The seats are extremely uncomfortable, the shows are decent and the prices are good compared to larger venues. The parking can be a hassle if you're not there super early, the lot fills up fast and then you're stuck either parking half a mile away in the municipal parking lot or fighting for street parking. There is one single bar and there is constantly a line.

The first several classes were a learning experience for our young granddaughter. She initially enjoyed the classes but with every week that passed the class teacher seemed to become increasingly agitated with our young granddaughter and didn't seem to have the patience for this age group. our granddaughter was to my knowledge one of the youngest participants in the class and did require redirection during class to ensure all the children's safety (she would run around enjoying herself) on our last day we attended our granddaughter was running a muck and Miss Angie held her hand to redirect her and our granddaughter pulled away crying and was told to matter a fact to leave. She ran out of the dance studio in tears. I get it safety is # 1 priority. But she was already leaving the statement from the teacher of "leave then" was uncalled for and made her not want to come back to dance which breaks my heart because the teacher has surpassed her tolerance for this age group. Very sad experience

Restrooms are outside just a short walk from main entrance. Ticket booth center of building on the outside, single window so plan accordingly. There was only one person ahead of me on arrival about 20 minutes prior to the show to pick up my ticket. Very friendly staff, quickly directed to my seat with ease. Seats are a little aged, but this is also a historic place to enjoy shows. Had clear stage with single level angled seating arrangement. Concessions had a good little variety of drinks and snacks to choose from (no cash, card only). Glad I was able to catch a show in this historic venue!

The facility and property has been well maintained. The new ownership and staff working were very outgoing and kind and helpful. I think the lady serving the liquor was part of the ownership or management. Very nice and welcoming. They are going to be showing Hocus Pocus, classic 90s Halloween film this season. Along w Rocky Horror Picture show and other classics from the golden era of film. Horror movies like Halloween or Friday the 13th would be great as well. It's a great and perfect throwback to yesteryear with the layout and how they do things. The owner said they do trivia and Cuban dance lessons among other fun events there. It's really a great find and I wish more towns had these small local joints where it's intimate and fun and a great experience. The burlesque show was awesome. All the woman were attractive and the show was great. My first ever. Looking forward to my next visit at the Strand. A great spot when in Dover to visit.

What a great little theater. While visiting town I wandered by the hall and noticed they had a free…read moreshowing of Shuffle, a really good documentary, later that evening. I was able to get my ticket online. When I showed up for the film, I was surprised to learn that building opened in 1878 and still has so much character. The theater is beautiful and even the lobby and restrooms are unique. All of the staff was helpful and friendly as well. It holds about 900 people, so I imagine it'd be great for a concert as well. I sat 10th row, center and had a perfect view of the screen. The sound was solid as well, but don't expect IMAX or anything like that. I'm glad I popped in. I don't know if I'll ever be in Portsmouth again but if I am, I'd happily stop in again for a show or film.

I started my dance career at this local studio and received somewhat decent training until another…read moremale joined the studio a few years later. The staff is known to play favorites, has no problem singling out dancers that they do not take to, and have little to no teaching credentials. Due to this I made the decision to switch to Fusion Dance Academy, and since my decision, have been PUBLICLY harassed by staff members not only once, BUT TWICE, (one time including my work place.) Absolutely WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Twenty years or more ago when we were in Maine we happened on a performance by Maine based pianist…read morePaul Sullivan. It was at the now defunct Damariscotta Performing Arts Center, housed in a converted barn still faintly redolent of pigeons. We learned about the performance on a now defunct local radio station, WAVX and bought tickets. It was a rainy night and we had a short drive back to the B&B where we were staying in Wiscasset. The concert was wonderful and we bought all 5 of his CDs, which we continue to enjoy. We are planning a trip back to Maine the end of August. Today I received an email from Paul Sullivan about summer concerts he will be performing. The final one will be September 6th, in Ogunquit, where we will be staying. We were due to leave Ogunquit that day for Rockport, but have rearranged our schedule so we can attend the concert that night and move to Rockport the next day. I bought a couple of tickets online via the Ogunquit Performing Arts website. The process was easy and prices were extremely reasonable. We are looking forward to this treat.
