Got done within 30 mins of delivery but they never sent the updated cost. He just kept the deposit. When i called: he said it was 145 and 150 for delivery, which was 300 and when i pressed on that it was $300. Then he just added propane and random other charge. read more

I have to give these guys a big shout out. Far too often, service providers like this make us "do it yourselfers" feel small. They laugh at your questions, make you just feel stupid for trying to do something out of your league. AAA is just the polar opposite. Always willing to help, always encouraging, willing to brainstorm ideas with you, think creatively, etc. And then are super flexible and helpful with the actual rental of materials. These guys always know what you need even if you don't. I wouldn't go anywhere else. They have everything. And they will walk you through it, if need be. Plus competitive pricing definitely. Long overdue review. I rented an electric shovel here a few weekends a few months ago and I was not sure what to expect as I've never used or rented such equipment ever before. But when I've been to places like this for other things in the past, i've run into some arrogant jerky guys who take advantage of the fact that they are more knowledgeable than you and act disrespectful. I rented a DeWalt planer to smooth out some deck planks and the machine worked OK. It was not an industrial grade planer but did the job. I rented the planer for 1 day and made payment within their 24 hour requirement for a 1-day charge. A few days later I incurred another charge that an additional 60% more of the total bill. I followed up to inquire on what the charge was for and was told by James that the planer blades had chips but I was not told how small or large the chips on the blades were. In using the planer I made sure there was no sharp objects in the planks that would damage the blades. I understood the blades would lose their sharpness after a few hours use. I called and asked James about credit card charge which he explained. I requested to be notified next time of a possible additional fee so I can understand and authorize an additional charge on my credit card before proceeding. Be mindful of this when renting a tool. read more

Immediately took it out of our truck when we pulled up. I cannot say enough about them. Courteous and polite as well. They have a great selection and hard-to-find larger equipment you can't get at Home Depot or similar places. For their selection of useful tools, I rank them well. For their service, the guys outside who load up equipment and show you how to use it are awesome. Very helpful and courteous. The guy who owns the place and works behind the counter, however? He's an unprofessional, rude, condescending jerk who blames his customers for everything. My first visit for a commercial grade 36" Husqarvana chainsaw several weeks ago was a delightful experience. But two days ago, I returned expecting an equally great experience for a Vermeer BC625 wood chipper. Pickup went well and the guys loaded it onto my hitch and I was on my way. I drive trailers and equipment a lot; I know how to drive safely. On this equipment I'm new too, I went even more cautiously -- took city streets as much as I could and when I was finally on the freeway, I stayed in the slow lane with cruise control locked at 45-50mph. Even semis were going around me. I got onto the 92 freeway slow lane and not even 500 feet later, one of the tires on the chipper blew out. I pulled off to the shoulder and called them. A lady answered and connected me to the owner/manager, who loudly and rudely proclaimed "fiiiiifty miles an hour bud". I said I know and was traveling that and he retorted "uh huh tires don't just blow out themselves". Well, actually they do when you put faulty (worn out) tires on the road in the first place. He sent out a truck to replace the wheel and I was on my way again. Using the equipment was fine. It worked as it was supposed to. I returned it the next day surprised to see I was being charged for the service call. Apparently the $25 damage waiver doesn't cover tires. I didn't know that but that's ok. I have no issue with that. And he did say he was doing me a favor by not charging me for the tire itself. But I don't agree. The tires had very thin tread on their inside wall. Both of them. I stupidly didn't look before leaving the lot with the chipper. But he belligerently and rudely refused to believe they gave me a bad tire. These tires don't blow out unless you're driving horribly with them or they're worn out. It's that simple. And I wasn't doing the former. I don't appreciate the owner's rudeness and how he handled the situation. You couldn't even talk with him about it or discuss what happened. He wasn't interested in facts or even learning what happened. Just automatically assumed the customer screwed up and he and his staff couldn't possibly have accidentally put out a tire that's no longer road worthy. read more

My son LOVES tools and construction equipment and machinery and so we went to AAA Rentals to celebrate his 4th birthday. Ed, the manager, was absolutely the kindest, most enthusiastic, and generous person ever. He welcomed my son in, gave us an amazing tour of their inventory, and answered all of our questions. The highlight: my son got to hold a jackhammer. They have everything - or as their website says 'most everything.' Their website lists it all out but it's clear that if you're building or fixing something, they have the tools you need for the job. And the staff is so knowledgeable about how everything works. We live in Berkeley and so renting equipment from Redwood City doesn't make too much sense. But if we lived closer, I wouldn't hesitate a second to rent from Ed at AAA Rentals. If your doing a Pig Roast on a rotisserie in the bay area look no further. I did a pig roast for like 80 people and the spit they had for rent was perfect for a pig that size (60-100lbs) The crew was helpful loading the spit into my car, Manny had a bunch of tips for roasting a pig, and it was a super easy process from start to finish at a fair price. I'm Shirley I was at AAA Rentals last week. I can't imagine what reviewer Irene is talking about here. Maybe she was just having an off day. The tools are Rentals, after all, so there are going to be a few nicks and dings(aka normal wear and tear). I doubt Irene cleaned her equipment before she returned it, right? It is to be expected. But where I Really Disagree with Irene is about the level of customer service. I am a female senior citizen myself. I spoke with the workers out back and especially Manny (I think I recall the name, middle age gentleman) could not have been more attentive and jovial, with a pleasant smile and eye contact the whole time. I went into the store where the cash register table is, and asked to speak with the owner. The owners were on vacation. However, their adult son was left in charge of the business in their absence. I AM SURE THAT THE OWNERS ARE PROUD TO HAVE THEIR SON WORKING DIRECTLY WITH THEM. He was So helpful, it exceeded my expectations, to say the least. My son needed a compactor and hand tampers for his Eagle Scout Project. Ed was just great working with my son, extremely friendly and helpful. He helped my son select the best type of compactor for his project, and also set him up with a container of gas and the hand tampers. He gave a very generous discount because the rental was for an Eagle Project. This was very much appreciated! On the morning of the rental we were instructed on how to operate the compactor, everything was quickly loaded and we were off to the project. They have small roto tillers, to ones on a trailer, some huge equipment for heavy duty equipment for heavy construction. We even rented tools. They are very helpful, and treat you with respect regardless of your level of expertise. They have insurance available at an additional 10%. Prices are good. Equipment was new, staff were extremely friendly and helpful, I was in and out very quickly. I was born in Redwood City in 1964 I have been patronizing this establishment since I was 16 years old and it was called 5th Ave Rentals Today I returned a rental that was acting finicky and told the man at the counter that this was one piece of equipment I would not rent again, I would rent the larger version. He asked why and I explained the problems I had - and he adjusted my bill - this was no fault of their own yet he gave me a discount ... As I was driving away it occurred to me I have had nothing but positive experiences with this establishment ... for the last 34 years ... I cant say that about many other companies .. if any This is my first review on Yelp, Im glad its positive. Quality: Very low quality tower. One of the chains was broken, tires cracked, anf thr belts that secure the tires wore out. People: Very rude people. I entered from the exit side so i did not see the sign, and the guy was yelling at me. Very unprofessional. Cost: Also, on the phone they said that the tower is $54 but when I got there, it became $65. At the end, I paid $74. U-HALL is $44.5, but because of distance and traffic, I had to get it from them. I'm very enraged by the way this company treats its customers. In the month of June I had my wedding (outdoors) so I needed a generator and needed some lights. Well I saw this business and thought this is the one very high ratings etc. well little did I know that both my brother and father were going to be greated with cus words and very unfriendly customer service when going to pick up what we had previously ordered just because they were a few minutes late to pickup the items. I rented a couple of floor sanders.Once I lugged the 125 lb sander home and began to work on my floor, I found that the dust collector on the larger sander did not work, Dust was every where. Because it was rented over Thanksgiving, I could not take it back, and being under some time pressure, I had to continue on. What a mess. The smaller sander, an edger sander did not come with a backing pad that is fitted between the sander and the sand paper. So the paper kept tearing. When I returned the sanders I explained to them what was happening. They said nothing but the fellow taking them back yelled to the other fellow in the back to see if they could clean out the dust collection ports. Seems like they should have done that before they rented to me, IF that was the problem. As far as the edger, the fellow said the paper ripped because I was using the wrong grit? I did not get any compensation for having no functioning dust collector, and for no backing pad for the edger sander. I only wish I had gone to HOME DEPOT, their equipment looks in far better shape and they have backing pads for the edger sanders... I wasted a lot of time and spent $100 on sandpaper sheets. I'm giving it 5 stars RELATIVE to most construction equipment rental places that I've been to. FIRST of all, they aren't renting 'weenie' homeowner stuff...this is the real deal for real people trying to make a living with the tools they're renting. My first experience was today renting a concrete grinding machine. First of all...it's difficult to find a 10' grinder. A gas powered one almost non-existent...but THEY had one. (They also had a propane powered one for indoor grinding!...I can't believe it). Anyhow, counter guy friendly, funny, & efficient (rare combo). People in yard and shop right there to help you and 9get this) they 'listen'! Who!. For a rental place I would put this one at the 'Sheraton Hotel' level in their business. read more

The entire staff is amazing. Everyone is friendly, courteous, urgent and just plain freakin' awesome! Their prices are very fair and they stand behind their equipment. I heard them on the phone walking someone through how to use an item they rented and when I had issues with one of the two chainsaws I rented, they used their discretion and didn't charge me for it. First off, the Yelp category of "party supplies" is totally, totally off base Unless your party involves jackhammers, trenchers, giant dollies, forklifts, that sort of thing. Rented a jackhammer here to take out a small concrete wall. They were prompt and extremely courteous. Incredibly polite guy advised me on the type of jackhammer I needed and rang me up within a couple of minutes. He was very clear on the rental terms, when I needed to return, the damage waiver, etc. Another, equally polite guy went and got the jackhammer and loaded it into our truck. Had the same very pleasant experience returning it. Will definitely go back if I need to rent another big tool thingie. Oh, and I checked prices and AAA is competitive or less than the others in the area. read more
