I had root canals performed on 2 teeth due to trauma. I have serious dental anxiety. I told him my concerns during the consultation and he spent 45 minutes making sure I thoroughly understood every step of the procedure. I've always had discomfort during the numbing process, but I didn't even feel a pinch when Dr. Boehne did it. I was referred to Dr Boehene's office to have a root canal. I saw Dr Chu, Let me say this was the BEST dental experience I've ever had. I am extremely nervous with going to a dentist. When I was told I needed a root canal, I was freaking out. Dr. Chu and the staff are amazing. From making the appointment to having the actual root canal it was a quick and painless process. Everyone at this office is very kind and professional. I never felt any discomfort during the root canal, X-rays and even afterwards. Within 3 hours of leaving the office I was feeling like nothing had been done. No pain, no soreness at all. Dr. Boehne and his staff were nothing but amazing. I was in a lot of pain but could not afford my portion of whatever my insurance wouldn't cover. He offered to get me done and pay him in installments if that would help me. So naturally YES I opted for that. He explained everything so well through out the whole procedure. He also assured me that it would be as painless as possible. I've had another root canal before at another dentist and it was not a pleasant experience. This was nothing but. To top this all off Dr. Boehne and his staff stayed late just to get me done. Jack (I believe that was his name) the dental assistant told me that they were there for the patients and that they really care about us. You know how many times I've heard that and have not felt that way?! Tons!!! This is one of the few times that I felt that this experience was genuine. I really felt like they cared about me and that they take pride in what they do. I hope I don't have to get a root canal again lol but if I do I will definitely come back here. I ended up needing 4 root canals over the past couple of years and thankfully was referred to Dr. Boehne. Before coming to Dr. Boehne I was terrified of this procedure, but now it's not a big deal. He asks a lot of questions and takes time to see if a root canal is really needed or if a more conservative solution can be found first. The actual procedure is painless (just a pinch for the anesthetic, and some time in the chair). I like that he tells stories and thoroughly explains everything so you really feel like you're in good hands. I wouldn't go to anyone else. Dr Boehne and his staff are amazing. I had a root canal with another dentist that ended up developing a bad infection, that dentist wanted to pull my tooth and put in an implant. Thankfully I got a second opinion and was referred to Dana Point Endodontics. Simply the BEST. Dr. Boehne has a superlative education (and teaches at UCLA!) and cutting edge equipment and techniques, which means that I received the benefit of the latest and greatest and all of his expertise. He is an excellent communicator, and went over the images of my tooth, making sure that I understood my situation and the treatment plan. I had walked into his office with fear about the root canal process, but his detailed explanations and responsiveness to my concerns made me completely comfortable. The treatment was easy (which seems weird to say, but it was) and apparently I even dropped off to sleep during the process! I remember looking at him several times while he was working on me, and thinking how wonderful it was that he had such amazing expertise. I would never go anywhere else. Dr. Boehne could not have been any better, or more kind. In fact, he was a genuine blessing! Every one in the office is just lovely. Dr. Boehne did an amazing job of removing a broken post, inserting the new post and restoring the area around my tooth so that I can get a new crown placed on my front tooth. I was really concerned that I might have had to opt for an implant but because of the awesome job he did, my new crown will probably last a lot longer that the one I had before! I am writing this review on behalf of my parents, who have both seen Dr. Boehne and asked me to leave him a good review since they are not on Yelp. My dad saw Dr. Boehne first. He had a raging tooth ache and saw Dr. Boehne for a root canal. The root canal made him better right away, and he was really surprised how easy it was. The procedure was completely comfortable. His office was very clean and his staff was really nice and helpful. My dad was impressed with the technology, it was way more hi-tech than a normal dental office. He also commented about how well he and his assistant worked together. My dad was so happy with him that when my mom needed a root canal, he had her go to Dr. Boehne instead of having our family dentist do it. My mom had a tooth that bothered her for a while, and after the root canal it has felt so perfect that she can't remember which tooth it was. In short, our family is consistent with going to the dentist, so we know what to expect, but we were really surprised and blown away with just how good this office is. Dr. Boehne is a true professional and an expert in his field ( a dentist that specializes in root canals - who knew?) and I recommend him to anybody that needs a root canal. read more

After getting the bad news that I needed a root canal, I was referred to Dana Point Endodontics. I have had one other root canal and was terrified of getting another one. (I'm Already not fond of dental work so this news was particularly anxiety-enducing). My previous experience was not fun and I wasn't excited about having another one. However, upon meeting the staff I was assured that they would do everything they could to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. When I arrived for my appointment I realized they were telling the truth. They offered me earbuds to borrow so I could listen to music during the procedure, a blanket, and the chair I was in was a massage chair! Dr. Chu was very nice & professional, he explained everything that was going on and even double checked to make sure I absolutely needed this done. The experience was excellent & I couldn't believe getting a root canal could be that pleasant. I was there for an hour & a half, maybe two and It felt like 30 minutes. I was so comfortable the whole time & didn't feel a thing. I would never want another root canal & wouldn't wish it on anyone, but if you have to get one, definitely go here. Dr. Chu is one of the best doctors I've ever had. After having a shaded front tooth for years and it eventually erupting in redness from the middle inside, my favorite dentists Dr. Gerard Frankie's protege Dr. Marco Rubio had to start a root canal as it was getting worse daily. Dr. Rubio could not complete the procedure as he didn't have the correct tools, which is a greatly appreciated truth. After a quick phone call and referral to endodontist Dr. Wayland Chu and within days I was back in Dana Point from San Diego to finish the delicate procedure. The office is easily one of the nicest offices I've ever seen, as well as being in an incredible area. After a quick form filling out and normal dentist type proceedings and I was what seemed like a rather short time, all done. Dr. Chu was very professional and caring, and just a great doctor in every regard. My front tooth looks better than it has in years, and the follow-up was the most complete I've ever received. I recently had an emergency root canal that Dr. Boehner performed and he and his staff were amazing! They even stayed after hours to accomodate me. The ladies in the front office were kind and kept me calm. Dr.B's technicians were so gentle and attentive and fussed over me while I lay there in fear :) Thank you guys for making this root canal a non nightmare experience. Simply put, Dr. Boehne and his team at Dana Point Endodontics are outstanding. I was recently on vacation in Newport Coast and developed a toothache. Having had them before, I knew I probably needed a root canal. Fortunately, I was referred to Dr. Boehne by a retired endodontist (Dr. John Schoeffel) in the Dana Point area who was recommended by an excellent endodontist in San Francisco (Dr. Fulton Yee). It was Friday morning and Susan, Dr. Boehne's receptionist, squeezed me in for an initial consult that afternoon. In fact, I needed 3 root canals in teeth that had been crowned. Dr. Boehne & his assistant Vincent offered to come in on Saturday morning to do 2 of them and to stay late Monday evening to do the third, since their schedule was booked solid prior to our departure for home on Wednesday. Mission accomplished and I'm pain free. Dr. Boehne uses cutting edge equipment and has the expertise, attitude and approach that enables him to do a more thorough job with a smaller hole through the crown. He and Vincent are not only consummate professionals, they are personable and compassionate too. The entire office reflects that approach. If you live anywhere near Dana Point, I highly recommend this practice. I'll be returning next year for an annual checkup when I'm vacationing in the area. Hopefully, I won't need services before then, since it will be hard to replicate the outstanding quality of Dana Point Endodontics. If I do, I might just have to drive south to see Dr. Boehne. read more
