Apparently Daily Grind is a chain with 55 locations and 13 more "coming soon." They even have a few locations in Southern California! They truly are masters of disguise, masking their true "coffee shop chain" identity. A coffee house that's part Starbucks, part Central Perk? Sign me up! Daily Grind has all the makings of a hip and cool coffee shop that could easily become your regular hangout. It's got an inviting storefront, lots of weird things hanging on the walls and shelves full of packaged coffee for sale. It also has very clean bathrooms, lots of tables and a weird guy at the entrance randomly complimenting people's shirts and hats. I am not even kidding. The best thing about this Daily Grind is the seating area. You order your coffee at the counter in the main room, and then proceed to one of the two rooms in the back. The rooms have beautiful skylights and patio doors opening to a quiet backyard. Exposed brick, serene pastel colors and faux windows make you feel as though you are enjoying a beautiful afternoon at your country house. No wonder Daily Grind's tagline is "Unwind." How can you not? Of course if you can't afford to "unwind," bring your laptop, your homework or your unfinished manuscript and get to work. See and be seen at Daily Grind! As the all-important Family Guy quote goes: "Man 1: Hey, gettin' some writing done there, buddy? Man 2: Yeah, settin' up in public so everybody can watch me type my big screenplay. Man 1: Me too. Some of my favorite coffees here have been the cappuccino with oat milk, chai latte with oat milk (sometimes with a shot) and the mocha with oat milk and dairy free chocolate was nice!! The Daily Grind is a cute little hipstery coffee place on the harbor. It looked really spacious (I'm from NYC, so everything here looks huge to me), and they have a lot of specialty roasts. Pros: The coffee is actually QUITE GOOD. I can't remember a bad cup I have had here. They have plain soy milk for vegans to use as a creamer. Prices are cheap and service is fast. Iced Red-Eyes here are FANTASTIC! Bagels are pretty good considering. Cons: The seating/tables. Please, for the love of god, fix the tables that wobble and result in spilled coffee all over. It can't be that difficult! The place looks and feels dirty sometimes. Maybe sand the floor, polyurethane it and keep it looking nice? Trainspotting could have been filmed in the bathroom. They've made *some* improvements since I was a regular here in grad school - namely, that you now need a key for the bathroom. Service was fairly abysmal - when my sandwich was ready the guy muttered "egg & cheese on sesame bagel" and threw it across the counter without even bothering to turn around, so my cheery "thank you!" was completely lost on him. Based on wanting to work there on a laptop using Wifi on a weekend. Pros: Huge, sky lit, and cute with an incredible selection of drinks and snacks. Cons: (Clearly a library would be a better place to work, but sometimes you're stuck in a neighborhood.) If you're looking for a place to settle in to read or write, this won't be ideal. The wifi was so inconsistent that I can't ever go back on a day when I need to be connected. The plugs are fewer than ideal and the wobbly tables are more. Also, it was busy to the point that the wait for a latte was long, the staff seemed flustered, and being jostled in line was a given. read more

Grosssss To be fair this was over a year ago but I still have yet to meet people who hate their jobs more than their employees do. The place was filthy (and this is coming from a girl who regularly eats food off of strange, unknown services) The service was HORRIBLE, the barista was kind of a moron. I asked for a Caprese salad instead of a Caprese sandwich s... which was not caprese, it was just really freaking gross grape tomatoes soaked in pesto.... what? I asked for their tea selection and they told me their tea of the day. I asked what else they had and they said they weren't "brewing" more than the one they had available... uhhhhhhh, what? You have ONE tea? You don't just have teabags and hot water? It seriously was not a concept they had heard of because the dude looked at me like I had three heads and repeated himself. One of my favorite coffee shops in Baltimore! (and I've been to a bunch of them) Free wifi, open later than most coffeeshops, gluten free muffins from sweet sin. I enjoy their chai latte and always find the service friendly and un-pretentious. And they have clearly marked recycling bins, which I think is swell. --For People Who Want to do Work here: This place can get crowded, so come early or at off times if you want a table! Also, outlets are limited... bring a long cord if you have one and want to charge your laptop. Keep in mind that it can get noisy and they do play music. I bumped up to three stars, I just felt too badly. This review makes me feel bad because I wish it wasn't so. And I'm hoping my experiences are unique to me. DG has a great location and a great space. Right now they are under renovations, so I won't give too much attention to the looks, per say. But I will say, it's cold and feels a bit abandoned inside. It's trying to the be local "spot" but doesn't feel like it's achieved that homey-ness and comfort of well-worn local gems. My big issue is something else though and there is no way for this to sound good. Every time I've gone in, Leroy is in there hanging out, milling around, and talking to every person that walks in (as the other reviewer comments - frequently with "You're pretty!" "Hey pretty lady" or "Did I see you at ....?"). It's not that he's there that gets me, it's the sheer volume of his voice that off-putting. If I come in and spend $10+ on a drink and lunch and want to sit and read a book, I don't like the jumpiness that is accompanied by Leroy's random and constant exclamations. It makes for a very unrelaxing, unenjoyable experience. I have gone back a few times to try it out, but still found it to not be a place that I could sit back, think, and relax. The management doesn't seem to take note of what's going on in the store - ie. some guy coming in and just posting up in the corner to blow his nose for 45 minutes. And I'm not talking marathon laptop sessions, I'm talking an hour or two or reading my Kindle with chai and sandwich. Again, I don't know this establishment or their relationship with all the local guys that seem to always be there, but I'm hoping that with the renovation comes an environment reaches the potential of the space and product. To end on a good note! The staff has always been nice, responsive, and I haven't found them to be snooty (as commented in other reviews). When I worked downtown, I used to visit Daily Grind almost -- well -- daily -- for a muffin and a coffee. I haven't been there in years, and I was a little taken aback by how grimy the place has become. I guess it's possible that, fresh out of college, I just thought it was relaxed and homey, but I really do think it's less cared-for than in the past. There were quite a few oddballs there; I certainly don't think that should be illegal, but I was a little uncomfortable about the man near our table who was obviously homeless and mentally disabled. It's still a decent place to work for the price of a coffee (free unlimited wifi, sprawling interior with lots of cozy corners) but it was quite drafty where we were sitting, so once our hot drinks were gone, we hightailed it out of there. Their scones were a little dry and on the sweet side, but not inedible. With so many great places to eat in Fell's Point, I think I would pass on a return sit-down visit and stick to what they do best -- coffee! read more

Beautiful location, large, yet intimate interior, Daily Grind is a great little cafe. Their drinks are inventive, I tried a Dirty Chai, a chai latte with espresso, which was a great combination of spice and coffee. Typical cafe food, but a decent selection. My power house was well done and quickly made. I love how not crowded the place is, usually little cafes are so small and packed. There is lots of natural light. I've been getting coffee and bagels here a few times a week for at least ten years. The bagels are among the best in the city (although the winner is probably Greg's up in Belvedere Square, but I'm never up that way these days). They double toast without scowling. The coffee is consistently pretty good. The barristas know what they're doing, which is a relief and not something you can expect at most coffeeshops. The atmosphere has remained blessedly unchanged. It's spacious and unpretentious and kind of a shithole, but I like that. I find it to be much more comfortable than a prefab colorized Starbucks. The crowd is mixed, but I like that, too. Given its location, you would expect a hodgepodge of tourists, students, Fell's Point olde guarde, moms with strollers, the arty alt lifestyle crowd, and various suited office workers. read more

I visited this coffee shop when it opened nearly 20 years ago - you know, when the neighborhood wasn't as fancy or upscale or had the high prices to go with it. This was the place where the up-and-coming BBS crowd often met for get-togethers - picture about 20 or 30 "geeks" in the early 90's around rickety, old tables and paper cups of coffee steaming in their hands as they talked about LAN parties. Yep, that was us. We loved this joint. Today? Sigh. It's still got the rickety old tables and the paper cups of coffee but now it's full of rich, snotty hipsters trying to look cool holding their nine-dollar sandwiches and typing away on their laptops (a huge luxury in 1993). The coffee is still .... Daily Grind coffee. Not great, but not bad. The staff is still cool - order a coffee, sit in the back, stay as long as you want, they don't care. It can get hectic during weekends and "prime time", but a mid-week afternoon is nice and quiet and you can relax, sit back and people-watch. It's still an okay place to go for coffee, but the rating is more borne from good memories of the past than anything else. If I were to walk into this place today and didn't have any kind of remembrances attached to it, I'd probably turn up my nose and make a beeline for the door. read more

I come here in the mornings whenever I'm in town. While I'm not an adventurous coffee drinker (black or skim latte usually) my drink orders are always ready quickly, and taste great. The staff isn't as 'chipper' as you might find them at other coffee shops, but I prefer that--I've been here at 7am and even when they appear tired, they listen well and work quickly. I've never had a problem finding a table, the place is extremely spacious! I did make the mistake once of sitting in the back when some construction appeared to be going on out back--one of the workers was noisy and disruptive, constantly talking too loudly. So, don't sit at the table in the WAY back, like me, and you'll be fine! read more

I have a possibly misplaced affection for this place largely stemming from a time I was going for a walk around the harbor and it began to pour. I stepped into the Daily Grind with no desire to spend money, just to be out of the torrential rain so I awkwardly offered to dump my coin purse into the tip jar in exchange for shelter. The girl at the cashier was super warm and chatted with me for a while as the worst of the rain stopped. I've been in here to do school work other times. It's a nice space with a personal, divey feel. I'm not terribly put off by grunge but their tabletops do give me pause. Much dark buildup... Good coffee, standard issue sandwiches and baked goods. The prices are nice and reasonable. Baristas, etc. are happy and do their jobs well. I'm pleased a place like this can thrive in the tending-towards-cutesy section of Fells Point. read more

The Daily Grind is my favorite study spot in Fells Point! I can get my go to study meal - a bagel sandwich and iced coffee - at an affordable price. Their sausage, egg, and cheese is quite tasty and is a great pick-me-up when I'm stuck inside studying. I appreciate the amount of study space they have as well - I can always find a table to sit with good natural lighting. My only complaint is that it can get pretty noisy due to poor building acoustics, so make sure you bring your headphones if you're coming to study. read more

I am an unabashed coffee snob that will unfortunately drink pretty much any dark caffeinated beverage before 9am. This may seem contradictory, but trust me, I do not operate well sans caffeine. Hence, I have inevitably ended up at the various Daily Grind locales around Bmore. If I were to rate purely based on the coffee- I wouldn't give it more than 2 stars. However, the wi-fi and hours that extend beyond 5pm is rare in this city, so one more star for a true cafe feel. If you are around the Fells Point area in the afternoon, I would suggest going across the street to Pitango for your coffee or espresso related fix. read more

What I really liked about this place was the abundance of seating-- that is awesome. I saw they had a courtyard but it didn't look maintained- I wonder why they wouldn't utilize that space? Since I only go here when I'm visiting a friend in Fell's Point, I've never come to do work but most customers have been the ostensibly productive type. It has a reasonable mix of silence and chatter with background music sprawling across its multiple rooms. I'm biased here because when I was in college, I worked for what I believe to be the best local and independently owned coffee shops I've ever been to. It's called Donkey Coffee and Espresso, and it's in Athens Ohio. It really is the best of the best, and I will judge all other coffee shops by this standard. That being said, Daily Grind is not bad by any means, but it is nowhere near as good as it gets if you've been to a really good shop. I think Daily Grind is successful more for it's location than quality across the board. As for the product, it's solid. They do have good coffee, snacks, food, etc. I'm not complaining here, and I don't think anyone could. My main problem (and again, this it totally within the context of my experience at Donkey) is that there's a real disconnect between the people who work here and their customers. You just don't get a great community feeling. Maybe it's because it's in Fells Point and it's more of a touristy place as opposed to a neighborhood coffee shops that really establishes itself in a community. There's also much much much to be desired in the layout of the place. Daily Grind should be the type of place that is always showcasing local artists and trying to create a welcoming atmosphere. Rather than that, Daily Grind features a lot of bare walls, and cramped, uncomfortable seating. I'll give this place props for its product, but that's it. I would come here to grab a drink to go, but I wouldn't want to stick around at all. It just doesn't have a very welcoming atmosphere, and I think that's important for a local coffee shop. read more

It's been about a year since I've visited Daily Grind. This past Saturday was beautiful and since it was about 6 in the evening and I hadn't had any caffeine consumption yet, I decided to give DG another shot. And I'm glad that I did! I got a plain latte made with whole milk, light on the foam and it was made perfectly. Not sweet, not bitter, perfect. I will definitely stop in again on my strolls through Fells Point. read more

I was torn between the 2 and 3 rating... The coffee- I got a latte at Daily Grind. It was ...hmm, disappointing. I feel a latte is pretty basic and is a decent yardstick to use when comparing cafe houses. The problem: there was a burnt after-taste, indicating that the beans were probably slightly burnt; the drink was practically at boiling temperature (just too hot that you had to wait 5 minutes to have a sip); the milk froth was too hastily made... far below average drink; even the Starbucks machinery makes better drinks The ambience- This was the big positive about Daily Grind. It is right on the water, which makes for a great outdoor sitting experience. The inside was also quite welcoming. The lighting was just right; lots of windows; plenty of sitting (ranging from high stools to larger tables); and a good mix of customers (spanning all ages- from college aged to granny professors; also from preppy metros' to rednecks). Other random things: the music- what music? I enjoy some ambient level of noise/ chatter/ interesting music when I go to cafes. There was some music, but it was barely audible (which i guess could be a positive or negative depending on what you like). There was also a piss-poor selection of pastries (It may be because I was there on a Sun evening)- granny coffee cakes and more granny coffee cakes, and... not much else. read more

Got here to study but didn't enjoy it as much as what the reviews had said.. the following are the reasons why: 1. Cleanliness: 2/5, crumbs everywhere on the floor 2. Environment: 3/5, the interior around where the coffee was acceptable but around the back, there is a yard that looks neglected, unkempt with direct view of the trash can; this would maybe improve with some gardening/landscaping 3. Coffee: cost & quality was reasonable 4. I was also disappointed that food wasn't served after 4pm.. I personally will not return as the place seems neglected and not the best in terms of cleanliness. I hope this review will warn some that may value cleanliness and/or help the owner improve the place. read more

People Pay -- Pets Don't ... Just stopped by this Daily Grind with the thought of experiencing great coffee on this beautiful Summer day. apparently there is a rule that there is no service at the sidewalk door unless you have a pet-- this was unbeknownst to my husband and I as we are not from this area. So, we stood there behind an adorable couple with a small dog, awaiting our turn to order. Immediately after the couple completed their transaction the clerk slammed (or abruptly and forcibly closed) the door without one word to us. A simple few words to instruct us to go inside since we did not have a pet would have been nice. Thankfully the couple (who, seemed to be just as shocked as we were) advised us of the rules. By this point we felt very uncomfortable and opted to to go elsewhere. Lesson -- unless you have a pet, do not frequent this establishment. read more

I come here a lot when I'm home from college because it's really close to my house. Not going to lie, I stopped by twice yesterday. I really like their iced coffee. When I went yesterday the second time they were out of large cups so that was kind of annoying, but I guess I didn't really need a large amount of coffee. I like Daily Grind because they have plenty of seating and free wifi so it's a nice place to hang out for awhile. I also like that they put soy milk out with the regular milk to put in your coffee so you don't have to ask for it specially. My service has always been prompt and friendly. My sister LOVES the blended chai. I get americanos sometimes too and their espresso isn't amazing but it's decent. I haven't eaten any of the food, but some of their sandwiches sound really good. They have a Foursquare special where you get a free coffee with your sandwich on your fifth check-in, so I'll probably do that soon and write a review of the food. Some of their space looks a little messy. Like if you go to the seating in the back that is up a few stairs, they have a wheelchair lift but maybe it's broken or something because there are upside down tables stacked in front of it. I don't know what the reason is, but it doesn't look nice. That whole area just doesn't look too cared about. And when I was there this guy came in and said he left some little electronic thing on a ledge next to a table a few days ago and he came back and it was still there... That's great for him, I guess, but it means that they didn't clean or look at that ledge for a few days or they would have seen it. That's kinda questionable in a place where they serve food to people. read more
