A major staple for Orangeburg. One of my favorite places to dine at back in the day. They are always crowded in the drive thru, but luckily the lobby is open. Down home cooking like your grandma used to do back in the day. They offer hotdogs, curly burgers (patty w/pimento cheese), BBQ sandwiches, and fries. Various baskets such as liver and gizzards as well as fish and shrimp baskets. I haven't had one since I was younger, but I hear they still make the best fried bologna sandwiches around. Pimento cheese and grilled cheese are available as well. Nothing much has changed with the structure of the place. It could used a make over. The young lady that took my order was friendly. Others prepping in the back seemed a little odd. I'm not a regular, anymore, so trying to figure out who I was. The food is still good. I grabbed a hot dog with chili, meant to say sausage dog which is really good. Also got a curly Burger and a barbecue sandwich with slaw for my parents. Every time I visit my hometown, I have to stop by the Dairy O. It's been a staple since I can remember. I always go with the chili dog which is simple but delicious. The service is always nice and the line is usually around the block. It may look like a hole in the wall but the food is great. I was so craving a home style non fast food burger,so we were happy to find Dairy O on yelp during our road trip. Never been here so wasn't sure what to order. Usually at drive in type places that have a single and a double version of a burger the patties are more modest in size. I wasn't that hungry so we both ordered a single and glad we did. The Kaiser bun was huge ( an immediate turn off). The toppings such as the tomatoes, were sad....mealy and watery. The meat was definitely previously frozen and not shaped by hand. The taste suffered as a result. The sandwich just wasn't appetizing, and for the price, a waste of money. This place was crossed off our list for any future food needs. read more

I love going to this place when i'm in the area. Amazing southern comfort food. Their french fries are the best I've had anywhere and I love their chocalate shakes and homemade cherry coke. The only issue I have is the staff isn't always friendly but the food is great! read more

This place has great food but extremely terrible service if you show up 20 minutes prior to closing. I arrived at 8:40 pm and one of the girls running the register acted like I ruined her entire day! I wonder if they act that way during the day when the owner or manager is still there! Then again, this IS Orangeburg SC so what did I expect. I guess I'm the dummy for expecting quality service! The Dairy-o has long been a favorite stop on our trips to the SC coast. The Curly Burger is an original creation here and should not be missed! I've tried many knockoff versions but none can touch the large, freshly-cooked burger generously topped with onion, tomato, lettuce, and a generous dollop of homemade pimento cheese. Burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, fries--all are great and served hot and fresh. Soft serve ice cream and many flavors of milkshakes round out your meal. Also, the fried chicken livers are awesome if you like livers. Portions are generous and service has always been good. To the earlier review (rant?) please note that all food is cooked to order, hot, and fresh. Maybe you prefer mass- produced and assembled items sitting for who knows how long under heat lamps. Classic. The dogs are good. Hamburger is ok. The shakes are very good. But my favorites are the pimento cheese sandwich and the bologna sandwich. The pimento cheese comes on buttery grilled white bread and is messy. Comes in wax paper. Will be something you will never forget. The Bologna comes with a thick fried piece of bologna. My sister and I make sure we stop at Dairy O every trip to Orangeburg to get curly burgers and milkshakes. I've been going for over 10 years now and they have yet to disappoint me. The wait time is usually kinda long, but the food is made to order. I've never been in a hurry when I've visited so the wait has never been a problem for me. I recently ordered a banana split from the Dairy-O and that was the WORST banana split I have ever eaten! The customer service at the window was HORRIBLE! It was a young female that was working the window and she had no kind of customer service skills...what so-ever! I have NEVER had a banana split that had NO fruit..just a bunch of chocolate syrup!
