My husband loved his butterscotch sundae. The service is good but I will say this facility is cash only so make sure to bring cash. There's limited seating since it's an outdoor venue with no restrooms. This place is always busy and I totally understand why everyone loves it here. This is a great little spot to get an ice cream treat in the summer. We were running some errands at shops on Brecksville Rd and decided to give it a try. Although they offer a variety of sundaes, blizzards, and other novelty items, I went with a classic double scoop of hard dipped mint chocolate chip and o-o-Oreo. Let me tell you, the amount of Oreos in that scoop was beyond impressive! The size of the serving in general was great at a price of $4.00. The service was quick and the girl working the counter was kind and attentive. It also has a knockoff specialty called Earthquakes. These are custards with mix ins like candy pieces. It's about $2 for a slushie or a cone. The prices are higher than at some places but you usually will get a lot for it. It remains a favorite place in Independence to get ice cream. The only downside is they only except cash and the parking is sparse so try to time it before rather than after local baseball games. Sprinkles!!!! Sprinklessssss!!!!!!!! I've heard a lot about this place (lots of clevelanders rave about Dairy King), so we were in the area, saw it, made a u-turn, and went to the outdoor stand. It's been pretty interesting the number of frozen custard places in northeast Ohio. Until I moved to Ohio, I don't think I had ever had the smoothness of frozen custard- and boy do I love it. We got a small original vanilla cone. The custard is very soft- to be honest, we prefer east coast custard for the fact it's harder and keeps it's shape better. But the custard was pretty good. However, the topping or "types of cone" is really what puts this place over the edge. They have an option of crunch cone (peanut brittle with other crunchy stuff), dip (I think that was fudge), and just sprinkles. Now, I loveeeeeee sprinkles, so we had to get that cone. It was amazing. It's not just the a "oh let me sprinkle a few sprinkles on your cone", it was more like "let me cover your entire custard with sprinkles so you see no white part at all". And it was amazing! I kept giggling because I was so happy crunching away at my sprinkles. Munch munch munch. Giggle of happiness. Munch munch munch. I really should know better but ordering a chocolate soda is how I test whether the owners of an ice cream stand actually care about what they're doing. Dairy King failed the quiz. The reviews below are mostly dead on. They hire very young girls (never ever seen a male in there; it makes me wonder about the hiring practices) and they don't really do anything to manage quality of service. People love the place because you love your local ice cream stand; I still love it - it kind of completes the small towny feel Independence still has - but really, dropping some chocolate soft serve into a cup of soda water? Gross. Waste of $3. And I didn't go back to talk to the girl because I'm pretty sure it's not her fault. Train your people and quiz them. They need to know how to make stuff. They have a couple picnic tables and offer a pretty standard variety of shakes, sundaes, cones, etc. They usually have about 10 flavors of hand dipped ice cream as well as the soft serve. When we're in the market for ice cream, we'll usually choose Dairy King over McDonald's or Dairy Queen. My husband always has a tough time deciding what to get at Dairy King. He loves the hot caramel sundae, but can't decide on a size. The small is a reasonable amount of ice cream for about $4, but the large is about 4 times bigger for only about $1 more. I've driven by a few times and decided to stop in. I love ice cream and custard. I decided to get a custard with a flavor ripple. At first I thought the prices for cones were high, but you get a pretty big cone, so no complaints there. The custard is creamy and well flavored, sweet but not too sweet. I was the only one there, mid afternoon during the week. My only complaint is that the cone may have been stale. It was pretty hot and humid and the custard melted like crazy. It could've been the cone was sitting in melted custard too long by the time I got to it. I'd go back again. read more
