Schaub+Srote Architecture Firm should be your first choice for your home building project, here's…read morewhy: In my first meeting with them I was a bit nervous but that quickly went away due to their professionalism, knowledge, qualifications and their personalities that made me feel at ease and like we were on the same page. After giving them several of my ideas as far as looks, layout, type of home and genre, I hit them with something I thought was going to scare or detour them from my project...the fact that I'm paralyzed and need a COMPLETELY ACCESSIBLE home! Boy was I wrong! They put me at ease with their knowledge of ADA laws and in describing several past projects they worked on with the same parameters. In a timely manner, they returned back with my DREAM HOME! I was in shock! After just our initial meeting, they drew up plans for something I have always pictured but couldn't put on paper...they did it! I couldn't be any happier with the design they provided. It is a testament to their attention to detail, knowledge and vast experience. After a few SMALL tweaks, we were ready to go. Throughout the building process, Schaub+Srote acted as my general contractor, due to my limited ability. They were at the job site constantly, talking with contractors and overseeing the project was not only done right, but in a timely manner. Throughout the entire build, I was given several updates as to work that was completed and upcoming work to be completed. They were at my disposal, through phone, conference calls, email, texts and even in person. Whenever I wanted to talk to them, they made themselves available. They NEVER made me feel like I was a bother to them or a disruption to their work, but rather a part of my project and the process. Throughout this process, I also worked tirelessly with interior designer, Heather Helms. She had the same level of professionalism, knowledge, experience and pleasant demeanor, as Schaub+Srote. She helped me pick EVERYTHING for my new home and balanced perfectly, the fine line of her knowledge with my tastes. I NEVER once felt she was over reaching or thinking all my ideas were horrible. I felt more like we were a team and she loved my ideas and she helped bring everything together! It is for these reasons I, not only, give Schaub+Srote Architecture Firm five stars, I will ALWAYS consider them family and maintain close contact with each and every one of them!

I hear from all my designer friends that this place is fantastic. I've followed their Instagram for…read moreyears and love it. I am not a designer, however, just a consumer that likes to high-end design my own stuff. I have a designer for certain things but do lots myself. I'm that type that has to (gasp!) Pay for my own samples! I have consistently been annoyed by the 'to the trade only' dead ends on everything. Even my spouse is a professional wallpaper hanger but when trying to buy some wallpaper he often gets that trade = designers and architects only, not installers. It gets really old. And, um, they are trade. Is this how designers stay in business? I respect good designers a lot but find this practice dated and frustrating. I inquired with KDR locally when trying to price/buy a certain sofa. I knew several specific designs I was looking for and had my own material. Generally I end up having to purchase online because locally I hit these "to the trade only" dead ends but this time, I was going to try KDR since it appeared on their site that they sell furniture to consumers. After inquiring, I get asked questions like "are you remodeling or updating decor? Do you have a designer? Where did you find the sofas?" I thought these were strange questions. I just want a sofa and obviously I found them in the manufacturer's catalog but why does this matter? I emailed and asked for a quote, answered the questions and again asked for a quote and never got a quote. I was told she needed to "check with my designer before proceeding". In comparison, I called 3 North Carolina stores and had a quote immediately with no questions asked. Back to the interwebs.
