It was nearly impossible to go outside of our RV without being constantly attacked and bitten. Our legs were covered with bites that made our 3 nights stay very uncomfortable. We therefore opted to stay on the beach for the majority of the day then retreat much later to eat and sleep in our RV. After speaking with other campers, it became obvious that 178 was the worst for insect bites. Most sites didn't have as a severe problems as we did. Should we ever visit again, we will avoid 178 at all cost... Otherwise, Ocean Shores is a very sleepy community. Our best memories were hunting down 3 Garage Sales and meeting some great residents. Restaurant prices are very high as we weren't' going to pay $37 for a pizza or $34 for meager Fish & Chips (takeout)! The driving beach adjacent to the town was very crowded but once you go north of the Casino, it became more spread out and enjoyable. My advice? Go north my son, go north, and try and avoid the town entirely (unless you have kids)!

Different set up for some sites since there's nothing between to separate out the sites. There's an easy to follow path to get to the beach we went to a couple times. LOTS of beach to wander on. Be aware of people driving around if you have your pups.

The waves weren't as big and dramatic as they could get but it was still very cool to see the ocean rolling so much. Normally we go when it's nice and tranquil but we finally took it in with a storm coming in to boot along with the tides which created a cool but really intense experience. The wind was very strong and it was raining so staying outside for a long time wasn't really an option. Still it was really a fun experience and this sandy beach is normally a great place to go to in the summer!

Some winding & uneven walking surfaces...trails maintained and easy to follow. Street parking only, but wide enough you can get completely off the road.

Two showers were unavailable supposedly because of vandalism, but shouldn't they be fixed and open? The women's washroom had no soap for at least two days and the men's was running out of TP when we left. The shower could definitely use updating since you couldn't aim the shower head and the room should have been cleaned more often. The tent campsites across from us were tiny compared to other campgrounds. You have to park your car in the space allowed leaving not enough of room for a large tent, but most of the tent campers were couples with smaller tents. We rented the two yurts for 4 nights. The site for each yurt is quite large since it looked like the site formally was for 2 tent sites. They have a single outlet and a heater. The mattress pads were a joke and thankfully we brought a blow up mattress just in case. The yurt was much smaller than the cabins at other Washington State campgrounds so we had to organize kitchen utensils, etc. on the floor. The yurts have a bunkbed, twin on top and full lower. Our yurt had no ladder to get to the top, but our daughter's family's did have a ladder. (They didn't have blow up mattresses and I don't know how they managed to sleep. Our daughter did say she had bruises because the mattress sunk to the boards underneath.) Would we go back? Well, if it's just my wife and I, then we'd find a nice rental (and admittedly pay a lot more).

As a first time visitor of Ocean Shores, the drive to North Jetty beach is worth the trip. The slow…read morepace as you enter town and cruise your way toward the beach, you'll see quaint coastal houses and shops along the way. The beach has a good amount of parking. A few portable bathrooms available, fairly clean too. You'll walk through some small dunes into the beach area where it's wide and plenty of space. We saw several people walking their dogs, flying kites with their families, and jogging through the area. It's a cool beach if you're in the Ocean Shores area visiting.

Parking is super accessible. The great thing is that you can drive your car straight onto the beach or you can park by the gift shop and walk over. You'll find a bunch of people sitting outside of their cars and their food. It's quite windy here so if you're into flying kites, you'll love it here. You can also see people riding horses here too. Overall the beach is kind of lackluster and the water is pretty dirty.

We had to just leave. The stalls looked like they hadn't been cleaned in 24 hours at least, and this was on a holiday weekend which really merited more attention to the bathroom sanitation. We loved watching jellyfish and seeing Sea Lions right off the dock! We love Half-Moon Beach for the waves, the rock-hunting and how natural it is. The path from the observation tower to the end of the beach is well maintained and easy walking. We also loved watching the boats - even the HUGE ships in the bay! My family loves Westport and highly recommend it for a stay or a day trip if you're in the area!!

But you will not regret coming here (especially if you were considering going to Ocean Shores!) The 18 miles of sandy beaches that stretch from Westport to Tokeland is otherwise known as the South Beach is everything you would want in a Pacific Northwest Beach. Whether you're looking for a fishing adventure, beautiful beaches, surfing, kite flying, whale watching, crabbing, or just relaxing, the South Beach is the place to be. In the summer, you can beat it to beat the heat. It's not overdeveloped, in fact its quite understated. The marina district has a nice mixture of upscale restaurants (we got our first sushi restaurant, yay!) and hole-in-the-wall diners. Fishing is still a very important part of the community, and if you've ever wanted to try a fishing charter, you can do that from July 1 until the quotas are met for less than a round of drinks in downtown Seattle. Surfing is huge here, at Westhaven State Park and Half Moon Bay. There are 2 surf shops in town (Steepwater Surf Shop, and The Surf Shop) that can outfit you with a wetsuit and a board for under $50. A lesson will cost a little more, but not by much. Bikes and paddleboats are available for rent down on the water. Kites can be purchased for just a few dollars and can keep your kids busy for hours. In the spring and fall, watch the WDFW to see when the beaches are open for clamming. During crab season, you can drop your crab pots right off of the fisherman's boardwalk - no boats required. Starting in September, the salmon that were released by the local high school class start to return to the Marina, and you can fish right off the boardwalk and participate in the Salmon Derby. There is all kinds of old fashioned fun here. It's perfect for a romantic getaway or a family trip. Day trips and overnighters. There is everything from campgrounds to low budget motels, to luxury condos. All only 2 hours from Sea Tac!"
