Really really surprised with this. The two Dairy Queen's by us are great. Was hungry on the way up north so I see the DQ sign and Hardee's. Know what let's do DQ and have one of their burger specials with the Sunday. Nope not here. Ok let's still have the burger combo. Think of the worst Burger King you ever had. This was worse. Never knew DQ could be this bad. Lots of local kids were there and loved it. So for the kids it's a great place to use mom and dad's credit card at. But for us 40 somethings keep on going by. Fries were horrible. Burger was nasty. Even the Heinz's catchup was rancid. Was going to get a blizzard for desert but my stomach wasn't up for it. Got up here to the cabin and dropped a grade a++ deuce and I'm not a 1030 at night type of guy. And it looks like corporate left a response but they don't really care. read more

Only came for the Dairy Queen ice cream treats! I requested & got my fav DQ my way: a Peanut Butter Parfait made with caramel instead of hot fudge chocolate! Thank you servers! We enjoyed our treats outside on the patio area since we rode our bicycles here on the Great Northern Trail from Elk River. There was a little traffic noise from the highway but it's nice that this Dairy Queen has a place to park our bikes & eat outside! read more

For years this location has been extremely slow. I had went to this location 2 hours before closing and they said their machines were not working. I try to order something else and something else wasn't working. It was the same story for the other customers in the drive through. Some businesses leave a notice that they will close early due to short staffing. Although this does not look good for their business, I still believe that the employees want to close early when there isn't a manager on the floor. The blizzards I order from here are meh. Other locations make them taste better. One time, I could hear a person taking orders mock the customer in the drive through right in front of me as I was paying. They must think their customers are dumb to not know what's going on? read more

This was my first visit to the Dairy Queen in Zimmerman. First impression was the food is typical expected Dairy Queen food. We got the burger with fries- average. We also got the Sundaes which were very good. Service was quick and positive. We came at 3 pm on a Monday and they were very busy keeping up with customer orders. We dined inside expecting to get our food at a normal time. Nope! we ended up waiting 40 minutes because our order was forgotten, Had stuff to do later that day and we ended up being late because they forgot our order, should've just gone to subway! We only ordered 2 meal deals, they were busy but only attended to newer customers who ordered after us also attended to drive thru. I have learned to only order ice cream at this location. The last 3 times I have ordered food (usually around 5:30-6:00p), the cheeseburger bun was rubbery and the onion rings had to have been 20-30 min old and sitting in a warmer and cold. I am not sure why they can't get the food part right, and feel they need to take short cuts. There are only 2 fast food spots in Zimmerman, so I guess when I'm a hurry, Hardee's it is. read more

We use this location probably 3-5 times a month. The past 3 visits I've gotten different blizzards but they all have a taste of chemicals to them. I've spoken with friends who work at another location and they say it's due to the chemicals used to clean the machines but not being rinse out fully before using...I'm completely disgusted as I was pregnant when this happened.... read more

A follow up to my last review....After sending DQ Corporate office a letter about our families experience at the Zimmerman DQ, they refunded my charges. But unfortunately no changes will be made to their business and the owner will always just give a canned response to its unhappy customers. It does appear that the DQ franchise does not take any pride in the name any more. Par for the course these days. read more

I love this Dairy Queen! Reading the reviews from years ago, I'm honestly shocked... This DQ has the nicest, most professional staff that I've seen in a long time. Their manager is extremely attentive and is making great business decisions, which shows through their service and quality of food! Not to sound judgmental, but I'm honestly shocked the staff are as young as they are after ordering at drive-thru - because they are SO professional and courteous!! I've even gone through drive-thru thinking I would know who was working, because of my great experience, only to be surprised by a new face - meaning they have several AMAZING employees!!! As I pulled up to order on a super shit speaker they say "only allowed one free cone and the system is down." which I wanted food as well. I know their "system" wasn't down they are just LAZY. I politely declined and I said I'll go somewhere else. I hear a male voice say "ok then go away." Yeah I didn't take that politely. I saw a male who looked like he could've used a shower and a long blond haired female working the drive thru window after driving away. Nevertheless I will not be returning to this location. We waited awhile for our simple orders (grilled cheese, burger, cheese curds) and couldn't help notice that the kitchen was very dirty and the waiting area/ eating area was too. Only the hottest spot in town but they keep it cool! Blizzards can be held upside down for 3 weeks.

Slow service. Period. Staff behave like working here is part of a court ordered sentence. Every time I've been here staff unintelligibly mumble their way through the order with a thousand yard stare off into the distance. When eating inside don't expect a clean table or chair but do expect to clean one yourself. We ate some ice cream and for the 45 minutes we were inside eating and talking not one staff cleaned any of the dirty booths and tables around us. I dared not to venture into the bathrooms... Otherwise the food is what you expect from DQ and the frozen treats are pretty good. read more

Usually hit this DQ on the way to or from the cabin. Always a cluster and their service is not very organized. Ordered a chicken strip basket and asked for BBQ sauce, ended up being charged for the sauce. Asked for ketchup and they gave me 15 packets!! Absolutely worst fast food and DQ experience/location ever!! Disgustingly dirty everywhere, tables, floors, BATHROOMS! (I'd take a gas station bathroom over this one.) Floor felt like a greasy ice rink. Employees looked dirty and displayed lack of hygiene or general care of appearance. They were also clueless about menu items. Found out they were completely out of fries, and had been for awhile, by our food being brought to us with onion rings instead, which none of us ordered or liked. Employe said, "ya sorry were out of fries and cheese curds so I gave you onion rings." WTF? This location needs some serious help and management for us to EVER consider going there again. I love DQ! I stopped by this one on my way home (East Bethel) from Crosby. Went in to order and felt invisible to the staff for quite some time. I ordered my usual fish sandwich, onion rings and small chocolate-banana malt. I always like to eat in, not in the car. They weren't busy, but it took nearly ten minutes before they brought my food. The fish and rings were over cooked. The malt wasn't mixed and was missing the banana. I thought, oh well, live and learn. Went to use the bathroom and found it filthy, leaky plumbing and paper toweling all over (no trash can). I appreciate my favorite DQ in Ham Lake all the more now. read more

I also wish I could give negative stars. It usually takes about 15 minutes to receive your messed up order, and this has been going on for YEARS!! Either your ice cream has already melted or your food will be cold by the time you receive it. Employees always look pissed off, or like the other person commented- looking like a bunch of lost puppies. They really need to bring someone in there who CARES about service...whether it's fast food or not, take some pride into your place of business/work. Went here for dinner. We waited in the drive through forever and when we finally got our food he gave us the wrong size blizzard. We just said "screw it" because we didn't want to wait any longer. When we got home I opened my hotdog and found that it was drenched in buffalo sauce instead of a plain one. Mad that I didn't have food, we called in. Stopped by at 830pm on a Sunday night for a couple of blizzards. The drive through lane was backed up 8 cars so we went inside. Wow--I have never seen anything like it in my life. The place was completely trashed. Ingredients everywhere on the counters, the floor, the mixing machines. The employees looked like they had been through world war 3. We waited for 8 minutes while they tried to prepare food for the waiting customers with nobody manning the register. Just as we though about leaving the manager comes up so we went to order just as he says "just so you know we are out of Oreo and a bunch of other mix-ins". We stop here on our way back to the cities from our cabin on Mille Lacs. Good is your usual Dairy Queen goodness... But the service is always very slow. There is always a line of a few cars... But it isn't unusual to be in line a good 10 minutes. read more

Bad sanitation practices. I have witnessed staff touching ready to eat foods with bare hands or wiping their hands on their pants to then touch the food again. I have also witnessed staff using a rag to wipe off tables and taking it directly back behind the counter to wipe the sides of a blizzard (without cleaning it off in sanitize solution) - and not washing their hands when they returned. There is one manager (younger woman) who has been there for a long time has such poor customer service skills that I am happy when she doesn't wait on me. One time I was waiting in the drive through behind another customer for a excessive amount of time. She finally came out and gave that customer a spoon. When I got to the window I asked, "Did you make us wait that whole time for a spoon?" She said, "Yes" - conversation was over because she closed the window on me. The other staff has always been friendly - unless their boyfriend/girlfriend is there - then they forget to attend to the customers first in line because they are too busy making "samples" for their friends. I usually go in the evenings and don't recall ever seeing an owner or GM there with the younger staff. All of this could be fixed with re-training. I continue to go there - hasn't made me sick yet; however, if another ice cream shop opened up in Zimmerman I would no longer spend my at this DQ. read more
