This is a great place. The entire staff is accommodating and engaged. From the moment you walk in the door, you just feel welcome. I just finished a full sleeve project with Joe DeJoya, and the whole experience was great. I got to a point where I was looking forward to not only getting the tattoo work done, but also to hanging out at the shop. Joe was amazing. The sleeve turned out better than I had dared imagine. We did a traditional Japanese dragon and had a challenging previous tattoo to cover, and the result is stunning. Over a 7 month period, Joe transformed my left arm into a piece of beautiful art. I am so proud to wear the result every day, and I look forward to planning the right arm with him. When we finished, it was actually kind of bittersweet. It felt great to be done, but I will miss spending regular time there watching the piece develop. I have found the perfect place to continue this journey, and I feel that there is an artist at Damascus who is a great fit for every style, and the environment there is one that really communicates how well the staff supports each other. Everything about this place was amazing! As a whole, the vibes were amazing and the entire staff was warm, welcoming, and friendly. I had my first tattoo with Katie Silk, whose talent, expertise, and flexibility left me thrilled with the final result. I got a tattoo of a red fern, and because I was concerned about a possible allergy to red ink, she was open to doing a small test dot of the red ink before I committed to the full tattoo. I knew I was in good hands. Edit: She also found a way to turn a 5 hour tattoo into 2 hours, and somehow made it look even better than it would've if it were 5. Absolutely phenomenal. When the test dot healed with no issue, I called the studio to book the full tattoo a few weeks later. I was expecting to have to explain my situation, but the staff remembered me right away and I was able to book the appointment in less than 5 minutes. When I called the studio the day before my tattoo to see if there was anything else I needed to do before the appointment, the staff was super kind and answered all my questions. The studio has great music, too. I'll definitely be coming back for future tattoos! read more

Very bad service, have been trying to schedule with Ryan an appointment since 4 months ago. His front desk and assistants - Giovani and Kimmy scheduled us for phone consulting and an appointment, then Ryan the artist wasn't even aware of that. He then called and told us we need to wait few more months because now he's not taking any new appointments. Very unprofessional and unorganized, he does have amazing pieces he makes but it seems like they're not interested in new business and just being rude and unprofessional to people that already were able to schedule or in our case half schedule / half into the process. My experience with Jon Roberts wasn't a great one. He has an impressive portfolio which is what drew me in, and seems to be talented at replicating something you give him to work with. However, I went in to get a full sleeve done and he was not able to really "create" any artwork for me. He worked off of images found online, and the elements in my unfinished sleeve do not integrate well with each other, it looks like a collage of individual elements, rather than a full, coherent design. He was not the most difficult guy to work with, but also not the easiest either. I didn't feel like he was "excited" to be working on the piece and it didn't seem like he had a vision for the end result and either didn't want to/ or couldn't create a unique custom design in full form. If I had an image or design on paper that I wanted replicated, I believe my experience would have been different, but I was relying on him as an "artist" to create something cool for me, and ultimately I ended up extremely disappointed. I am currently in the expensive and frustrating process of getting laser treatments to have the tattoo faded so I can work with someone else to have it covered up and fixed. read more

It has been just over a month since I got my first tattoo. I chose DTC because of the quality of all the tattoo artist's portfolios. I was really impressed that such a small (local!) shop had such a wide variety of consistently talented artists. I needed someone who was superb with color and very detail-oriented. The second I opened up Ryan's portfolio, I knew he was my guy. He is extremely friendly, patient and as gentle as one can be while repeatedly sticking you with a needle ;) In fact, everyone in the shop is really cool. I met Ryan for a consultation and we went over what I wanted for my tattoo--a fractal/color wheel/flower. I lucked out and got an appointment the next day and when I got there the following night, he showed me his drawing, applied the stencil and got to work. 3 hours later my tattoo was done and I couldn't have been happier. I jumped around and squealed like a little fan girl, but I couldn't help it. I loved my tattoo that day and if it's possible, I am even more obsessed with it today. I also wanted to note that Anthony did my husband's tattoo the following week and although it was really simple, he did a great job. His line-work is impeccable and if you're in the market for American traditional, Anthony is the way to go. read more

After shopping around the DC area I scheduled an appointment with Jon, drove to Damascus and he was hesitant in doing my tattoo until he said yes, this was back in Feb 2020 which if I paid $300 Jon agreed to send me a sketch of the tattoo before I scheduled the appointment which I wanted in April. Jon never send me a sketch, the receptionist lied to me saying she was going to return my money, Its MAY and did not receive a check. I had an appointment scheduled for about 3 months in advance for a tattoo of a quote and some flowers. I had a consultation call 5 days prior to my appointment and even though I submitted pictures of what I wanted months in advance, I was told by the artist that she couldn't do the style I wanted for the flowers. She then informed me that I could be refunded my deposit and request an appointment with another artist but would not be able to retain my appointment and couldn't get in again for an additional few months. I asked if I could keep my appointment and just have the text done and add the flowers later to which she told me she reserves Saturday appointment for larger tattoos so in short, no. I asked if she recommended anyone in particular who could do the style I'm looking for and was met with another unhelpful answer, basically I can look on their instagrams myself. I understand if she couldn't do what I wanted but I wish she didn't have me wait 3 months to find that out. This would have been my first tattoo and I was really looking forward to it for awhile. She was also just generally unapologetic/ apathetic about it and it just left me feeling disappointed. I'm sure she does good work but I definitely don't feel like a valued customer. read more

Finished up a tree on my leg, and then hopefully going straight into a galaxy themed sleeve. Pricing is maybe a touch higher than some of the other shops, but you get what you pay for. I held out on writing a public review for a little over a month, but now I that my coverup tattoo is in progress with a different artist and I finally have a solution to the mess that was done on me, I want to express my utter disappointment and let others know what happened. I chose this establishment based on its proximity to my house and because I had a friend that came out with amazing pieces of work done on his arm. With that in mind, and the high reviews I found, I went here. Unfortunately I couldn't get Rob or Ryan, so I went with another guy that happened to be available. My design was rather simple: a minimalist portrait of my late grandfather and a Korean text in his handwriting. I brought all the reference pieces and was prepared. First orange flag was the consultation process was rather rushed. I let it go because the artist said it would be simple, and I thought so to. So fine. But come the day of the session, there were many red flags that I should have just left. The sketch wasn't even worked on so I spent a little over an hour for him to mock something up. I had to request him to size down several times before I just said it's fine. He seemed really annoyed and apathetic, so I thought maybe I was being too demanding by asking for the piece to be smaller. I should have stuck to my gut and kept him working on it... I asked for his opinion on the location of the tattoo on my arm, and he shrugged several times. I should have known he just really didn't care. But I stuck with it because this piece meant so much to me as my grandfather very recently passed away. It was also my first tattoo that would be very visible as all my other pieces are pretty hidden. We finally get to work, and I was moderately satisfied with the stencil so we proceeded. There is much to say about my experience here, but to cut to the finished product: the results looked nothing like the stencil, the portrait was very boxy with sharp corners and edges when it should have been a lot softer, the facial features were nothing like the picture, the handwriting was misspelled and completely wrong (which was the most meaningful part of my tattoo), and honestly the dude was not in the right mind to be working today. I had to ask him to fix a few of the characters because it was just so wrong, and he was at least willing to do that. However his excuse for all of the errors was: "well when I'm working the stencil gets smudged off." It was not until the very end that I saw what was done... And I tried to hide my disapproval because I didn't want to cause a scene. I still left a hefty tip and was polite. It wasn't until on my way out that I realized he didn't give me back the references, and then it wasn't until that point that I realized he didn't even have it with him when he was working on my arm... When I went home, and after looking at the work, I couldn't do anything-- I just cried. I've never had a shotty tattoo done, I never needed to get a coverup. My grandpa's face-- it just was not him, and his handwriting-- it wasn't right at all. I contemplated the entire day whether I needed to get this shit lasered off or just do a coverup sleeve that would still set me back an unexpected thousands of dollars. I wasn't sure about a coverup because I thought it would be disrespectful to get something else plastered over my late grandpa's face, but my best friend convinced me that it's not even in his likeness so I should consider a coverup (since I wanted more work done in the future anyway for the art). Anyway. The reason I still give this place 2 stars, even with the embarrassment and disappointment of this experience, is for the other staff here. The receptionists were so kind and warm, the venue is very clean, and I've seen other works done that I cannot dismiss them completely. The artist that did the work on me, we had a brilliant conversation during the session and I can tell he is a good guy. He was going through some stuff that he told me about during the session, and an experience he had right before coming to the shop that morning, and I get it. Everyone has an off day. But the quality of work and the first few impressions of him that I had is just, a fail. Note to any artist out there: if you're not in the right headspace to work, then please reschedule. It doesn't help anyone. And a note to anyone getting ink done: be picky as hell. read more

The worst experience ever. drove over an hour to go in for a schedule consultation with jon roberts and was basically blown off within less than 5 minutes. never got my custom draw up or even listened to as far as what i wanted. wouldn't even look at the pictures i brought in and then just took the guy who was already there for an appointment to get work done. why schedule a consult and an appt at the same time? i want a lot of work done and was willing to spend a lot of money, but getting blown off like that. nah, i'll go elsewhere. they suck there. read more
