Tried this spot out over some of my older favorites nearby. The food was good not great, with smaller portions than average for this type of food. I have a lot of favorite Indian spots and for the price and weird 'service' of this one.. it's a no for me on coming back. This was overpriced Indian food, served in to-go containers with Chipotle skimpy serving sizes you can't change or customize. So its missing the only redeemable factors of that style of restaurant. Y'all it was $20 for my veggie "platter". It's half two types of BEANS+ a veggie and some rice. MINI ROTI SEPARATE $2 (as disappointing as when tortilla chips+ salsa are a paid for thing, and not just on the table) Vegetarian is typically the cheapest option on the menu considering sourcing especially compared to meat. Yet the veggie options were no better than my attempt of Indian food at home, as a non-indian person lol. My family liked their entrees okay, butter chicken -$19, and lamb curry-$23 being the best option besides the 2pc Paneer Pakora-$8 appetizer. Gotta go up to grab your utensils or a lid which is fine, with luke warm water being the only self serve option here. So yay $4 regular drinks. I was unimpressed by their QR code 'service' only though and it stuck out to me. You order your food through a QR like many restaurants do, they bring you the food and then never come back to your table again. Not even if you place another order through the QR, we had to go find someone up front and see what was up. Could not order from the Bar menu QR either. On a Wednesday not a weekend thats pretty wild? I would not call any of it service. This form of ordering was set up with a good idea, and executed poorly. I know we have the money to go out to eat and that its a privilege to get to enjoy that- so damn it I want the money to be well spent!!! I walked inside this establishment and the aroma from the food smells incredibly good. I ordered the indigo special which consist of chicken, garlic ,ginger, chick peas and some other spices which was delicious. At first I thought I need more chicken, but I actually had enough to eat now and save for later. This restaurant is off K st NE in the NOMA area. The staff seemed pretty nice. I was finally in the mood for Indian food and was able to try award winning restaurant, Indigo. I'd heard people recommend it since I moved to DC and it's right in my neck of the woods. I called in to place the order and it was ready in about 15-20 minutes. I paid $50 for 2 butter chicken plates here everything that I loved and didn't love as much, Things I loved: + chickpea side was really delicious + seems like they treat their staff well + lots of free street parking midday + food was made in a timely manner and the to go packaging was great Things I didn't love as much: + I thought the butter chicken was just ok .. their spicy level was actually spicy lol. It kind of made my stomach hurt how spicy it was. There's another place in DC that I personally like better and the portion is a bit bigger + they don't give you the side of bread with your order so I purchased their roti on the side. This restaurant is located on the outskirts of downtown, in a residential area. There is limited street parking available. I ended up double parking and running in and getting my order. The place is decent sized and has a take out area, a dining area with a full bar and a patio area. As I mentioned, I got my food togo. I had placed an online order with about a group of 10 people from work. Before even eating our food, we disappointed. Some orders were wrong, they had missed telling us to pick up a drink that we had ordered and they did not include any utensils. I ordered the Coconut Chicken Curry meal with a Mango Tango Drink. My food tasted great, after i found a fork. It was flavorful with a little kick, just how I like it. The portion was not very big though, especially considering how much the food cost. My rating is based on the whole experience of me and my group. If it were based on the food alone, it would be a solid 4 star rating. If I were in the mood for Indian food and had the opportunity, I would definitely give this place another try though. read more

My son and I celebrated his birthday at Indigo during our stay in Washington DC. We seated ourselves per the notice. There were plenty of seating options both indoors and outside (albeit with plastic walls/windows) The menu has to be scanned and you select and pay via the app on your phone. Straightforward and easy enough. They automatically add a service charge so no need to tip presumably. But there was no server to tip anyway so a moot point. The food was brought out and simply left on a tray on the table. Everything was authentic, hot, delicious and perfectly seasoned. We helped ourselves to lids for our leftovers which simply snapped onto the serving containers. Definitely recommend! read more

Came here after the Washington Spirit playoff game and had a good time. It can be a little confusing when it comes to ordering. Tables have QR codes to order but my friends and I had issues doing so. You are more than capable, we discovered, to go inside and order at the counter. This was much easier to do. For food, I ordered the butter chicken at the highest spice. It definitely packs a punch as I was teary eyed and sniffling the whole time I ate it. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the spices, while hot, were tasty. Indigo is one of my favorite Indian spots. They're only open in the evenings, so you won't be able to visit them for a lunch trip. They're only open have outdoor seating that's closed in so you don't have to worry about swatting mosquitoes the entire time. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and everyone always seems to be enjoying their time there. The food is great. Everything I've tried from the saag, to the lamb jogan rosh is so delicious! Absolutely loved the food here! It's a patio style setup for seating which is great when it's not 95 degrees outside. They offer free water machines in several spots. Food is tasty and well made. Rice is fluffy! The chickpeas on the side isn't a lot, though. I chose the paradise platter with paneer makhani and baingan bharta. The baingan had a lot more tomatoes in it than I like, but their recipe is enjoyable. Service was quick. Ambiance was fine during the day, but I'm sure it's more lively at night. Only outside seating - no heaters from what I could tell. Good for larger parties, too! The only con is that Indigo has gotten more expensive for what it is, and used to give much larger portions! There is no parking lot, but I can usually find a spot relatively close by on the street. There is a customer bathroom. The seating is entirely outside under a structure (not poden roof) and there are heaters in the winter that suffice just fine. Would highly recommend this local favorite. read more

This fast paced, outdoor cafe/ streetside bar-style restaurant has good tasting Indian food at a slightly above average DC price (in 2024-25). They don't have servers, per se, as it's mostly cafe self serve style. Although the food was tasty, I found portion size questionable and lacking given how bare bones their operation is (they basically just have 'expediters,' bussers, and a bartender), and all in disposable / to go containers. So if you appreciate real value-per-cost, I can't recommend it, but if you're looking for a lively tented beer garden vibe that also serves tasty Indian food, come here and bring friends! Until they serve more family style portions, lower prices, or provide full table service and dishware, Indigo will likely remain a neighborhood hang out, not a city-wide destination... We ordered the following: Chicken Tikka Meal, Lamb Curry Meal, Spicy Saag, Channa Masala, Daal Tadka Vegan, Paalak Paneer, extra Rice, Plain Roti, Garlic Roti, Masala Parantha, Veggie Samosa, and washed it down with a Mango Lassi. Okay, this seems like a lot of food for just three people; 1 additional one came later, but it's always better to have more than not enough. The dishes were a perfect balance of spice, with just the right amount of heat where needed. Each dish was seasoned to perfection, leaving me full and satisfied after sampling a bit of everything. It's my understanding that they have a lively outdoor area where you can enjoy live music. I'll have to come back for that. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Meal and it was tasty, but the Nepalese food at home was even better flavorwise. The butter chicken was creamy and filling. Flavors at Himalayan Range are still better for that as well. The service was okay, mostly self-serve. I didn't give it 5 stars because everything was disposable. The mango lassi was good, a little too rich for my taste. This just confirms that I'm spoiled at home with our authentic Nepalese cuisine. It was family friendly; lots of children around. Bit more expensive than I was expecting so I limited myself to the chicken indiroll with a side of okra. The indiroll was very flavorful but not quite what I was expecting so I'd try something else next time. The okra was incredible and I'll definitely be back for that alone if nothing else. I like the food so much at Indigo that I never noticed the dining area is only outside--there's no "inside" possible. Recently, I was invited to a family celebration here, so, of course, jumped at it. But wait--when arriving--it finally registered with me that our merrymaking would be outside. And it's winter now. I said to myself: "this is gonna be uncomfortable". Well, fear not, Indigo is ready. They've got portable electric heaters placed strategically about the space and customer's orders are brought out hot and steaming. I actually enjoyed myself in the nippy winter weather we're having in the DMV as I stayed pleasantly warm. The heaters carried the evening. The lamb curry is still killer as is the chicken masala. These 2 enduring Indian dishes are consistently prepared the same, and reliable. I always get a big hunk of bread to go along with the combo meal, which is an extra charge. I favor any of the prantha selections however there are others. A large Taj Mahal beer is the perfect complement. The portions are generous, always have leftovers to take home. read more

My friend and I stopped by this past Monday for dinner since it's one of her go-tos in the area. Majority of the seating is outside, but they have a tent that covers the seating area and lots of heaters. The ordering process is done online and so is the payment method (so you pay before the food is ordered and they will bring it out to you). The restaurant was pretty lively when we went with good vibes. CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA MEAL - 19 A bit pricy, but that's DC for ya. The portion is pretty big -- a 12 oz. cup of chicken tikka masala (lots of chicken, tomatoes and curry -- yum) along with a bed of basmati rice topped with raw spinach (no cilantro for me) and chickpeas. The chickpeas were super flavorful and you could eat all of your rice with just the chickpeas and spinach, to be honest. The chicken tikka masala was good (nothing extraordinary) but I found the sauce a bit watery (maybe that's how it should be, but the rice didn't soak it up very well). I would probably try a different entree next time. PALAK PANEER (8 OZ) - 9 The palak paneer was so garlicky and a good amount of paneer in it, which were soft and enjoyable. I loved how garlicky it was!! The only issue is that it was on the saltier side, so I had to eat a lot of rice to even it out. Overall, the texture was very smooth and creamy and perfect MANGO LASSI - 5 Again, nothing out of ordinary but mango lassi is always good and enjoyable. We enjoyed one as a "dessert" after our meal since we wanted something sweet to balance out the savory dinner we had. The only thing I'm not fond of is a $4 tiny bottle of Diet Coke. And I'm especially not fond of a tiny diet coke served in a glass bottle. The service was very fast and the staff were ultra helpful. The dining area is outdoor inside a plastic enclosed porch. But despite it being 35° outside, the space was very well heated so it was comfortable. Excellent homey Indian restaurant bursting with flavor! I ordered a feast - Saag Paneer, Dhal Makhani, Malai Kofta, Samosa, Roti, and Mango Lassi. Everything was on point and the curries weren't greasy or too spicy. The Saag Paneer was my favorite followed by the creamy Dhal Makhani was tasty while the Malai Kofta had a spicy kick. The stretchy handmade Roti was delicious! I got 2 samosa for the price of one! While the $18 Vegetarian Paradise was a fun way to sample a couple of dishes, I wasn't a fan of the Channa Masala or the rice. I would just stick to a side order of curry for $7. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and appreciate the small portions. The corner restaurant has lots of shaded seating with picnic tables and a back area, as well as a bar to order cocktails. You can order outside using a QR code to go inside. Note the area around the restaurant is a bit shady and do not recommend walking through the railroad underpass - go up/down 3rd street, it's much safer. The spicy masala chicken was amazing, so tender and with perfect flavor. The spice was excellent and the portion size was incredibly generous. Despite being delivery the food arrived without a drop spilled, it was all packed with care. Delicious! What a cool little neighborhood spot. I love that it's seat yourself and order via a QR code. I wish you could do alcohol through the QR as well but you have to go to the bar (which makes sense). Food came out a little slow BUT it was hot as heck and very fresh tasting. We got the chicken sliders, butter chicken (but made it spicy and sheesh was it SPICY) and the spicy chicken masala. All were 10/10.
