The owner charmed us into dining here and then presented us with the oldest (older than the Roman Ruins) and worst food in Rome. The bread had mold, their signature dish (the Ravioli) was made with sauce that appeared to be from canned tomatoe sauce, and the beef slices with arugula smelled, looked and tasted like ragged old clothes of a hobo by the street. We were staying in a B & B across the street and picked this place because of good reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor. I ordered spaghetti cacio e pepe, and my husband got spaghetti frutte di mare. Our son and daughter in law ordered pizzas, and we got a fried artichoke to share. I guess we got spoiled at some restaurants we'd visited earlier in our trip. Everything was good, but not outstanding. My spaghetti was a little too salty, and my husband's, while very good, fell short of a seafood pasta he'd had while in Venice. The pizzas were typical for what we've had before in Rome--big, flat pizzas without the bubbles and charring typical of Neapolitan pies. The fried artichoke was really good, but seasoning had been applied unevenly so that some parts were quite bland and others overly salty. Service was very good, and the prices were in line with what we've spent elsewhere. I might eat here again if I were in the neighborhood, but probably wouldn't make a special trip to come here. read more

If you are in Rome you need to go here. The food is fantastic and the price is cheap. You can step up for a bottle of wine but 8 euro for a liter of the house wine is the way to go. We landed here based on a recommendation from the USO -- had a nice (and very welcome!) lunch after spending three hours on our feet touring the Vatican. Service was friendly though needed a nudge at times (as stated in other reviews). Our lunch was good and we left happy, but truth be told ... There are plenty of good food around this place. Word of advice to any travelers, ask if it's free. Even if it's stale bread, I mean beyond stale. It was so hard inside and out and they were charging for it. The owner will try to swoon you with his big personality. Don't fall for it! There are so many good restaurants! We were starving after touring the Vatican, so desperately searched for a place nearby for Italian food. We were so glad to have found this place. We ordered the mussels as starter, then the seafood pasta and pizza with mushrooms/parma ham/eggs. Everything was solid and hit the spot for us. I liked how they didn't try to hard to be fancy but stuck to the core of everything. In the end, this simplicity was what won us over. Service began nicely, though a part of it might have been because we walked in before it was even 6pm (yes, we were that hungry). The owner himself kindly took our order and was prompt in serving all that we ordered. However, once the restaurant got busier and his waiter employees started serving, service got a little subpar. We had to ask for the bill three times and waited for a good 15mins before they finally brought it for us. Finally, the ambience is casual and quite homey. A perfect end to a long day in Rome. The restaurant is nestled on a residential street 5 min from the Vatican. We were greeted outside by Dina herself. We ordered one Suppli and the Bruschetta as appetizers. The brushetta came with two pieces of bread. Both appetizers were very good. I loved the bruschetta. The tomatoes were fresh and flavored to perfection, not too dry, not too oily. For dinner we ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara and a pizza (can't remember the name) with mozarrella and pruscitto. The carbonara was excellent. I loved the salty taste of the ham with the texture of the noodles with the egg mixed in. We ate outside and there was always a waiter around. Even Vito & Dina wandered by several times. Service was fast and friendly. There are many reviews from tourists, and the waitress was able to communicate in English, but it did not feel touristy. In fact, the couples on either side of us were locals. So glad we found this little treasure to celebrate on our last night in Rome. read more

I ate my first Roman lunch here. I took a pasta grigi, red house wine and tiramisu. Pasta was nice, but a rather small portion. it was good but not the best pasta I ate in Rome. This restaurant is the incarnation of the perfect Italian I have ever had. The staff is friendly and the food is astonishing. Try the fried artichoke, it amazes even me. Didn't love the food but I was a a fan of the cozy/friendly service and environment. The Caprese was delicious and fresh but my porcini pasta tasted a little weird and grainy - bordering on meaty. My mom and I went to this restaurant for lunch after touring the Vatican, and after eating their pizza and pasta I truly did find Heaven. We didn't have any wine, but I had their pasta (I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was the carbonara) and my mother had their pizza (I think it was a simple margherita) and we both just about died from happiness! It doesn't matter who you are...they truly make you feel comfortable and will accommodate any language barrier or food preferences. We were recommended this place by the Rome USO. Stay away. The lady at the USO told us they have good food and they won't rip you off. We had five different pizzas and not one of them was good. They were greasy and the crust was not good. We didn't even touch one of them. We took it to go so we could give it away to a homeless person. We had lunch on a Saturday, at the traditional time of 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and we were able to get a table for 2 outside. Of course there were other Americans there, but that didn't make it touristy at all, lots of Italian street life to give a sense of place. And good to excellent food for lunch - a marinara pizza (with the wonderful thin crust) and a large mixed salad with excellent tuna on it (a bit unexpected since the tuna was not mentioned on the menu!).
