Ate here 2 years ago as I finished a section hike on the AT. I was really hungry and remember being satisfied by the food and beer. Not this time. I really looked at and tasted the food this time. Cheapest ingredients I have ever seen. Dirty restaurant. Poor service. The owner and manager obviously do not care about quality thinking people will eat whatever is served. Will not return. My wife and I had the meatloaf with veggies for lunch today. It was phenomenal!!! If you don't try it, you will be sorry. I had mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy had sauteed onions. WOW!! We ate there twice during Trail Days. There was a wait both times, but it was short, probably because the staff works hard to make this place run smoothly, and also because hikers are kind and don't linger over empty plates. But we didn't feel rushed at all. The servers were so kind and everyone there seemed to want you to have a good meal and a great experience. Restaurants always get extra points from me if the staff seems like they care about the quality of the meal and the experience diners are having. It's a diner, so it's not fancy. It's functional, which is all you need. The food is good. We had cheeseburgers, which are large and delicious. I couldn't finish all of mine. When we returned, I had the meatloaf, which was huge, and the fried cabbage. Delicious. Lots of food for hungry folks! Good prices, too, and conveniently located right off the main street in Damascus. These are nice people and the place has a great vibe. You will eat heartily and well here! read more

I highly recommend this dinner. It came recommended by our creeper trail shuttle driver who said the fish/ fish sandwich was good. This day the had an Alaskan whitefish lunch 7.99 w choice of 2 sides. The waitress said it was her favorite. It was great, thick and lightly breaded. Menu had a good variety. She also said they had fantastic breakfast particularly the thick rich french toast. We were staying in Abington Va and couldn't make it back. She said during the weekend, breakfast line will be out the door so be warned. Enjoy! read more

We stopped here on our way to and from Shady Valley, TN not expecting much, and we were surprised by the quality, quantity, price, and friendly service. The classic breakfast consisted of perfectly cooked eggs, bacon, grits, and hash casserole that I could eat all day, everyday. For lunch, grilled chicken salad was well prepared with a variety of greens and vegetables that held us until dinner. Always rolling the dice with a salad at a diner, but they set a new standard for well prepared and quality diner options. Wow oh wow what a delight to hop off a bike and into this amazing diner. We were pushing closing time and asked our fabulous server, Jeannie, what we should eat. She said the Hillbilly Reuben, and boy was she right! With a side of grilled cabbage, my husband and I had more than enough for a late lunch. The meatloaf sandwich was delicious! It's not a dense meatloaf, but surprisingly "light", flavorful and the sauce/glaze really pulled it all together. It's on a lightly toasted and buttered hoagie roll with lettuce, mayo, tomato and jalapeño. The staff is very courteous and Bert supportive of one another. read more

As visitors in town, my husband and I followed the enthusiastic recommendations of locals to the Damascus Diner. The Damascus Diner is exactly that...a diner. It is not fancy or pretentious, but is a cozy small-town diner that offers friendly service, reasonable prices, and great-tasting, hearty food. We found that the diner was busy, even in the middle of the afternoon. Their other customers seemed to be a mixture of locals and hikers with backpacks. All seemed to be enjoying their meals and camaraderie in The Diner's casual atmosphere. We asked for menu suggestions from our server, who enthusiastically recommended the meatloaf sandwich. Because she was so clearly enamored with this item, we both ordered meatloaf sandwiches and cold drinks. Our sandwiches arrived quickly. The buns were soft, fresh, and lightly grilled. Our generous portions of meatloaf were clearly homemade and flavorful. The mayo, lettuce, tomato, and jalapeño pepper slices enhanced the meatloaf, making every bite of our sandwiches perfectly delicious. These sandwiches were incredibly filling and satisfying after a day of biking and hiking. If we are ever in this area again, we we will definitely return to The Damascus Diner! read more

This place was actually surprisingly pretty good! I love that the kitchen is open so you can see everything that's happening. My major misgiving about this local diner is that because the kitchen is open, you really can see everything the cooks are doing. They would be on their phones the majority of the time and when they got an order and started cooking, they would put their phone away and immediately grab meat without washing their hands or wearing gloves. Even though the argument can be made that the bacteria burns up on the grill, they would do the same with the condiments and buns. Our family of 6 visited yesterday after doing the 17 mile stretch of the creeper trail. The staff was extremely friendly, the food was quick and tasted good - especially the buffalo tots. I would highly recommend. With Covid I know how difficult it has been for restaurants to survive and our visit here was refreshing as we received great service and all of the staff seemed to enjoy their job and appreciate our business. read more

We stopped here after biking the trail. A local couldn't stop talking about how good it is. I thought he was trying hard to sell us on it and it would just be okay. He wasn't exaggerating, though. I had the bbq plate with potatoes and green beans. The bbq was amazing. The potatoes were good, but the green beans had this seasoning on it that was so good we asked for the secret.
