Jyoti Indian Cuisine is by far one of the best traditional Indian cuisine restaurant in the DC area. As soon you walk in you are greeted with a vibrant atmosphere from the Indian/ modern music playing from the flat screen TV & surrounding speakers, to the painted murals + intricate trinkets hanging on the brick wall, & and warm hospitality from the employees. Our server Madeen was amicable & super helpful in explaining the items on the menu. We started off with the vegetable platter appetizer and included a trio of sauces; tamarind, mango chutney, green chutney. My personal favorite was the mango chutney, with a sweet, pungent spicy kick to it however all of them are rich in flavor. The drinks were great as well, would recommend getting the Alabama Slammer & Mai Tai. As our main course we ordered one of the most popular dishes recommended, the Tandoor Red Snapper along with the Lamb Seekh Kabob and Chicken Biriyani & choose mild as our preferred spice. We also had a side order of a refreshing yogurt sauce called Cucumber Raita & Garlic Naan. Not only was the presentation spotless, I kid you not every bite of those dishes did not disappoint. From the creaminess of the sauce served in the lamb, fish was grilled to perfection, & chicken biriyani was also tasty because the rice was blended with these aromatic spices that I am still trying to figure out! Flavors so complex yet it enriches your palette. I had the pleasure of meeting with the owner Shiva & I love how hands on he is within the restaurant & his employees. It truly was a lovely experience & definitely would come back to try their vegetarian options!

Amazing! Been going to Jyoti for 23 years. It is under new management and I wondered how it might have changed ... and it did ... it got even better! Paul (the owner) is amazing. The food does not shy away from flavor and spice and if you love it spicy they are more than happy to oblige! But it is not just hot but very tasty! Service is amazing and in this time of inflation the prices remind me of a bygone era where things were tasty, generously portioned, and beautifully affordable. Cannot recommend this place more! If you love Indian food this is the place in DC to go!

Butter chicken was very tasty and the chicken was soft and tender. I quite liked it and the garlic naan was pretty good too. However this was $21 which is way too expensive in my opinion for butter chicken. The service and ambiance is fine, nothing special. Not sure if I would go again unless prices were lowered.

This is a tasty restaurant located on a popular strip with several other restaurants. The staff was friendly the service was a bit slow considering there was only one other couple in the restaurant when we dinned. The food was flavorful and in a large portion. The texture and temperatures were good. I loved the citrus martini. I would like to return to try other options. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

A wonderful lunch special in AdMo! My friend and I enjoyed a quick lunch here during the week and loved the great lunch at an effective price point. The vegetarian and non vegetarian platters were both great! We started with the palak chaat which was a flavor explosion! Overall this was a super tasty meal.

My husband, a friend, and I were visiting DC around Christmas and needed somewhere to eat on Christmas Day. Luckily this spot was open! We all shared: - Bhel Puri - Palak Chaat - Aloo Mutter - Kadhai Paneer I always love Bhel Puri and this one didn't disappoint. The star of the meal was the Palak Chaat. It was so flavorful. The two curry dishes weren't quite as flavorful as I wanted them to be, but they were still good. I'm so happy that this spot was open for us on Christmas Day.

Jyoti has been serving Adams Morgan with delicious Indian food since 1998. I've mostly gotten take out from here but the ambiance is nice and quaint, and they have a small outdoor patio section as well. The food is always on point and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. They usually only have 1-2 servers so when it gets busy the food and drinks can take a bit longer but it is worth wait!

Loved it so much returned two days later--which is saying something, with all the excellent food in the area, we went for a repeat!

Yes, the palak chaat is the star of the show. Went to their West End location last night. Overall impression was? Meh. Service was fine. Food? I remembered better. Portions were smaller and the naan used to be better. The real disappointment was the simple, ubiquitous papadums. What we got weren't traditional papadums but these puffy things that looked and tasted like commerciallymproduced facsimiles that came out of a bag; more like chips. Ditto for the chutneys which weren't chutneys but more like jarred sauce. Not impressed. We left feeling like what happens to fabulous restaurants that then become franchises. The group that owns Rasika owns 9 other restaurants in the area. We will go back to the Penn Quarter location and try again.

Dining…read more When Ashok Bajaj opened Rasika in Penn Quarter in 2005, he didn't just open a restaurant--he revolutionized how the nation's capital views modern Indian cuisine. Two decades later, it remains an absolute powerhouse and a masterclass in culinary consistency. The Accolades Rasika's trophy case is legendary. Chef Vikram Sunderam secured a prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic, and the restaurant has consistently retained a top-tier spot on The Washington Post's 100 Very Best Restaurants list. It's the kind of place that effortlessly balances critical acclaim with a fiercely loyal local following, famously serving as a birthday hotspot for President Obama and a staple for D.C.'s culinary elite. The Menu While the iconic Palak Chaat gets plenty of well-deserved press, the true depth of the kitchen shines brightest in their classic entrees and customizable heat profiles. The Lamb Shank: A definitive triumph of slow-cooked execution. The meat is spectacularly tender, effortlessly falling away from the bone at the mere suggestion of a fork. Infused with a rich, aromatic blend of saffron and roasted coconut, the sauce achieves a profound depth of flavor that is both deeply comforting and complex. Saag Paneer (Malai Palak): Rasika's take on this classic elevates standard creamed spinach to an art form. The spinach retains a vibrant, fresh green character, expertly laced with garlic, onions, and green chilies. The paneer cubes are beautifully delicate, acting as the perfect velvety vehicle for the impeccably spiced greens. The House-Made Hot Sauce: For those who appreciate true heat, Rasika offers an exceptional house-made hot sauce that is cooked to order. Rather than just dumping standard chili oil on top, the kitchen freshly fires up this blend to your exact specifications, seamlessly integrating a fiery punch into your dishes without sacrificing an ounce of the underlying flavor profile. The Verdict Rasika isn't just a great Indian restaurant; it is one of the finest dining institutions in Washington, D.C. Whether you are a regular or a first-timer, the flawless execution of the lamb shank, the sophisticated balance of the saag paneer, and the tailored precision of their custom-cooked hot sauce make every meal feel like an event.

Certainly the best meal I've had in DC in years, which includes meals at Jont and P&P in the past several months. Unquestionably the best Indian meal I've had on Earth. The parade of dishes does not have a low point, which is incredible given the range of "mains" from chicken, to sable fish, to lamb taco, to pork cheek. Each dish shows clear French influence - we had most of the five sauces at least once - but with clear, vibrant warmth from Indian spices. Even at places like Eleven Madison and Le Bernardin, there's usually a miss or two. Not last night. Which brings me to the question: why not two Stars? Three? I think some of the answer comes back to ambiance and service. The chef's tasting does not have a dedicated space, flow, or timing. The rhythm of it can be somewhat offbeat with the constant arrival of over-the-top cocktails at the tables around you. And also, it has honestly felt like many of the waitstaff were "in training" on each of our recent visits. I know staff turnover is real and constant, and the staff last night were all perfectly kind, but I think there's a level of consistent experience - "worth a detour" - that has to elevate even perfect food beyond itself to garner the higher levels. Anyway, never mind that. And don't change a thing about the food or presentations. World class.

The flavors were phenomenal, especially on the seafood courses. My favorite course was the black cod fish with scallop foam - just divine. The meal fused Latin American and Indian flavors beautifully. While the food was out of this world, service and ambiance did not meet the standards of a Michelin starred restaurant. The dining space lacked creativity in its decor; it felt quite sterile. Service was fast and attentive but lacked the personal touch I expected. The acoustics in the restaurant are not good; we could barely hear the servers' explanation of the courses.
