We (group of 4) decided to indulge our craving for improv. I hadn't been in far too long. This time they were putting on a play. A quasi-musical. The service was good and funny. Our tickets included a different drink for each act. Four in all. They were served by members of the cast in full costume. The play was an evening showing early in the run. Still working out kinks. Who knew? Good improv hides most "gaffes" but no one cared about the foibles. We had so much fun. We laughed and laughed with the rest of the crowd. Great atmosphere that night. This was my first time visiting Dad's Garage as I have heard nothing but great things! I was NOT disappointed while visiting for their 30th anniversary improv show on Saturday evening. I was able to find a seat easily, grab a snack and drink for a really reasonable deal $2.00 per snack I believe and laugh the entire night. It was a great time! I hope to go back soon! read more

Came for improv jam on Tues, signups start at 7PM, jam starts at 8PM, all free. Showed up around 7:55PM and it was mildly full, signups close after 50 people (I was #46 or so). There were some improv performers for the first 20 mins, and then we were put into groups and did warmups. After, each group had about 10 mins to do improv - there's a theme and we just each did what we wanted. A lot of encouragement to say whatever you want and not care if the storyline is great. Second time coming here, first time was years ago for an Improv Class. Going downtown SUUUUCKS but here's one of the best parts ... FREE PARKING! And it's so close to the fun Church Bar. You will not find food here. Do not come hungry! The protein bars, chips and candy won't fill you up. Don't be like Kevin. The stage is upstairs and you enter in the bar area downstairs. They have a nice waiting room with plenty of beer, wine and drinks. They have a strict attendance policy, so make sure you arrive at least 30 min early. It's Improv so it can be hit or miss. We saw the Christmas Carol Invasion, where a random character invades scenes and the characters have to play along. It got hilariously awkward when the characters broke character bc of the invasion and didn't know what to say . I loved it when they stared at each other, laughing, unsure what to say. This is a great venue. Grab a middle row seat, as they are cushier. Seats are assigned, fyi. They do an intermission as well. Enjoy the show, Improv rocks! read more

With friends in town, I needed to find some fun, cheap entertainment and luckily I found a great improv show here at Dad's Garage. I'm new to the city so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'll tell you what I wasn't expecting though, a beautifully renovated church building that now serves as a comedy/theatre venue. This spot is tucked away so there isn't a lot of foot traffic. Oh! And they have their own free parking lot! Apparently free parking is a huge debate in ATL rn so this is a huge plus. We came to see Ed, Tom, and Ruben's Hell Show. The tickets were inexpensive, as were the drinks and snacks. Prolly one of the cheaper outing I've had here so far. They have a full bar, beers on tap, and I think I saw canned wines. Also, they have a tasty mead on tap! The show was hilarious! It was an improv format that I have not seen. I definitely recommend you check it out. I think they do it monthly. Also, I saw on the calendar that they have a puppy improv night where they use puppies from a local shelter and after the show you can adopt the puppies! How cute! read more

And I loved how the actors interacted with you. Like come up to you and call you out (or the hubs in our case). Lol. The hubs and I went for a pre-opening event where tickets were discounted. And the engagement from the cast was fun and entertaining. They strolled the aisles and made it seem like you're a part of the story. The acting and singing was so passionate as well. The prices are still good compared to other live venues. The drinks and snack bar was decently priced. I came here for a date night to see Wicket, a star wars parody musical. A lovely community that not only provides comedians a stage/platform, but also classes to anyone at any level to learn the art of improv and comedy. Saw To Peach Their Own on Saturday and the show was hilarious! The sketches are set in Atlanta with many scenes about events and landmarks. We came here with a group for a birthday. We had originally bought tickets with assigned seating for a particular person, but they had to cancel last minute due to weather related issues. The theatre immediately notified us and refunded our money. They replaced the show with an improv show with their local cast. This show was General Admission so we bought tickets to that since we already had the date blocked and sitters lined up. Upon arrival, there is a small lobby where you can pick up your tickets or purchase if you haven't already. There is also a concession stand with food and beverages. Everything was decently priced. From there we hung out and chatted and then took our seats when it became available. There is not a bad seat in the house. The cast was really diverse and funny and really took our suggestions to heart, interacting well with the crowd. There was an intermission and the whole thing lasted about 2 hours. Dad's Garage is now located in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood by Thumbs Up Diner. My friend and I came here for their Friday night Cage Matches where improv groups compete to keep their titles. The tickets were $14 each. This was my second ever improv show and I thoroughly enjoyed it! They facility is clean & has a very casual/welcoming vibe. Up top, it has to be said. Dad's Garage makes for the BEST date, and I will tell you why: You can figure out precisely how funny your date actually is. Does he refrain from laughing the whole time? He thinks he's too cool. Does he laugh at stuff you think is dumb? He's trying too hard. Does he laugh at the right moments? Perfect. The performers are ALWAYS so clever. I am blown away by their creativity and ability to think on their feet. Dad's Garage is such a fun, cheap form of entertainment and it's always a good time. The seats are comfy, you can dress casual OR dress up if you're on your way to another stop. It is fun with friends (or dates) or even if your parents are in town. Located close to some of the O4W stops, you can definitely find some street parking and make a full night of it. What a fun show! We came to their Valentine's Day special and got their fancy pants seats (no really, they call them fancy pants seats...and they're $35 per reserved seat). Ironically you can get their regular seats for $10 cheaper, and the regular seats aren't bad. So the premise of this show was the audience members all wrote love gone right or wrong on note cards before the show began, and the actors picked the cards at random then acted out the story, and added a bit more weight their improv skills. This show lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes, including a 10 minute intermission. A word to the wise....if you think you'll be safe by writing a silly story, thinking they'll never select this, think again! I did just that and my story was selected FIRST!! The actors were all really good, and I loved how they on the fly brought these stories to life. They tag each other in and out to introduce characters and on several occasions will run through the audience for effect. You can order snacks before the show, which we did in the form of popcorn and water, although if drinking is your thing, they sell alcohol as well as other snacks too. Located in what looks to be an old church, it's a venue that isn't monstrous in size, but holds a fair amount of people in a somewhat intimate setting. The stage is close enough to all where sometimes the actors could be heard without the mic, and again, there wasn't any true "bad" seating in the house. Lest I forget, there's a piano playing fellow who is on stage playing through the entire acts Parking is in a private lot across the street from Dad's Garage. They ask that you get there 15 minutes before the show to get some form of parking. We got there about 25 minutes beforehand and parking was no problem at all. Surprisingly getting out was also no problem, though the lot does fill up fast. End of the day, I thoroughly enjoyed myself at this event watching the pros do their improv thing. They do offer several audience driven events where you can try your own hand on stage, but I have not seen one of these shows yet. I can tell you one thing, i'll be back to see more though (go ahead and complete their email survey to get a pair of free tickets!), and I hope i'll see you there! read more

Went here to see my first comedy show and I had a blast! The entire cast was hilarious and the energy was great. I definitely recommend.

Great bar. We loved it. The bathroom waiting area has an open stairwell that someone will die or be seriously injured on if they have a few drinks and then go to lean back against the wall, only to find that there's no wall and then falling and busting their head on the stairs. If they fix the dangerous stairwell with a chain (that won't also trip people) or some similar measure on the future, I'll raise this to 5 stars because that's seriously the only problem. read more

I went for a special fundraiser for the Decatur Makers' Space which made for a fun event where the makers shared stories and three actors from Dad's Garage created and incorporated skits based on the tales. I have not laughed so hard in a WHILE. The bar was fun and all unassuming and unpretentious. Love it for an hour of laughter without hurting anybody's feeling, except POTUS maybe but he deserves it. I recommend the New Year's Eve but other evening are fun too. I have not seen the adult shows but I have taken my children to see their children's show. We used to go to their old location and we have now gone to their new one. It's great to see how this place has grown and expanded in 4 years, yet they are still nice, down-to-earth people who make you feel welcome and invited. The lobby I will say it's a bit dark inside but they have a nice refreshment bar with popcorn, chips, soda, water, and other stuff. Their prices are also super reasonable. No real need to bring anything from outside. They have great parking right across the building where they are housed. The comedians put on a great show for the kids. They really seem to go the extra mile for everyone to enjoy, both children and adults. They slip in some double entendre stuff that kids have no clue what they are talking about but adults get a kick out of. At the end of the show they come out and meet and greet the kids. We went to see their Saturday show on the occasion of their 27th "Birthday". The venue is very pleasant the show can bee seen pretty much from any seat and they have decent size stage. A bit of a problem was that most actors did not have microphones on, and sometimes it was difficult to hear what they were saying. The main problem was that when I could hear what they were saying it was just not funny. May be less improvisation and more jokes or scenes worked out beforehand would have been better. It seemed that a smaller part of the audience enjoyed the show very loudly and a larger part was not really laughing. We left during the intermission. read more

Dad's is my go-to spot for a guaranteed fun and very affordable night out in Atlanta. Ticket prices rarely top $16, and if they do it's totally worth it for the genius scripted show (Song of the Living Dead and Woman of the Year are my favorites) or celebrity guests. Whenever I have friends visiting from out of town, I make sure to bring them to Dad's and they love it. Dad's Garage is an Atlanta treasure. It was one of the first places I hit up when I moved to Atlanta 11 years ago because I had heard that some guys from FSU (my alma mater) started it. I've followed Dad's from its original home on Elizabeth Street, to their temporary space at 7 Stages, and am just blown away at the quality of their new, permanent home on Ezzard Street. They have tons of FREE parking, a full bar, and a truly awesome performance space. You can even have Amazza pizza delivered to you pre-show or during intermission! I attended the opening night for "Black Nerd" last night (07/13/18) and I must say it is one of the best scripted performances I have seen! Standing ovation to both the writer and actors- -every one performed their role perfectly- -it was an OUTSTANDING experience to watch!!! (would give it 10 stars if I could) :-) Racial issues are such a sensitive topic wherever you go. However, Black Nerd craftily pulls together the most difficult and important racial topics into this little over an hour show and highlights relatable thoughts/issues for both blacks and whites to marinate on. Hopefully this production although entertaining and hilarious as it is will accomplish its theme of making everyone think/act (no matter what color you are) on unification vs division. Honestly at the end of the day we are all differently made and have our own individual thoughts/beliefs (no matter our color)- that's the greatness of being human!!!! Encore... read more

Went to Christmas Carol: Invasion. Where Scrooge is visited by someone completely random. This time it was Michonne from The Walking Dead. The Christmas Carol turned into battling zombies, throughout Scrooge's life ultimately leading up to the final scene where Michonne stabbed Tiny Tim and Cratchet to death. The show as great fun, and kept me guessing. I've seen many Improv shows here as well and they never fail to entertain. I would highly recommend Dad's Garage for a fun date-night, night-out with friends, or if you just need a laugh. read more
