Shocked by the news reviews!! This was the worst meal we've had in Italy and the service was so awful. I felt bad, everyone kept looking around, asking for the checks numerous times (we had to ask 4 times). Our seafood was really "off" tasting and the meals we got were wrong, I put my used for in my pasta before realizing my husbands entree was wrong and we called a server over once he surfaced again and he took both entrees and took them to the table where they were meant to go! I had my used fork in the dish!! Our entrees were brought over about 10 minutes later and the bacon in my pasta was chewy grizzle. Tourist trap and a waste of $50. Ahh! We found this place as we were walking to get gelato and bookmarked it and came back for dinner. It was AMAZING. We even came back twice. First, their bread is one of the better table side breads I've had. They even have olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table. The first day we had the gnocchi and tartufa pasta and both were absolutely amazing. The gnocchi was flavorful and the Mozzarella was really fresh. The mushroom truffle was not overpowering and it wasn't super heavy either, which was surprising. We tried the carbonara, the bolognese, and a mushroom steak. The carbonara was creamy and dreamy. The bolognese was smooth yet rustic and hearty. Italy is all about the food, you may as well go to the right spot and truly eat real Italian food, not what is made for the tourist. This is the dish to get. The other was a tomato garlic sauce with octopus, almost equally as good. We could have been done here and left very happy. My wife and I were there in mid August while spending 4 nights at the St Regis Hotel. The food was exceptionally great, so much that we went again the following night! The first night, I accidentally left my American Express card there. We were three blocks away and the owner came running after us to return it to us! I can't tell you how thankful we are for his valiant efforts to return the credit card to us. 1st meal for diner here in Rome. I asked for my meat medium well. It came out rare and bloody, I asked the waiter to please make it medium well, he hesitantly with an attitude took it and it was now medium and still reddish. The 3rd time I just told the waiter that I didn't want to wait any longer and he immediately started yelling at me in front of all the customers sitting outside. He told me I order medium rare which I did not! Then he told me that the 2nd time around it was medium just like I wanted and for the 3rd time I asked him for medium well. The waiter looked me us with such disgust. What a horrible 1st diner experience in Rome. Then at the end he charged us 4 eruo for hard bread that we didn't eat and said he had to charge us another 4 eruo for a napkin charge. We were a 4 person table sitting as 4 adults and he continued to berate us as we were asking for the final bill. Sadly tourist should not be treated with such disgrace. If Yelp permitted half stars then La Locanda di Bacco would be a solid 4.5 stars. But that's not to diminish the excellence of our evening. Truly the only reason I'd take off half a star is that they ran out of a special of the night dish that I'd wanted and their pasta portions are too large for a primi plate. Regardless, of all the places we dined, this was my favorite restaurant in Rome. The food was not fancy or pretentious like another place we'd dined. It was the Italian soul food I grew up with; hearty, warm and full of rich flavors. I longed to return again the following night but we were too hungry and too far away to return. So what made it so memorable? First, the service was spot on. Our server was friendly and helpful despite a bit of a language barrier. He treated the kiddo with respect and made her smile when he told her that she was the boss. We asked for a bottle of house red and he returned with a nicely priced local Syrah that was a deep red and lightly sweet. The menu had a lot of pasta and seafood dishes in addition to other meat and poultry. There were so many primi pasta choices that I had a hard time choosing. Eventually I did; I chose the rigatoni with octopus in a rich tomato sauce. It was amazingly deliciously. So much so that it's what I wanted to order again had we returned for a second night. Romeo order a Cacio e Pepe pasta. He really liked it; although, he said it wasn't as rich as a similar dish we'd gotten elsewhere. Sometimes being rich isn't a good thing. For our second course, we both chose the veal scallopini. I don't eat veal. I feel sad when I think about the baby calves in cages. I panicked when I was told my first choice wasn't available and I agreed to the suggested veal. I ate every bit of it with its thinly sliced tender meat with mild sauce accompanied by a side of raw leafy greens. The portion was just right after the larger than expected pasta dish. Meanwhile the kiddo had ordered spaghetti pomodoro topped with lots of freshly grated cheese. I stole a forkful. It was excellent. She finished a little more than half before she surrendered because of a full belly. That same full belly made room for a budino alla ciocollata as dessert. It was the most delectable jar of pudding, sauce and whipped cream I've ever had the fortune of stealing a taste from. Romeo and I ordered more wine and shared a light and yummy tiramisu for dessert. It was the perfect ending to a long, leisurely dinner. We all left the restaurant happily chatting about our favorite parts of the meal during our walk back to the hotel. Definitely seek out La Locanda di Bacco if you are out and about in Rome. You'll be extremely pleased with the food, service and the just like home ambiance. read more

I really loved this place. We sat outside and got serenaded by a roving opera singer who was amazing. Just like a movie! Wow oh wow a MUST on your trip to Rome. The inside and outside were beautiful. Lots of seating for a small space. Our first course was spaghetti al'Ameritriana and it was divine! Loaded with flavor and we literally cleaned the plate with bread and leftover sauce. I got the shrimp risotto which was 11/10 and my husband got the veal which was 11/10. Just amazing but the true highlight was our waiter. He was so helpful and kind and FUNNY. He took me on a tour of the restaurant and explained everything in detail. Went here due to its proximity to the hotel I was staying in and I was happy I went. Started off with Prosciutto antipasto and also had a complimentary cheese plate from waiter. For dinner went with two pastas, Arrabbiata and Carbonara, and both were great. For dessert, went with a slice of some vanilla cake and the waitstaff brought over some dessert wine (some kind of Italian port wine) complimentary as well.
