I called dr Briney's office for a consultation: it was an emergency, I indicated from the very beginning I was in pain due to a damaged tooth. I had a 3-o'clock appointment but they kept me waiting and waiting; upon appearing, the doctor joked he'd woken me from my nap... after discussing the treatment plan, the doctor mentioned he would not charge me for 'some things' but the the price sheet they handed me showed no credits or discounts of any kind. After the X-rays, when it came to scheduling my appointment, I was told the doctor had no spot available for my treatment for the next 2 weeks and then was leaving for vacation. It was an emergency but they never told me I would not be treated until June when the doctor was back from vacation. What happened to medical ethics??? What happened to honesty? They exposed me to radiation knowing they would not be treating my emergency. read more

I had a floating silver filling that raspberry seeds and blackberry seeds used to get caught on. Dr Briney fixed it! I was welcomed by a sophisticated, waiting room and the front staff. The front desk sat me in one of their comfy dental chairs in their dental areas. The beautiful dental assistant, Shy, asked me a few questions. Then she took photos of my loose filling from the top view and the side view Then in came the doctor with the numbing paste and eventually the needle with the anaesthetic. Other dentists would have jabbed my gums by the tooth 3-4 times I only felt 1 jab and jolt when Dr. Briney did it. I forgot to breathe, and didn't notice until Shy said in a calming voice, "take deep breath's in and slowly breathe out." When the shot was done, I asked the doctor 10 minutes later, it had my left jaw, lower left cheek, and the left side if my lip feeling funky! And the high pitched drilling began! Again, Shy gently reminded me to breathe. When I felt a tiny twinge, I let them know, and he paused immediately to check in. He explained that I was feeling the heat from the tool because it was vibrating too fast. He slowed it down, and I didn't feel a thing for the rest of the procedure! He removed all the decay that occurred under the loose filling then replaced it with filling that closely resembled my tooth's color! Mind you, both the doctor and his dental assistant were walking me through each step, to ease my anxiety. Before I knew it, my tooth was cleaned and filled! That night, when the anesthetic wore off, I noticed my new filling was hitting before the rest of my teeth. I left them a phone message asking to be seen the next day. The next morning, I was notified that I was on their schedule. I got in, and was seen immediately. I did the tap-tap-tap-grind with that paper thingy. He drilled for a second. I tap-tapped on the paper again, another half a second of drilling, and VOILA! I know have my normal bite, and I can chew on that side with no pain or seeds getting stuck in it anymore! I was a patient when he bought the practice from Dr. Oaks back in the late 90's. His staff sold my parents on getting my teeth sealed to protect from cavities. They could not figure out how to fit the dryer for the sealant in my mouth, so bacteria got under the sealant and weeks later I needed an emergency root canal. But wait, it gets better!!!! He refers me out for the root canal and I am sent back to his office for the crown. Dr. Briney fails to remove the packing material in the tooth from the endodontist before finishing the job and putting the crown on. We discover this years later when the tooth starts throbbing randomly and needs a second root canal thanks to the decayed packing material. He was just out of dental school at the time, but unfortunately, I'm still paying the price for the work he did almost 20 years ago and will eventually have to extract the tooth. Dr. Briney has been my dentist for 20+ years and he is the best! Karrie, my hygienist, does the most thorough cleanings with very little discomfort. Fortunately I haven't had many dental issues but recently I fell and hit my teeth. Dr. Briney saw me immediately to check everything out and I was so impressed with his care and thoroughness to make sure everything was ok, even beyond just my teeth. My 20 year old son now goes to Dr. Briney too and I'll be bringing my 17 year old son in soon as well. Dr. Briney is extremely knowledgeable and professional, a great communicator and he will make you feel at ease with all of your dental care/procedures. I am re-writing this review. A with some dental issues they take a while to properly evaluate. Dr. Briney apparently cracked my molar in August 2019. He spent months with unnecessary "adjustments" grinding down the good enamel to cover up the jagged edge on that tooth and the one in front of it. I never had any pain before that time! After three dentistts, Dr. Eggleston, Dr. Stein and finally Dr. Buehler and two Endodontists, Buehler and Hsaio, of SC dental specialties confirmed the tooth was cracked. If someone (BRINEY OR ANOTHER DOCTOR) had put a crown on it last year, the tooth may have been saved. According to Dr. Hsaio the root canal was never going to work (see Dr. Cavalieri review under NEWPORT ENDODONTISTS). I have been in pain for over a year and am now facing a tooth extraction. Briney's office credited some of the work - I am waiting for a refund from Dr. Calvalieri (NEWPORT ENDO) I am still left holding the bag for 50% of the extraction - no offer from Dr. Briney to offset those costs, or for any pain and suffering. I like the office staff and the Doctor on a personal level, but I do NOT RECOMMEND HIS WORK! I came to Doctor Briney because my last dentist could not make me a night/bite guard which fit. Both he, and my previous dentist, suggested I replace old silver fillings, I have never had any mouth or tooth pain in that tooth and no major work needed in 20 years. I had 4 years of orthodontistry and I have good oral hygiene - with regular cleanings. I agreed to go ahead with the work. Doc Briney did the first porcelain crown and I was in severe pain. The gums and muscles around where he shot were aggravated for weeks. I could not chew on that side (HOT AND COLD SENSITIVE), and it was difficult to yawn or open mouth (he did extra anesthesia). He replaced another silver filling on the top molar above it and left it rough and jagged (hurt my tongue). He changed my bite (I cautioned him not to) and could not get any of the three teeth he worked on on my left side of my mouth to stop hurting. He ground down good enamel and did painful adjustments for months (saying it might hurt for SIX MONTHS!). He took a mold for the night guard. The first one didn't fit; second one left a horrible taste in my mouth (cheap or improperly cured). I returned it to him as unwearable. In NOVEMBER/DECEMBER I called my insurance company, who referred me to another dentist and endodontist who said the Briney filled the teeth too shallow (Damaging pulp) and I may need 1-3 ROOT CANALS. The orthodontist I saw said he changed the bite so my teeth on that side don't even close together! My next Dentist (EGGLESTRON) also said that I did not need to replace the last silver filling. Doc Briney's office has created a financial and billing nightmare for me. While he credited back some work to my DENTAL insurance (work he had not yet done), he would not give me credit for any of my out of pocket charges my VISA and refused to provide his liability insurance carrier (VERY BAD SIGN!). I have to front money for expensive evals procedures to correct and sue him in civil court to recover. Again, not a good dentist experience. read more

A couple of the reviews here are concerning and I'm wondering if untrue. My husband, myself, daughter, son-inlaw, sister, brother inlaw and grandson have gone to Dr Briney for sometime now. The cleaning is the best hands down any of us have ever had!! Dr Briney is skillful and almost painfree in his procedures and very caring. I spent much of my childhood life with my hand over my mouth taking away the innocence of smiling when happy: very soon sadly I became a victim of the good old bullying and name calling that was done by many including teachers, other foster kids and my classmates: From snaggletooth to Dracula ...I just wanted to play, laugh and sing in a very difficult world. I did not have support or protection as a child when those days occurred and there was no comfort given to a crying, fearful child who sat there alone in the dental chair with the weighted X-ray blanket kept over me to help keep me "still" when cavities required the long needles and painful drills. The sights/smells/sounds of these experiences were truly traumatic. So... 8 teeth were pulled when I was 16 and I finally got braces. In those times, I am grateful to have had state sponsored dental cal. The hand over the mouth smile behavior continued for quite a very long time.... With time, there is healing and as a Neonatal ICU Registered nurse, my smile is part of the "tools" that I MUST have to provide complete comfort and trust with my patients and their families. I had some previous, poor dental work (to include a porcelain veneer placed over a grey front tooth that had suffered one of the most horrific and painful moments of a root canal as an adult that was very expensive) that led me to many issues, where I was serendepitily dropped into the chair of Dr.Briney. He has been doing this long enough to know that most of his patients may be there with some serious traumatic experiences. This is why he has the X-ray machine that doesn't make your gums and lips bleed with the old bite wing cardboards that we all suffered through... he has a fancy one that actually plays music haha! He was one of the most kind, gentle and genuine Dentist/Doctors I had ever met. 3 years later... he's the same and every time I get a cleaning... every single tooth is cared for as if they were each their own island... with the amazing hygienist Karrie. The old "cleaning that I had known DEFINITELY was NOT like this. I have since moved an hour away and have zero hesitation about making the drive to my appointment. I had to have deep cleaning done by my hygienist and I never felt one shot, if there was discomfort at all, the procedure was paused for adequate numbing...Karrie used the magic of patience along with the pre numbing gel and there I was without fear at all of my follow up appointments and looking forward to my cleanings ... like I never in my life had. I will be FINALLY completing the journey of a thousand miles (horrific childhood dental experiences, to painful and poorly done dental work) or about 40 years of prayers for that pretty, smile in may when Dr. Briney fixes the messes made by other "dentists" and my most important few front teeth are carefully cared for by the trusted hands of the FIRST doctor in my life that is as excited as I am, to help me... smile. I had a emergency with a tooth breaking in half and called Dr Briney's office late in the day, I was in no great pain but got me in the very next day and assessed the tooth and performed a root canal with no, I repeat no pain at all. they later put a permanent crown on and did a outstanding job. The most professional dentist and staff you will ever find in south O C. This dentist is a hack. Do not go to him. Dr. Brineys work is well below industry standards. All the work he did had to replaced within one year (3 crowns) One crown just fell out, he had not put a post in it. When I brought that that up to him, since I was out of town when it happened, he said he would fix it only if I showed him the crown that had fallen out (who keeps an old crown) The next one was so painful from the time it was put on, as he NEVER adjusted the margins, had to be replaced, and I had to get a dental implant. FYI, my insurance wouldn't cover a tooth that had been worked on within the last 2 years. The worst dentist ever. read more

My husband and I went to Dr. Briney. He had a root canal and crown put on. After 6+ months of constantly going back in with major discomfort, Dr. Briney figured out he had developed an infection from an ill fitting crown (made in his office). He re-made it and treated him for his infection. Fast forward to now, still in pain, we went to a different dentist, we were told Dr. Britney's crown is garbage and now we're going to need to start all over. Needless to say, I would not recommend this dentist, we spent thousands, had dozens of appointments to try and fix the botch work and now we're starting from scratch, elsewhere. read more

A decade ago, I visited Dr Briney and was advised I needed a tooth pulled. He pulled the tooth, but did NOT thoroughly investgate and clean the vacated area. A small chunk of tooth was left inside. I did not know, as I was full of Novacain. As it wore off, and I changed the cotton in my mouth, the bleeding had not stopped. It was late in the day so I decided to go first thing in the AM. In the AM, I was sick from swallowing so much blood. He put me in the chair and started to investigate, with no injection, and he scraped a raw nerve ! I literally jumped out of the chair. And almost punched him. He was not sorry for this accident, showed no concern, nor his sloppy work from the day before. I was reminded of a movie I saw with a sadistic dentist.
