we stopped here on a whim on our way to New Orleans after I did a yelp search in this town. Rocket drive-in popped up as one of the top places to get a burger in this area. It's just like kind of your typical drive-in with young people working who are all very nice and eager to help. With the help of the cashier, we got the bacon cheeseburger, the sweet potato fries, and the ham and cheese, which was recommended by someone else we had met earlier. I gotta say the burger was very respectable and I do definitely recommend it. No issues with small portions here it was well sized and appropriate. The sweet potato fries were very good as well. The ham and cheese wasn't as phenomenal as I was told it would be, it's like a warm sub with tomatoes and lettuce inside, but it was still pretty solid and if your ham and cheese person, then you would definitely like it. But hang in there, drive about a mile from the exit, hang a left and a right (let Waze guide you) and find your way to 1118 State. You'll swear you've stepped back in time, and that you're on old rt 66. Park yourself and walk up to the window. The locals will be lined up, and they don't mind if you furriners ain't from around these parts. The friendly ladies will greet you, call you sugar and baby, whip you up a milkshake and a cheeseburger dee-luxe in no time flat. No one's asking how you want it cooked - they cook it the way they have been cooking it forever - and it'll be pretty darn near the most perfect cheeseburger you can remember having. The milkshakes are, well, they should be mandatory. Point being, get one. They are rich and thick and made with real ice cream (of course). Don't come here looking for a salad, but they do have grilled cheese, fries, fried mushrooms and a few other non-meat options for you fat vegetarians. Everything here is so relaxin and tasty that you might have almost forgotten that you have to pee. Found Rockets on yelp while driving from Houston to NOLA 10/10/13! My boyfriend and I wanted a quick/fast food diner but didn't want the typical chain restaurant.... So I yelped and found this place! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger w a side of homemade onion rings & he ordered the double bacon cheeseburger w a side of fries and a chocolate banana shake. The burgers were delicious and so much better than a fast food burger! Definitely homemade patties! I would have liked mine a little less cooked but it was still full of flavor and a little juicy & just the right size! Patties where thick and fit the bun. His double was HUGE. Onion rings were ok.... I think maybe they had been ready for a while so weren't super fresh.... Fries were the same. Had they been hot I think they may have been decent tasting. Last but not least, my boyfriends shake??? OMG! Out of this world delicious! Fresh banana chunks blended perfectly in the chocolate ice cream!! I wished I had gotten one too!;) They staff were really nice and super accommodating! TRUST ME). The shakes are really, really good. Cherry shakes have little bits of cherry mixed in. Heavenly! Who else even offers a cherry shake, much less a great one? Lots of other flavors, as well. The burgers/cheeseburgers are of the thin, diner/grill/drive-in variety and are delicious. Delicious! The fries are decent, and always piping hot. My sister swears by the homemade onion rings. Simply put, this restaurant is the last of the great mom and pop food stops. The burgers here are always cooked to perfection, and no matter what you want, they cook it to order.
