I was a little weary following through with my groupon purchase because of some previous reviews but I reached out to a student of his on Yelp and her advice and recommendation led me to go. I had a fantastic time. The place is a little hard to find but just call and ask. He is hard of hearing so don't mind the stern voice. It was an experience like nothing else. It was so hands on (so incredible hot with the 2100 degree ovens), I got to pick my color and he guided every step of what I was doing course correcting when I messed up which I totally did. He is stern in his teaching but don't take anything personal. You are dealing with literally a slow moving liquid, near and in 2100 degree ovens and his sternness comes from wanting you to stay safe and also produce something truly beautiful yo can be proud of. A friend and I attended Dan's introductory class. It was about forty-five minutes long and incredibly fun. You pick the color you want your piece to be, and after some basic introduction (and donning of heat protectant gloves and goggles) Dan walked up through the process. I made an ornament and my friend a paperweight. The whole process is rather daunting, controlling a super-heated substance while waking to the various stations to complete your creation. Dan is next to you the entire time, giving instructions and reminders of what to do. It was well worth the fee and was an experience I'll never forget. How many people can say they've felt 2100 degrees flash over their face and created something from glass? Dan is very laid back, but his knowledge and love of his craft shine through his clear instruction making for a truly great experience. I'd definitely go again and if I lived closer. read more

I'll confess, after reading the reviews I was a little nervous about this, HOWEVER, my husband and I just finished our class (that we purchased via Groupon) and we had a fantastic time. We learned a lot and were SO impressed with Mr. Daggett's talent. As far as him being forceful--you're dealing with glass that is heated to 2100 degrees. His commands are made in order to keep you (and him) safe. We found him to be very enjoyable. I can't wait to go back and pick up our finished pieces--my husband made an ornament and I made a paperweight. We also purchased some of his other beautiful pieces. This sounded like a great idea... After watching glass blowing at a museum in WA, I thought this would be awesome to try. I love art and learning a new craft. Unfortunately our experience was: metal rod thrown into hands while a man yells at you. There was no actual instruction, just a step by step"do this" "don't do that!" It would be a better experience if there was a quick run down of the steps and important things to know about spinning and blowing before you start. On top of that I'm sure the pieces would come out better. Before we started and after we finished and he started the next group there was no cleaning of the equipment. So basically I'm sure every groupon bearer in Colorado has all had their mouths on the same dirty rods. The studio is pretty filthy. Disappointing. read more

We had a FANTASTIC experience with Dan! I saw the groupon deal and called to ask if he could accommodate a group of six (was an office holiday event) and he readily agreed. He gave me great advice on clothing, location, etc prior to the class. When we arrived for the class he was totally ready for us - six people who had never done anything remotely like this before! He was fun, easy going, clear with his direction (you ARE handling very hot molten glass - very important to pay attention to his direction!), friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the glass industry. I wish I could give this man a negative score, and that would be very, very generous! We purchased three Groupons to learn how to make a glass paperweight, and we had been so very excited for the class. We were driving to Loveland from Parker and Centennial so we left in plenty of time to arrive early enough to stop for lunch before the class. There was a biking event going on in Loveland that we were not aware of and a large majority of streets were closed, so our GPS wasn't helping us out at all. We finally found our way to the address, but apparently the studio is located way in the back on a dirt road near some railroad tracks. This man called my friend's phone and proceeded to yell at her because we were "lost". We were standing in front of the correct house number, but it wasn't where he wanted us to be. He told us what street to go up and go past the railroad tracks and turn right and the studio would be on the right (3 of us heard this since he was yelling at us over speaker phone). We followed his directions and ended up with a field on our right, so we called him back for new directions. This man screamed at us again, we were now late for the class and he was livid. He yelled that we were to turn right before the tracks, which wasn't what he had originally said at all. When we pulled up in front of the studio (finally!), he was standing outside holding the phone in one hand and a clenched fist in the other and was staring us all down as we got out of the car. He was livid. Once we got into the studio to start he was even more rude and wanted to argue with us. Anger issues big time! My husband was trying to calm things down because I was not going to have this man treat us like he was and I let him know it! My husband went first and the owner didn't offer him anything to protect his arms from the high heat. This man was very forceful, slapping your hands and arms if you weren't doing something exactly right, this was our first time ever doing this! He never hesitated to outright scold us for not knowing what to do! My husband's arms ended up bright red from the heat and refused to let me and our female friend take our turns till this guy produced something to protect our arms. He said he had nothing and that we should have worn long sleeves.... how were we to know, he never mentioned anything in the email to my friend when planning our class. My hubby searched thru old clothing rags laying around till he found an old, filthy long sleeve cotton shirt for us to wear. This guy seemed so "put out" once again that he had to wait for us to find arm protection. He was no help at all. He proceeded to be just as rough with our friend and myself. We were not given any safety instruction nor any guidance as to what we were suppose to do, just rough handling and getting scolded thru the entire process. Such a totally miserable expensive experience. This miserable, disappointing and frustrating experience didn't end here. When all was said and done, he charged us $15.00 to mail the completed pieces to us (because we were not ever planning on returning to this studio ever again). We received a box a week later with the three glass paperweights, he had not cleaned up the bottom edges at all, they were still sharp glass edged and very lopsided. HE DIDN'T FINISH THE PIECES AT ALL TO HAVE A FLAT, SMOOTH, SAFE BOTTOMS! They are very dangerous to handle since they were left exactly as he had cut them away from the metal rod, sharp, uneven, jagged and dangerous. This was such a waste of our money and time, and to be treated with such hostility and aggressive behavior was so beyond unacceptable! How this man stays in business I have no idea. This was such an awful experience, and this man was very rude and very, very angry.... we were subjected to his heavy hostility the entire time we were there. He did change his tune just once... when he was trying to get us to buy items from his shop, I think he might have even smiled once. Unbelievable! Please do believe the other negative reviews people have left and save yourself the money and the verbal abuse, We believe them all because we had very similar experiences to what they are reporting. And yeah, the place is filthy, that bathroom was disgusting. This man should not be teaching, he should just work alone in his little shop and keep his blood pressure down. Buyer beware. It's hard to know where to start in reviewing Daggett Glass Studio. The owner, Dan, clearly cares about sharing his craft. Unfortunately, the studio itself and Dan's delivery of the glass-blowing class leaves much to be desired from several key aspects, including safety and basic cleanliness and any semblance of teaching. Concerning the studio: there are large bags of glassblowing materials and tools everywhere in the cluttered space. There is no public restroom or even a sink to wash hands or get a drink of water despite the intense heat in the studio. There is, however, a strong odor of urine or something decaying. One of my fellow students during our lesson is a firefighter and noted several major fire code violations. Concerning the glass-blowing class: there was no lesson. There was no example provided. There are, however, two very hot furnaces into which the student inserts and rotates molten glass on a pipe, and then the student carries the pole and molten glass over to a table where Dan helps to shape the orb while the student blows through the pipe. Dan guides the student by yelling unclear direction and then by derision if the student misunderstands. For example, one of the instructions is "TURN, TURN!," which may mean to either rotate the metal pole with the molten glass on the end, or to remove the pole from the furnace and turn toward Dan so he can shape the glass. I cannot underscore how stressful and unpleasant this experience (that I paid for) was: if you enjoy mind-reading a drill sergeant while surrounded by furnaces and/or waving around molten glass while being berated in front of others, this one's for you. Otherwise, preserve your funds and your self-respect. My group of four didn't even end up returning a few days later to pick up our cooled and dried ornaments because we did not want to engage with Dan again. There is a lot of "student work" in the front of the gallery that is unclaimed, which makes me suspect we weren't the only ones to decide that stepping foot back in that literal hellhole wasn't worth it. Went for the 45m beginner lesson. The lesson was fun, not too difficult, and the owner/instructor was firm but friendly with his directions (he gets that you might be a little scared of the giant ball of superheated glass you're handling!) There's a shop showing off his wares (which are awesome) and he gave us some history around glassblowing in America, too, which was actually very interesting. I've been taking classes here for months now and it's hands down my most favorite place to be. Dan is amazing. His teaching let's you learn in a safe environment while not hindering your creative spirit. If you're curious about the art just drop in and chat. Dan is always willing to teach you about glass. New to FoCo/Loveland area and Colorado in general...sorry dude for bailing on our appointment but after that phone call I didn't want to give you my business! Groupon for 2 special. Great guy. Really down to earth and focused on safety. Had us jump right in and blow a couple ornaments. Went smooth and he answered all of our questions through the process. We purchased a few of the Groupons. Directions were not the same as Google Maps. When we called to confirm, we were yelled at. We should've turned around then but were committed. Dan wanted the money up front. He was rather harsh & gruff. The paperweights all came out different sizes. They each had red or orange spots in them that was not anyone's color choice in our group. The place wasn't kept clean. When the paperweights were picked up, Dan didn't want to grind them down on the underneath side to get them flat. You want to go somewhere else. read more

My niece wanted to do something artsy for her 12th birthday, so I got a Groupon to go here. We had a lot of fun and will always have a great memory of our time. Dan was nice, calm and very patient. We got just the right amount of help with still being allowed to learn and make mistakes. We both made a really cool ornament. His love for blown glass is evident and he is more than happy to share his experience and knowledge with students who ask questions and want to learn. I would definitely recommend for anyone who wants a cool experience. One thing to know: you will not be able to take your piece with you the same day since it has to cool down to temperature overnight, so be prepared to make the drive back to pick up your art. read more

This was not a positive experience. Upon arrival, we used the restroom before starting our class. The bathroom was simply hideous at best. Upon starting, I was not given any safety instruction nor any guidance as to what I was suppose to do. The man said very quickly some instruction and then proceeded to give me a pole. When I asked for additional instructions, he seemed up set and demonstrated the process with anger. The gloves used were old and filthy dirty and no plastic gloves were offered. The area where I did the process was highly filthy and very unsafe, as many hazardist items were laying throughout the floor. When told to blow in the tube, there was no protective covering, allowing one to use the same pipe that dozens before had placed their mouth upon. After the event, I was told I could not take the items with me and if I wanted it, it would cost me an additional $10. I would suggest another place to learn this process. The guy yelled at both myself and my spouse several times and it made this event very undesirable. read more

Dan is a sweet man, kind and gentle and a master with glass. I wanted some of my partner's ashes blown into hearts and he did 4 amazing pieces. I will treasure the memorial remembrance hearts forever! Thank You Dan... read more

This was the biggest waste of $80 (for 2) and drive time I can remember. I thought it was going to be a more professional set up. In a hard to find garage beside the railroad tracks (had to go offroad in my sedan). The man is not a teacher. He didn't give any pre instruction and once my teen started doing what he said with the rod with molten glass on it, he just kept literally yelling instructions at her very angrily. The set up is very dangerous for this type of work, and the barking instructions made it more dangerous. Small room, really big column through the middle, giving no room to maneuver the long rod from the open red hot oven to other work areas, which was harshly demanded repeatedly. He grabbed her and the hot rod quite a bit while acting like she was a complete idiot. It freaked us both out and we left as soon as we felt we could safely retreat. I didn't do my ornament and we don't plan to give him or address so he can mail hers to us. Very intense - bad vibes. Also, he has you blow into the rod and it didn't look, smell, or taste like it had been cleaned between visitors, if ever. I had to spend more money later trying to bring the mood up. I thought it would be a lifelong memory for my kid, possibly trigger a new career interest because she is an artist, but it will go on the books as more of a survival experience. I know it sounds dramatic, but it was really terrible and scary. The good news is the chaos only lasts about 15 minutes or less. Couldn't really call it a lesson because he didn't instruct or describe what was happening and he did the fun/pretty parts himself. Sorry so long - hard to express how bad and scary this experience was. Two girls alone in a garage by the railroad tracks with a very angry man and ovens that could fit a head into the opening and molten glass and hot rods... nightmare. read more

WOW! - Where do I begin? On the first attempt to redeem a groupon that we paid $70.00 for my daughter & a friend were told we weren't on the schedule (made the appt with him so not sure how that happened) so we rescheduled for the following week. When we showed up- he gave our daughter a very hard time saying the groupon was already marked "redeemed", followed by a string of complaints that he is overwhelmed & can't keep track of all the people in his studio, which is hard to believe because it is a DUMP. It's completely filthy & probably not at all "safe". The Health Department should really get involved here, it is that bad. This man was very angry- he was shaking he was so mad & then threw the groupon down. My daughter & her friend left the building disgusted with his display & a bit concerned for themselves. My husband then told him he was not handling this very professionally & that only angered him further. He then said "Fine! Bring her back in and I WILL LET HER BLOW SOMETHING!" I'm not exactly sure what he meant by that but that was more than enough for us & we left with nothing- no reimbursement, no class, just frustration. I wasn't about to leave my daughter there. If you want to learn to "blow something" you should go someplace else--- ANYWHERE ELSE. read more
