Pizzeria dal Presidente is a Neapolitan pizzeria that opened in Naples, Italy in 2001. It was founded by pizzaiolo Ernesto Cacialli. The pizza maker began learning the Neapolitan culinary arts when he was just six years old. By age 13, Cacialli was a baker's apprentice and he was soon making dough balls for pizza. At age 18, he began working as a pizzaiolo at the popular Neapolitan pizzeria Di Matteo. Cacialli would continue to work at Di Matteo for decades. In 1994, U.S. President Bill Clinton was in Naples for the G7 Summit. Clinton (a huge fan of good pizza) stopped in at Pizzeria Di Matteo with his entourage of secret servicemen, and Cacialli personally prepared the pizza. The President happily gobbled down his delicious pizza, and Cacialli was soon known as 'Pizzaiolo dal Presidente' (Pizza maker of the President) around the neighborhood. In 2001, Cacialli left Pizzeria Di Matteo and opened his own pizzeria down the street. Of course he had to name his restaurant 'Pizzeria dal Presidente'. Over the years, Cacialli traveled around the world training countless others on the art of Neapolitan pizza-making. Cacialli passed away in 2009 at the age of 60. Today, the head pizzaiolo at Dal Presidente is Antonio Maccarone. My wife and I visited Pizzeria Dal Presidente on our honeymoon in July 2018. We had just eaten some pies at Pizzeria Di Matteo and then headed down the street to Dal Presidente to taste their pizza and make comparisons. The place smelled great and the staff were very friendly! We decided to order and share a Margherita with fresh Buffalo Mozzarella. With the intense heat from the wood-fired oven, the pizza was ready in no time. Excellent sauce, excellent crust and excellent cheese! Passed by this place after visiting Di Matteo, and was intrigued by their proclamation of president pizza. As we just had a lot for breakfast, we just got a Margarita to go. The pizza was folded and made to go, and when you bite into it, the crust was really crispy and the topping was really good but they weren't as amazing as Di Matteo. If I could give them zero stars I would!!! Rude, rude, rude wait staff. So rude to my family and I. Ordered a caprese salad and you would have thought I asked them for gold asking for balsamic to go with it. Took 10 minutes just to get someone to acknowledge me, WHEN THEY MADE EYE CONTACT AND CONTINUED TO WALK BY ME, TO GP SMOKE CIGARETTES ACROSS THE STREET. Pizza was fine. Not the best in Naples. But nice. Fried pizza I had better at another place, No so big and over fried. This one was very soggy in the middle and they gave us the wrong one and when we asked they shrugged their shoulders and walked away. The best part of this story is THEY TRIED TO SCAM ME SAYING " YOU GAVE ME A FAKE BILL!!! " I paid with a crisp new 100 euro because that's what you get at money exchange place and the waiter walks out and waves a nasty old bill in my face and says I gave him a fake. Oh hellllo, no!!! We had researched places in Naples to try for an original pizza and this was one of them. The place looks legit from the outside as it has a small front and you pass multiple traditional ovens. However, my wife and I like to do what we call a "food crawl" to really get a good feeling of the city or region. This usually requires us to order one dish to split at 3-4+ restaurants. Dal Presidente is definitely not friendly to the "crawl" model, as our pizza was €4.50 and our seating charge was also €4.50. The pricing would be forgivable if there was decent service, but our waiter(s) were obviously put off since we were interrupting their watching of the football match. So the service was pretty terrible, especially considering the high table charge this place has. I would be extremely unlikely to leave a 100% tip, but this was the equivalent of our charges. Even if I could have tipped like we do in the US, it would have been pretty low as service was laughable. The pizza itself was pretty decent. The sauce was sweeter than I had expected, but everything tasted super fresh. I personally wouldn't order it again, but I'm glad I tasted on of the oldest traditional pizzas in the world. The dough was perfect and the pizza was well done, just not for me. One thing that really stands out is that the owner is really a self absorbed person. Instead of the great history this place has there are pictures of this guy plastered on every surface with so many celebrities of different professions. Come on, if I want to see some self absorbed idiots I can just watch some US reality TV, I don't want to see it when I eat. Maybe a couple pictures here and there would be cool, but it almost overwhelms you when you come in. If you're looking to have a pretty original/authentic pizza to yourself then it is probably worth a look. However, I would definitely not come back here, and if I had known what this place was like I would have walked right on by. read more

When I was in Napoli, I asked the locals which was their best pizza in town. The unanimous answer was Il Pizzaiolo del Presidente! My family and I was coming off of a day trip to Capri, and headed directly to the restaurant via cab. We were aware that the area was not safe to walk around even during the day time. It's not like the American ghetto, but it's not safe in a sense that a moped will speed by you and grab your purse or snag your Rolex. I've heard that on an average day on Via Tribunali, 6 Rolexes are snatched! Ernesto Cacialli, a native Neapolitan, has won national and international awards for his pizza making abilities. I forget what the restaurant was called before the current name, but they changed the name to "Il Pizzaiolo del Presidente" after Bill Clinton has visited his famous pizzeria and ate there. Simply the best pizza I've ever eaten in my life!! If you're a typical American who have never tasted true Neapolitan pizza, you probably won't like it. This place is for people who have eaten and appreciate good Italian pizza. The Italians eat their pizza with fork and knife or you can use your hand, but they are so soft you must roll it up if using your hand. They put extra drizzle of olive oil at the end when the pizza comes out of their 1000 degree brick oven. So the consistency can be perceived as "wet." Americans are used to eating the pizza that are dryer. They don't like drippy and wet pizzas. But trust me. It is the most delicious pizza ever!! The dough is just the right amount of chewy, moist in the middle and crispy on the crust. Try their Vesuvio which's a fried pizza. Imagine a calzone but it's not a half moon shape, it's a whole pizza round shape. Filled with meat and gooey cheese, crispy on the outside from being fried, and not too oily, this incredible hot volcano of a pizza is a MUST try. As I was pulling out my money to pay, she started speaking in Italian to the group behind me using what sounded a lot like unkind words. We ended up here because Di Matteo and Sorbillo were already closed for lunch. Pizza was decent, but the whole experience was awful. We sat down at 2:50 pm and didn't leave the restaurant till 4:10 pm. We never got a menu (which is fine since we wanted to order right away), waiters never showed up unless called multiple times, and they forgot to put our order in, so we didn't get our pizzas until 40 minutes after. I am an Italian expat in the US, so I get it. Customer service is never as good as in NYC. BUT on top of that, we spent all that time in their super crowded basement, where the manager didn't even care to check our green pass (proof of vaccination or negative test) and openly said he couldn't care less about COVID protocols. Décor is pretty lame with a faux cave feel and crappy one-step-up-from-plastic wooden chairs - but who cares, it's all about the food, right? I was strongly disappointed that they only sold GERMAN BEER??? here (minus). Not a single beautiful green bottle of Peroni/Nastro Azzuro. Pizza Margherita: interestingly sweet tomato sauce (plus), lumpy mozzarella (minus), heavier dough (minus). Good flavor though. All in, the cost was twice as much as Da Michele (minus) but still cheap. Conclusion: go to Da Michele instead and drink beer while you wait in line.... read more

When I came to eat here I didn't know it was "world famous" and featured in guide books. I was spending my summer of 2012 with my friend and his family who are from Naples. They didn't recommend me any particular place, but when I told them I went there they thought I researched the place. After telling them no, I didn't they were surprised and quite happy that I discovered this place on my own. They tell me that the locals like it there, too. I started chatting with the waiter using my broken Italian and his simple English and we got along quite well. I can't wait to get back to Napoli again next year try a different pizza. By the way, I'm totally lactose intolerant, and although I was worried about the effects, I didn't suffer at all like I would have with pizze from the USA. Perhaps the cheese was better. If you come here not knowing that it's been frequented by celebrities, you certainly will be the time you leave. The cheesiest ambience I've ever seen (even surpassing the dairy aisle in a Swiss supermarket). Celebrity photos adorn the walls and even the table mats. They even had a photo of the owner with some hockey player followed by photos of the same hockey player next to other celebrities including Reagan. I mean, a second degree of separation, really? Pizza is decent, the wine is advised against. They repack the wine bottles and we were served a bottle plastered with gold sparkles (not making this up!) which inevitably made their way into our glasses (which inexplicably resembled whiskey tumblers). Service, like all the pizzerias in this neighbourhood, is terrible. Overall it's alright for a classic pizza in Naples if you can avoid looking at the walls and the table mats. The crust is light, not the best I've had, but is crunchy and holds together quite well. The sauce however, is exquisite, very fresh and some of the best I've had in napoli. I had a Margherita with mozzarella di bufala which surely did not disappoint. Where this place fell short, was the service. The server himself was amazing, incredibly friendly (he even sang to us). However, it took over forty minutes to get our pizza, where in other places, pizzas come out in as little as 5 minutes. If you find yourself in Napoli and the line at sorbillo or Michele is too long. Tourists/Non-italian speakers STAY AWAY! Went in for €5 pizza, €1.50 arancini and €7 beer. Waiter tricked us in to ordering mozerella (€7) which was ok as it was delicious. Then when we asked for bill he said €30. We looked confused and he brought over a receipt. The receipt clearly stated TOTAL €22.50. So a €2 service charge... pretty standard for Italy. But then at the bottom of the receipt a mystery €11 charge. We paid that... and he then had the gall to ask for a tip! A cheap, decent meal quickly became very expensive, confusing and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Went to Italy for two weeks. Was in Naples on 6/13/18 and decided to take a walk from the train station and found Del Presidente. It was my first and only Napoli pizza. Place was not busy at about 1pm. Sat right down and ordered our pizzas. My wife ordered one and I ordered one. Pizza was good and service was fast. Pizzas came out in about 10 minutes or so. Only downside was the service. It wasn't bad but the waitor, Lilo, specifically asked for a tip and verbally told us the bill which is illegal in Italy. They have to provide a receipt. We were in a rush and didn't care but the price seemed a little high. After two weeks all throughout Italy this was the only place where the waitor specifically asked for a tip. It was strange. Apparently the story goes the Pizza maker here worked at Di Matteo when Clinton came in during a Summit stop. He loved the pizza and the pizza maker decided to leave Di Matteo and open up his own shop, and named it after Clinton. This was fine pizza but I think you have better options in Naples. we tried the pizza here after da michele. here you have more choices of pizza. quality was very good. typical neapolitan style pizza nearly good as at da michele. you should try it out for sure. the walls inside are full of pictures, awards etc. therservice was good and friendly too. 30.03.2013. edit: Habve to reduce to 4* as the service was extremly slow yesterday. All italian were served before us evrn if they came 15minutes later. For order it took about 15-20minutes. 1hour toget two pizzas which take 2minutes in the oven!! Sorry guys. If you're looking for a nice outdoor sit-down place in the historic section of Naples, this will do, but don't expect 5-star service or out of the world food. Here the boys at the street level told me to go downstairs and there the young girl told me to go upstairs.... Then they allowed me to sit down. We had the pepperoni which is not to be confused with an American "pepperoni" pizza, but if you like peppers (of the bell pepper variety) it's a nice choice. This pizzeria's claim to fame is that different dignitaries from around the world have eaten here. The pizza is good and there are several photos of famous world leaders and athletes on the wall.
