This is the worst hospital I have ever been in. We are 12 days in and transferring to a different hospital because of this terrible experience. It is a revolving door of medical professionals. Although many are "nice" or "knowledgeable" you never see the same person twice and no one knows what is going on. My husband had a test run on him that was a "mistake" only figured out when they scanned his wristband. The wait time is hours upon hours. Even one of the doctors we met with said this to us and mentioned how awful the wait time is. As I mentioned, the individuals who work at the hospital are not to blame for this review. When you get to speak with someone, they are kind and extremely knowledgeable. The problem is the way in which the hospital is run. I'm assuming these (wonderful) medical professionals are overloaded. There is no consistency in who you see. We have been there over the course of 12 days and not seen the same dr. twice. Regarding Danbury Hospital Emergency Room: If you need urgent care, you probably won't get it here! I went to this "Emergency" care facility experiencing chest pains. They gave me an EKG and took several vials of blood. I then sat in the waiting area FOR FOUR HOURS, and nobody bothered to let me know the results of tests, or give me any information regarding my issues. In contrast to my wonderful experience at Yale-New Haven hospital, where everone with whom I came in contact introduced themselves, informed me of their job title or job description, and told me what they were doing and why they were doing it. This was not my first disappointing experience at Danbury hospital. read more

We have been waiting hours in the waiting room with none coming to tend to my mom whose breathing is getting worse. We both have asthma (I'm also here to be seen for the same reason) and she has COPD on top of that. None of our medication has helped up at home. She hasn't even received a nebulizer treatment to help. We've announced her struggle multiple times. This place should be shut down. Best believe I WILL be suing if she does. read more

Great hospital. I had septic shock and was in a coma for 3 weeks and the emergency room staff and the doctors and nurses in the ICU saved my life! They were very attentive and caring. I had kidney failure as a result and I've had to be admitted several times. I have never had a single complaint. I also had my gallbladder removed and a chest tube placed. The surgery team was great, with the exception of one surgeon. But all the other nurses and doctors are very attentive and caring. Went to the E.R. with symptoms in line with a cardiac event. Some basic tests were done, I never saw a doctor, and was told by a rude arrogant P.A. that the issue was most likely related to "my head". I decided to get a second opinion from another doctor from a hospital in Bridgeport who recommended another test and sure enough with that one test they found a coronary issue which required me to go thru cardiac surgery two days ago. To the P.A. I delt with in the E.R. so it was in my head. I think he should find a new line of work. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if it were possible. This place is an absolute JOKE. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is done right or with care and compassion. They treat you like a criminal for even carrying a vape in there. Apparently because I had a vape and a pocket knife on me, it warranted searching ALL persons that enter the hospital to visit her. Including my 12 and 14 year old daughters. What they would have, I have no clue. It would also take them about a 1/2 and hour to 45 minutes to even have a security guard come down to search everyone. Then, once they know you're a vaper, God forbid, they search your room obsessively. They were treating my wife and my self like cocaine dealers just because I had a vape on me. Which by the way I gave to security every single day because they are not allowed to be anywhere near a patient? My wife has no legs and the genius guards would search the couch like she could walk over there. And by the way they banned me from even seeing my wife because I had a pocket knife in my backpack and they felt "threatened" by my behavior. My 10 year old granddaughter spent over 4 hours in the ER waiting to be seen. When I checked her in they were told she had a possible ruptured appendex.. This was totally unacceptable. The worst place on the planet! Some of the staff are great but others don't have a clue. Malpractice is a daily concern here and this place should be avoided at all costs. They never let you sleep more than 4 hours so they can take your vitals to justify their job. Double dosed me on meds one night. I couldn't wait to be paroled and I would rather die than go back! In a follow up with the infectious disease Dr .Who I was already working with and recommended I go to the hospital since it was after hours .He confirmed the hospital did not swab the infection but I had two outbreaks since and luckily was able to see my dr.I have MRSA They refused to believe me and this is why you can get MRSA in a hospital . read more

My Mom went for heart surgery. The surgeon did a great job but someone didn't follow protocol and gave her several infections. She died about 10 days later. The ICU nurse T.M. Complained about overworking and was not compassionate or caring. Resp. Therapy young girl unprofessional, I worked in Health care and know protocol not followed. I would have sued the hospital but your life is valued by your age believe it or not so when you are over 80 they look at how many years you would have had...I heard they since have made changes, my Mom passed Dec 2014, I sure hope so. read more

So I came here because my brother had to bring my father to the emergency room. After an hour drive, I arrived and easily found parking in the garage. The ER from the way I came in not so easy to find, had to take the elevator to the 6th. FL. They do have parking right outside the ER but that line was blocked when I arrived. Anyway once I arrived at the ER I went to the security/greeter and received a pass to go to my fathers' room. The greeter was very friendly, the type to put you at ease. My father's nurse was also nice and she checked to make sure he was okay but also checked that I was okay. My father was being transferred to Yale as that's where his transplant team is and the doctor here made sure to explain everything in detail down to the traffic in between the two hospitals (it's about an hour drive) Danbury to New Heaven. When the paramedics arrived they watched introduced themselves and went over what to expect as to travel time and when they arrive. They had his tone number and wanted to know if anyone wanted to ride with him but I had my car. Last but not least the areas I was in was very clean even the visitors' restroom in the emergency room area. There is also a nice few nice waiting areas if you want a little privacy away from the large (also decent) waiting area. read more

On February 2, 2024. My 80 year old mom came by ambulance to the danbury hospital ED department . After a few minutes sitting with my mom , I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Being that I've been to that hospital before, I knew they have a waiting room directly outside the ED Department . I told my mom's nurse, I'm just going to sitting in your waiting room and come back later. The pictures I've uploaded, so you could see, how the waiting room was at 12:30 am on a Friday night, surprisingly very empty. I proceeded to sit in the red chair. I placed my water canister on the round table beside me. I pulled out my phone. At the same time a hospital personnel stopped, and asked me "if I was a patient there.? " I said no. She then proceeded to ask me if I was waiting for someone.? I said yes my mom, she's in Bed 14., I just came out to clear my head. I thought that was the end. She CHOSE to escalate it further . She rudely said " Well you cannot be here". I was confused, so I asked her, why not? She stated this area we used to "triage the kids" . I said" you triage kids in waiting rooms ? " She said " we sometimes use this room so that the kids could sit" . Ok, then I proceeded to ask her. Do you have kids who need to sit here now ? She said " not now, but we might later" " OK, but this is a waiting room correct? " I Explained, is there a rule stating that somewhere , because the sign over there said waiting room. At this very same time another person approached " she said "I'm the nurse here" And she stated the reason why she's asking is that she doesn't know who you are? I then said "who do you think I am?" do you guys usually get people who come in off the streets,, get buzzed in by security, and to hang out in your waiting room in the ED department on a Friday night? That what's been happening here? Or Would you assume, that I'm here with a patient? I'm quietly sitting and the assumption is what really? I proceeded to tell them, your approach is really rude. Someone is sitting in a waiting room in the emergency department and your first reaction is to try to kick them out. You don't knowing their circumstance, or what they're going through at the moment", but this is the way you both feel is an appropriate behavior? I then told them both I am choosing not to engage any further. I proceeded to ask them for both their names so I can make a formal complaint . They both walked away from me. Then the first one threaten me by saying "you continue to sit there". I'm going to call the hospital police , they will make you leave . (The Weaponization of the police) . Thank God! The officer who responded was the first person I spoke with when I arrived. Three additional officers responded. Plus a charge nurse, stating. I wouldn't identify myself.. "They never asked me for any identification". He started when I refused to continue with the conversation, with the second person, that was me refusing to identify myself .. Wow! let's go with that spin, "I said "you're absolutely right" their behavior was absolutely my fault, by me deciding not to continue, with escalating the situation any further, by me sitting in an empty waiting room quietly, to gather my thoughts,. warranted the weaponization of Hospital police. So the plan was to get the Hospital police to drag me out of an empty waiting room.? to embarrass me correct that's what you guys do for the family members here? He said this is usually not the area that people wait because it's off the Pediatric department . And then I explained, I came to clear my head. I saw the plaque that said waiting room. I didn't see any additional rules and regulations listed here. (The Hospital police captain said he understood the situation) The hospital police were the only ones who said I understand . They perceived to tell me I can sit here for as long as I need. Very interesting , The charged nurse now double down by saying, because I didn't identify myself, that was why security was called . I explained to him it escalated, because I asked them both for their names. And if they ask me for identification, just like I presented it to the security before entering here, I would've been more than happy to do the same. read more

Quality of care was terrible on the floor. I found the staff very disrespectful and inconsiderate. Totally unprofessional. I had a horrible experience there AND I was a previous employee for 15 years. I would definitely look somewhere else for good professional health care. However Dr Orlina saved my life, when the on-call surgeon ignored my acute appendicitis. She stepped in !!!! I highly recommend her she's a fantastic and extremely skilled surgeon. But the hospital itself is terrible. read more

From the emergency room visit to the ambulatory discharge, these folks were caring and efficient. My ER nurse Cindy was compassionate and on the ball getting me the tests I needed so the doctor could diagnose me. My ER Dr. Soltis had a caing bedside manner while giving my diagnosis in clear and understandable language. Duracell Ambulatory was easy to navigate and everyone I encountered was friendly and professional. Kara (sorry if misspelled, no glasses) was great from start to finish. Professional, caring and completely put me ad ease. If you have to go to a hospital, this is the one to go to. read more

Nurses were understaffed and overworked. They tried to provide a good level of care but high patient caseloads prevented timely administration of medications. In our experience running nursing staff like a business leaves patient care lacking. Shocked to find a notice stating to call the team to have linens changed. I wonder how a patient on bed rest can find this notice (on a sharps container) and be able to negotiate this. read more

I had surgery at Danbury Hospital in 2009. I was pretty well taken care of. However, post surgery I was left in a recovery area without a nurse for a long time, with a lot of other patients, and I got the shakes/shivers. Later, I was crammed two people in a single room. Not so much fun if you have to use a bed pan while your roommate has visitors. I stayed 3 nights and LPNs attended to my hygiene. RNs checked on me regularly. I returned 5 years later for similar surgery hoping to get at least the same level of care. Instead, there were fewer caretakers overall and every one dropped down a notch. Instead of 3 nurses, there was one. Instead of RNs there were LPNs. Instead of LPNs there were CNAs. No one was available for hygiene. Pain management was by a PA not an MD. I believe the PA caused ototoxicity and tinnitus. In contrast, at the time DH was hyping that there was food on demand from the cafeteria. Ok. I had similar surgery about 2 years ago at HSS in Stamford and there is absolutely no comparison. It was even during the pandemic, and they used the highest level of care from the moment I went for my first consult. I had a nurse with me the entire time including post procedure up until I was settled in my room. There is no excuse for Danbury Hospital to operate so much on the cheap. Yelp says average wait time in the emergency room is 19 minutes. Wrong. How about 2-3 hours? The emergency room wait is a disgrace to this otherwise fine hospital. They need to figure out the intake process and streamline the triage area. We waited literally 3 hours before seeing a triage nurse and another hour and a half to get inside to a room. That's entirely unacceptable. Once inside however, we were treated wonderfully, with great thoroughness and efficiency. Maybe they should hire me as a consultant to sort out the inefficiencies and bottlenecks causing these delays. read more

If zero stars were possible thats what I would give this place. I went to the ER in June of 2020 with a head injury and presented my insurance card at the time of service. In September, I received a bill from the hospital for $204 which I paid and the check was cashed. I received no other communication from the hospital. About 2 months ago I got an email alert that my credit score had changed. I suddenly had a 5k charge off froM the hospital. I called to try and figure out why my insurance hadnt been billed and was informed they had entered in the wrong information. Danbury billing has hung up on me any time I have attempted to call and rectify this issue and ask to have the bill negotiated since it was their error. This place is horrible. Another important note: i was bleeding heavily from a head laceration. I used the restroom in the ER after waiting in a room for about an hour. Because the wound hadnt been tended to, I bled all over the restroom sink, floor and toilet. I told a nurse as soon as I exited the bathroom that I had bled everywhere. About 90min. Later my boyfriend went to the bathroom and the blood was still everywhere. HE cleaned it up! A LITERAL BIOHAZARD. read more

Had a scheduled heart ablation performed a week ago and spent overnight in hospital recovering. So far the procedure appears to be successful. Heart rhythm is back to normal and my energy level has increased noticeably. I found the entire staff (Doctors, RNs, PAs, prep staff, operating staff, anesthesiologist) to be excellent - caring and competent. The procedure was painless. The chicken dinner was not the greatest. I would suggest: Do your homework, arrive early, follow instructions, treat everyone with respect. I emphasize - although you are anxious, concentrate on treating everyone with gratitude and respect. It will help to keep you calm. Best wishes for your recovery and God bless. read more

Danbury hospital emergency room is absolutely horrible and my family has PTSD from dealing with what we had gone through .my daughter had gone in to be seen for a serious issue and once we were called to the back the nurse immediately had a very bad attitude, she appear angry and frustrated ( not my daughters fault)my daughter was in tremendous pain however still managed to remain calm . The assistants were all outside our room laughing and being extremely unprofessional. I went to open the door and the nurse grabbed it and tried shutting it on us . There's more to this story but to get to the most unsettling part was that they gave my daughter a medication she had a bad reaction to and the nurse refused to help her ! I swear this is the truth ! the nurse wouldn't help my daughter , I was in tears not knowing what to do so I asked for help ( no help came) the doctor was near by and looked aggravated with his staff and said loudly Just give her the medicine!! My daughter just needed something to reverse the symptoms . Finally after so long they gave it to her but didn't want to . I ended getting kicked out told to leave and for what? I never once lost my cool just was upset and looking for help . There was a women said her husband was in charge and he could help just tell her what's going on , she never helped! I will never ever recommend this hospital for emergency care as we are still dealing with the anxiety of what we went through.my daughter was treated terribly and i never want to see that happen to anyone. read more

so this is my personal experience last week at Danberry Hospital. First it started off at another facility where they decided that I had to go to Danbury hospital for a taper of a certain medication. Which was fine they said that I could come back the next day, which was total BS. after going through the ED and getting upstairs to the ninth floor, everything started off OK until come to find out that the nurses decided that I personally did not need Benadryl because they thought that I was drowsy enough during the day so they told the Doctor Who prescribed it that I refuse the medication. I didn't even know that it was prescribed first of all. So when the doctor asked me why I was refusing it, I really didn't know what to say other than I remembered, when the shift change came a couple days ago, the two nurses were discussing my case and in a lower tone the one stated that she didn't think that I needed it because I seemed drowsy during the day. Well no crap. Every patient probably is with a nurse or phlebotomist or house keeping or god knows whom else. I understand they need your vitals every four hours or whatever is asked but can't they have the same nurse for the two people in the same room and have things take place at the same time? They just about have zero respect for your sleep/rest as they bust in , turn on all the lights, talk as if you're across a busy road then when you ask to shut them off and close the door on the way out? Oops must've forgot. Don't forget about the hospital at full volume at the nurses station five feet away. FYI. We don't give any Fs about same and that he is a Danbury cop and is 6'7". So to keep this as run on as possible now comes discharge ( match 19,2024). I ask my current nurse at the time (Ryan) , very nice and actually gave me the doctor prescribed meds without lying, for the clothes and shoes I came into the ED with. He walks out, comes back a few minutes later and says my intake sheet says I came in with only my glasses. Yes. Only glasses. No clothes. No shoes. Nothing. Incompetence at its finest. I literally came with scrubs. Shoes. Glasses and I believe that's all. So when my ride was there at noon I got to take the elevator down in a hospital gown with my butt hanging out, my back showing and only the yellow socks they provided me ( which im sure are billed at around $199). when I made it home I called the hospital only to be met with a snotty lady on the other line from the ED who said she could do literally nothing and I'd have to talk to security and transferEd me. The gentleman I talked to was nice, I gave him my info as he asked and have not received any information back as of now. I absolutely cringe anytime I need to go to an ER . I had a procedure two days prior and was very uncomfortable. Dr Robert Soltis is a superhero !! ER is horrible. Front desk staff are rude and unhelpful. After waiting 5 hours for a bleeding gash on face, we tried to leave but told we would be charged for triage even though we were never seen. There were people in excruciating pain sitting for hours. One elderly woman went through multiple oxygen tanks and was still there 5 hours later. We went in at 11:08pm, my adult son having arm pain and shortness of breath, dizzy, and we'd taken his blood pressure at home: 170/120. Pretty high. The waiting room was FULL of patients. He gets triaged and they take a blood sample. Sent us out into the waiting room. By about 3am there is only my son and one other lady in the waiting room. They'd taken about 40+ people in. We saw some people arrive, be seen, leave (and they didn't appear critical or bloodied or anything) At 5am my son again feels his heart racing and gets scared so I go to the window and ask can someone please check my son right now, he thinks he's about to have a heart attack or a stroke or something. She leaves to speak to the triage nurse and comes back and says the nurse is busy with a patient but will see him right afterwards. That nurse's door opened and she called out to some other patient. That patient went in, came out a while later. Then she calls in yet some other person who had wandered in. And then another. And then a fourth one. All while my son fears he's about to have a stroke and his arms are tingling. It's now 5:30am so we just left. I told him you'll get more actual help if you feel like you need to call an ambulance from home at least they won't let you just drop dead not being seen for 6 1/2 hours.
