Ever had some sap at the other end of a phone repeat exactly what you said in different words, and then talk DOWN to you because you did not use their jargon? Ever had a finance person talk over you when you are explaining the three things about the loan that are most important to you? I had both of the above happen in the SAME CALL, and I was so upset after I hung up (on that loan agent) that when Dan called me, I have to admit I was ready to joust. But then something happened... Dan actually LISTENED to what I needed, adapted his jargon to mine, and answered my one complex loan question with, "You know that is a really tough question! No one has ever asked me that before. I don't want to misquote the regulations, so I am going to have to research this and get back with you tomorrow morning with the answer!" Dan didn't "shuck and jive" and keep talking, he simply asked, "Whats next on your list of important issues in this purchase?" He again LISTENED. And only then did he begin to answer all of my remaining questions and could we began charting the best solution for my loan. At the end of our call he asked, "When is good for me to call you tomorrow with the answer to ____?" He called the next day at the appointed time... and we got me the best loan!
