3 generations started with Elsa Zoll, ballerina with incredible tenacity. Her life with dance began in a Japanese concentration camp. The teacher was a dancer that taught out of a wheel chair. Elsa immediately loved ballet. Her life became dance. Her mother was a brilliant musician and passed her craft onto her daughter. Everything they endeavored, they spent countless hours and extreme dedication to reach perfection. Elsa also loves people. She went out in weaverville ca and rounded up interested students and started her school using gymnasiums and open buildings to bring students together. She taught ballet and became a popular feature in weaverville. She brought her industrious nature and family of six to Redding to open her first school. She was always training and attending master classes all over the state to bring the best to her students. I was one of her students and her daughters good friend. She impressed me from a young age at her ability to teach well and to pass the gift to her children. Her children are some of the most industrious folk I know. The love of dance and teaching dance in her family was evident and they all learned tap and jazz and could choreograph big groups and small groups and solos. The passion coming from the family drove them to be "the place to go."I took my babies to mommy and me classes and from there, they grew up in that studio. My youngest daughter won countless competitions and at 38 years old has a lucrative business in dance and choreography. She's worked for big named people and is well known in the business. She's passed along her dance education to many others that are very successful. She has to attribute success to Yvonne, Elsa and the many quality people they vetted and hired to teach in their studio. It started great and then we started seeing random charges in our account and were given no explanation. The teachers never stag consistent and change all the time and the last teacher we had would yell and manhandle the kids who were all 6-8-year-olds. I just can't say enough about our granddaughter's experience with Dance Depot. She is soon to be 10, and started with Dance Depot when she was 3. Miss Yvonna, Miss Natasha, and all of the instructors go above and beyond. The twice yearly performances are topnotch- but here's the thing... while their emphasis is on dance and expression, they truly care about every dancer that comes through their doors. Yvonna, I'd like to start by reminding you that we had enjoyed your class for some time, that is not the matter at hand to be discussed but rather the experience we had with your instructor, Natasha. As mentioned before, we are extremely disappointed with the way Kora's enrollment was handled. After speaking with you and getting the go-ahead to enroll Kora in a more advanced class, we felt confident in the decision to do so. To have her then treated in a way that felt cold and very short of the "family friendly" establishment you advertise has since left us questioning the ability and client-care of the Dance Depot studio. I appreciate your concern for our daughters love of dance, but rest assured, she is a vibrant little lady who still loves the art of dance. As we both know, she can be shy at times and dance is an outlet that has helped her flourish is all aspects of her life. For my young daughter to express she is feeling "left out" and "sad" when taking a class is not a reflection on her character or her ability to dance, but rather the lack of care, communication and protocols set in place by your establishment. Kora is a young child and does not need to be fighting for her right to be treated as an equal in a class we were told she was ready for. Please take our experience as a learning opportunity to establish proper protocols between your instructors and self; to discuss these types of issues that are bound to come up when running a multi-level dance studio. This is a great studio! Professional and clean, yes the owner Yvonna brings her adorable dog to work with her. Yvonnas daughter Natasha brings her awesome children to the studio, they take classes too. This studio was founded by family and generation after generation has carried on this wonderful passion for dance and teaching. They care about building self esteem and helping dancers succeed. The staff is quick and responsive to address questions and welcomes suggestions to make the studio a place everyone feels comfortable. Whether you are looking for challenging classes for your advanced dancer or something fun for your toddler just starting out, you will find many options for both at Dance Depot. The studio is always full of life. The staff and all the dancers are like a very big family. They truly care about each dancer. The spacious waiting rooms are often full of laughing children and chatting parents. Occasionally even one of the sweet little dogs are waiting to greet the children. You can also observe the classes at any time either through the observation windows or watching one of the 4 giant screens displaying each class. All you have to do is watch one of the recitals to realize how amazing all of the staff are. We feel blessed to be part of such a great dance studio! read more

Our family highly recommends Dance Depot. We ALL (yes, even Dad) have taken classes over the past 5 years; ballet, jazz, tap, boys hip hop (a must try!!) and many of the adult classes. Sarah at the front is always able to answer questions or find out whatever it is that you need. The recitals are incredibly organized. The teachers are knowledgable, fun, keep the classes under control, and are easy to talk to about any concerns. If you are looking for a great dance studio you have found it! Great place to take your kids who love to dance, however their dog policy along with bringing their children to work is not desirable. The owners bring their dog and allow others to bring theirs. Great for dog lovers, but not so much when the place smells like dog. Also not interested in someone's dog licking my feet. They also bring their children/grandchildren (it's mother/daughter ran). The children are loud and obnoxious. I come to watch my children not lost to watch theirs whine. After working all day I don't want to babysit their kids who are left to do as they please. I would definitely reconsider joining this unless this sounds fun to you. read more

I would like to start by saying I am not one of those mothers who thinks my child can do no wrong. But my experience at dance depot was not a good one. I signed my 2 1/2 year old up for a dance class that states it is to "introduce " them to dance. On my daughters 4th half hour class she was brought out by the teachers helper crying and thrust into the mom next to me arms as I said "that's my kid" and told "she is having trouble listening" I talked to my daughter and explained to her that she needs to listen to the teacher and follow directions. She went back into class apologized to the teacher I then watched her be very well behaved for the rest of the class. When she came out all the children had stickers ( they give them at the end of class to all the kids) she was the only kid without one. The teacher came out and told me that she would "give her another time or two, but she needs to listen better or she is just a distraction to the other children" she also asked if she was not minding at home and had she taken a nap , basically questioning my parenting skills, that is the conversation condensed. I had been watching my daughter on the screen during all her classes and she did NOTHING that at least a quarter or the other children didn't do as well such as stepping out of line or being distracted as you would expect from a group of 2 and 3 year olds. I was told this is a family friendly dance company and have several family members children who go here and yet my child was singled out for being a TWO YEAR OLD. I am beyond upset with how my daughter was treated and I will not go back. In my opinion you should not have a toddler class and expect them to be perfect all of the time, my daughter was not running around crazy, hitting it being disruptive. She was simply being a toddler who is just LEARNING how to line up how to sit still all things that take practice. read more

Sharon L's review is largely misleading. Yes, this is a great place to take a dance class. The owner has a 5 lb lap dog that, if it isn't sleeping, stays on the heals of its owner. The building is newly remodeled and doesn't smell like dogs. The studio has probably hundreds of students, many of them are kids. It isn't reasonable to think a place like a dance studio would be somewhere to escape children. I would recommend visiting this dance studio if your are considering taking classes. read more

Dance Depot from a mom to nana's eyes. In 1981, my daughter and her cousin enrolled in Elsa's School of Dance. Elsa, the owner, was amazing she taught my girls the fundamentals of dance and the joy, creativity, and excitement of preforming. Our girls danced with Elsa until we moved from the area. The years have flown by and I have moved back to Redding. When my two year old grand daughter wanted to learn to dance, we looked into the various dance schools and we chose Dance Depot. This nana was so excited when we realized that Elsa's daughter Yvonna continues in her mother's footsteps through Dance Depot. Dance Depot is truly an awesome experience f or young and old alike. My granddaughter has been given the same fundamentals in ballet and tap as my daughter. Dance Depot's professional instructors love dance, they love to teach even the smallest wee ones to advanced dancers. Watching the dancer's progression from the beginning body positions, to learning dance steps, to be able dance with confidence on the big stage. The staff makes their end of the year performance magical. From professional photography to the grand finale it is a dancers dream come true. read more
