We had an incredible long lunch after our soul feeding visit to the Vatican Museum just down the street from this classic Roman osteria. This was a destination stop for me after discovering them through vlogs and cooking tutorials posted on YouTube. Genuinely friendly and engaging owners/staff who are clearly proud of what they serve. I enjoyed their amazing veal saltimbocca along with the wonderful golden roasted potatoes you only find in Italy and some sautéed chicory that was as good as it is for you! They have both outdoor and indoor seating and we particularly enjoyed the air conditioning inside on a very hot July afternoon. read more

It was pouring down rain. I pick this café and was guided to the tables outside, which were covered. It was cool so I kind of wished I was inside. This worked out for me as a rain continue to pour and the outside was not getting any more full, but the inside was packed outside to relax and enjoy the view drawing in my sketchbook. I sat here for three hours as the rain poured down tickets to the museums are hard to get on rainy days this place well until I could go.join that line. read more

What a great spot right outside the Vatican! We popped in here after a failed attempt at checking out the Vatican and it definitely lifted our spirits. We showed up on a Monday around 5pm. It wasn't very busy but we saw good reviews online. We decided to sit outside and it was great. The street was fairly busy but not so much so that it was distracting us. We were greeted pretty quickly. We decided to go with our usual (for Italy). 2 pastas and a pizza. My girlfriend got the Carbonara and I got the Gricia (my first time) as well as the Capricciosa pizza. We decided to get everything together and it wasn't a problem. With 2 bottles of coke we had everything we needed. The pasta was hot and fresh and everything came out amazing. I loved the carbonara and the Gricia was salty and delicious as well. Two very similar pasta dishes. The pizza was amazing and I loved the texture and balance of all the ingredients. Food was hot and well prepared. No complaints here. For dessert, we tried something new. It was something I can't remember the name of but it was good. There wasn't as much nutella as we hoped for but it tasted like a nutella, Graham cracker pie with cream. Very crunchy with cream and a little nutella. Still really good. Overall, this place was a great pick for a lunch or dinner date. Ambiance was relaxed but upscale and classy as well, even though we sat outside. Service was great and our server spoke English very well which was helpful. I would definitely come back in the future. read more

Came here through a recommendation in advance that this is one of the few places that are open for Christmas, so we called for a lunch reservation. Come to find out that there are tons of places open for Christmas! Had we known, we would've gone elsewhere. The staff is super friendly and helpful. That was the high point. Through the staff's recommendation, we got a bottle of extra dry Prosecco, which was truly delicious and a great value at 20 euros. Our daughter couldn't finish the Fettucine al ragu di coda as she didn't like the taste, which is rare for her. I couldn't finish the Grigliata di pesce as there was an intolerable gamy aftertaste that no one in my family could stomach. We also got the Coda vaccinara, Spaghetti spigola carciofi pachino and Tiramisu. The ambiance is lively with tourists and locals alike. Beware that they charge you a cover! Prices are high and there are other places that are better value. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch of carbonara after the Vatican tour. It's exactly what you'd expect so close to a tourist zone. The food was solidly decent. The house red wine was out of the fridge cold. The artichoke appetizer was a tad oily and limp. The carbonara was perfectly satisfactory. Decent lunch. Wouldn't go out out of the way to return. Hate to be a bummer, but my partner and I were pretty underwhelmed here for our very late lunch (4pm). We came with such high expectations due to glowing online reviews, but the menu was very animal protein-heavy, expensive, and short. If you like oxtail and other decadent meats this might be a great place for you, but not super great for vegetarians or vegans. Many appetizers are fried, which I didn't like from a health standpoint. There was also no pizza on the menu interestingly. I do like shorter menus, but definitely felt a bit limited here. There were a number of vegetarian (indicated on the menu) and perhaps vegan (not sure if the pasta is egg-based) pastas, but mains were red meat based with some fish. Today's fish of the day (16 euros) was grilled salmon and it came with 3 baby potatoes, which were way too dry and unflavorful, and mushy steamed broccoli. Partner ordered the vegetarian ravioli (12 euros) and didn't like it because it felt over-baked, crispy. Portion sizes are so small! Service is wonderful however - English speaking and efficient. Pretty underwhelming. The service was good, but the food was just ok, nothing spectacular. The marinara sauce on the Tripa alla Romana was akin to a lean cuisine. The Calzone with salsicca and mozzarella was a bit better, but again, pretty basic. The bathroom sink didn't work, the iced tea we got looked like it came from a convenience store, the bread seemed like they got it from a grocery store a couple weeks ago, and the grappa bianca was close in flavor to grain alcohol. Great ravioli with ricotta and spinach. The sea bass with spinach and potatoes. It was also very delicious. They serve local beer and I hear it is delicious. The service was great. One issue. Bus Lady spilled a cup of wine and it splashed from the other table onto my father and my husbands shirt. It took her a while to say she was sorry and try and help clean up. read more

This has been the BEST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE we've had in Rome so far!! The service was excellent and the food was even better. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.The pasta carbonara is a MUST!! Like no other pasta carbonara that I've ever had in the US. My friend had cod, cooked to perfection, she said she loved the orange rim and so moist, it was very aromatic. GREAT FOOD AND EVEN BETTER SERVICE. My wife and I agreed to not repeat going to any restaurant while on vacation in Rome. We broke the rule with this restaurant. The décor is perfect. The food is wonderful. I had the fried zucchini flowers (with anchovies and mozzarella), saltimbocca and braised oxtail. My wife had sea bass and a great pasta dish. The prices are reasonable which makes this the perfect place to have dinner. When we go back to Rome this will be our first dinner. read more

The only qualm I had was that the food took a while to arrive, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since a large tour group arrived right before us. Our hotel recommended this restaurant, suggesting it was less touristy. Very nice space with a good ambiance. The meat and cheese plate was excellent and the wine was good. Gnocchi too dense, but OK. Great food at a reasonable price especially considering the location its in. Most of the places near the vatican are so touristy. This place has a really relaxed atmosphere. Don't let the upscale looking interior fool you. It's pretty causally priced. Bonus is that wait staff are actually friendly unlike most of the shop owners in Rome. Be warned they do charge for water and bread but maybe that is common in Rome? Still my main with wine and water was 21 Euro all in. Good for the area. read more

We totally disagree with the only other review we have read. We ate here for the second time last evening, and the food was delicious, the veal cheeks perfectly marinated in red wine, the veal roast moist and succulent. The pasta was bland, but that's the reality in Italy; the antipasto cod was very tasty. Our apartment just around the corner made this restaurant convenient, but for both food and service it was so much better than other restaurants in the area. read more
