While not a bedroom it is spectacular to sit in, and if in the mood to sleep on the couches and fall asleep with those views. Across the bridge is the spa deck and sitting in the spa under the trees is so relaxing Staying here is really amazing. The owner and his family are the nicest people but you probably won't see the since they want you to enjoy yourselves and the tranquility of the area. That recently changed thanks to the recent overnight accommodations provided by the Black Heron Inn. Located in Point Reyes Station, about a 5-minute drive from downtown, it's the perfect place to stay when exploring Point Reyes. I had done quite a bit of research on accommodations in the area, but the options seemed to either be way too expensive or way too "patchouli" for my taste. The Black Heron Inn was the perfect fit for me and my wife. They have three guest rooms, and due to the lack of availability of the other rooms, I selected the Grand View Suite. And what a "Grand View" it was. My strong suggestion is not to plan too much during the late afternoon because you'll want to open a bottle of wine and enjoy the view from the outdoor deck or the dining room table before heading off to dinner for some oysters. The clean and well appointed rooms have a small refrigerator, a small microwave, and a toaster as well as dishes and silverware, so make sure to bring some ready to eat food with you to store in the room since food is not provided. We personally picked up some breakfast savories and sweets from Brickmaiden Breads, and our mornings were set. Coffee is provided along with a Cuisinart Coffee maker. If you don't like your coffee black or enjoy creamers, be sure to pack some milk for the fridge. The proprietors are pretty hands-off when it comes to guest interaction (which is just fine), but they are very responsive if necessary. One thing I did learn while talking to them briefly was that they have a lot of repeat customers. Based on our recent stay, I can see why!

The email bounced because the mailbox was full, so we're posting the email we sent to Yelp. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Positives: * Quiet and peaceful. * Very nice view. * Useful kitchenette items: plates, cutlery, microwave, coffee maker (with Peet's coffee!), etc. Improvement suggestions: * The windows need washing, especially in the dining area. The view is one of the main attractions of your property, and it's a shame (and disappointing) to look through dirty windows. * There are cobwebs in areas in the room (example: next to the book case in the dining area), and outside on the deck and deck chairs. In fact, the Adirondack chairs on the deck were so dirty we didn't want to sit on them. * The room lighting is a mish-mash of incandescent, CFL, and LED, with different color temperatures. Suggest redoing the lighting with LED lights in the 3000 (warm light) color temperature. Also, the low-voltage puck lights in the soffit above the kitchen counter don't work. At least, we couldn't find a switch to turn them on. Fixing this would brighten up the kitchenette. * The handle on the right-side loft window is incapable of opening the window. (There's a small set screw meant to secure the handle to the window winding mechanism's shaft, and the screw is loose so the handle just spins on the shaft so the window doesn't open.) * The cushioning in the two table chairs in the dining area and the two reclining chairs in the living area is worn and compressed, so the cushioning is marginal. The chairs need to be reupholstered or replaced; they're basically worn out. Making these improvements would elevate the room from just okay to very good and make the relatively high room rate more reasonable.

I was able, per one of the housekeepers who let me in a few hours before check in. There were three (3) house keepers who were unbelievably kind and running ata hundred miles an hour. This is also not a traditional bed and breakfast. The common areas are sad and the kitchen unseemly. Smudge stained handles on cupboards and ice that tastes like it was made in someone's old freezer which gives it an odd taste. Pros: The jacuzzi tub in the room is amazing! Spacious and clean with plenty of bubble bath. Cons: Close to highway (also a 10 minute walk to town but on the highway so a little sketch) not a big deal when windows are closed but can't do that because there is no AC. And I'm pretty sure they leave the heater on often making very hot rooms. Very outdated bedding, towels, decor (think fake flowers), fridge (runs loud) and vibe Bedding and towels are washed in a strongly scented detergent. Carpet and rugs are tattered, stained and frankly, gross. (So the smell in the room is dust, age and detergent) Our room.had a large skylight in the bathroom area. Some may like this for light but you must be an early riser or don't mind full sun coming in the afternoon. It hadn't been clean in a while and there was no covering to block the light. A negative for us especially during a late afternoon bath. One had to be blinded unfortunately!! The room we were in had an accordion door for the toilet room offering no privacy and loud middle of the night visits. Dingy table covers and stained doilies cover every table top. The older furniture is fine and can add to the charm (leave coasters!) Base boards are chipped and paint is peeling. Screen for patio is really loud to open and came off the track several times. "Breakfast" was a little shocking to be honest. Breakfast (which is in your room fridge) consists of a plastic fruit cups or yogurt, frozen individually wrapped pastries, granola in a mason jar that looks ancient and some bagels that had freezer burn in ziploc baggies. There were some juices, individual trail mixes and cereal bowls from named brands. We sometimes grabbed the trail mix and yogurt but otherwise did not touch anything else. So different from traditional Bed and Breakfasts that have warm breakfasts and friendly hosts. We never saw either of these. ThIs rooms was 300+ a night. Definitely not worth that price. I'm happy to see they are going to be closed for repairs and upgrades. If they invest in this place, buying updated bedding/towels/decor/flooring, having warm breakfasts and present hosts, touching up paint and ditching the doilies and strong detergent, this place could be charming and valuable again.

The little decks in each room were charming with views of the courtyard and a glimpse of the hills. The host (who built this place) was very pleasant and welcoming. He lives on the property and is readily available. The large in-room tub was wonderful and hot water plentiful. The check in and check out hours are very reasonable. The kitchen downstairs is available with a microwave, and the dining room and common area is quite lovely as is the courtyard.space. There are indeed small refrigerators and a toaster in each room and for continental breakfast-- bagels with fixings, juice, and sweet rolls are provided. Unfortunately, there is no fresh fruit only plastic cups of "canned fruit" and all the provisions are bulk bought (probably frozen) rather than locally sourced (there are two marvelous bakeries in town.) there is complementary sparkling water as well (a nice touch.) On the negative side: The in-room Keurig needed to be descaled. There was paint wearing off in patches, one towel bar in my bathroom was torn out, leaving an unpatched hole. The industrial rug throughout the entire upstairs is stained, dirty, fraying, and disgusting. The wing back chair in my room was so broken down that I found it impossible to sit in comfortably. One of the "double hung" windows in my room needed repair and would not stay up. The screen on the slider was torn and frayed. The overhead fan in my friend's room was noisy and vibrated so much it was scary (no way to turn it down from 'high'.) Some of the furniture was very nice, "antique" cabinets and wardrobes but another dresser looked like it could have been picked up from the curb. It is close enough to town to walk there, but it would be dangerous because there's no sidewalk or shoulder to walk on and the roads are fairly narrow and windy. Conclusion: it's a nice place, but for the price it definitely needs to be updated with better chairs, some general repairs, and new flooring. Fresh fruit and real silverware for the continental breakfast would also help. And if the owner really wants to wow his guests, he could bring in scones from a downtown bakery.

We stayed in the Seal's unit, which is the largest of the 3. For the price it's tough to beat the location. The cabin sits on piers directly over the bay when the tide is up. You do get a bit of road noise due to the location directly off highway 1, but late at night, the road is not well traveled. The unit is cleaned by tenant's so it's not professionally cleaned. Still, it was not too bad. The unit could benefit from a new bed and perhaps some updated dishware. It would really pop with some new furnishings, but then the price would likely increase. Sitting out in the hot tub on a star filled night makes these issues are little more excusable. We had some outstanding food at Terrapin Creek Cafe and Spud Point Crab Co. If I have time, I may post reviews of these, but they hardly need the pub.

The only negatives for us were the shower was somewhat clogged and we weren't able to enjoy the hot tub because it needed cleaning and was slimy. We booked on extremely short notice, so we can't fault the owner for not having time to check on the unit before our arrival. He was easy to work with and responded very quickly to phone calls. We had hoped to use the available kayak, but ran short on time. If you are not looking for a 5 star, fancy hotel, this is your place. The relaxation factor of having your own space, combined with the reasonable price made this an ideal escape.

That said, if you're in Bodega Bay, hopefully you're spending most of your time exploring rather than sitting in your room! The rooms include mini fridges and a coffee station, and the lobby has a larger coffee and tea station as well as a microwave. Parking is located right outside your room, which makes loading and unloading easy. The location is also very convenient. It's within walking distance of a grocery store that has just about everything you might need, including a deli. The Birds Cafe is right across the street and serves coffee, delicious breakfasts, oysters, lobster rolls, and more - all with fantastic views. Overall, this is a great spot if you're looking for a comfortable stay with incredible views and easy access to everything Bodega Bay has to offer.

Our most recent experience was not great with newer employee (Gina). When we arrived on WED we were happy to get our keys to the Harbor House as it was our first time to stay in this house. We got into the house and we realized it smelled of gas. There was one burner that was taped off with do not use on the tape. It was obvious that the Inn was aware there was a problem, yet this was not taken care of properly prior to our arrival. We returned to the office to inform them with our concerns in the Harbor House. Gina let us know that she has had other guests with the same complaints but she said it had been recently serviced. She said if it made us feel better she could have the handyman come look at it again in the morning. She tried to reach the him, but there was no answer and she had to leave a message. Gina did assure us that the owners daughter had just stayed in the Harbor House with no complaints. We chose to stay the night and have the handyman check the stove in the morning. It was two days before the stove was checked so we were not able to use the heat or stove until Friday evening. The young man who worked on the stove let us know it was leaking gas because it was not fixed correctly. We also had some attitude from Gina when we tried to get 4 wash cloths and more coffee for the coffee maker. We also had to ask for toilet paper twice because we only had 2 spare rolls for 4 adults staying 5 nights (6 days). We should have been offered a discount for the 3 days we were not able to safely use the heater and stove due to the gas leak. We have decided that we will have to move on and find a new place to stay for our yearly vacation to Bodega Bay. I think things would have been handled differently had George or Steve been running the office that week. We are very lucky that the house did not blow up nor did we have poisoning due to the natural gas leak. Keeping all the windows open until it was properly serviced was difficult because it was so cold, but we are still here to share this story. Looking back on this we never should have stayed in the home but I am happy to be alive. We are just disappointed that our trip was not enjoyable and we paid extra to stay in the house when we would have had a better vacation just renting a room without these issues.

The biggest issues: * The rooms are not well insulated. - We could clearly hear normal conversations and footsteps from the room above us. The guests weren't being loud or inconsiderate. The building simply doesn't block sound well. We were woken up multiple times during the night and again early in the morning by people coming home or leaving. * The room felt run down and poorly maintained - There was mildew or mold all on the lower half of the living room curtains, dirt built up in the window sills, cobwebs around the ceiling and skylights, and obvious damage from an old skylight leak with warped, peeling paint that had never been properly repaired. * Missed simple towel requests - Our DELUX KING room came with only TWO bath towels and two hand towels. We politely asked for a few extra towels the first morning there. When we came back that afternoon, the towels had been replaced, but there were still only two bath towels and two hand towels, once again:( we had to walk down to the front desk building and ask for 2 more towels to bring back so we could both shower. * The pillows were dirty and smelled strongly of mildew - They had that unmistakable damp, musty smell like they'd been left wet for a long time. Since we arrived late the first night, we waited and asked the front desk the next AM if they could swap them out. Instead, they simply changed the pillowcases and left the same pillows. We ended up grabbing blankets from our car to wrap around them so we didn't have to smell them while we slept. That should never happen at any price point. It's just baseline to have clean bedding. * Grounds maintenance was poorly timed - On our first afternoon, the grounds crew was mowing with a ride-on mower that wasn't collecting the grass. They drove right up against our deck, covering the patio and lounge chairs with grass and dust. We had the sliding door open, so the debris blew straight into our room. We mentioned it to the front desk on our way out and asked if someone could sweep off the deck. They seemed surprised the mowing was happening on a Friday, which is one of the biggest check-in days. * We also woke up to pressure washing - Early Friday morning, we were greeted by the sound of the building next to ours being pressure washed. It seems like the kind of maintenance that could easily be scheduled during the middle of the week instead of during a busy check-in day. * Sub par restaurant experience - We had dinner at the restaurant our first night with a 6:45 reservation. We were seated on time, but no one came by to even take a drink order for about 20 minutes. We were told they were understaffed. Our food order wasn't taken until around 7:45, about an hour after we had been seated. When we finished dinner, we were immediately offered the check. We asked if there was dessert, and our server said, "Yes, it just hasn't been popular tonight." Our bill was around $250, so it was pretty clear we had come to enjoy a nice dinner, not just grab a quick bite. It felt like a missed opportunity to simply ask if we'd like to see the dessert menu or enjoy another course before ending the meal. I did appreciate seeing the GM helping bus tables during a busy service. That said, I was surprised to see him doing it in flip-flops, which didn't feel appropriate in a restaurant. I work in hospitality, so I understand that staffing challenges happen. But most of what we experienced didn't feel like a staffing issue. It felt like a lack of attention to maintenance, housekeeping, scheduling, and overall operations. The property has so much potential because the location is fantastic. Unfortunately, the guest experience simply doesn't match the price. With better operational planning and more attention to the condition of the rooms, this could be a wonderful place to stay. The room was quite spacious as well as the bathroom. They also have so many different activities you can do on the property. I took part in the yoga on the hill and it was amazing! They have mats you can borrow. They also have movies playing on Friday nights. We also did s'mores one night and met other hotel guests. I also loved they had Mable's on the property. Highly recommend for a getaway if from the Bay or if you are vacationing in the area, to visit this gem!
