After an emergency room visit, Dr. Hopner squeezed my husband in for an appointment which proceeded a call to his cardiologist which ended with an ablation procedure which saved his life. Worst medical office I've ever encountered! Run don't walk from this place. As I'm in the medical room with the PA, I can clearly hear a VERY irritated office assistant yelling to others in the office that she can't find someone's medical records. The longer she searched the louder she got. It was so disruptive I had a hard time focusing on my appointment. The office is a fire hazard with all the paper scattered in piles everywhere. It's 2026 people. Who uses paper charting any more? No patient portal to check lab results and good luck getting a paper copy. I asked for the new Dr, Toram, to review my recent CT scan from the ER. I set up an appointment to review it with the PA only to be told they hadn't gotten the records from the hospital. WTH? They had 2 weeks to prepare for this visit. I have to call them every month to renew my prescription. Dr Toram went so far as to suggest the office likes it slow in the summer months so if I need anything it's best to be seen in the spring! Good luck calling the office without being hung up on. I can't express my dissatisfaction enough with this place. If I could leave a no star review I would. read more

To be fair, I've never had Dr. Hopner as my doctor but not for lack of trying. I called and left no fewer than 10 voicemails at his office, after speaking with someone on the phone once to ask whether his practice is in my insurance's network. I never did hear back from them. If you know your insurance would cover his practice, then you probably wouldn't have this problem. But good luck reaching his office to make an appointment. read more

This has got to be one of the least professional medical establishments I have been to. If you value your time and feel that having an 11 AM appointment means not being seen until 12:17 . This is crazy!!! My father is elderly and the fact that I have been here 3 times with the same experience makes me feel disappointed. 10:27am, September 24th 2021. I am a biotech industry professional and what I witnessed at this office today was completely unprofessional and irresponsible on so many levels. I walked out after 10 seconds. "Don't come here if you value your health" was an incredibly accurate advice given in another review that I wish I had read before coming here. The receptionist and doc were in a middle of upholding a hostile work environment when I walked in, arguing aggressively over who gave who a patient's chart and when and why, completely unprofessional and, frankly, scary for the patients to witness. To add to that, I was told that the doc was working part time recovering from surgery and wouldn't be able to see me, yet there he was. The receptionist asked for my name and began to cough up a lung telling me it's her post nasal drip, she sounded like she lives in a chimney, not a single person was wearing a mask, not ANY of the 5-6 staff visible to me nor the one older man patient who was waiting, the receptionist rolled her eyes at me when I said the lack of masks made me uncomfortable and proceeded to put on her pretty little summer-dress kitchen-window-curtain of a "mask" making her face look like Tarzan's crotch during Mardi Gras, passive aggressively telling me "have a nice day" over and over as I walked out saying it's completely unacceptable for any business let alone a medical office to be so irresponsible during a global pandemic. This is gross negligence and I have reported you to the County of Santa Clara, submitted a California Member Grievance Form with Cigna, and a Customer Care Complaint also with Cigna. read more

After going there for preventive care that should be 100 % covered by my insurance, I ended up with a bill of over $100 to pay out of my pocket (and my PPO payed $180) because the doctor applied the wrong billing codes. Even after many months of phone calls, the doctor keeps on forgetting to correct them. Apart from that, this also seems to be the last doctor's office in the Bay area that uses the fax machine -- and complains that the other doctors are unable to receive their faxes. So I carried the referral from their office to the specialist myself. But I should also mention that the nurse who take care of me was the only bright spot in this place. read more

Anti-Maskers Welcome! There is a sign on the door that says that masks are required, regardless of immunization status. If only this were true, or enforced. On Thursday, Jan 20, 2022 I went in for a scheduled appointment and sat in the small waiting room, to see that the regular receptionist was out and a woman Brenda was filling in. Brenda was not wearing her mask, it dangled from her ear. She was flustered and venting about some scheduling confusion and complained in front of the patient in question. It was so unprofessional and I was embarrassed for all people present. I went back for my appointment, the nurses who helped me were masked all the time. But when I exited back into the waiting room, a male patient was standing up, chatting unmasked with the staff behind the desk. I asked the man to put his mask on and he said that I should just stay 6 feet away. Nobody behind the counter said anything. Brenda was still unmasked. Then, the man was allowed to enter the hallway of the office unmasked. I was shocked. When I returned home, I called in and asked to register a complaint because of their disregard for basic safety of their patients. There were no apologies, The woman actually defended their maskless work, and defended the maskless patient, saying that he may have had a respiratory problem. Their excuses are not good enough. In the middle of a public health crisis, they don't care about the safety of their waiting room. This isn't negotiable and I will never go there again. read more

My father was a doctor, I was trained as a biochemist, and I have spent my career in the health-care business. Having just 'graduated' to Medicare, I have been seeing Dr. Hopner for the past year. Dr. Hopner is a first-rate physician. He listens to his patients (at least to me) - which is a critical indication of his professionalism - and he has been highly attentive and responsive to my needs. His staff has been fully professional, extremely polite, and pleasant to deal with. I do see some negative reviews about Dr. Hopner, but my experience has been very positive. This place is filthy, dust everywhere, the tips of the otoscopes are kept in a jar of blue liquid like at the barbershop, there's an EKG machine (I think that's what it was, it looked so out of date it could have been something else) and the wires are on the floor next to it. Worst of all, none of the front desk is wearing a mask. This is in the middle of Covid!! I went there to have my leg examined (they don't do virtual visit so I had to go in person) and the physician's assistant didn't even put on gloves to look at it. I've actually never seen Dr. Hopner even though I've been going there for years. It's always a different physician's assistant or nurse practitioner. Aside from the lady at the front desk who is ok if you catch her on a good day (I had to listen to her complain about other patients while I was waiting to go in, hello HIPPA violation), I've never seen the same staff twice. Switching PCP is always a hassle but it was worth it for me. read more

On 06-08-14, I received a discharge letter from Dr Hopner, that he is withdrawing himself from future care as my physician and to use the next 30 days till (07-08-14), to find a new doctor (without any explanation). In hindsight that was a blessing. I started seeing him from April of 2013 and he never sent me for a blood test. But when I found a new primary Doctor the first thing she did was to check my blood and she found out that I was a vitamin D deficient. I just read that some of the side effects of this deficiency are fibromyalgia, fatigue, muscle weakness and chronic pain. I was having all those pains when I chose him as my doctor, but he never had the curiosity or desire to find out my weak points through a general exam. One of the first discussions I had with Dr Hopner were, about some chronic headaches, that I'm suffering for years and his answer was "the best thing you can do is, to have relationships with three or four women and go to sleep with whoever is available" (I thought what a "scientific" answer and what a classless doctor). But when I went to the Stanford Clinic a headache doctor, found out that, I was lacking a hormone and he recommended oxytocin spray. Since early June of 2013, I was experiencing pains in my legs. During one of my appointments, he was ill and his substitute Dr Yelena, when she saw my swollen legs, she diagnosed me immediately with venous insufficiency. The next times that I visited Dr Hopner for different reasons, I mentioned the pain in my legs and every time, he was dismissing them with phrases like "you do not have anything serious". Plus his basic motto was "you have to learn to live with pain" and I'm sure this came from his personal experience, because few years back, he had an auto accident. So he was teaching me, how to live my life according to his own pains or his own standards. He kept me hostage for six months without allowing me to treat my veins. I explained to him that my legs were given me, so much pain, that when I was getting back home, I have to elevate them on a coffee table to get some relief. By end of December of 2013, finally I convinced him, that I needed a Vascular Doctor, which at that time, it was kind of late, because I could not walk too far, from the heavy weight, I was feeling through my legs (leaking veins). But instead to send me to a reputable Vascular doctor, he sent me to Dr Kokinos, who, has damaged many people's legs and on Yelp you can read the patients horror stories. Basically Dr Hopner sent me to the lion's mouth to be torn apart and in hindsight, I was correct. Who knows what was the benefit or better the commission? But after the fiasco of varicose veins ablation, I am wondering what kind of arguments were happening between Dr Hopner and Dr Kokinos, behind my back. Eventually Dr Hopner decided to dismiss me. I am wondering now, if he has a clear consciousness after that. As I mentioned above, that year I was experiencing musculo-neurologic pains. According to Dr Hopner, I was suffering from pinched nerves and he sent me to Dr Lo, who sent me to the Radiology for X-Rays and MRIs (cervical & lumbar) and he never found any pinched nerves, that was causing all those pains. Dr Lo (pain doctor) recommended to get a cervical epidural, which gave me, relief for my neurological pains in June of 2013, which now I realized half of the pains were coming from the varicose veins and the rest were coming from fibromyalgia, that was coming from lacking vitamin D. That epidural helped me, to recover, for four or five months. In November of 2013, I had a tendonitis on my right arm and when I went to Dr McCoy (orthopedic surgeon), he recommended instead of a cortisone shot, (because of the many nerves in that area), prednisone and I took it for five days without any problem. Around December of 2013, I started complaining that the neurological pains were coming back and Dr Hopner decided to imitate Dr McCoy and he repeated the prednisone for five days and I almost died. My body could not tolerate a second dosage in so short time frame. During that week I had become a living zombie and I was afraid to go outside the house. Plus I got a cramp on my right calf that, I could not get rid off for days. Only if you think, that these pills supposed to help me, to avoid a new epidural. But in actuality that medication made it, more urgent for another epidural and by January 2nd of 2014, Dr Lo, gave me the second one, at O'Connor Hospital. The bottom line is, Dr Hopner can not diagnose any illness, besides flu or cold. His solution for every pain is the book with phone numbers of other doctors. Don't go here if you value your health. The doctor cares so little of his practice he has physicians assistants running his two locations. You cannot switch between locations. I went to Aborn Road location. PA Mr. Romero was rude and disinterested. After ordering test blood, etc. I went back in to get results. From the time I signed in at the desk until I walked out I was there 13 minutes. PA Mr. Romero suggested cortisone for my knee when I said no he looked mad. Then when he commented on why my blood work showed a certain level, I reminded him I told him about that. At that point he told me "Have a nice day" and I was dismissed. None of my issues where addressed and he didn't even go through all my test results. It cost $200 for the lab work, with no real explanation or treatment. I asked to talk to the doctor got told he was only at that location every other Thursday in the afternoon. No way to get an appointment in the next few weeks. So I called the other location and I could not see the doctor at the location he is at more because I went to the Aborn Rd location first. No one said anything about the two locations until I asked to see the doctor. I started leaving messages for the Doctor on Friday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and as of today I haven't heard anything. He doesn't care what his PA do or if proper care if given. I still need help and I still have the same problems that brought me into the office and to pay for lab work. So now I am out $ but no treatment or idea what is wrong. DO NOT GO TO THIS PRACTICE. Dr get paid the same if he sees patients or his PA's do...less work for him and same amount of money. Glad money is more important than patients. read more

Dr Hopner's staff is amazing. Don't take this as a negative (unless you are some stuck up) but it feels like home. Think of the TV show Rosanne. I hate Drs. I hate hospitals. I even have "White coat hypertension, more commonly known as white coat syndrome, is a phenomenon in which patients exhibit a blood pressure level above the normal range, in a clinical setting, though they don't exhibit it in other settings." But Dr Hopner has his staff make me feel at home and relaxed. I'm glad a friend recommended him, changing my life for the better. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Hopner for about 10 years now. I have a couple of different physicians because of my health but Dr. Hopner is hands down my favorite. His office staff of Andrea and Martha are always pleasant and professional without sacrificing anything or detracting from a visit. I have to see Dr. Hopner monthly so I've seen them in a variety of challenging situations all of which were handled with making a patient feel like a pest. I'm not a fan of a PA, Tatiana, that covers the practice when the doctor is not available but I can usually avoid having to interact with her. We were referred to Dr. Hopner years ago after our primary physician retired and he has been wonderful. We have been with him now around 20 years and he has always gone the extra step to find out what is wrong and to treat it. I have gone through 2 bouts of Pneumonia and my wife was diagnosed with MS in 2000. During all that time he has been always helpful and has gone above and beyond a number of times. Renelle was/is awesome!!! And I'm sure that her abilities are missed, but that happens and I am sure he will get a new crew up to speed quickly. read more

It used to be a great practice, but looks like Renelle who is gone was keeping it all together. The whoever lady answers the phone, can't think outside the box, she's rude and talks like a dum robot. She probably doesn't realise that in the end of there is a patient not a customer, with a health issue looking for help, probably desperate or stressed. Maybe her previous job was in telemarketing. I am a member of Anthem Blue Cross and found Dr. Hopner office on their website and scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Hopner at his Aborn office but when I got there for my appointment I was told that Dr. Hopner's physicians Assistant PA Mr. Romero will be seeing me and that Dr. Hopner is not in office and I was waiting for about 30 minutes while I can see him chit chatting with the staff because his assistant left the door open. I have no problem with seeing a PA because for 40 plus years I had 0 issues with any PA until I met Mr. Romero. PA Mr. Romero is the most incompetent Physicians Assistant I have ever met, he should not even be allowed in doctors office because he introduced himself and started giving me a lecture on the medications I was taking for 20 plus years that work very well for me and were prescribed by the best specialists in the field. He almost wanted me stop taking my medications and gave me a lecture that had nothing to do with the reason I came to the doctors office. I had a minor skin affection that he wrote a prescription for Clotrimazole 1% that I later found was available on over the counter. I ended up scheduling an appointment with a specialist who within seconds of looking at my skin prescribed a medication that resolved the issue within week. I wish that had ended there but during my first visit he diagnosed that I had urinary tract infection and I need to start a course of medications right away and ordered bunch of lab tests that were in the same building. I started the course of the medications had severe side effects. I called the office to find out about my lab results and found out I had 0 issues according to the nurse and was told to stop the medications. I am planning to file a complaint with the medical board regarding Mr. Romero. Unfortunately, my previous primary care physician retired and I had to pick this office but warning to others that are looking for a primary care physician to come here. read more
