Shopping Center Kihei location...what a big suprise... This Kihei store is larger, brighter with plenty of convenient parking, without battling the traffic on Dairy Road. Customer Service by the two gals that were working that morning were awesome. They were geninely helpful and friendly. They were eager to answer any questions we had and made timely suggestions at the appropriate time. Was excited to find something else I wanted, and two stores later this location had it in stock. Now here's a warning: I'm literally in line to get on the airplane and I just realized the zipper pull is put on backwards. Can't find an email contact for this company anywhere. Be advised check your items closely. :( And it took several stops to find something I wanted that fit I'm so disappointed about this. Edited: And I just noticed the screen printing doesn't even line up on the word "Hawaii" (posted picture). This is all very disappointing for a $50 hoodie. I do want to add that the sales associates were extraordinarily helpful and even texted me a picture of what I was looking for to make sure that they had the right thing before we went in. This store has everything you need to get into the Hawaiian spirit! Every male in our group bought multiple pairs of the "Maui Built" shorts. They are good quality, nice price ($30 each) and great prints. The style we bought all had elastic waistbands (which my hubby loved after a week of big dinners lol) and were really comfortable. Perfect for any tropical vacation as well as back in the mainland. We will definitely stop at this store again to stock up on our "Maui Built's" next time. They don't mail, so you have to go in. I was just there and I can't remember the woman's name who helped us. I'm so sorry. She is an incredible helpful . She is so patient. She helped me and my son. I feel like we tore the place apart, looking for a size and I felt terrible for creating a mess but she was so wonderful and made me feel at ease. I tried on a sweatshirt . There was a large and a small but no medium. She offered to call another store. Anyway, she helped me decide and gave me feedback and then she pulled out a medium in a different design so I could see how that fit. We decided that the small was the best. And my son wanted a red long sleeve shirt, but they didn't have his size so we looked and looked. She called the other store but then he tried the XS and we decided to just go with it. I love this store and their service. My parents live in Kihei and we always visit :) Thank you and I apologize for forgetting her name. She's awesome! Located in the Piikea shopping center They had a huge selection of Maui shirts, rashguards, surf shorts, hoodies, and every other accessory you can think of. It was our first time in Maui so we just had to get some stuff to take home, wonderful selection up to 5&6X!!
