Love Dalai Java, it's usually a special treat for me because it can be a little pricey and finding parking on main street for a coffee is a little more of a hassle than going to Starbucks or Dunkin. The drinks are really good, I usually get a chocolate chip muffin too because they are delicious. It's a really cool space, it feels and looks like something you'd find in San Francisco. The employees are super cool and friendly. It's a great place to chill or study and the volume in Dalai Java is very quiet which makes for a relaxing space. Wonderful service! We stopped by on the way back home from Rochester back to Virginia. We love finding local coffee shops that have their own roasts. I had the cold brew which was great and my husband and brother both got americanos. Took a bag a bean back home with us. The shop itself is spacious and a perfect quiet hangout spot. I've been here a few times now, and only had their iced coffee, but judging based on the quality of that iced coffee (excellent, in case you were wondering), I'm sure the other coffee drinks are up to par. The place itself is small, with just two indoor tables and one outdoors, and the owner is usually manning the counter. read more

The only real coffee shop in Canandaigua, in my opinion. Awesome selection of quality drinks. I was boring and only got a plain coffee, but will definitely go back and try something a little more interesting. Came here with a friend to chat and loved the atmosphere. Staff was friendly and accommodating. As someone who is only in CA every few months, this is the place for me to be if I'm meeting up with an old friend. Nice music. Can't wait until it's warm out and I can enjoy the real cafe experience here. I can speak for the food, but my friend was a big fan of her bagel. Will definitely return. The Dalai Java became a very popular place for coffee due to the quality of the roasting and the wonderful, of cramped, ambiance. The decision was made to move to roughly 5 times the space and offer the same excellent coffee in a much improved setting. From the handmade coffee bar to the pine wood floors, the shop offers elbow and leg room galore as well as the great coffee of yore. And excellent lighting. And more to come. In the future, toasted English Muffin bread from Larry of RnS! The new space is fantastic, warm, immediately beckoning and comfortable for reading or talking and computing. By the way, the sound system is brilliant, with speakers attached to the floor joists giving a surround sound effect that you can actually feel. What a wonderful evolution. Soups may be coming soon! I had the most wonderful experience with this small coffee shop, the atmosphere was charming and friendly, I was in the area with a friend to run an errand and she said we have to coffee here that it was amazing. So we did! The selection was extensive and the staff warm and informative, making my choice easy for me and I was not disappointed! I ordered their cold brew which was fabulous, one of the best cold brews I have had. I also ordered a grilled cheese with bacon that was yummy. I was so impressed with the coffe and staff, I bought bourbon barrel aged coffee beans to take home. The beans are so good am planning on buying more online. It's hard to find such a jewel these days and the Dalai Java is just that. read more

Since moving to town about a month ago I've been here 1-2x a week! What can I say, I LOVE my coffee especially when it comes from cute little shops. I've had a few different blends (plain black for me) and loved them. The iced coffee packs a punch. I also splurged and ordered an iced almond milk latte with their house almond joy syrup. Okay, I know that toast is what's stopping millennials from buying houses and motor boats, but trust me on this. Take your next $5 bill down to Dalai Java for some Rise and Shine English muffin toast topped with honey and cinnamon. Yeah, you could make it at home but it won't be even close. And the coffee. They have something for everyone, for the hot bean water drinkers to the folks who like dessert as their coffee. The atmosphere is friendly and they care about what they're putting out for customers. I'm so glad they've moved in on Main St in a decent sized location. It's comfortable and easy to access. Next time you need a caffeine fix, stop in here. You won't be disappointed. read more

The Dalai is more than just coffee. This place is a small get away in the town of Canandaigua. The owner roasts the beans once or twice a week and they are excellent. If you are lucky enough to be there during this process, you will witness the passion she has for her coffees. The staff are quite pleasant and seem to love what they do. Watching the owner and her baristas interact is wonderful. She is motivating and patient. She cares. The Dalai supports as much local as it can. It is also a hub for free thinking. This place loves everyone and all are welcome. A definite gem in Canandaigua. I haven't had one thing at this place that didn't taste amazing. read more

Very cute cafe in the small town of Canandaigua. They have a lot of specialty lattes and great flavor shots you can add for an additional $.50, but I went with a regular latte when I went, and was pleased. The guy who was working told me to try it and make sure it was made perfect before I paid, which is not the kind of service you receive everywhere. Not a lot of seating, so this is not a great cafe to hang out at, but is nice if you're just looking to grab something to go. I love Starbucks coffee, but I will definitely go again to support this great local business. read more

The positives: nicely appointed space with a cool vibe; friendly staff; and a good assortment of drink and snack options. The negatives though, should give puase if you like to be productive at a coffee shop as some people do. That friendly staff carried on full conversations at loud levels the entire three hours we were there. There is a cool couch that had someone laying on it the entire time, watching Netflix on his phone without headphones. Staff seemed to know him and went over several times - not to politely ask to be considerate of other guests - but to chat about what he was watching. Ultimately, this is not a place that values the personal space of others - that can be a great thing when people run into friends or chat with the friendly staff. But it also creates a cacophany of sound that makes your own conversation or work challenging. This was my first visit so l'll give it another shot but not a good first look. read more

This place (coffee wise) just isn't the same, the past three times I've went my vanilla chia latte has been absolutely awful. Used to be the best place to get one. I would have let them know in person but I just feel like it's not my job to let them know how to do theirs. The gentleman who used to be there a lot who made them did them perfectly. Sadly I never see him anymore. As a resident of Canandaigua, I frequently come to the Dali Java as a throughly enjoy their coffee, and their new location is a great place to come do work. Sometimes the staff is a bet loud however, I really do enjoy the new location and the cafe vibes that I experience here. read more

Coffee is great, small place, we sat for awhile waiting to go on the Canandaigua food tour. First it's all about the coffee here and the real reason to go! But we got both the coffee and the drama lol! The owner here is very nice, however other shop owners nearby come into her shop with all types of dramatic stories.
