But we were staying in a cabin along the Virginia Creeper Trail, and walking the trail into town for a traditional Southern breakfast sounded like the more authentic mountain-town experience. I'm so glad we did. The portions were huge, the prices were incredibly reasonable, and everything we tried was good. My husband ordered "The Hog"--2 eggs, country potatoes, sausage, bacon and pork loin. The sausage was his favorite of the meats. I had the Mt. Rogers with 3 eggs, hash brown casserole, and upgraded to the 8-oz sirloin. Both meals came with toast or a biscuit, grits, and peppered sausage gravy. They were out of biscuits, so we had white and sourdough toast instead, and it was all good. The food was hearty, traditional, and exactly what I was craving. But what really made the experience was the Southern hospitality. The young woman serving and the host were both so kind and cheerful. Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't the trendy places--they're the local spots where you walk in hungry, leave completely stuffed, and feel genuinely welcomed. What a wonderful meal we had here! The servers were so friendly and efficient! Hubby had the white fish with cabbage, collards, hush puppies and tots for $16-he ate every last bite! It was tasty. Nice casual place to grab something to eat after cycling the VA Creeper Trail. I was pleasantly surprised to see some healthy-ish menu items- grilled chicken and grilled shrimp with three sides of veggies. The shrimp was heavily seasoned and the grilled cabbage was oily, but the grilled chicken and other bean sides were good. Service was prompt and friendly. Prices were reasonable. read more

Grilled cheese burger and the shaved ham and cheese sandwich were good. The mashed potatoes and gravy would have been decent if it was warm but for some reason they came out cold. Everything else came out hot. The restaurant has a decent variety on the menu. I was a little bummed that they were out of tater tots but the fries were quite tasty and not at all overly greasy. The service by Cadee was FANTASTIC. For two people to eat with coke drinks, our bill was $30.00. So like all places right now, it's a little costly but comparable in price to most restaurants. My husband and I had dinner here this evening. I ordered Alaskan Whitefish, cabbage, pinto beans and hush puppies. The fish had an amazing coating, it was very flavorful, but not overwhelming, the fish was flaky, and cooked to perfection. I Loved the hush puppies. My husband ordered meat loaf, cabbage, pinto beans, and collard greens. He really enjoyed his meat loaf, and collard greens, we both liked our cabbage. This was honestly the best meal I've had out in a while. We will definitely be eating here again while we are in town. I wish I had taken pictures. read more

Demarcus Diner is a dependable spot, and we've stopped here twice after riding the Virginia Creeper Trail. Food was terrible my rodeo burger was over cooked my fries were burned and over seasoned to hide the burned taste my wife's fish was burned and tater tots were burned as well the my daughter got sick from the chicken fingers being raw and pasty her corn was bland the bathroom was inaccessible due to lack of space the waitress was nice but the kitchen crew was vulgar and didn't change gloves after handling all different foods store smelled bad its obvious the only reason the place is popular is location and lack of real competition in the small town wouldn't recommend to any family. I want to give this a five star but it's hard to compare a diner to more fine dining. But for a diner it's a solid 5-stars for the food quality and the servers! I had a burger that was so fantastic i snarfed it down in less than five minutes. Washed down with a beer. It may have been almost 10-am, but who's counting! Not much in town after the tourists leave. Damascus Diner could just serve ... food ... because they're just about the only game in town. But nope! They serve FOOD. YUMMY food. We came here twice on different trips. First time, It was fine. Only the grilled cabage side really shone, though the pork tenderloin was pretty dang good. Meatloaf was fine, as was the peach cobbler. Second trip through we ordered differently. The hamburger steak was on special, now with brown gravy. MMM. Get that. My wife enjoyed her hamburger. Not the best hamburger ever, but worth the very reasonable price. The place was busy both trips. Everyone was here. Rich and poor, dressy and road-weary. Everyone. And everyone was happy. And the servers were keeping up - kudos, all y'all. The store is diner-chaotic yet clean. There are a couple of outside tables. Came to Damascus to do the Virginia Creeper Trail and stopped in for lunch. Before entering you can view the menu on the outside wall. We were greeted and sat immediately. There are about ten tables most seating four but they can also push tables together for a larger group. There is a TV mounted on the wall if you want to watch while you are dining. We ordered the tuna salad with chips, barbecue lunch plate, tree hugger salad, and fish plate. All of it was delicious and the portions are more like dinner portions but that's probably all relative to what your perception is. The atmosphere is casual and the servers were very friendly. There are lots of restaurants in this area but we definitely recommend this one. read more

This is your simple diner that does food well! The items are simple but they season everything in a way that turns something plain into deliciousness! Their hash browns are really interesting because they add cheese to it (or maybe they heard us wrong and those are not hash browns?). Whatever it was, it was really good. I usually don't like food that is too rich and while it looks rich and heavy, the flavors are well-balanced. Their biscuits are not dry at all. Their avocado toast is a special. First time here. Have to come back again, for the fried cabbage if anything! We had the special for dinner, grilled seasoned moist chicken breast, topped with bacon, on a bed of perfectly tender, crisp, broccoli; Food sensitivities precluded the cheese sauce that would normally come on the chicken breast, however. It came with a roll as well, and two sides, we chose collards and the fried cabbage. Fried cabbage was just awesome, I think it was Fried in bacon grease which made it so yummy. Staff super friendly with lots of smiles. This is a small, downtown place. it's not fancy... little square tables & chairs to sit at, and you can see the cook working behind the counter. Because it's not a fancy place, this is the reason it does not get rated a 5 but it sure is a nice, hometown spot with quality food, and a surprising amount of variety on the menu. They also appear to have a full bar should you want that, as there is a collection of liquor bottles on display at one end of the counter. read more
