My wife and I recently stayed the Dancing Coyote Beach Cottages and although we generally enjoyed our vacation, it was substantially marred by the infestation of mosquitos in our room. We diligently kept the windows and doors closed during our stay, but we woke up the next morning with at least 20 bites between the two of us. The buzzing in our ears woke us up too. Suffice to say, we did not stay the additional night and left early. I highly recommend the owners take steps to eliminate this problem. I cannot recommend this place to friends and co-workers. read more

California Trip Part 2 #8 During my first trip to California, I planned to visit Point Reyes, but time got away from me. So, I knew it was top on my list on the second time around. In order to see at least a small amount of the area, I decided to book for one night lodging in Inverness. Dancing Coyote Beach Cottages (DCBC) ended up being my favorite spot during this trip. Birch Cottage was the only one available when I booked online. It was a bit big for just one person, but I fell in love instantly--and I didn't want to leave! The décor of the cottage was extremely welcoming with the warm colors, comfortable furniture and gorgeous views. What I loved the most was the side patio off the kitchen. It was so relaxing with a cup of tea and watching the birds. One of the best benefits of DCBC is the free breakfast. The kitchen was stocked full of fresh, local eggs, yogurt, butter, jam, juice, milk, granola, coffee, teas--just to name a few. I found more items in the pantry such as instant oatmeal. I picked up some fresh sourdough bread in town and made one of the best meals I've ever had at my cottage. I made scrambled eggs and toast with blueberry jam. Delicious! My bed was quite comfortable as well as the pillows. I was glad that I brought along a fan, however. Most of my stay was full of peace and quiet--right until I started to fall asleep. That was when my neighbors arrived. Their young children ran around the deck, which was right outside my window, and running up and down the stairs. Luckily, it didn't last too long, and I slept very well that night. I would highly recommend DCBC for anyone looking to visit Point Reyes. It's in a perfect location and allowed me to go hiking and see the sights. I found their prices to be reasonable especially if you have two people. DCB is the BEST! I'm a returning guest - just stayed in Beach for three nights, after an all-too-long pandemic hiatus. The cottages and gardens are better than ever, and no detail goes unchecked. (Just wait til' you sink into that Coyuchi bedding!) Being right on the water is so relaxing, even the fog stayed at bay, we enjoyed lounging on the deck from sun up to moon up. A mere 20 minutes drive and we were at the INCREDIBLE Point Reyes hike one day, and the next day - toodling around Point Reyes station for lunch and shopping. (Again, with the Coyuchi.) This place was all it's cracked up to be!! I stayed in Skye for two nights, as a solo getaway/retreat. There are so many amazing things to go within driving distance so I did the Tomales Point trail and Coast Trail to Structure Beach -- both amazing hikes! However, when I wasn't hiking, I really didn't want to leave this adorable place. The cottage had everything I needed: a fully stocked kitchen, delicious breakfast items, and a gorgeous porch with a view and an outdoor shower with a rain shower head. I spent lots of time reading on the porch or just staring at the water from one is the vista points. The only downside was, being a single woman alone, I might have felt a little more comfortable at a typical B&B with hosts who lived on site. The wind was a little creepy and VERY loud in the middle of the night! Other than that...this place was exactly what I needed and totally affordable. read more

Okay , I must admit .. this place definitely surprised me a bit. I was very scared at first to book DCBC because of how inexpensive it was. The beach cottage was only $325 a night and I was expecting a total dingy place. Dancing cayote cottages is actually comfortable and cute! I booked 3 nights for my husband's birthday and we had a blast. The reason why I booked this place was it's prime location. It's sooo close to town and all the sights we wanted to see. It doesn't hurt either that you can see the point Reyes shipwreck from the deck, kitchen and even bedroom of the cottage. Beach cottage- Very end unit with a bigger deck.. It's not that private because other guests can still see you if they were exploring the beach area. We were lucky that most of the guest kept to themselves so we enjoyed a very serene stay! The kitchennete was tiiiiny but got the work done! They also provided calphalon nonstick pans , evoo, basil, oregano and some pantry basic stuff. If you want ketchup and other condiments make sure to bring it. They also do not provide artificial sweeteners so bring that too =) . If you're OCD about drinking tap water, please remember to bring a case of bottled water. There were 2 restaurants a few yards away from the cottages. I suggest eating at the saltwater oyster depot! Theres also a market close by .. skip this market. They didn't have anything but canned goods and their alcohol selection was no bueno. So on your way to the cottage and you're passing point Reyes station.. make sure to do all your grocery shopping there. Don't buy too much since the fridge is TINY. They also provide eggs, clover farms yogurt, 2 pieces of English muffin and some granola. The cottage does have wear and tear but it kind of gives it that rustic charm. Definitely don't expect a 4 or 5 star hotel. There's no tv .. I don't know why you would want one. There's tons of board games in the upstairs nook and tons of wild life to watch! We were having breakfast and a swarm of seals , birds and otters swam by chasing after fish? It was a super great sight to see! The shower is small but I loooved that they put a skylight right on top of it. It makes you feel like your showering outdoors! Water pressure is also very good. The only problem that we had was the bed. It was soooooooooo hard and uncomfortable. The window by the bed also did not have any curtains so that was kind of annoying when you're trying to sleep in. The pillows were also not comfortable. Lastly, if you have a sportscar I recommend driving it. My husband enjoyed driving his corvette on the windy roads. Watch out for bicyclist aka road bumbs. The cottages at Dancing Coyote Beach are wonderful! Hands down- THE best place to stay in West Marin. The beach with deck overlooking Tomales bay provides gorgeous sunrise and sunset views. Each cottage has a wood burning fireplace, which me and my dog loved (book the dog friendly cottages in advance!). Beds and linens are top quality! The kitchen is perfectly appointed with everything you need from lemon squeezer to fresh coffee beans and grinder. The knives are sharp! Every little detail is executed so well - I wouldn't stay anywhere else while visiting west Marin. read more

Really gorgeous cottage -- very well appointed, clean and with the most incredibly comfortable bed that I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping on in my life (I guess that's what a $4500 mattress is really worth!). The cottage was so comfortable - and it has a spot right there to pop a kayak into the bay to go out and battle the wind and the tide. The downside is that the noise from Sir Francis Drake is no joke - all night long, any car that went by at 90mph sounded like it was just feet from our heads. In the morning - sitting on the nice little deck off the kitchen - the noisy hipsters visiting the tourist trap abandoned boat sounded like they were right under our balcony. The sounds of traffic all around the bay really carry across the water so you constantly hear a buzzing of cars - or worse (and I cringe to say this because I am a motorcyclist) ... motorcycles. Whose idea was it to put such a busy road close to the water to ruin the peace and quiet? Terrible idea! I love the idea of Tomales Bay but... it just felt like being in the city despite being so far from it. read more

Many years later, I find myself owning an LG Tromm front loading washer - identical to the one that was at Dancing Coyote in 2010. Let me tell you, that thing makes your clothes smell! Now, the owners should probably have known this and how to fix but my claim that the linen room was leaky etc. is probably bogus. Anyway, I don't know what to think anymore so I'm upgrading this to 3-stars and will give them another shot. read more

Wow and wow -- the comfort of the compact cottage and the view out the door / window / bay. My partner and I stayed in Birch (one of the middle cottages) and had a wonderful stay. There's a fireplace in each unit and already made for you! Well appointed - think Copenhagen cottage -- and clean and comfy. We made a simple breakfast to eat on the bench over looking the bay. Perfect end to our getaway. Bonuses: Breakfast goodies in the fridge EO products in the bathroom Nice warm shower Mobile heater units in case it gets cold Tiny private beach! Can you say heaven? We stayed here in Feb, when all it did was fog over and rain. But, no problem! We stayed toasty in our little cabin, complete with fireplace and watched the rain drizzle on by.....no cell phones, no TVs or computers, the ultimate escape. When the rain lifted, we walked across the street to Vladamir's and had some tasty soup and German food. We took a walk around the beach, exploring the bay and the boats that were banked on the sand. Did I mention the out door shower? How fun is it to slightly streak across your private deck into a steaming hot, strong shower under the stars? But beware, this place is rustic at best, with our bed being up on a loft, overlooking the rest of the place, but well work it. This is a hidden gem about 90 minutes out of San Francisco. The cottages are well maintained and just adorable. The kitchen is so well stocked: they even had coffee beans, a grinder and, of course, a coffee pot. We thoroughly enjoyed the fireplace and found everything clean and fresh. The surrounding flora and fauna on Tomales Bay were just stunning: sunny when we got there, eerie fog for a bit the next morning. Don't miss the local Inverness Store, a fully stocked grocery store just a short walk from the cottages. They had every staple we needed, sold terrific sandwiches AND had every kind of liquor imaginable!!! Each cottage has a great view, so you really can't go wrong. My partner and I had a lovely stay here for our anniversary! The lodgings are super cute and comfy and have just about everything you could possibly want. We stayed in the smallest room and were still super comfy. We curled up by the fire in the evenings and went onto our private patio in the mornings to watch the sea birds. The breakfast fixings were super delicious as well! And the location was secluded, but close to a general store and Point Reyes. Even the outdoor shower was fun! It did heat up a lot in the mornings with the big windows facing east, so we couldn't sleep in too late, but there was so much to do it didn't bother me too much. read more

This is a very nice place and excellent accommodations for a weekend in the Tomales Bay and Point Reyes areas. We stayed there in the "Birch" cottage for two nights and it was a perfect daily jumping off point for hikes and meals. If you go, check out Hog Island Oyster restaurant in Marshall (BBQ Oysters: yum...) and Point Reyes hikes to Limantour Beach. The cottage was clean, cozy, comfortable and the fridge was well stocked with breakfast essentials. The kitchenette and provisions helped kickstart the day and manage our time and budget. Our hosts were very considerate and even refunded us a portion of the first night's charge due to a brief unrelated disturbance that was not at all their fault. Parking area is small but very manageable unless you are driving a large rig. read more

LOVED our stay here. We stayed in Beach cottage, which is the end unit and has the best view of the bay. I highly recommend choosing this unit if possible. The units are all adjacent to one another, so you'll have neighbors and see them fairly frequently on the property. We enjoyed watching the fog lift off the bay in the morning while enjoying English muffins and fresh eggs. It's in a great location for exploring the nearby Pointe Reyes National Seashore and Tomales Bay State Park. Remember to bring a raincoat or jacket. The temperature can easily drop 5-10 degrees or more as you approach the ocean. We grilled a couple of days and the grill was excellent. The kitchen was well-equipped. This is a good spot for a weekend getaway, especially a honeymoon or anniversary. read more

When my wife and I decided this summer to take a whole week away from work (and the kids!) Dancing Coyote Beach Cottages was our first port of call. This was our first time here, despite having stayed at great places in the Point Reyes areas many times in the last twenty years. So I was a bit worried this inn wouldn't live up to our expectations (and the website descriptions). My worries were for naught. The cottages (mis-named; but more on that later) sat in a private, partially-sheltered nook right on Tomales Bay. This was just off the main road in the short and sleepy town of Inverness. Out in front there was a large, shared deck and small beach with lovely views of the water and opposite shore. A short stroll south took us to more beach, some marshland, and picturesque fishing boat wreck. Since a north wind was blowing cold and steady during most of our stay we spent little time in these outside spots, but that made the inside all the more cozy. Kindling and firewood were already laid in the fireplace when we arrived, and the small fridge was stocked with breakfast items, including fresh, local eggs, organic yogurt and granola. After dropping off our bags and grabbing a dinner nearby, we kicked off our shoes, made some tea, and brought out the novels. It was the beginning of a fine week. DCBC provided an excellent home base for our three days in the Pt Reyes area. It was 30-40 minutes to either Stimson Beach (south), the Tule Elk Reserve (north), or the lighthouse (west) and only 10 minutes from the shops and restaurants in Point Reyes Station (east). Plus there was a small market and excellent restaurant within a 3 minute walk. Back to the name. The term "cottages" implies separate structures, but all are part of one long building. But I suppose "apartments" or "condos" doesn't sound as good on the website. To be clear - this is more of an observation than a complaint. It wasn't really an issue for us, since we rarely saw or heard others during our entire stay. As to our...er, cottage, we stayed in "Skye", which was the last available and smallest of the four units. Though the small size made it all the cozier, there was no place at all to put our luggage, and the bed situation was disappointing. Namely - there was really no place for us to sleep side-by-side. The loft bed was too narrow for tossers-and-turners like us (and a serious logistical puzzle for nighttime bathroom visits) and the pull-out couch was actually two singles on different levels. We did love the small outdoor deck and shower, since both faced south, were sheltered from the wind, and offered pleasant views. The unit was also well-designed, with convenient placement of outlets and good wi-fi coverage. But given the choice to stay in the Skye unit again, I'd have to think hard about whether we'd rather try another Inn first. It's for this reason I can't give Dancing Coyote a full 5 stars. If we can make it back and stay in another unit, then maybe that rating will improve. (After all, I can only review what I experienced). read more

Love it! Love it! The view of the Bay and Elephant Mountain alone is worth it! The place is very quite. Sure if you have a full house and there are kids anywhere you go you will hear something. The place is very clean, the fridge has coffee, yogurts, eggs, juices, bagel and English muffin with jams, butter and cream cheese. Perfect little quick breakfast. I have stayed in 3 of the 4 cottages and they are all very special. I love the Beach cottage it is spacious, the Sky cottage is very cozy, I prefer to sleep downstairs myself and love the outside shower! So beautiful first thing in the morning! Birch is also my favorite. The beds are very cozy, the sheets smell great! I have stayed there during the weekend and during the week, the only time I heard cars was when I was outside on a Monday morning when people where going to work!!!! Other than that it is very quiet and you can't hear anything inside your cottage. The manager Janet was very helpful giving us information of where to go for hikes and restaurants. I highly recommend Salt Water just down the street and Blackbird Cafe has bagels with eggs, but since we had our own we bought some extra stuff and we were set! It is a beautiful place to come and relax, leave the city mentally behind! read more

We found this place based on Yelp reviews, and had a beyond wonderful experience. The cottages are basically town homes that someone in town told us were built by a local architect. All the windows and skylights do an excellent job of making the place feel very open. We stayed in the birch cottage, and loved how there is an upstairs loft that serves as the bedroom. The furnishings and even the art are tasteful, and fun. The fireplace came pre-stocked with kindling and firewood, so building a fire was as easy as lighting a match and only added to the coziness of the downstairs living room. The kitchen was perfectly stocked for a nice breakfast to get us going in the AM! The grounds of the place are just down from the main road (there's not tons of traffic in the area anyway), but because of all the foliage blocking the road you feel very secluded. The rest of the grounds are planted with a great assortment of flowering plants that give the place a Sunset magazine backyard feel, beautiful. read more

I decided to take a mini getaway from Oakland up to Pt. Reyes for an overnighter. I did my research and found Dancing Coyote Beach looked to be an amazing place to stay. I was right! It was extraordinary. There are only four cottages and I was fortunate to be the only person there on a Monday night which made my stay extra special. I felt like I was all alone far far away, yet the tiny town of Inverness is only a block away. I had a peep into all of the cottages while the housekeeper was still there. They are all amazing, quaint and charming. I stayed in the Skye cottage since it was just myself and thoroughly enjoyed it. It, as are the other cottages, is well lit and open with plenty of large windows, the fireplace kept me warm at night, the bed was ridiculously comfortable and great to wake up to a large window overlooking the bay, and the room was clean and comfy. The kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, and other kitchenware. I went to the market and bought food to cook for dinner. You may need to buy spices, only salt, pepper, and honey are provided. The refrigerator was stocked with an overabundance of breakfast foods. To my dismay, I even enjoyed the outdoor shower. Don't worry, it has a plastic top covering over it and a sliding curtain for some privacy. Wear one of the ultra soft robes to and from the shower. There are plenty of hooks for towels and robes. One reason I went to Pt. Reyes was to check out and photograph the shipwreck that I have seen so many photos of. Lo and behold, the shipwreck is right there, just off the property! This topped it all off for me! The property is so picturesque with plenty of chairs, patios, and nooks to escape and enjoy nature. The owner, Greg, is a sweetheart. He promptly responded to my concerns and questions. He even checked in on me to make sure I was comfortable via text, knowing I would be alone, since my friend cancelled at the last minute. I love this place and recommend it to everyone who wants a little getaway or a longer vacation! read more

I usually stay on the Marshall side of Tomales Bay but last summer I house/dog sat for a family on the Inverness side of the bay and discovered the Dancing Coyote Beach Cottages. Its impossible to tell how perfect and cozy this place is from Sir Francis Drake Blvd - then again I'm usually single mindedly on my way to Drakes Estero or Kehoe Beach. The cottages are cozy, warm, and simple. I had everything I needed in Skye Cottage. A sunny private patio, hot outdoor shower, fireplace, loft bed, and a trundle bed for unexpected guests. There's a gorgeous garden, sunny common space, private beach, and large BBQ for grilling oysters. The Inverness Market, the public library, and Saltwater is a 5 minute walk. Drakes Oyster Farm, gorgeous hikes, and Blue Water Kayak Rentals are a short drive away. Everything you need for a relaxing retreat. Solitude, simplicity, and beauty. read more

Incredible stay with my extended family - we took three units! The setting is amazing. Private sand beach!-Perfect base camp if you have kayaks/ paddle boards or if you're exploring Pt. Reyes Park. There's an outdoor fire pit overlooking Tomales Bay. You can even walk a short distance along the beach to check out an old beached fishing boat (be careful if you climb on board). You can even walk to a very nice restaurant Inside the units - I love the concept of stocking the place with everyday fresh items so you can prepare your own breakfast or snack - and it's all quality ( I think all local items). Also, love that the fireplace with the wood and kindling all set up for your first fire. And the assortment of boards games was great. Rooms are very clean, quiet, and cozy. I have absolutely no negative comments other than I'm sad I had to leave. I can't wait to come back! read more

Cozy, cute, romantic little cabin. No distractions except a lovely wildflower garden and views of Tomales Bay. No phone, no TV. Yay. We stayed here for three nights and we loved the way the tiny space was designed to use every inch, and felt both cozy and spacious. Looking at the stars through the bedroom skylight at nights was wonderful. We loved having the breakfast food left for us and not having to eat communally as in many B&B's. There are interesting walks to take and everything else (great food, hikes, all of Pt Reyes National Seashore) within a short drive. We love this area and felt like we'd made a great discovery with this place. read more

These cottages are really beautiful. We were in the area for a wedding and our friends had all the cottages rented out so I got to see each unit. The Skye unit that we were staying in was the smallest and also the cheapest. I wasn't into climbing up the ladder to the lofted bed so we stayed on the trundle bad downstairs and closed it up during the day. Each morning fresh eggs and muffins and granola would be replenished. If you used the fire, the logs and paper would be reset up so you could easily light another the next night. We had an infant staying with us and requested a pack and play but when we arrived and opened the pack and play up it was moldy and rusty. It was probably 40 years old or so. I called the manager and they quickly found a replacement for us that we could pickup about 3 minutes away from the cabin. That was very helpful and I appreciated the quick response to out predicament. I should just say that our cottage also only had an outdoor shower so on a chilly night you might think twice about showering. I showered in the morning and it was plenty warm by then to shower outside. If I was coming back I would definitively stay in the Beach Cabin. It was an epic view from the kitchen and the best views all around. I can't imagine anyone regretting their stay at these beautiful, rustic cabins. read more

You know when you find a gem and you want to praise them for having an amazing place but at the same time you want to keep it a secret? That's my quandary! So hopefully the prices stay sane and the next time I want to visit I am able to book a spot! Peaceful, beautiful, clean (and I'm picky about clean!) and with everything you need to have peaceful getaway. I loved the fresh eggs, granola, coffee, and yogurt every morning. I loved hearing the lapping waves as I fell asleep at night and the cozy fire for when it was cold. The two things I would change? Thicker more private curtains! The curtains are way too see through for a one bedroom cabin, at night, when you need to change your clothes. A better shower curtain for the outdoor shower- once again needs better privacy/ there was weirdo trying to get a peak while I was in the shower- went away once my husband came out though. I do think the outdoor shower is awesome though. And please replace the fox with the cockroach bug pattern picture! Weird- nobody wants cockroaches in their cabin/ even if it's just a picture! read more

We stayed in the Birch cottage and are planning to come back ASAP! We loved it. Everything was very clean, water tasted great out of the faucet, great hot water, very nice fireplace with TONS of wood, beautiful views from TONS of windows and skylights (you will be up with the sun with skylights directly over the bed + star gazing at night), breakfast foods in the fridge were great, kitchen was fully stocked for any cooking you want to do, coffee was amazing, very quiet, only heard the neighbors when they walked outside on the gravel walkways, free wifi was 30 Mbps. Nice market steps from the front door (closes at 7PM), most shops close in Inverness close around 5PM. We stocked up on snacks and dinner items and stayed in and just enjoyed hanging out in this cozy cottage. Lots of walks by the water and looking out over the water from the big deck. read more

The cottages have everything you need, including breakfast food (eggs, English muffins, orange juice, yogurt, oatmeal...) The fireplace and outdoor shower added to the fun. We especially liked the loft - soft bed, tangene pillows, beautiful view of the water and gardens and a sturdy ladder to get you to and fro. Dancing Coyote is also conveniently located near restaurants, small towns and plenty of nature. Enjoyed the redwoods on the way there and loved watching the sandpipers and egrets on the bay. From the note downstairs naming our housekeeper to the EO products in the bathroom, I knew I was staying at an establishment run by conscientious hosts. The comfortable bedding ensured a sound night of sleep for myself and my partner. We were also pleased to discover a few breakfast items lovingly left in the fridge the next morning. We spent a week in Acacia Cottage recently and it was such a great place. We are in the somewhat unique position of having a dog that my partner is allergic to, and it's hard for us to find dog friendly places that are cleaned well (so her allergies aren't as bad). Acacia Cottage was a pleasant surprise in this regard. All of the staff we interacted with were warm and professional, and when we had an issue (lost key) they responded promptly and graciously. The private beach is delightful and the deck overlooking Tomales Bay is wonderful. I was also pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the fold out bed was. We had a really nice 2 night stay in the Acacia cottage. The location is great with nice grounds and a waterfront deck. It's always a plus for us to find a dog friendly property, and our girl enjoyed watching the birds from our small private deck. The kitchens are stocked for breakfast every day and the fireplace was all set up for us both nights. Overall the vibe is quiet and cozy, if that's what you're looking for I would definitely recommend this place. read more

We have stayed at Dancing Coyote twice now. The cottages are comfortable with good quality sheets & towels and firm inviting beds. Cozy fireplace with wood provided, supplies left for a perfect breakfast (fresh locally made granola, eggs, butter, juice, jam, milk, coffee, toast!). Each cottage has a private deck out back and a communal deck out front to enjoy the stunning views. The only downside to this place is the constant noise of cars from the close road side location (unfortunately if your staying in Inverness this is impossible to avoid). Welcoming, clean, charming and very comfortable! The top choice in Inverness! read more
