New owners came in and fired entire team. Food was better before it sold and the staff use to be happy kind and made you feel known. We used to eat there at least once a week. This place looked cute but both the food and service was subpar. It was 1:30pm, Mothers Day Brunch, which they were advertising on their menu. I initially ordered a coffee, then a yogurt parfait. The coffee finally came after 15 minutes after a couple inquiries but I noticed the guy preparing it had to microwave it. I never understood his explanation why and he tried to reassure me it was fresh but needless to say it wasn't fresh and it tasted nasty. I asked for a fresh cup and got pushback. Our server said she could brew a new pot but was reluctant because, by this time, it's 2pm, and "probably nobody's going to be drinking coffee at this time of day". Again, they were serving "Mother's Day Brunch. She stomped back and brewed another pot, which appeared to be one of those 20-30C deals. It took another 10 minutes and I finally got my fresh cup of coffee. It wasn't much better than the first one. By this time the server had copped an attitude and wasn't very pleasant. The coffee was awful and the parfait was not good and seemed to have low quality ingredients. I could've put a nicer one together given ten minutes in a grocery store. Having learned that their salad special was pretty basic, I instead went with a wrap, which had tofu and greens with a zingy peanut sauce and some nice hash browns on the side. The menu had several vegan options and had acai bowls and such as well as lunch. It was pretty busy while I was there. I have always liked White Birch but not so much now. I've tried a couple of times over the last month and it's so bad. This morning I got a to-go order. One table in the restaurant and me. The burrito was hard, the veg oily and the potatoes so salty and spiced it all went in the trash. Couldn't eat it. We ordered biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. We got one cold crusty biscuit and a half a cup of lukewarm gravy. No eggs - nothing else -$7.00. I don't think so. I tried to call to share this info personally but the phone number provided rolled to a cell phone voicemail - who knows whose number that is. Sorry. Hope you can take this feedback and be better. I have truly fallen in love with far western Virginia and all the amazing small towns just off of I-81, and Abingdon is definitely on my list of favs. And on my visit to Abingdon, I stumbled upon White Birch | Food + Juice and I am so happy I did! The Vibe: This is an Uber cute place with seating outside. I could tell alot of locals go there and hang out. Service: Service was great, super friendly and attentive. I got alot of great suggestions and enjoyed chatting about the area. Food: The food was really good. I had the Birch Power Bowl - Rice & quinoa topped with broccoli, chicipeas, seasonal root vegetables, dried cranberries, seasonal nuts, Ziegenwald goat cheese, and a maple tahini dressing. I also added avocado and a fried egg to the bowl. The bowl was super satisfying and delicious. My only "complaint" was the raw walnuts. I would have preferred toasted walnuts or another type of nut. I also had the Golden Milk Latte which was surprisingly delicious! (Wolf Hills coffee, house made oat milk, turmeric paste, agave cinnamon, coconut oil). This is a cute little restaurant that serves up food on the healthier side. The portions are a bit smaller, but is good if you are looking for something on the lighter side. I ended up getting their Thai Chicken Wrap. It was good, but could have used more sauce to really amp up the Thai flavor profile. It was more of a standard chicken wrap, but was still good. A good ratio between the chicken and veggies. For the side, I opted for the roasted veggies instead of the fries. They were good and well seasoned, but left me wanting more quantity wise. If your coming for hot tea, there's not much of selection... only the classics. Which for a juice bar I was surprised they wouldn't have a bigger selection. The Tumeric tonic I thought would be spicer and stronger since it had both cayenne pepper and ginger, but it tasted a little watered down?? It it was still a good little treat though. I don't know much about juicing only the one I've done and thought I'd get more taste. The service all smiles which is nice and you can tell locals like the employees cause there's great chitchat happening around. The vibe is friendly! I like!! My friends and I brunched here on a cold, Sunday morning after an action-packed day at Dollywood! The café was cozy and warmed us up! I had an order of a biscuit with gravy with a sunny side up egg and potatoes on the side. The biscuit was soft and the gravy was well-seasoned and hearty. Good food and service all around! What a surprise, because I thought this was a juice store. But the food was so delicious. My wife had a colorful margarita type drink which looked amazing and tasted great. For me, the biscuits and gravy really hit the spot. The gravy was meaty with sausage and had a great smooth texture (not gelatinous). And the biscuit was flaky and crunchy with an obvious buttery flavor. The decor is simple and seating is roomy. We sat at the window and people watched while we enjoyed our lunch and drinks. They have a dart board menu. Put a blindfold on, throw a dart at it, and it will land on something wonderful. And there is no need to worry about preservatives, additives, genetic modification, color and flavor enhancers. It is just wholesome, locally sourced, nutritional food. Neither do you need to worry about fat, and sugar content. Anything you eat off the menu will be good for you. At the same time, you are supporting community farmers, that solidify the economic fabric of the region. Our first dart landed on the French Toast. Sourdough french bread, covered in a not too sweet apple compote, maple syrup, and chorizo on the side. Heavenly! Entree number 2 was the Birch Power Bowl. Broccoli, chickpeas, beets, squash, avocado, dried cranberries, walnuts over rice and quinoa. So good. Then there was the coffee. It was a medium roast, that went down easy. While I was enjoying my third cup, our waiter came over and asked if he could pour another cup into a container that I could take with me for later. At that point I was vibrating at 10,000 megahertz, with wide unblinking eyes, and possible giving off a light blue aura. I wisely graciously turned down his offer. Of course the next day we had to come back to delve deeper into the menu. That time we went with the Berry Loco Bowl. A mix of fruit berries, granola, chia and flax seeds, topped with coconut flakes. How can something that nutritious taste so good? Our last item was the Breakfast Burrito. Eggs, chorizo, mushrooms, onions, smoky gouda wrapped in a grilled spinach tortilla. Two breakfasts. This is such a cute little spot. I stopped in for breakfast and got the sausage and egg sandwich. All of the ingredients I could tell were fresh and quality, but everything was a bit overcooked for my taste, including the toasted wheat bun. Otherwise, it would've been perfect. I also got a ginger tea with honey, which I didn't know I needed. Delicious. Service was given with a smile and the decor of this place is rustic chic. Wonderfully pleasant and unexpected spot for breakfast. I pulled in, hungry for breakfast while returning home from a roadtrip. I didn't get too daring on my first visit, just a breakfast burrito with potatoes and a juice. The delicately seasoned potatoes reminded me why we always taste food prepared by others before adding spice. They were perfect as they came, and would've been spoiled by the addition of the Cholula on the countertop. The breakfast burrito with tightly wrapped with thoughtful ingredients (I appreciated the spinach), and nicely plated. Service was super friendly, without being overbearing. I will say the special Sauce is very spicy. Too much for me. My son had the pot roast. Another excellent dish. The Brussel sprouts were wonderful with an apple cider sauce. Some of the best I've had that weren't roasted. The bowl meal was really good too! The bartender was the server. She handled it well. The margirita is one of the best I've had!!
