Suggestions are shrimp dishes, gumbo, crawfish, & sandwiches. Over half the customers are locals & regulars. As other local eateries decline, Rice Palace improves. Rear (North side) parking is easiest & offers some shade. Auto fuel at West side entry, truck services on North plaza. Do try this restaurant.

Here today! Myself…read moreand 3 of my coworkers was on our way to Florida, 2 were truck drivers. For anyone that doesn't know, truck drivers and bus drivers know the best places to eat. I had no suggestions, all I knew was I knew of the best place to get some boudin balls. Picture the 4 of us hungry hippos talking over each other wanting what we want and all claiming we knew the best place to get the best of what we craved. I cleared the least hours so when it came to driving, NOT me but I totally forgot we were passing through Louisiana so I acted exhausted and chose the rear of the van so count me out the equation hahaha. The rule of thumb is the driver gets the final say on where we stop to eat and he CLAIMED the place he knew had great food including boudin balls (I'm in the rear flipping through my Yelp reviews searching for the place I was insisted on stopping at). Ok so we pull up to this deserted hole in the wall (see picture) parking lot irritated voicing my disappointment and so did the other 2 except the driver who was reassuring us the food was DA BEST, he raved on and on about their food was life changing. We walk in and the place and it's DESERTED, but I did see a couple eating boudin balls so ok fine. Our waitress took our drink order, I wanted an Arnold Palmer and she explained their tea wasn't sweet because majority of their customers were seniors. As we're looking over the menu the driver wasn't, he still insisting the food was da chiii and already knew what he wanted, I'm looking for BOUDIN BALLS hangry (hungry/angry) coworker 3 saying we needed to go elsewhere, coworker 4 asking is the food even Cajun and do they have seasoning she could add. As we're ordering I asked WHERE ARE THE DANG boudin balls, she say they don't have them and what I saw the couple had was fried mushrooms balls. The driver who chose the restaurant was conveniently in the restroom! We all order and waited impatiently for our meals still complaining and small talking. Our meals arrive and the 3 of us looking at our plates like toddlers deciding if we was going to eat what we was given, the waitress said it's a lot she knows. Naw lady, this a hole in the and inflation too high to waste on food we won't like, this Louisiana and we know there's better in this State. WE took our first bites in unison and said DAMN looks are deceiving! THEEE flavor was there! Each of us started raving about what we ordered and offering each other a taste of Louisiana cooking! The portions were enough to take with us since we would be arriving in Florida late and had to clear 8 hrs before we took over our buses. We was so satisfied with the portions of out left overs that we didn't need to spend anymore money, we want to sleep the rest of the ride. WE highly recommend Rice Palace if you want to try a different restaurant in Louisiana, or a budget because eating on a road trip isn't as affordable anymore we have to be cost conscious. Here today! Yup will be back tomorrow!

Birds and stray cats are assigned that duty. 3) the food is NOT fresh. This is a fast food burger joint and everything is clearly kept in the freezer. 4) not a stop for anyone who cares about what they put in their body. Aside from the poor food options, the ice cream and drinks are all filled with fake ingredients. 5) The staff is friendly, but the service is gawd-awful S-L-O-W.... Gas stations on the interstate have MUCH better offerings....

It's just like kind of your typical drive-in with young people working who are all very nice and eager to help. With the help of the cashier, we got the bacon cheeseburger, the sweet potato fries, and the ham and cheese, which was recommended by someone else we had met earlier. I gotta say the burger was very respectable and I do definitely recommend it. No issues with small portions here it was well sized and appropriate. The sweet potato fries were very good as well. The ham and cheese wasn't as phenomenal as I was told it would be, it's like a warm sub with tomatoes and lettuce inside, but it was still pretty solid and if your ham and cheese person, then you would definitely like it. They have a lot of shakes flavors and an assortment of other burgers and sandwiches. If I lived in this area, I would definitely go back here.

I must say, the people were right! This is a casual fine in restaurant, there's drive through at the locations as well or a quick grab and go spot. Nothing against them, but a Bojangles in Baton Rouge would blow Raising Canes out of the water! The tenders are seasoned to perfection and don't require their sauce, although there are a variety from BBQ, jalapeño ranch, peach honey hot, buffalo, the Bo sauce- their signature, honey mustard and more! The fries are seasoned perfectly also. I tried the Bo berry shake which could've had more blueberry in it but it was still delightful. The homemade biscuits top off the meal; their strawberry sweet tea was amazing and refreshing, not too sweet but great for a hot day. We also had the baked Mac and cheese and blackberry cobbler. My family is already planning our next trip back here . I can't wait to try the sweet potato pie I hear another location has. 10/10 will try again soon!

The manager needs to be fired for a horrible attitude. Honestly I never say this but her attitude is so horrible and Ghetto. Don't go there cause I bet from her attitude they spit in the food. 0/10. So disrespectful for no reason I was quiet and waited on my phone the whole time. Also for one biscuit it took over 20 minutes. Also I wouldn't be surprised if she's the type of manager that would throw a drink at a customer or some shit but I see that she just really hates her life so it's sad that's how she decides to handle her anger. If you have a lot of anger like that maybe get a job that you actually like and can do cause clearly a job with customer service isn't the best pick for a bitch.

We got the 8-piece dark meat chicken only, plus a biscuit and a medium rice dressing, and it was a lot of food for two people. The chicken was super juicy with a little kick of spice, crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly inside. The biscuit was bigger than your average biscuit--soft, buttery, and really good. The rice dressing could use a little more flavor. It reminded me of Popeyes, but with its own unique touch. Definitely worth a visit!

Mama's Chicken -- Opelousas, LA (Where diets go to die and…read morenobody's sorry about it) We rolled into Opelousas four deep, hungry, and feeling righteous. The mission was simple: real Louisiana fried chicken. Not "inspired by," not "elevated," not served on a slate tile with micro-greens. Just fried chicken that makes you question your life choices. With a name like Mama's Chicken, we figured we were at least in the right parish. Then we walked in. Packed. Locals everywhere. No tourists asking what a roux is. That's when you know you've done something right. The table immediately locked in on fried chicken orders. Boom. Boom. Boom. Shrimp and fish po'boys tried to flirt from the menu, but we stayed faithful. This was a chicken church and we were ready to worship. Then... betrayal. A small sign. Barely noticeable. Almost whispered. Chicken & sausage gumbo today. I folded instantly. Zero resistance. Straight to jail for crimes against the fried chicken alliance. I ordered the gumbo and red beans and rice because I have impulse control issues and the Lord understands. The food landed like a heavyweight title fight. Fried chicken stacked high--golden, crackly, unapologetic. Light and dark meat with that perfect crust that snaps back at you. Mac and cheese doing grown-folk mac and cheese things. Fries seasoned like somebody actually cared. And then my bowl showed up. That gumbo was dark-dark. The kind of roux that lets you know it's been places. Thick, rich, unctuous, and absolutely not here to be polite. Chicken and sausage swimming like they belonged there--because they did. The red beans? Creamy, silky, plump, and riding that rice like they've been together since high school. Let me be clear: You don't know fried chicken gumbo. You think you do. But you don't--until Mama's humbles you. Mama's Chicken doesn't need hype. It doesn't need branding. It doesn't need your Yelp opinion. It just keeps feeding locals and ruining outsiders' expectations of what "good" used to mean. Come hungry. Leave happy. Nap immediately. And don't pretend you're ordering the salad.
