Daily Grind is really my first coffee shop. Growing up in Baltimore and going to college here, I would frequent Daily Grind... really not assessing what an independent coffee shop was in comparison to Starbucks or Dunkin. When I really started becoming a coffee/coffee shop snob, I realized why I liked this place. The problem with Daily Grind isn't the service, which is always good... or the food or coffee, which are par for independent coffee shops... it's the venue itself. For as much as I love going here out of tradition, Daily Grind kinda smells... bad... all. the. time. Today, it was humid and warm inside... worse than outside. So my friends and I grabbed an outdoor table, which was cool. The bathroom situation has always not been good. They once had a homeless-taking-a-shower issue with the men's room... perhaps it's psychological, but it's still funky in there to me. If you're in Fells Point, you should grab coffee here... but then walk around with it. read more

The Daily GRIME is more like it. This place needs a wipe down. I honestly can't believe how dirty and crappy this place is. It would be so easy for staff to do a quick sweep, hey, maybe even mop or wipe down tables and walls? Whoever thought customers might enjoy a nice clean space? How hard is that? Apparently it's hard because whoever owns this place doesn't give 2 craps. It's evident this place hasn't had a good clean in ages. The only reason this place is still frequented is because of it's prime location. This place would have to LITERALLY clean up it's act if it were located in another neighborhood. As many other Yelper's have said it is a nice study space. Many other people are diligently working so if you go to get work done you won't feel alone. It's big, spacious, in a good location (Fells near the water) and lots of tables are near outlets. BUT it's so poorly maintained which distracted me from getting work done. It has the potential to be so awesome and beautiful! COME Daily Grind, get with it. I am NOT a picky person. Even when it's busy you should have staff take 5 minutes to sweep, wipe off counters ect. And I honestly wouldn't dare eat here simply because it felt so grimy. The women's bathroom seat was cracked and the stall door was on it's hinges. As for the actual coffee- good. Nothing special and defiantly not bad. This place is still frequented because of it's prime location otherwise it would not stay in business. If you must eat/drink here get it to-go. You won't want to stay and enjoy. It's not a nice coffeehouse feel that so many of us want and look for. read more

I like to order at the walk-up window. There's nice indoor seating and you can order indoors to sit or take out. But the walk-up window reminds me of so many places like this at the waterside. The fresh air and morning breeze, the view of the harbor, chatting with others waiting set me up for great coffee, and an egg and cheese bagel or a sweet roll. The food and coffee are great, and the lazy morning moments are lovely. I'll grab a bench or chair right at the water's edge. Oh, the service is great too. read more

What can I say about Daily Grind that hasn't already been said hmmm...it's definitely one of the better spots in the city to get work done if you work remote. Besides that their breakfast sandwiches are amazing and I'm usually racing against the clock to get over there in time for one. You can also order from the door outside sometimes if you want to grab something on the go. You just have to knock if it's closed during the hours they offer it. The coffee is AMAZING and they have a ton of different options from your most basic all the way to dessert themed and unique drinks. Many of them can come hot or iced and one of my favorites has to be an Iced Dirty Chai w/ Almond Milk (gotta protect my tummy). You owe it to yourself to stop in and try coffee, pastries or sandwiches! read more

Daily Grind has long been a go-to coffee spot for me in Fells Point. The coffee and drinks there are good, and nothing overly pretentious about it like some of the "cool" coffee shops. I always go with a cold brew, iced coffee, or some kind of latte when I visit and they are always good. I love going for breakfast to get a delicious fresh bagel with cream cheese and lox. ALSO- if you like chocolate-covered espresso beans, they have my favorite. You can get a cute little container of them for fairly cheap! The vibe inside is very spacious, relaxed, and charming. They have WiFi as well so I like to bring in my laptop sometimes to get work done (it's much quieter here than a Starbucks). read more

This cute coffee shop is located at the perfect location! We stopped in and the barista recommend the dirty chai! So that's what I got! It was so good! Would definitely recommend it! In addition to coffee they also serve bagels and pastries so there is someone there for everyone. On the second floor there is a quiet room if you are wanting to use the shop to get some work done. Came here on a whim one Saturday afternoon. It is a cozy and cute coffee place. Definitely no Starbucks. This seems like a hipster-ish kind of place. There are enough chairs and tables to sit, relax, and maybe get work done. They had many coffee and food options. I had the hot chocolate and a black-bottomed muffin (I think that is what it is called). The hot chocolate was not overly sweet, but maybe it was because I was eating a chocolate muffin at the same time, drowning out the sweetness. If I was in Fell's Point, I'd go back! read more

This place has great and very cheap coffee - but do expect to fight for a seat and for WiFi. Daily Grind is a small but surprisingly spacious coffee shop in the heart of Fells Point. The coffee is absolutely superb, and remarkably cheap given the area and given the competition. The food also seemed to be quite plentiful and good, though I didn't try any. One note - this place gets crowded, and thus WiFi and seating becomes a bit of an issue. Every waterfront touristy area needs the local funky coffee shop - and this fits the bill. Before going I had checked the website for their menu. I noticed they would be updating once they added falafels, expected in 2011.... okay, so I gave up on the menu and just headed over. I came in around noon to grab a sandwich to go. It was a hot day, and if I had followed Elsa's suggestion of bringing a coat, I would have died - the AC must have been out. This probably explained the rather distracted, but still fast, customer service. Probably too fast, since I didn't end up getting in my order for chips to go with the sandwich before he had wrung me up. The prices had gone up by about a dollar, which isn't terrible. I got the turkey pesto for 6 dollars and change. The bread was fresh, but nothing particularly great. The turkey was also fresh, but nothing to write home, and the pesto could have packed a bit more of a punch, but I still enjoyed it. Yet, despite this, it was a tasty sandwich and rather filling, which I would get again. On a whim, since it is a coffee house and I knew I'd be on yelp, I ordered a small iced dirty chai for around 4 bucks. It was strong on the espresso, but still packed a bit of punch from the chai - overall a tasty drink, and I'll look forward to seeing what else they offer. If I can do the sandwich and chips for under 10 bucks I'll be sure to add this place to my lunch list - but I'm holding off until I know that they don't have unreasonably priced chips. read more

Whoa! I haven't reviewed Daily Grind!? It's an odd place. I mean I should like it a lot. It has that eclectic indie coffee shop feel. It smells like coffee when you walk in. I feel like "Yeah! In your face, Starbucks!" But I'm also very meh about it. There are always homeless guys loitering and though they don't always ask for money, they give you the stare of doom as you start chomping on your bagel. The baked goods are consistent in their inconsistencies. You'll have a muffin and it's amazing! Same type of muffin a week later and it is awful. A double chocolate chip cookie - soft and amazing! Double chocolate chip - duck food. (Can ducks eat chocolate? Never mind. Trash can it is.) I do love their everything bagels as the base for the Powerhouse sandwich, but I seriously don't think there is ANY way to mess up an everything bagel. That is my go to here. I haven't had their regular coffee but they do make a good dirty chai. Staff is neutral from friendly and sweet to friendly and really tired. I'm in there a lot but they never recognize me which might make me sad, but really I just want a bagel in my mouth, fast. I'll always be back. read more

I am a regular customer in person at the Daily Grind. Well I ordered three pounds of coffee to be shipped from Fells Point to DC and they shipped it by post immediately. Unfortunately, I waited and it didn't arrive 10 days later --so they had a pound sent immediately that day while I was waiting. After another 10 days without getting my three pounds, I wrote them and they special delivered another two pounds. Well today, six weeks later the post office finally delivered the coffee. I wonder if i the post office sent it around the world first. How far is Baltimore from DC?! I've been here a few times since my sister lives 2 blocks away. This is her local go-to on her way to work and she, rightfully, speaks highly of it. Grabbing a coffee and sitting out front by the water on a sunny day is hard to beat. The space is large and light and has plenty of seating both inside and out. And it's packed with plenty of regulars. I have only every gotten drip coffees and lattes here and have never been disappointed. Their drip coffees are very affordably priced although they are no exception to the unreasonable price jump one your move to "specialty" drinks. I haven't had their pastries or breakfast items but I am tempted every time (they look amazing). read more

I would give this place NO STARS if I could. This was my first time here. I was visiting with my step mom who order her food and coffee before me. I order a mocha and lox bagel. The wait to the register was long but that was expected in a coffee shop. I order and 5 mins later my step moms coffee and bagel comes out mines was up next, only the coffee came out. 5,10 13 mins later I ask the lady making the coffee if she could check on my order. She never checked, only said it was coming. By this time the 4 ppl behind me had already gotten their coffee and bagel. I asked the guy who was making the bagel about my order, but it was met with the same approach as the lady making coffees, barely any acknowledgement only "it's coming" and never checked the tickets. I asked the other 2 ppl my order status but I got met with the same approach, one did check the tickets but said it was coming. 3 more other ppl after me got their coffee and bagel. At this point I saw no lox bagel being made.I asked for a refund. They only refunded the bagel. I sat there for 20 mins no bagel, no sign of it coming and no apology from the staff. And after seeing no apologies come from the staff, I went back and refunded the coffee. This place has Horrible service and DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE CUSTOMER THAT HAS ALREADY PAID. read more

The Daily Grind is a lively, cozy coffee shop in Fells point. They have affordable sandwiches (with a lot of variety) and respectable lattes and cappuccinos. I often get the egg, cheese, and Turkey sausage breakfast sandwich and a cappuccino. Lots of space inside as well. Parking (like anywhere in Fells point) can be difficult depending on the time of day. Overall, a nice place to get work done or get breakfast/lunch takeout. read more

Pretty cool spot that I visited on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered a dirty chai latte, which was great. I heard it gets packed on sunday mornings, but it was chill when I was there. Lots of table space and plenty of electrical outlets for charging your devices. WiFi is free, so you can definitely be productive. Only downside is that they stop serving food after 4 or 5pm. But honestly, it's not that big of a deal since they're located in an area with so many bars and restaurants that you definitely won't go hungry. Some of my favorite coffees here have been the cappuccino with oat milk, chai latte with oat milk (sometimes with a shot) and the mocha with oat milk and dairy free chocolate was nice!! Daily Grind is great for a lot of reasons and really only loses points for one shortcoming. Of the many coffee shops and public study spots (as opposed to schools) I've tried around Baltimore, Daily Grind is definitely my favorite. Pros: -Located right in the heart of Fells on the water on Thames St -Great inexpensive coffee -Great drink selection (no booze) -Great food selection heavily skewed to healthy options but with plenty of desserts and fatty or salty treats as well -Lots and lots of tables....it's maybe once in 20 visits that I can't find a seat, although it can get crowded, especially on the weekends when you may need to just be a little extra friendly and share a table -Staff is friendly The location really deserves it's own paragraph. I love being in the middle of it all because I can get a bite at any of the many incredible options (Jimmy's is my latest favorite) in the area then head over to study. You're also right in what I consider to be Baltimore's best bar district when you finish your coffee or your studying and you can walk down the block to unwind or watch a game. Cons: -The only major drawback of the Daily Grind is their spotty wi-fi, although it seems to have improved in the last few months (better as of April 2015 than it has been prior). Especially when busy the wi-fi often slows down, sometimes so much so that it is not usable and I have to switch to a hot spot from my phone. -Some of the tables are a little old and wobbly and the floor is not flat in places, making the tables extremely wobbly. This is an easy fix with some folded up napkins so not a big issue at all. Daily Grind gets my vote for the best coffeeshop/study space in Baltimore. For it's atmosphere, prices, size, and location it beats all the rest hands down. It's also walkable from my home and work, which doesn't hurt. There's only one other spot that rivals, The Bun Shop, but since I live by Patterson Park and the Bun Shop is in Mt. Vernon, The Daily Grind wins every time! read more

First, let me point out that this location is in fact at Fells Point, in regards to another review. I am a complete fan of Daily Grind ever since I was introduced to it by someone a month after I moved to the area. The best way to enjoy a bright afternoon here is to roll up in your hybrid car, tie-dye clothes on, and unkempt hair. Also, don't forget your Apple laptop. Yes, this place is a hippie's dream hangout spot. But, guess what, it's pretty cool to be environmentally conscious these days, thanks to the rate at which we are destroying our planet. It's also cool to enjoy organic food and $4 bottles of water in the name of being green. Daily Grind has some of the most luscious chai 'teas' I have ever tried (Why they call it a chai tea is beyond me). You get two options - regular milk for the genetically superior and soy milk based for the lactose intolerant. By my own count, I have driven out here thrice just to enjoy the hot milky tea; so much for being green. The staff is so very cheerful. I like that they don't have weird names for the sizes of their cups, hence catering to unsophisticated folks like us. I am a fan of the little island with the cup covers and the straws and the napkins and what not. Ambience wise this place is pretty simple. It's almost like it was built in between 2 adjacent buildings. There's plenty of seating, and you're sure to enjoy working on your Macbook here, what with the free Wi-Fi. I have also had the pleasure of trying out their sandwiches and biscotti! Everything here is pretty darn fresh, albeit pricey. But, hey, live a little, and unwind. Parking rocks, and once you have had coffee, feel free to enjoy the harbor. Recommended A+++++. read more

The Yelpers who identified the so-so coffee here are basically right. And obviously that ain't good for a coffee house, unless you happen also to serve weedier products on the side, as in Amsterdam. That said, this place is all about the location and vibe: exposed brick walls, narrow passageways, decent music, and a mix of tourists, wanna-be hipsters, laptop addicts, grad students, and local Fells Pointers. It all adds up to an experience that is comfortable, not cloying. This place, like the Donna's cafes that dot the city like mushrooms after a winter rain, is pretty well branded, with neat logos and mugs, so I think that people new to the city would enjoy a first-time visit. Second or repeat visits would depend on how closely the DG coffee house model fits your own style and caffeinated needs. But at least try it. You might like it! I even have been known to Starbucks from time to time, and I can still live with myself the morning after. And the DG is better than Starbucks. Maybe that's not saying much, but surely it's something! read more

I guess I wasn't around for the good ole days at the Grind that everyone talks about. I've been going there for 4-5 years off and on because, like it or not, it's open later than most places. (10 pm on weeknights). But at 9:30, or sometimes even 9:15, they start herding you towards the door. First they close the "upstairs," then they start putting up chairs and making announcements. The times I've tried it during the day I've had to wait way too long for service, and the food is overpriced. (although they did get rid of that glass case that always had flies buzzing around in it, for which I am grateful.) I've heard that Daily Grind is a chain out of Virgina. I've seen a few around town but they haven't done too well. There's one opening in Canton "soon"--maybe that's the right place for them. read more

This is a great spot to unwind with your grind. Friendly service, standard prices, and great flavours. It can quickly become crowded though, as people with laptops are scattered about, doing what they do. But aside from that, I'd highly suggest it as a perfect spot for a casual date. This place definitely wasn't the best experience I've ever had in Fells Point. When you walk in, it's not what you expect from the outside: the coffee shop is large and has many rooms to sit in. Honestly, probably far too many. I didn't really see that many people sitting down except in the front room. The back rooms had such a stiff air to them, not cozy at all. I had an Iced Chai and a Lox and the Works bagel. Seeing they had gluten free baked items on their site, I'd hoped they had gluten free bagels for customers that can't consume gluten. Nope. Not sure if I just came on a bad day with no GF bagels or they honestly don't care about their celiac customers who want an actual lunch with substance and not a scone. Feeling like I was already sucked into commitment with this place, I ate a regular everything bagel (only to have my mild gluten intolerance greet me later with a horrible stomach ache) and it was pretty okay. Nothing really that special. Their iced chai was nothing great either, it was pretty weak and 70% ice. I'm not really intending on coming back here. I had really high hopes for this place. read more

This might (might!) make sense if it was a small shop that fills up without space for others. But this place is HUGE with tons of tables. Don't you want to keep business? I asked for a Caprese salad instead of a Caprese sandwich s... which was not caprese, it was just really freaking gross grape tomatoes soaked in pesto.... what? I asked for their tea selection and they told me their tea of the day. I asked what else they had and they said they weren't "brewing" more than the one they had available... uhhhhhhh, what? You have ONE tea? You don't just have teabags and hot water? It seriously was not a concept they had heard of because the dude looked at me like I had three heads and repeated himself. This place was within a block of our hotel and I was really grateful for that. It had tons of baked treats that I unfortunately didn't try but wish I did. Instead I went with a skim dirty chai. The price was about average for a city cafe (around 5 bucks) and the drink was really good. The space is huge and would be the type of place I'd hang out in doing work. You were pretty much all but guaranteed to hear Leroy exclaim that to every female who walked by this joint, sitting at one of the outdoor tables, smoking his cigarettes. The coffee here is pretty meh. The mixed coffee drinks were hit or miss, depending on who was working. The pastries were kind of sad. Everything about this place screamed mediocrity. Some of the staff were pretty decent, but others were cold and gave you nothing but attitude. More than once I wanted to exclaim, "look...you work in a subpar coffee shop...in a has-been neighborhood in Baltimore...get over yourself!" But of course I never did. The daily grind is a fairly standard independent coffee shop close to my house. The layout inside is pretty cool, it is like a repurposed rowhouse, complete with separate rooms and some brick walls. Their coffee is pretty average. Definitely not bad, but nothing too extraordinary. The quiche they have is also ok, it wasn't as fluffy as some that I have had (though, perhaps it would be better if I hadn't ordered it at the end of the day)! If you have a sweet-tooth like me, though, make sure you try the caramels they have next to the register. Those are reallly tasty! This is a really great environment to get schoolwork done. There is plentiful seating, and no one bothers you. Others have figured this fact out too, and about 50% of the people in the coffee shop are students who live in the area studying/checking facebook/writing yelp reviews. Though the baristas are nice (I spilt my coffee and I got a fresh one for free!), the vibe the place gives off isn't incredibly warm. It has a bit more of a starbucks/yuppy feel, with a bunch of disconnected people working far apart from each other, than some of the cooler neighborhood coffee shops I have found. However, if all you want to do is have a place to study/work with free wifi and a constant supply of caffeine, Daily Grind is a great option! Also, they stop serving hot food after 4pm! read more

We found ourselves running along the Fells Point piers on Saturday morning and towards the end, very hungry and in the need of coffee. We stumbled upon Daily Grind and found all that we were looking for - good food, good coffee, quick service, and a unique ambiance. Apparently Daily Grind is a chain with 55 locations and 13 more "coming soon." They even have a few locations in Southern California! They truly are masters of disguise, masking their true "coffee shop chain" identity. A coffee house that's part Starbucks, part Central Perk? Sign me up! Daily Grind has all the makings of a hip and cool coffee shop that could easily become your regular hangout. It's got an inviting storefront, lots of weird things hanging on the walls and shelves full of packaged coffee for sale. It also has very clean bathrooms, lots of tables and a weird guy at the entrance randomly complimenting people's shirts and hats. I am not even kidding. The best thing about this Daily Grind is the seating area. You order your coffee at the counter in the main room, and then proceed to one of the two rooms in the back. The rooms have beautiful skylights and patio doors opening to a quiet backyard. Exposed brick, serene pastel colors and faux windows make you feel as though you are enjoying a beautiful afternoon at your country house. No wonder Daily Grind's tagline is "Unwind." How can you not? Of course if you can't afford to "unwind," bring your laptop, your homework or your unfinished manuscript and get to work. See and be seen at Daily Grind! As the all-important Family Guy quote goes: "Man 1: Hey, gettin' some writing done there, buddy? Man 2: Yeah, settin' up in public so everybody can watch me type my big screenplay. Man 1: Me too. All real writers need to be seen writing, otherwise, what's the point, right? Man 2: You should totally write that down. Man 1: OK. Will you watch me?"
