Good Lord, there is seriously nothing better than a cone of anything from Dairy Twist. Their menu ranges from the classics; a gigantic list of homemade ice cream, soft-serve ice cream *and a good half dozen dips to select from*, frozen yogurt, root beer floats, shakes, malted milkshakes, raspberry lime rickeys, brownie sundaes, *I could go on for a while* to creations like ice cream and "nachos". (Check out the cute little illustrated options posted all over the pink and white exterior!) I can't think of anything better to start off the summer season than a trip *or many* to Dairy Twist. *And only limited seasonally due to Dairy Twist closing up for the fall/ winter/ early spring, not because I don't consume massive quantities of frozen confections during the "off-season". Awesome ice cream and soft serve on the South Shore! First of all, this place isn't exactly "off the highway" so there is definitely a little bit of exploring essential to finding this place. But do not be fooled by all the cars parked along the driveway and Rt. 53. First off, this place is cash-only. Yes, the lines may be a little long. However, just be patient and tolerant of the little screaming kids trying to get their Suburban-driving-soccer-mom's-attention and the gaggle of high school kids. Like other Yelpers have said, the menu is a bit all-over-the-place, but I've noticed that if you just ask for something you really want... chances are they have it or they can make it. I really like the homemade signs and the construction paper artwork. It's a family run business! The ice cream is, in fact, THAT good. The portion sizes are massive. Even just the kiddie size is more than enough for me. I typically get a kiddie size soft serve since the large size would easily put me in a diabetic coma. Bonus for Fido: they have doggie "pup-cups" available; soft serve ice cream and a milkbone. The area around the shop is dog friendly. A summer tradition! read more

Dairy Twist is the "Best" ice cream on the south shore! Quality and Quantity here, There are so many flavors and toppings to choose from. As my family and friends know, I love vanilla. I think its the best way to tell if the ice cream is really good. Both hard and soft server here. There are often long lines and I would recommend bug spray if its a late night. Well worth the wait and well worth the drive if you're not from the area. Parking can be tricky and lighting is limited around the cars so use caution with the kids. This is absolutely my favorite ice cream place on the south shore. It's just so local. I absolutely love how the owners have this place attached to their house. All the signs are homemade, like their ice cream. The flavors are greatly varied, anyone can find something they like. If you're into soft serve, they have that too, in many different flavors. The best part about this place is that you get huge portions for your money, and they place is fairly cheap for a homemade ice cream place. My favorite is chocolate chip cookie dough, which may sound boring but no other place tops the way they do it. They added a salted caramel flavor as well last summer which made my decisions a lot harder. Try everything. Go every night. You won't be disappointed. read more

This place has been busy since the moment they opened years ago. Dairy Twist has *everything*- from soft serve to traditional hard ice cream, sorbets, sherbets, milkshakes, sundaes, toppings and dips, and a million of their own unique creations. It isn't expensive and the portion sizes are huge- we generally stick with a "kiddie" size because even the "small" is too much! Be warned- they don't take credit cards, and you WILL wait in line forever. There is barely any parking, the lines are almost out to the streets. They have a nice little area with benches to sit and eat if you'd like, so you can relax and enjoy after waiting so long to get your ice cream! If you're in the area, this is definitely the place to go. Much better than the ice cream you'd find at a regular shop (like Friendly's) and as mentioned, the cost to portion ratio is better than anywhere I've seen. One of the best parts is their soft serve. Of course they have the traditional chocolate, vanilla, and twist, but they always have other flavors that are superb. One of my favorites is the orange creamsickle, but they have a black raspberry/java that's really good and a pistachio (I can't remember what this is paired with!) that's great too. Ah, Dairy Twist. It's, first of all, a place with a lot of charm, as a small town ice cream place with the menu wall entirely covered in fliers showing all of the ice cream specialties they have... which is a lot. After many changes in decisions, I went with the ginger ice cream, which is exactly what one would expect; ice cream with tiny slices and shoots of ginger! They have other, more familiar choices on the menu as well. Keep in mind that this place will often be crowded; expect to wait in line. Also, depending on where you are coming from, it may be difficult to find this place (from the interstate highway it was for us). Located on Route 53 (Can't miss the place, has a cute pink truck parked outside of the place!) it can be packed. I happened to pull in when it wasn't, I think everyone was eating dinner! My favorite is their coffee toffee frozen yogurt - but there are so many selections available that your time spent in line can be used to decide which yummy treat to order. Some people go to the Dairy Queen in Marshfield, where one of their lazy employees once groaned at me for ordering one of their puny banana splits. Hey, sorry I ruined your afternoon, and that I interrupted your convo with another lazy employee. I promise I'll never do it again. Those in the know go to The Dairy Twist in Pembroke, where the quality, selection (soft serve and hard, and many specialties), serving sizes and customer service puts The Other Place to shame. The lines are often long, especially when the weather heats up, but the wait is well worth it. One of the old owners used to give my late Golden retriever a free soft serve vanilla cup every time I visited. The servings come in Kiddie, Small and Large. Dairy Twist's "Small" is bigger than The Other Place's "Large," so only order Dairy Twist's Large if you're really, REALLY craving ice cream. You'll get more than most people can finish. I kid you not. If I have one complaint, it's that their parking situation is a tiny lot that can be hazardous to negotiate, with cars fighting for spots while having to watch for frequent foot traffic. Not much they can do about it since the physical location is quite close to Route 53. Anyway, looking forward to them opening again. This man needs a malted shake. read more
