For a truck stop, the food here is always great. Some year or two back, the kitchen suddenly improved noticeably. I now have lunch here several times a month. Suggestions are shrimp dishes, gumbo, crawfish, & sandwiches. Over half the customers are locals & regulars. As other local eateries decline, Rice Palace improves. Here today! Myself and 3 of my coworkers was on our way to Florida, 2 were truck drivers. For anyone that doesn't know, truck drivers and bus drivers know the best places to eat. I had no suggestions, all I knew was I knew of the best place to get some boudin balls. Picture the 4 of us hungry hippos talking over each other wanting what we want and all claiming we knew the best place to get the best of what we craved. I cleared the least hours so when it came to driving, NOT me but I totally forgot we were passing through Louisiana so I acted exhausted and chose the rear of the van so count me out the equation hahaha. The rule of thumb is the driver gets the final say on where we stop to eat and he CLAIMED the place he knew had great food including boudin balls (I'm in the rear flipping through my Yelp reviews searching for the place I was insisted on stopping at). Ok so we pull up to this deserted hole in the wall (see picture) parking lot irritated voicing my disappointment and so did the other 2 except the driver who was reassuring us the food was DA BEST, he raved on and on about their food was life changing. We walk in and the place and it's DESERTED, but I did see a couple eating boudin balls so ok fine. Our waitress took our drink order, I wanted an Arnold Palmer and she explained their tea wasn't sweet because majority of their customers were seniors. As we're looking over the menu the driver wasn't, he still insisting the food was da chiii and already knew what he wanted, I'm looking for BOUDIN BALLS hangry (hungry/angry) coworker 3 saying we needed to go elsewhere, coworker 4 asking is the food even Cajun and do they have seasoning she could add. As we're ordering I asked WHERE ARE THE DANG boudin balls, she say they don't have them and what I saw the couple had was fried mushrooms balls. The driver who chose the restaurant was conveniently in the restroom! We all order and waited impatiently for our meals still complaining and small talking. Our meals arrive and the 3 of us looking at our plates like toddlers deciding if we was going to eat what we was given, the waitress said it's a lot she knows. Naw lady, this a hole in the and inflation too high to waste on food we won't like, this Louisiana and we know there's better in this State. WE took our first bites in unison and said DAMN looks are deceiving! THEEE flavor was there! Each of us started raving about what we ordered and offering each other a taste of Louisiana cooking! The portions were enough to take with us since we would be arriving in Florida late and had to clear 8 hrs before we took over our buses. We was so satisfied with the portions of out left overs that we didn't need to spend anymore money, we want to sleep the rest of the ride. WE highly recommend Rice Palace if you want to try a different restaurant in Louisiana, or a budget because eating on a road trip isn't as affordable anymore we have to be cost conscious. Here today! Several years ago, Rice Palace was one of my favorite places to stop for a Cajun meal while driving through on I-10. It had an excellent lunch buffet (5) along with other menu items all at reasonable prices. Then around the beginning of Covid they completely remodeled the restaurant and menu making both more upscale and expensive, of course. During my last visit in early 2021 this place had gone upscale and posted signage about how strict they were about Covid and mask wearing. At that time almost none of the staff and cooks were wearing masks or had them covering their necks and not their mouths. The food was good that day but this total lack of Covid courtesy caused me to give a 1 review. Last weekend it was dinner time and I was on I-10 close by and decided to give them another chance. Inside they weren't busy on that Sunday night about 7 pm. I ordered the tilapia supreme entree for $18 which is one of the least expensive meals on the menu with most items in the mid and upper $20's. It came with a side salad and my chosen side dish was rice dressing along with a roll. The salad arrived first but it was 30 minutes before the rest of the meal showed up. And there weren't many people dining at that time. Taste wise I was a little underwhelmed. The grilled tilapia was topped with "supreme sauce" was just ok and I will say I have had many portions of dirty rice better than that one. It wasn't a bad meal but rather ordinary and with the long delivery time made me rate this meal no higher than a 3. Perhaps other menu items are better but I don't think I will be returning and seek out other nearby places to try when it's time to eat. read more

While on a road trip through Louisiana, I searched for Cajun food, but since it was quite late, this was the only nearby restaurant that was open. I ordered the gumbo, but unfortunately the rice was dry and had many hard, dried-out pieces, which was disappointing. Honestly, I felt that even a simple gumbo you can make at home with store-bought ingredients tastes better. I was really hoping to try authentic gumbo, so this was a letdown. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Not much around in the area and a restaurant attached to a gas station and casino seemed a bit sketchy. So glad we stopped in because we have our pull behind RV and parking is limited. The inside was actually really nice, not what you'd imagine for a greasy spoon type place. The breakfast menu is small but you can order it all day and get lunch or dinner at 8am. They have a real coffee bar and your traditional pot the waitress brings over. We started with fried okra for $4 (why not at 8am) It was served with homemade ranch. My husband and I both got the traditional breakfast platter and coffee and paid less than $35 for our meal with tip. We excited through the casino but refrained from losing any money. read more

Let me start off by saying how delightful this place is. The restaurant is super clean and very well maintained. We walked in and were greeted and seated quickly with our orders placed. We shared a bowl of delicious sausage and chicken gumbo. I had a beautiful, bright, colorful salad with crispy croutons, sautéed broccoli (that was absolutely fantastic), and the Crawfish Trap. The trap is a grilled fish fillet topped with crawfish etouffee. My husband had the special, which was fried chicken with amazing crispy, cruchy skin, cornbread dressing, and yams. All the food came out hot with so much flavor, the Louisiana flavors that I love and crave. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating and provided me with a to-go cup of sweet tea for the road. The restaurant is located next to a truck stop right off of I-10. So, if you are a truck driver like me, there's plenty of parking to stop in for a bite to eat. read more

This roadside eatery feels surprisingly authentic and is. It's nicer inside than you might think from the surrounding area. Very friendly staff! They have lots of Cajun fare, use locally grown rice, and make lots of things themselves (like delicious ranch dressing). The portions are generous. We ordered small sizes and couldn't finish. The prices are more than reasonable. I can't remember the last time a lunch for two cost me only $30 with tip. There's a lot of history to this nice little place. You won't be sorry if you give them a try. read more

Rice Palace hangs off the side of a casino. Rectangular room, very simple, plain decor, we were not expecting much. But the food... I had the red beans and sausage plate. The sausage was truly high quality meat, and the seasoning of the entire dish was absolutely perfect. My wife had the fish strips and shrimp plate with onion rings. She rated it "very good," though the onion rings were bland. The service could have been more attentive, especially since only two tables were occupied. The complimentary soft-serv dessert for diners was a very welcome touch. I'd definitely go back here, especially since on certain nights of the week, the pickings are slim indeed in Egan. read more

Nice place. The staff were very pleasant. The wait for the food was very long. I must say, it was definitely worth the wait. The Cajun Omelette is so delicious. It was cooked to perfection and the portion size was adequate. With the Cajun omelette, you can choose between shrimp or crawfish. I had never tried crawfish so I did and I am so glad I did. After eating a wonderful meal, we went to the casino lounge next door. 2/3 of us won money. It was a lot of fun. I would definitely come back when I am driving to Louisiana from Texas. read more

We made an unexpected stop at Rice Palace for breakfast. We hadn't planned the stop but were caught in a nasty thunderstorm. Just before the exit we noticed a big parking lot and it looked like easy on and off to the freeway for our motorhome. We ordered breakfast and since we were drenched from the rain one of the servers offered me her umbrella to get my jacket out of our vehicle. That was very nice indeed. Our breakfast was good. I ordered the omelet and my husband ordered eggs and toast. Breakfast was cooked perfectly. We had no complaints about that or about the service. It was definitely a good place to stop. This was a great roadside find on my way hone to New Orleans. The menu has a great selection all the Cajun cuisine you would expect and some other diner favorites. They had chicken fried steak, hamburger steak catfish platter. 3 types of gumbo. I ordered the chicken sausage gumbo and the waitress reminded me about the all you can eat buffet, which was2 dollars cheaper with more variety, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese fried chicken, and rice for the gumbo. The Rice Palace has great home style cooking food. The flavors are really good the feeling you get is going to. Family or friends house to eat. This was a really good food experience. Well we were in rural Louisiana traveling on the highway adjacent to the Rice Palace and it had the best reviews so we took a chance and stopped there for dinner. Our waiter was good but the food unfortunately was not. It seemed to have been pulled from the fridge and warmed up. Perhaps this is convenient for the restaurant because they have so many items on the menu but it doesn't work that well for patrons. The cornbread was hard. HARD! Stale? Dry? The food was really awesome, though the gumbo needed a little spicing up. I had the crab and shrimp pasta and both were cooked perfectly and their potato salad was to die for. Surprisingly good food for a restaurant along the I-10 interstate highway. We came from Lake Charles and on our way back home to New Orleans on a late Sunday night and we were hungry and saw a big billboard sign of the restaurant and decided to try it out. We had the firecracker shrimp appetizer with was fried shrimp stuffed with cream cheese then breaded and wrapped in bacon it was the highlight of our meal because it was the bomb. Our entrees include cajun pasta with blackened chicken and catfish and shrimp fried platters and we both enjoyed them and they're huge in portions so we ended up boxing it up and had meals the next day lol. It's worth the try if you're traveling and hungry. read more

The best chicken and sausage gumbo on earth! The seafood gumbo is okay too, but nothing to crow about. The crawfish bisque is not one of my faves, but it is tasty enough. The prices are a steal and the food is consistent. My heart is broken that they've recently taken off the eggplant arcadia or whatever it was called. I have never had better eggplant and I'm a bit of an afficianado. Get the Cat Trap, amazing fried catfish, order it with the crawfish etoufee on the side rather than poured over it and pick the rice dressing as your side. Spicy andouille filled rice that will have you asking, "Who dat?" Not fancy, and not convenient, but well worth the stop! read more

It's a truck stop/ restaurant/ casino .The restaurant is open for 24 hours , buffet , full bar , and conjoined casino area ( just video poker machine )next to restaurant . The food taste pretty good . Appetizer :stuffed buffalo chicken bites is delicious , crab cake also delicious I ordered exit-80 burger (1/4 lbs) w corn nuggets , my husband ordered classic Rubin sandwich . Found this place on my own driving down the road...It is hard to find a place to get a semi in,I prefer not to park in the big truck stops with the fast food places.I hate eating like a trash panda. Alright y'all, here's the deal y'all. Y'all should eat here. I've had a lot of bs Cajun food in my day and this is not one of those places. Was it perfect, no; but it had some highlights. It had some highlights indeed. Their salad bar had a great potato salad and a shrimp and okra gumbo that had that nice dark chocolate roux. The bar had crawfish corn bisque that was heavenly. Heavenly I tell you. The A2Fe tasted like pure butter which is good...and after a while bad. Now, I wouldn't recommend the jambalaya prolly cause it's a regional thing. I've had red jambalayas and brown jambalayas and this was neither. It was white rice, not brown or red. The other downside is that the rice on the etoufee was crunchy like the scraped it from the bottom of the pot. You's the rice palace. Luckily they had rice at the salad bar. I'll come back here I guarantee. It was a fine meal, a damn fine meal. A real damn fine meal. read more
