Without looking at Yelp, I was told that hotels and motels were limited in the area and fill up quickly on weekends. On a gamble, I was able to book reservations for Thursday through Sunday stay the Tomales Hotel, the little town of Tamales To my surprise, there are no lobby and individuals in charge. You provided a code via email or phone, and different code for your room. These locks are touchy and nothing like the run of the mill combination locks. I was able, per one of the housekeepers who let me in a few hours before check in. There were three (3) house keepers who were unbelievably kind and running ata hundred miles an hour. This hotel has been remodeled that would make any proud. Clean neat as pin. Roomy, and all the pillows you could want and mattress to die for. Absolutely Awesome place. Bob - Sacramento, CA

The innkeeper, Bob, greeted us in person when we arrived around 11:30pm; He personally showed us to our room and calmly described how ordering breakfast worked, gave us wifi credentials, and then let us relax. If you're looking for upscale luxury, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for an exceptionally clean, cozy, and well run B&B than look no further. You're staying in a tranquil, untroubled place that persuades you to decompress and clear your mind. Notable Amenities: - WiFi - Feminine products in the bathroom - Novels and light music - Fireplace - Continental breakfast - Binoculars - Hiking backpack - Mini refrigerator What is provided to you promotes relaxation and exploring your surroundings. We spent our mornings in the room eating breakfast, listening to Claude Debussy and watching the mist clear over the bay. We then headed out to go kayaking all day, had oysters and champagne for dinner, then retreated back to the B&B to cozy up in front of the fire. *Note About Breakfast* Breakfast is brought to your room and includes the following: tea, orange juice, and an assortment of breads (blueberry, coffee, pumpkin, poppyseed, etc.) *Note About Your Surroundings* You are near a few restaurants, and a light breakfast is provided, otherwise not much is around. I would suggest bringing some fruits/veggies and other light snacks when you are out during the day.

We really wanted to love our stay because the property and setting are beautiful. Unfortunately,…read morethe experience didn't come close to justifying the $600+ per night price tag. The biggest issues: * The rooms are not well insulated. - We could clearly hear normal conversations and footsteps from the room above us. The guests weren't being loud or inconsiderate. The building simply doesn't block sound well. We were woken up multiple times during the night and again early in the morning by people coming home or leaving. * The room felt run down and poorly maintained - There was mildew or mold all on the lower half of the living room curtains, dirt built up in the window sills, cobwebs around the ceiling and skylights, and obvious damage from an old skylight leak with warped, peeling paint that had never been properly repaired. * Missed simple towel requests - Our DELUX KING room came with only TWO bath towels and two hand towels. We politely asked for a few extra towels the first morning there. When we came back that afternoon, the towels had been replaced, but there were still only two bath towels and two hand towels, once again:( we had to walk down to the front desk building and ask for 2 more towels to bring back so we could both shower. * The pillows were dirty and smelled strongly of mildew - They had that unmistakable damp, musty smell like they'd been left wet for a long time. Since we arrived late the first night, we waited and asked the front desk the next AM if they could swap them out. Instead, they simply changed the pillowcases and left the same pillows. We ended up grabbing blankets from our car to wrap around them so we didn't have to smell them while we slept. That should never happen at any price point. It's just baseline to have clean bedding. * Grounds maintenance was poorly timed - On our first afternoon, the grounds crew was mowing with a ride-on mower that wasn't collecting the grass. They drove right up against our deck, covering the patio and lounge chairs with grass and dust. We had the sliding door open, so the debris blew straight into our room. We mentioned it to the front desk on our way out and asked if someone could sweep off the deck. They seemed surprised the mowing was happening on a Friday, which is one of the biggest check-in days. * We also woke up to pressure washing - Early Friday morning, we were greeted by the sound of the building next to ours being pressure washed. It seems like the kind of maintenance that could easily be scheduled during the middle of the week instead of during a busy check-in day. * Sub par restaurant experience - We had dinner at the restaurant our first night with a 6:45 reservation. We were seated on time, but no one came by to even take a drink order for about 20 minutes. We were told they were understaffed. Our food order wasn't taken until around 7:45, about an hour after we had been seated. When we finished dinner, we were immediately offered the check. We asked if there was dessert, and our server said, "Yes, it just hasn't been popular tonight." Our bill was around $250, so it was pretty clear we had come to enjoy a nice dinner, not just grab a quick bite. It felt like a missed opportunity to simply ask if we'd like to see the dessert menu or enjoy another course before ending the meal. I did appreciate seeing the GM helping bus tables during a busy service. That said, I was surprised to see him doing it in flip-flops, which didn't feel appropriate in a restaurant. I work in hospitality, so I understand that staffing challenges happen. But most of what we experienced didn't feel like a staffing issue. It felt like a lack of attention to maintenance, housekeeping, scheduling, and overall operations. The property has so much potential because the location is fantastic. Unfortunately, the guest experience simply doesn't match the price. With better operational planning and more attention to the condition of the rooms, this could be a wonderful place to stay. As it stands today, I don't think the value is here.

The room was quite spacious as well as the bathroom. They also have so many different activities you can do on the property. I took part in the yoga on the hill and it was amazing! The shower was also great after spending the day hiking, delivering hot water nearly instantly. Clean room. We got fish and chips at the restaurant one night but they were just okay. I marked the room down by one star because we had a lot of trouble with noise. Not because other guests were partying; they were just walking around doing their own thing in their room. We knew this because the walls were very thin and their conversations carried, plus the raised subfloor magnifies footsteps as if you are in an apartment below a roller derby match. The constant noise kept our dog on edge, plus the doors to the rooms stick badly and are loud to open. Our dog kept thinking someone was opening our door, and it honestly caught me that way a few times too. If you like an extra firm mattress, you'll be happy with these. Our room had two doubles and was pretty cramped. Okay for an old married couple but with parents and kids it would be annoying. I'm including a pic of the "kitchenette" because we couldn't find any before we booked. It's fine if you are just bringing leftovers back to reheat later, but we ended up mostly using our ice chest because the fridge was so tiny. They did have an ice machine so that helped with keeping the ice chest cool.

There is nothing private about this room, which is tucked next to the carport of a large house and shares the yard with the house: no privacy at all! I highly advise you to LOOK ELSEWHERE if you want a clean, quiet and private get-away. There are plenty of other places to stay in the area: GIVE THIS ONE A MISS! We made the mistake of booking a weekend here, only to arrive, see what it really looks like, then immediately leave. Somehow, the website for this "Bed & Breakfast' fails to mention that this is a very tiny studio and the "Eurobed' is a uncomfortable, squeaky Murphy bed that effectively cuts the room in half when it's pulled down. But you'll need to move some furniture out of the way before you can even open the bed. There was no advertised 'down comforter' and the furnishings are very tired and dreary - think worn thrift store quality. Even the candles on the small dining table were dusty, burned down stubs. The kitchen area is tiny, with no room to work, and some of the appliances were located in areas you couldn't even plug them in! And the flatware that came out of the drawer was noticeably greasy and had to be washed before we could use them. The deck is also small and in heavy shade most of the day - there was a small cafe table and 2 chairs and two dusty lounge chairs you wouldn't want to use - certainly nothing like the B & B website photos. Hot tub is small but functional - but not truly private, as your view from the deck opens out to the owners backyard lawn and the monstrous house which is right next door. The gazebo on Inverness Bay has a lovely view, but it, like everything else here, is rough and beaten up - not a clean or comfortable place to hang out. There are many, many other nicer places to stay in Inverness and areas around Tomales Bay - this was the worst "Bed & Breakfast' or vacation rental of any kind we'd ever stayed at. Unless you don't care about ambiance and comfort, don't even consider staying here.

On your first night, there is continental breakfast left in the fridge. It's "adults only" and you couldn't comfortably fit more than two, anyway. There are three separate decks for reading, and you'll see little more than trees and the water in the distance (oh, and some birds who missed the glass and fly into it-it's okay-they all kept flying. I checked) It's even decked out in 70's decor to complete your childhood fantasy. The bed is super high, very soft, and I was pleased with the linens. The owners have also outfitted the house with every book on Point Reyes ever published. Quiet, peaceful-an absolute favorite.
