I was out for an event earlier in the evening and decided to check to see what else was going on that night. They have a full calendar of events throughout the month but this one is held the 2nd Saturday of each month. You do not have to be a student here and you don't have to be the best dancer, but you should be open to learning and enjoying dancing. I appreciated that the dance lesson allowed everyone to be involved even if you came alone, as everyone lined up and switched partners throughout the lesson prior to the dancing portion. Most of the other attendees were very nice and willing to have fun, which I appreciated. The studio is a lot larger than one would think from the store front and it was very clean. They had pizza, snacks and candy that was included in the price, as well as a cash bar. They accept cash and digital payments (like Apple/Android Pay). There aren't many night clubs in the area, but this had the feel of a local club when the lights went down and everyone began to dance the night away! I hope to attend again soon and some other events; they even had me considering taking classes.

I kept stumbling with my turns so he went out of his way during the lesson to work with me on them. After an hour lesson, the dance floor opened up until 2am to a spicy mix of salsa and bachata songs! As a first-timer I felt shy and sat in a corner but everyone (even the elite) were so friendly and continually asked me to dance (and taught me steps along the way)! I tend to be very uncomfortable when it comes to physical contact but dancing with everyone felt rather natural! Such a lovely experience- If I lived in or near Philly I would take classes here in a heartbeat. Will definitely be back for more salsa nights!

We were 20 minutes late…read more(to a 60-minute class....oops) but the academy was extremely accomodating and we just jumped right into the leason! Our instructor was pleasant and patient, and we had a great time learning basic salsa moves!! The other people in the drop-in class were two other couples...so be warned as that generally seems the norm for classes. I think the academy also does "salsa parties" which are more free practice sessions. The time flew by, and we were encouraged to videotape the last 5 minutes of the instructor giving an overview of what we had learned, so we could come back after practicing on our own! Will definitely come back to use up the rest of our livingsocials....hopefully the classes aren't too repetitive so we'll see!

Big dance schools like to hold you back & put everyone into a single curricular mold. I was always bored and wanting more. All the other staff members & students here are knowledgeable and welcoming as well. Socials and practice parties are an added bonus. I've always loved Salsa, but now my interest in Bachata has been piqued as well. Do yourself a favor and try Sensual Bachata! Julie is a particularly great coach! She is always pushing and challenging me. Even when I am not sure of my abilities, she strives to get more out of me. This personalization is what I've always wanted and that other schools are lacking. In addition to the dance instruction, Julie is a blast to work with and we laugh the entire lesson. I'm learning so much, getting in a great workout, and having a great time while doing it! I highly recommend Salsa in the Suburbs and all it has to offer for your dancing desires.

I'd been to classes at another venue before, and while I enjoyed those classes, I do appreciate the different levels they have at Salsa in the Suburbs. They structure the classes well so that you can put together a routine by the time you finish up a course. The instructors are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. We went to one of the later classes in the series, so we needed some clarification on a part of the routine that we had missed in prior classes. One of the instructors, Craig, was great about showing us what we had missed and helping us both get it right. He didn't just show us what we had asked about; he asked us to do the entire routine to make sure we understood it all, which was great. I'm looking forward to attending the rest of the classes in this series as well as the higher-level classes.

Sergei is the man!!!!!! We absolutely LOVED working with Sergei every week. It was so sad when our…read moretime was over and we didn't get to spend our weekly visits with him! I surprised my husband by getting a Groupon for Fred Astaire. I had been reading all of the brides saying how choreographing their first dance was one of the best decisions they made. I figured we could try out a lesson with the Groupon and decide if we wanted to fully commit or not. If worse came to worse, I figured we had fun taking a couple of lessons. Of course we loved our first appointment with Sergei and immediately booked our weekly sessions with him! We procrastinated a bit so we started about two months out from our wedding. When I called she kindly told me that we better get moving if we wanted to be ready for our wedding day. lol. We were looking to merge two songs together into one dance. We gave Sergei the time stamps of the songs and he arranged a beautiful dance for us with the perfect blend of both songs. We worked hard week after week and felt like contestants on dancing with the stars. Once Sergei suggested we video ourselves and watch it in between visits, it made a huge difference! It was very difficult remembering if we were doing the steps correctly just from our memory. We continued to add on new sections week after week until we finally put everything together. The week leading up to our wedding we did a practice run in front of everyone at the studio that night. It was very stressful with everyone watching us but fun. The whole idea is to get you used to people watching you perform the dance. I really wanted Sergei to be there on our wedding night like you would see your childhood dance instructor on the side of the stage at your dance recital. lol. He was there in spirit! My husband had a heart attack when he saw how ginormous my wedding gown was. He said, "how are we going to do this with this dress?!?!?!" I told him that I showed Sergei from the beginning and that we should be able to make it happen! lol I think we did Sergei proud! If it wasn't for COVID, we could have gone to show him our video by now! The studio itself is clean and spacious. There is TONS of parking. They have large open windows so you can see directly into the studio, which is fine. There are wall to wall mirrors where you are practicing. The bathrooms are clean. They have places for you to keep your things while you are dancing. You are practicing on the dance floor simultaneously with other dancers and their instructors. If you book the same time slot you are likely to see the same people week to week. That was our experience and we were able to meet new people that were all very kind and friendly. They even acknowledged both of our birthdays! They hug you hello and goodbye and it really feels like a family! We highly recommend Fred Astaire Dance Studio. They are all extremely professional and hard-working. Many of them (if not all of them) are still traveling for dance competitions themselves and have won many awards! They are excellent teachers! It's pretty easy to find a session that works with your schedule. They also work with you to pay for your lessons as you go versus having to pay one lump sum when you sign your contract. They put the music together for you and create a dance perfect for you and your dance partner. Sergei was kind, patient and professional as he worked with us to be the best dancers we could be. While there is a competitive dance team that students can audition for, the week-to-week class focus is on learning and dancing. We've tried other schools in the past and I usually end up feeling like the kids spend the whole year planning for a huge, expensive, loooong recital. Here, the year ends with a dance showcase that is warm and friendly and reasonably priced to attend and to participate in (no expensive costumes that your kids will only wear once). We had my son's sixth birthday party here this past weekend and it was an amazing party. Tony, the party coordinator, was amazing and didn't leave any stone unturned! He had great ideas on decorating the room and allowed us to bring in some of our own food and decorations.
