7 Stages Theatre is an independent, local non-profit theater located in Little Five Points. If you've ever walked down Euclid, you've probably noticed it as the entire northern side of the building is painted with a colorful mural of people's faces. The entrance to the theater has an old school marquee, which takes you back to the 50s. What I like most about this theater, as several Yelpers have already mentioned, is its intimate atmosphere. There are two stages. The main stage seats about 200 and the back stage seats up to 90. I've been to a performance at the back stage where the seating configuration was designed for about only 20 -- talk about intimate. This is a basic, bare bones theater. Nothing fancy about it. I thought the sound and lighting were good and the seats comfortable. To enter the stages, you have to walk into the Java Lords coffee shop next door and walk all the way to the back, past the restrooms. Jim S. noted in his review that the bathrooms are "lacking," and I couldn't agree more. They can be downright gross. The staff is friendly. You can buy tickets online, over the phone, or walk-up up to one hour before any show. For parking, you can park in a pay lot close-by, next to Arden's Garden, or you can park along any of the neighborhood side streets for free. read more

Such a wonderful theater. Very hospitable. We were here to see "Naked Boys Singing" We entered backstage through the Java shop. The restrooms are all bodies welcomed. So it doesn't matter which you use. This is nice because everyone feels comfortable. The show was amazing!!!!! Laugher and cuteness from start to finish. The guys are all naked (of course) it was nice as they came out right away to get it over with lol They had great songs with the perfect amount of ronchessnes. Songs like "beat the meat" where you would think one thing? But it was them patting thier arms and legs. It was tasteful and fun show. The cast had beautiful voices, and we're very sweet. Wow... I mean... Wow. I just saw Revolt. She said. Revolt again. The setting was Uber cool. Parking was right out back for $7. There was no line and there was plenty of space to get into the bar. The theater was large enough to make an impact and small enough to be intimate. The play opened on a square stage with 5 actors dressed in white. A young person sat outside the quintet on each side of the stage directing the sounds, music and light. They were a part of the show within a show. The show within a show started innocently enough but lit into a cacophony of sound and ideas as each act progressed. I was so glad to sit there and be bombarded by fresh new ideas. I don't want to go into spoilers but I can easily say you will be surprised, shocked, and informed. We were so grateful to Syd, the young person who was cleaning up the set as we walked out. Syd explained what it meant- how and why the set ended up in this dramatic tornado of paper, watermelon, blood, and props. Thank you Syd!! Thank you 7 stages for providing experiences to open my tired little mind. When exhausted from the weekly onslaught of mediocre existence I can find 7 stages to open a wardrobe into another world. 7 Stages is in the heart of Little Five Points. If this isn't a dead tip off that their shows are going to be a little different from what you'd expect, you haven't visited Little Five. I had my first experience with 7 Stages the other weekend, courtesy of ScoutMob, for "Dracula: The Rock Opera." Picture the classic Bram Stoker tale set to a heavy metal rock band with blood, guts and guitar riffs. The show was quite entertaining, though I won't lie, I had a hard time understanding the words being sung half the time. Luckily for us (and most everyone else in the audience), we knew the tale pretty well. People cheered when Dr. Van Hellsing appeared with his magical accoutrements to drive Dracula away, they cheered when the band played a particularly intricate heavy-metal moment and they cheered for vampires and vampire teeth, in general (it was a lively crowd that night). The theater's set up right next to Java Lord, which was perfect for everyone hankering for a coffee or more serious libation (wine and beer were easily accessed) plus snacks like marshmallow squares and other sweets. And inside the theater itself (which holds about 100, I'd wager) the seats were stacked high so even with a really tall person in front of you, seeing wouldn't be a problem. Definitely another cool little off-beat theater in Atlanta, and I'll be interested to see what they decide to put on next. Beware parking though, it's scarce and if your meter runs out even for as little as 10 minutes, you'll most likely be slapped with a $35 ticket. I came to 7 Stages several weeks ago to watch the Fern's Theater Company's performance of Romeo and Juliet with an all-female cast. There are two "theaters" in the building, and I was in the smaller one for this production. It was a bit unusual, because you pay/pick up your tickets at the little open "box office" they have, then leave that area, go into a coffee shop, go past bathrooms to the back of the coffee shop, and THEN you see the little theater. Seating was seat yourself, with a few saved seats on the edge for late comers. There was a stage at the apex, with a ladder and second story where some scenes played out. Seats were laid out like stadium-style seating, which I love, because it means you don't have to crane your head to try and look over someone else. As far as layout, the space they were using was small, but well-conceived. I didn't have an issue hearing the actors, and they utilized their space well. It wasn't a huge theater, but I would venture to say that it could seat about 70-80 at that time. Fairly intimate seating, all thing considered. PARKING: It's within walking distance of Little 5, which sometimes has free parking in the lot. There is also side street parking available, all within about a 5-8 minute walk to 7 Stages. Alternatively, you could park in their paid lot, which was charging (I think) $5. THE VERDICT: It's a small, well-thought out theater. Despite the small size, it's easy to see the stage due to the stadium-style seats that are erected behind it. If you want to park, you do have a few options, but in the future I will continue to park on side streets rather than pay an additional fee to park (Atlanta sure does love to do that). The acting is good, the stage material presented interesting, and all in all, I had an enjoyable time at this little theater. read more

This is a fantastic and intimate place to watch a show! Most recently, I attended a show called "Flowers and Fire." The entire play was created by their Youth Creates program and my friends son, Brendan; was one of the performers. Let me just say that I am amazed and in awe that a group of talented teenagers came together to create a great show. It gave me an understanding of what teens are feeling and coping with these days as well as made me realize that I am old! There was one segment of the show where they text one another and I could not figure out what they were saying...darn acros! Anyways, it looks like a great summer program for teens and I was happy to see that one of my friends is a teacher for the youth program as well! (Shout out to Brian Crawford...who is going to be huge actor...just watch!) The theater definitely has a lot of unique and creative shows all season long and I encourage everyone to support the arts! read more

I have to pick and choose what I see for live theater. This performance the other night was pretty controversial and highly political. "My Name is Rachel Corrie" was riveting and sad. Rachel Corrie was a 23 year old peace advocate. She died when she was run over by a bulldozer. Sad loss of life by someone so young. 7 Stages is a cool little neighborhood theater. 7 Stages has been on the cutting edge of the Atlanta theater scene for over 20 years now and it's not that this theater is "cutting edge" that distinguishes it, but its the excellent quality of the productions overall. Since this "is" the heart of Little Five Points, parking can be a bit tricky so its best to vista the 7S website for tips on that ... but once inside you find the lobby to be modern and spacious. The 7S lobby abuts the next door space of the popular (and usually busy) "Java Lords" coffee shop. 7S and JL share the restroom facility which have recently become unisex, which is typical for a big city but seems to make some Southerns a bit queasy. Tip: Java Lords is a great spot for a pre-theater or intermission beverage but it can be crowded so bring your patience. Another Tip: seating at 7S is "first come, first serve" (like a lot of independent Atlanta theaters) and while the main theater offers plenty of "stadium-esque" seating, be advised that the seats are the old (o-l-d) type of "suburban movie theater" seats, so they are fairly low to ground, rather than chair height, so that kind of uncomfortable ... and the physical seats themselves have seen better days for sure. On the other hand the space between the rows does allow for ample leg room so that somewhat of a positive note. Third Tip: there are no handrails or banisters to ascend the stairs so you have to use caution if you are unsteady in the least... if you have trouble walking stairs, 7S will put out some extra "front row" seats and those seats can be reserved ahead of time if you call the box office. The theater staff is very cordial and helpful at the box office and beyond ... and the works they produce here could be easily considered "off-off-o-f-f" broadway, so if something sounds interesting to you, then its likely going to be good. read more

Went here to see Burlesque Ballet. The production itself was wonderful. Parking was awful. Theater frequenters were seen. Some down right characters were there strutting their stuff, living it up. Connected to a cafe/ bar open for the performance. Cool little place. Extreme vertical seating. Cheap, gen admin tickets- good for getting right up and close for the burlesque. Seven Stages is an expected little five venue with cute art in foray. Theater itself is like a mid-strip cut out of an amphitheater. It smells a little and the seats were old, but what can I say cause I heard all the words and sound effects came from the directors ipod- that's the way I like it! It's low key, you won't stand out anyway (unless you really want to) so don't worry. read more

This is a great venue as sooo many have said before me. It is an intimate setting without a bad seat in the house. The best thing about 7 Stages is the actual shows they get. I have seen shows there, that I can't imagine seeing anywhere. This is not your "Fox Theatre" type place. I saw one play a few years ago there about if Martha Stewart and George Bush were having an affair. The two characters in the play were naked with GB having a Texas star painted on and his penis was red, white and blue! Martha was just as naked with black and white bars painted over her torso. It was one of the best plays I've ever seen. Anything is possible in a play there, but I've never been disappointed and will always check them out! read more

This place is home to talented artists that are passionate about their craft. Side note- parking is $7 if you park in the lot behind the theatre. Went to the tits for toys Christmas show well it's anything but between the 2 horrible poems neither where about anything happy the song although well sung was about a dead friend. Then just to top it off we get to see a Satanist stabbing the baby Jesus in stage a pentagram in the middle of the stage and an upside down cross. Absolutley the worst show I've ever seen. Using kids and Christmas to draw u in then slam you with that is disgraceful. read more

First time at this small theatre. Went to see White Woman In Progress. Liked the proximity to the actress, Tara Ochs. She was an amazing force in this one woman show. Wish there had been more focus on issues and less on the history of her character. Still a great unique show! read more

I ended up here for the Dracula Rock Opera. My friend who is a tattoo artist @ Holy Mother down the street hooked us up with some tickets. I had no clue when we were visiting him that he bought us tickets to this. So we went. Great place. Coffee bar/ Liquor bar on the side, with a smoking area outside. Inside you have Wi-Fi and some cool artwork on the walls. Its not some fancy spot. It adds more to the neighborhood. Seats out comfortable, little close. Overall we had a great time. You can bring your drinks into the show from the bar. Hit the place up, I'm sure you'll have a good time. read more

7 Stages is an icon for cultural and arts events in Atlanta. I attended a reading of Blood for Blood by Johnny Drago and the discussion afterwards. I was blown away by the depth and creativity of this piece. Also they served beer for free since it was a Home Brew series. Saw a play there on Sat. night, 3/10/2012, Brilliant Traces, and it was one of the worst plays we've ever seen! It was staged at Synchonicity, the theater behind Seven Stages. I realize that I am supposed to be reviewing the SEVEN STAGES venue and have no problem w/ the quirky little place but there is no forum that I can find to yelp about the horrific play w/ two full-of-themselves actors who took a boring, downer of a story and made it even worse! Ugh! What a huge waste of $50. We won't be back for another one! read more
