The restaurant is a combination of what looks to be an old industrial building with an uninsulated shed structure attached. The shed, the lower and larger dining area where you enter, is heated and air conditioned. Grab a table there. Today the AC was working hard. It was comfortable even on this hot muggy day. Nothing fancy here. A functional back street BBQ joint. Very nice and obviously patriotic folks run this restaurant. The lady that served us was pleasant and friendly. The restaurant offers the basics with a little of their own spin on the menu. For me, I tried something different, the Diablo Sandwich. Referred to on the menu as spicey. The lady serving us described it as a version of a Sloppy Joe (chopped brisket, BBQ sauce, peppers and onions). For the sides, I picked Cowboy Beans and Confetti Cole Slaw. The sandwich was very tasty. With several generous applications of the house made Hot BBQ sauce I was able to bring the heat level to what I consider spicey. Same with the beans. The slaw, average. My wife had the sliced brisket with the Rustic Potato salad. A fair serving of tender lean brisket. It had a smokey bark, not covered with an overpowering rub. Good, but she commented that it was a little dry. Sauce was needed. A big dallop of delicious fresh potato salad was her side dish. The restaurant is easy to find. These hand held pockets of goodness are just that. They use the softest dough & add the perfect amount of melty cheese, chopped ham & jalapeños. Breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, these are the perfect item to grab when you're on the go. We love them so much, we order 4 dozen to bring home with us. I freeze them & we pull them out as we'd like to reheat & eat. Daylight Donuts is our place to frequent our entire visit. Not only are the Cajun Pies alone worth the trip, the staff is pleasant, their selection of delicious donuts, bear claws & other sweet treats is large, while the setting is that of a small town donut shop & that too is delightful! There were only a few tables but I found a spot. While waiting there was a group on local men (ranchers) behind me. They were chatting it up and having a good time and I'm from around here but I couldn't understand a word they were saying. A little fear creeped in as I was clearly out of my element. Just then the girl brought me my plate and I hungrily dug in. The first bite was amazing the beef flavor was the best I've ever had with melted cheese and what appeared to be home grown tomatoes and Ice cold crispy lettuce and great pickles. The French Fries were fresh cut and very hot and I salted them immediately. This turned out to be the best Cheeseburger and French Fries I've ever had and I've had them all over the United States. By half way through I needed more napkins the beef was so juicy that by the end I was looking for a garden hose to clean up with. I felt lucky to have escaped unharmed and I still don't know what those cowboys were saying, I'm sure they were plotting my demise so I just didn't make eye contact.
