Ice cream is what I call a good bad life decision. It's good because it is delicious, but it is bad…read morebecause (as a lactose intolerant person) it ends up hurting me. And yes there's frozen yogurt (which I can handle a bit better) and milk free desserts like sorbet, but sometimes a girl just wants a bit of ice cream dagnabbit! Enter the recently opened (as of April 1 - no foolin), Happy Chappy Ice Cream Shop. This is an ice cream parlour that serves 30 different flavours of Chapman's hard ice cream. If I'm gonna risk a little pain later for a tasty treat now then Chapman's is a good way to go. The ice cream shop is a little difficult to find, but not impossible. From 50th Street you turn into the parking for Hugh's Car Wash, but in the lot take an immediate left and go around the side of the north building. Happy Chappy is near the back facing the Panda Hut Express across the way. Yes, it's a bit of an odd location for an ice cream parlour, but it's ice cream and I'm not complaining. Personally, I'm just glad it's somewhere other than in Leduc Common. The Ice Cream shop is pretty small. It's a basic walk-in and order and go kind of deal. There is a bench on the back wall, but there isn't any room for any tables or chairs. They advertise 30 different flavours, most hard ice cream, but I also saw a few frozen yogurt and sorbet flavours. They've got some standards (chocolate, vanilla), but also there are more fun flavors too. I tried the Raspberry Rocky Road, which is a vanilla and raspberry ice cream with chocolate chunks. Yum. The lady working (likely the owner) was very friendly and happy to answer any questions I had. Despite the hidden location, I hope this ice cream shop does well. Leduc doesn't always have a place to get hard ice cream, and this fits the bill perfectly. As I was going in I saw a family with five kids leave, so I'm sure it will get busier as the weather (hopefully) gets nicer. They're open from 2pm to 9pm every day so you can hit your ice cream craving in the afternoon and in the evening as well. It might be a good bad life decision, but I'll come back here again.

Decent stop for a solid variety of choices for ice cream flavors and of the classics too. Very rare…read moreto find the place without a few people already in line, be it middle of the day or evening, even if it is cloudy, windy and/or sunny. They have decent sized scoops for the price and kind staff. Picnic tables and chairs on either side of the shack. Usually see the place busy with families that fill up the picnic tables. I have made this place an option several years in a row for my larger cousin gatherings of summer ice cream enjoyment for birthday celebrations. Finding it is really easy and you can see it right off Broadmoor. If you miss the corner, just go around the block. Best to go into the parking lot knowing that most of the foot traffic is right there at the entrance with ice cream in hand. So a lot of people are distracted with their choice of happiness. Like most seasonal shacks, there's no bathroom but GoodBuddy is connected somehow and they let ice cream patrons use the washroom. That's a really nice perk. Also a nice nod to the many dogs that are in the area, there is a dog water dish by the platform. I have yet to hear anyone ask for a pup cup there. Maybe that isn't an option? Downside, you're in full sun (unless you snag as spot on the berm under a few of the trees) or lucky to sit under the a few umbrellas that on the picnic tables but that is it. So on the full summer hot days, you tend to scurry back to the AC of the vehicle vs just sit and enjoy (as that pavement really radiates the heat). For families, it is good to realize this is in a parking lot that is surrounded by other shops and restaurants. Also, just off two busy roads. My last visit there, we spent the half hour saying on repeat, ''don't go that far", "watch for cars", "you have to sit down as it isn't safe", etc. It really boggles my mind that as such a staple in the neighborhood for families to gather, that they don't even have a little barrier set up for the seating area. Even if it was least on the side of the parking lot entrance, that would add as some level of safety. Not everyone drives in reasonably slow or attentive but please keep in mind that kids are distracted with ice cream happiness as are adults too. As a disabled person, I have to mention that neither side of the platform has an accessible ramp to walk or roll up/down. You depend on someone else to order your ice cream if that step up is a barrier for you or hope to heck whatever you're grabbing as you step up is solid enough (as no grab bars either). There's been days where the parking lot itself is so busy that I don't stop there, as I feel it wouldn't be safe walking a further distance to reach the shack as a cane user. However, I save going here when my mobility is on a better day being that it is a significant step up for a cane user. Overall, decent place but room for improvement.

Easy to find via Google Maps. You can see it on the corner of the lot and lots of parking in front…read more Staff was super friendly and let me take my time deciding. So many flavors. I got the feature flavor Cookie Beast. $5.50 for 1 scoop in a cup. Extra if I wanted a waffle cone. A little too pricey for my liking but ice cream was 9/10 good. 10/10 texture, creamy, smooth, lots of cookie chunks. I would have liked a stronger vanilla taste but the color was 10/10 fun too. Overall a very great spot with some tasty ice cream if you don't mind the cost for the experience.
