Visited Indique for the first time for their bottomless brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant look and feel is very authentic with 2 levels. The service is pretty good, servers were very kind and quick. Food - There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. Other bottomless brunches I've visited, the portions are usually very small for each plate as it's unlimited, but here the portions for almost everything is huge. Would recommend ordering one plate between 2 people in the beginning to try all the different items on the menu. If you begin with a plate for yourself, you may get full easily. The portions are pretty big. My favorite was the Cookie Butter Dosa! It was so delicious. Also the Appam Waffle w/ ice cream was really good. The plain Dosa and samosa chaat were also really good. Some improvements needed for main course items. The Papri chat needs to add some chole to it. It only had a ton of yogurt and some chutney. The vegetable shepherds pie, was not that tasty. It had a weird texture to it as well. Personally did not like it. Also the veg Kathi roll did not much flavor and was kinda bland. Would also recommend having various options for kulcha. I stumbled upon this place after unwittingly spending most of my day at the nearby Ethiopian embassy. My friend and I, famished and exhausted, defaulted to the Indian staples: butter chicken and lamb curry. food arrived within 15min- good start! Each entree came with a small bowl of white rice, extra rice bowls are $3. Scarfed a mouthful of my butter chicken, happy to fill up on something savory and hot. On the 2nd bite, all my senses were alerted to the "funk" chicken, rubbery & stale bites of chicken. I cut the pieces & examined and it was definitely funky: lined by a gray rubbery exterior. Once our server came by, I pointed quizzically at the chicken. without a word she left. We were floored. Shortly after, she reappeared and said the chicken was "dark meat" & practically vaulted over our table out of our sight. They offered me old chicken & took no responsibility when I pointed it out. OVERALL: solid all you can eat brunch place with a good variety of options. I love that you could opt out of boozy brunch if you wanted to! Flavors were pretty uniquely Indian but also had a touch of fusion with other cuisines. Great vegetarian options. I went here on a Saturday afternoon with a bunch of people and ordered everything on the menu at least once. I honestly don't remember what I ordered, but most things were delicious. There was a variety of chutney and dips that you could try, and everything was cooked well. The presentation was solid as well. Here is the main problem. This is not authentic Indian food. And this problem is not unique to this Indian restaurant. They add sugar to most, if not all, gravy dishes i.e. anything that is not dry. This is a move to satisfy the "American " (i.e. "white") palate, and neutralize the natural heat that the spices (which are there, and I can taste) give out. I ordered about 5 gravy dishes last night and every one of them had added sugar, an absolute no in any self-respecting Indian kitchen with the exception of Gujarati (Gujarat - State in India) dishes where they do add sugar to many of their savory dishes. This restaurant does not advertise its cuisine as Gujarati. Dven their Veg Biryani had a little added sugar. Their breads and Tandoori Chicken chops (which are both dry- and anything dry for that matter) are excellent. But the rest of it, I wouldn't touch them again. Sorry - unless you leave out the sugar and invite me back, my review stands. I am of South Indian heritage and I cook myself. And I just noticed that this restaurant advertises as South Indian, which makes sense - Dakshin means South in Hindi. Yelp doesn't allow me to post a new review, so this is my second edit. A special mention to the Chicken Chettinad (or Chettinad Chicken) dish. Chettinad is an area in the deep south of India in a district called Ramanathapuram (google it). The Chettiyars are a proud people with a talent for trade and commerce. The district has some tremendous houses with marble floors and huge burmese teak pillars ( the chettiyars made a lot of money in Burma, now Myanmar, in the teak and other businesses). Chettinad weather is extremely hot most of the year and their cuisine is the same, very hot with peppercorn and red chillies, the heroes of most gravy dishes. Chettinad Chicken is one of the cuisine's claim to fame and it is supposed to be flaming hot. Nothing else qualifies. Dakshin's Chettinad Chicken has added sugar and tastes mildly sweet. This would be called dessert anywhere in South India, and the chef who is responsible for this wouldn't have a job as it would be considered as insulting to the community. So first timers here, things to know: We ordered the paneer, chicken tikka masala, and okra. The curries of both the paneer and chicken tikka masala are quite similar. Each dish comes with a bowl of rice and the naan is quite sizable but would order more than one for sure. Staff is friendly, ambience is pretty but the food is typical. Here's the downside, DC is hip and trendy and Indique doesn't offer any unique styles to wow the diner. They celebrated a birthday super sweetly too. We've been living in the neighborhood for five years, and Indique is still one of the best restaurants in the Cleveland Park area. They are consistently excellent, which is more than I can say for the nearby popular Bindaas which has varied the several times we've been between very good and very poor. During the pandemic Indique made their menu shorter to ensure quality takeout, I assume. One time when we got takeout from them during the pandemic after being in lockdown I actually uttered the words, "I forgot food could taste this good." Standouts from the full menu for me are the all you can eat small plates brunch (with non standard cocktails as an option!), the tellicherry chicken (spicy but sooo good), and the Kerala shepherd pie. I've come here one time for brunch and I was not disappointed. We had called many times to push our reservation back, and they kindly agreed! The food and the drinks here are amazing. Since I'm Indian, the twists on all the foods and drinks just make it that much better. My favorite was the cookie butter dosa. Perhaps I was expecting more, perhaps the restaurant did not live up to my personal hype, or perhaps it was the fact I went here with a group of approximately 30 people. I went in a large group to Indique while I was visiting DC, and I wanted to like this place, I really did. The mimosa deal was spectacular, but there were so many stipulations that frankly, I was just tired by the end of my dining experience. To start, we came with a party where some people could drink and some people could not drink. The restaurant informed us that either all of us would have to order bottomless mimosas or none of us could. Sure, not a problem. However, we were told we could order drinks a la carte, and lo and behold, when it came to billing, we were each charged for bottomless! It really put a damper on my dining experience. Second off, the vegetarian dishes all came first. This ordinarily would have been fine, but many of my companions ate meat, and had to sit around rather aimlessly while the vegetarians ate. It took over two hours for the single beef dish to be prepared, and even then it was served in a bowl which was perhaps the size of my hand. Another letdown. Both of these really detracted from my dining experience, and while the food tasted great, I couldn't get these issues out of my mind. Such a shame, I was really excited to eat here. read more

The owner and chef came out to greet and make sure we enjoyed our experience. The entire staff is so polite and humble. Every dish was Instagram worthy presentation, tasty and fresh. We went with bottomless brunch options and all the cocktails were good. Rum lassi was exceptional and they did not skimp on the booze. I would highly recommend this place. Brunch review- Not impressed. I'm not a big fan of bottomless brunches in general, especially when they mandate all or nothing for the entire table. I joined a group of 10 or so for bottomless brunch a couple Sundays ago. They charge $25 for bottomless small plates, and $12 for a bottomless cocktail add-on. The group had decided just to do the food since some people weren't drinking. However, those who wanted to drink were now prohibited from enjoying the $12 add on special, and had to pay $9 per drink. The waiters said they would bring all the food out so we could try it and order more of what we liked, but we ended up only getting a few things, and lots of them. For example, they brought out way too many plates of Indian nachos for our group, which were not exciting and basically filled food. I think it would be best to peruse the menu first and tell the waiters what you want to avoid waste. Also, the service, while polite, was very slow. This was especially odd because it was not busy when we sat down. Overall, I'm not rushing to go back for brunch. There were a few stand out plates, but for a small plate experience I'm more likely to choose Bindass down the street, and for all you can eat, Bombay Club's weekend buffet brunch. read more

Wow. Wow doesn't really even do this place justice. The location is awesome. Easy enough to spot. The reservation process was so simple. Just a phone number is needed. The service was literally impeccable. The folks there were all smiles and greetings. Once seated, they eased any indecisiveness by providing clarity on each dish that we were considering. The manager then suggested some appetizers and drinks. When it came time for the main courses, they asked if they could clear the table and brought us out the most mouth watering and genuinely beautifully plated food. I haven't been that contented by a meal I've paid for in my life. The service and food were both spectacular. When Emancipator is playing on the radio at a calm ambient volume, I know I'm in the right place. Nahamean? Best first date of my life. DISAPPOINTED!!! That's how I would describe my experience at Indique. I remember celebrating my b'day at Indique about 6-7 years ago. At that time, the food was amazing, service impeccable, and we were overall satisfied. I decided to go there with my husband expecting the same kind of food quality, but we were highly disappointed. The manager at the reception area was very welcoming, but our waitress was anything but warm. She just didn't care, hardly checked up on us, and overall provided us with very bad service. Now to the food - we ordered the following: - Chaat Papri: STAY AWAY from this. They put way too much curd in this dish and the curd is very very thick. I felt like I was having yogurt instead of the delicious chaat this was supposed to be. - Bhel: Nothing great. - Mini Dosas: This was probably the best thing I had at this restaurant. Very flavorful and delectable. - Daal Makhani: nothing like the authentic daal that I have tasted at Tandoori Nights, Rasika etc. This is just the regular black daal and not the actual 'Daal Makhani'. - Baigan Bharta: was decent, nothing great. - Ceylon Paratha: AWFUL...I could smell/taste the butter on this roti, and it made me nauseous. I have had delicious Ceylon parathas before, and this was far from it. - Roti: was cold by the time it was brought out. - Gulab Jamun: They only serve one gulab jamun per order (weird). So order more if you are a bigger party. - Drinks: poorly made. My husband ordered the Dirty Martini and it was just not dirty enough. I had the Lychee juice, which was terrible. My favorite restaurant in the area is 'Rasika' (both for food and service). The prices for Indique are at par with Rasika, but the food and service doesn't even come close to Rasika's high standards. I dont think I will return to this place again. There are tons of other great Indian restaurants in the DC metro area, that remind me of the food served in India. When recently visiting some friends in DC, I was craving Indian, and they insisted on Indique. I can see why! Everything we ordered was very flavorful, not too greasy, and hit the spot. The lamb rogan josh, samosa chaat, chicken tikka makhani, and saag paneer, all classics, were great for sharing. We also finished up with mango rice pudding, which was refreshing. The restaurant is very nice two levels with the top over looking the bottom floor. Sit upstairs! For starters we ordered the mussels, veggie samosa and Achari chicken tacos. The mussels were AMAZING, the samosa was good and the chicken tacos we could have done without. Half of our mussels were closed so we told our waiter and he took care of it by bringing us another bowl. For entrees we ordered the Chicken Chettinad, Shrimp and Scallop Masala and the Malabar Shrimp Curry. (With garlic naan and paratha).We had to do it family style to sample eeeerrry thang. The main deduction is that it was really hot inside - they sat us in the bar area and I was sweating the entire time. We ordered a few things at a time at the suggestion of our waiter - which was smart BC some are tiny and some are quite filling. Amazing brunch! Unlimited small plates for $25 = come with a very empty stomach. Between a friend and I, we tried 9 dishes. My personal favorites were the vegetable biriyani, cauliflower pecorino kulcha, masala veggie burger, and cookie butter dosa. The samosa chaat, chicken tikka makhani, apam waffle sundae, and egg dosa were decent. The pickled pork belly was a bit too spicy for me and I'm not a fan of soggy rice buns. Service was quick, though it helped that we arrived early enough (11:15 AM) to miss the majority of the brunch crowd. I've been on a quest to find great flavorful Indian food in the area. Indique had really great reviews on yelp and I would love to try their food in person when things go back to "normal." Unfortunately, they have a pretty small menu for delivery that I was a little underwhelmed by. I tried the tikka masala curry and the samosa appetizer as well as the garlic naan. The tikka masala was a little 1 dimensional and lacked overall flavor. The curry had a good amount of heat and the portion size was good enough for leftovers the next day. The naan however was great and soft with good flavor and large enough to share between two people. The samosa appetizer was also good and basically a deconstructed samosa. The tamarind, chutney, and mint sauces are always my favorite things to eat with the samosas. Overall solid Indian food experience, but an overall small list of delivery options. read more

Incredible birthday dinner for my mom. Ordered the shrimp puchka shots as an app - such a delicious, flavorful bite of food followed by a fruity, yet not too sweet yogurt consistency "shot" (no alcohol). For our entrees, we split: paneer pasanda (yummmm), lamb short ribs (seriously, these are so tender, fell off the bone), and the Kerala fish curry (delicious). Side of rice and garlic naan. Everything was beautifully plater and the aromas were delightful. For dessert, we got a complimentary homemade mango cheesecake, accompanied by staff singing to my mom - truly adorable. The cheesecake is more of a mousse consistency than regular cheesecake and very flavorful! Not too sweet, which is usually my complaint about cheesecakes. Drinks - garam masala tonic with vodka (sweet, lots of flavor, not overwhelming or heavy), must have (as a non tequila fan, this was surprisingly great even for me). We had a great birthday brunch celebration at Indique! Their Saturday brunch deal is $25 per person for unlimited plates + $12 for bottomless mimosas and cocktails. You really can't beat that! We weren't entirely sure what to get but you literally can just keep ordering things for the table and someone will enjoy it! I happened to like everything that came out of that kitchen. I didn't pass on one thing!! The drinks are actually pretty strong for an unlimited deal. It's not like other places that water down the drinks to keep you full and sober. They were nice enough to allow us to bring a cake and candles and offered us plates without charging a cutting fee. Our waitress was so sweet and didn't make a fuss about our large party. I came here in a group of 4 for bottomless brunch and cocktails and had a great experience! The food was great - not breathtakingly amazing, but still very good. We ordered almost everything on the menu and my favorites included: - Chicken kathi roll - the wrap was warm, soft, and chewy; it reminded me of the texture of scallion pancakes. - Vegetable shepherd's pie - delicious saag topped with soft, almost-mashed potatoes, lentils, and paneer. Creative twist on saag paneer! - Pickled pork belly - braised pork was super tender and the sauce was amazing. It was served on a soft bun (similar to a chinese bao bun). - Cauliflower pecorino kulcha - this wasn't what I expected at all based on the menu description. It was actually really similar to a quesadilla, with a tortilla-like bread filled with a sharp pecorino cheese. The flavors were delicious and more savory than I expected. I didn't really taste or see the cauliflower in it, but I guess there were small pieces in the filling. - Cookie butter dosa - because speculoos cookie butter makes everything better The rum lassi was delicious - didn't taste much like alcohol but you could tell there was a decent amount of rum in there. The brunch punch was also really tasty and fruity. The freshly squeezed mimosa was really good too and wasn't watered down like it is at many bottomless brunch places. The service was great and we didn't have any issues placing additional orders throughout our meal. We came in around 12 on a Saturday and the restaurant was busy but not packed. I don't think walk-ins for brunch would be difficult to accommodate. Our favorite savory dishes were: samosa chaat, chicken tikka makhani, peppercorn beef Desserts: we tried appam waffle sundae and cookie butter dosa. The cookie butter dosa was delicious, hands down best dessert on menu. The masala veggie burger was mostly sweet potato and the salmon sliders were a little too fishy. Indique provides decent indian cuisine that will quench a desire for spice/flavors. The brunch is popular (and often very filling), but this review covers a recent dinner that included: Cauliflower pecorino kulcha Achari chicken paratha tacos Tandoori chicken chop Kerala fish curry Paratha Orange shreekandh My favorite was the fish curry as the fish tasted fresh and the curry had the right level of spiciness. It came with an additional coconut-brown rice 'sponge' (brown rice puttu) that I wasn't a fan of, not liking coconut. The other bowl of rice accompanying was plain. The achari chicken was a little too high on the spice level for me, and cauliflower kulcha was good but it is best described as a cauliflower-filled fried bread (not particularly light, once including the jammy sauce, nor healthy). It comes with 4 wedges, so best for sharing. Otherwise, the orange shreekandh is unique, like a protein yogurt, but sweeter, and it works with the diced pistachio (it was served in an orange but otherwise didn't have much orange flavor). read more

Mimosas and dosas indeed!!! I have been looking forward to this place for about a month now, and I have to say that I was not disappointed. I made a reservation over the phone for a group of 6 at 12:30 on a Saturday, and it was a seamless process. When the time came, I metroed there and was pleased that it was RIGHT outside of the metro station... literally just a few feet from the escalator. It was a rainy day, but I noticed they had a balcony with a little seating. If it wasn't raining, that would've been a great place to sit. I went inside around 12:05, and they allowed me to place my umbrella right next to the door so it wouldn't be a pain at my table. The first floor looks really small. Once you actually step in, you can see a little bar and bathrooms in a room to the right. Anyways, I told the staff who I was and what time my reservation was, and I still got seated right away! They led me upstairs, and while the first floor was barren, I could hear where everyone was. There was lots of chatter, and a lot more seating upstairs. I was seated at a 6-person table and, much to my surprise, they started taking drink orders. I thought they would wait until my original start time... they even offered food, but I decided to wait for my friends for that. When everyone eventually arrived, our server told us that it'd be best to order 1-2 dishes at a time. The bottomless food is $25, a great price for the wide variety of options they provide. The bottomless drinks are an extra $12, and given that one drink is $9, it just makes sense to go for that. We all excitedly browsed our menus and started ordering. I ordered the shepherd's pie and sweet potato chaat first. I love how the chaat was displayed when it arrived. They looked like ice cream scoops on the platter they were served on, and one of them was purple. Was it purple yam?? I was not expecting that at all, but it was delicious! I have never been to an Indian restaurant where they focus on such unique and aesthetically pleasing dishes. I am going to highlight just a few, but here is the full list of things I tried: duo of chaats, samosa chaat, peppercorn beef, chicken tikka makhani, cauliflower pecorino kulcha, masala veggie burger, salmon sliders, and the lamb dosa. The kulcha was essentially our naan to use to soak up all the delicious sauces from the various dishes, and it was great. the veggie burger had sweet potato in the middle and the buns were mini pancakes! It was GREAT! The salmon sliders were similar, but they were surprisingly spicy. We decided to get desserts as well, and we went with the appam waffle sundae and cookie butter dosa. I have never had a rice waffle before... it was almost completely white, and it was kind of chewy. Very interesting texture and taste... not my favorite, but if I had to pick something I enjoyed the least, it was that waffle. The ice cream with it, though, was toasted coconut gelato. It was sooooooooo good. The dosa was drizzled in cookie butter and powdered sugar, and strawberries and blueberries were scattered throughout the plate. It was a great way to end the brunch. I didn't forget about the drinks! Aside from the 4 drinks on the online brunch menu, they have a brunch punch as well! Because of the weather, they had a spiced bourbon punch. Between that, the rum lassi and the tamarind margarita... the rum lassi is my favorite, but just barely. The mango lassi with rum is just a genius idea.... but all of the drinks were wonderful. I need to return to taste everything that I didn't get to have. I have come to realize that Indian food fills me up very fast, and I was starting to slow down after my third plate. I'm glad I persevered, but I definitely left full and didn't eat for the rest of the day. I am honestly looking forward to returning and would recommend this place to anyone. Pros: Unlimited Indian Food. $25 Bucks. Cookie Butter Dosa. Con: None. On a more detailed note the food is amazing, I should know I even had my wedding catered from them. But this review is going to stick to the Brunch because damn my wedding food was too legit and I don't want to share my menu (#secrets). Couple items from Brunch that are stars on their own: Porky Belly on Idli Buns, Cookie Butter Dosa, Duo of Chats, Butter Chicken, Appam Waffle Sundae, Chicken Kebab Eggs Benedict and the Lamb Dosa. Also if you're vegetarian this place has tons of options because what Indian place wouldn't. Another pro is that this place is very low key, as in it's not overly busy and loud. I'd still categorize this spot as "hidden". Lastly, If I'm with a group of 4 or more usually we get about 2-4 plates per person so getting the unlimited brunch is "worth it" since the plates individually are about 8-15 bucks if ordered on their own. It is hard to find a good Indian brunch spot IN the city when you're a D.C. resident and transportation challenged {I'm basically saying there are definitely some solid spots in VA & MD, but who's got the time to make the trip across states?}. Indique solves this problem for us, without handing us a bill that makes us weep for our wallets {I'm looking at YOU, Rasika}. They have a $25 endless brunch option here. And I am not a big eater so buffets and endless brunch menus aren't ever really worth it for me. This one felt different. Why? First, most everything on their menu is zabiha (halal) so Indique has got us meat-loving Muslims covered. Second, tons of veggie options! So they even got the vegetarians among us eating happy. Third, the presentation is unbeatable (especially for an Indian restaurant). I've never had a more beautiful plate of samosa chaat or a dosa in the shape of a pyramid {or even a dosa with meat in it} until Indique blessed my palette. Hallelujah for India finding its contemporary aesthetic. I came here with a fairly large group ~ 8 people. And they brought us our food in a timely manner (and we ordered A LOT). I was able to try everything on the menu within an hour and a half (that felt like a record for me). And the staff was generally kind, pleasant, and efficient, especially given that it was our waiter's first day on the job. The thing about Indique that really made it top notch though~ unique dessert options. The. Cookie. Butter. Dosa. My mouth still waters at the thought of it. It may have been the birthplace of my love for cookie butter. Thank you Indique for introducing me to this relic of modern-day Nutella alternatives. Friends, come to Indique for brunch and come on an empty stomach. It is definitely worth trying everything on the menu. I recommend the Samosa Chaat, the Dosas, and their unique spin on Eggs Benedict with Seekh Kabob as my personal favorites. I also recommend bringing your parents here. read more

Food was old and tasteless, service was not good! I don't mind paying for good food and service, unsatisfied!
