Each one is connected to a thick, hollow, densely-haired stem. She steers the huge leaves on their thick stems in her slender arms. Swipes away the poison oak. "Found a path to the creek," she says cheerily. Clear water riffles and splits around a shoal. It's sandy with willows and cattails. There is a great blue heron in the reeds. The heron saunters forward deceptively, like a starlet at the Croisette, then recoils its long neck and strikes. "Bill stab!" he exclaims. He purses his mouth, throws his arm up and makes a fist. FURNISHING We chose this cottage primary because it is dog friendly and because it has a kitchenette furnished with pots, pans, plates, bowls, and utensils (so we're not forced to eat out every meal). Here are some of the other nice things that we liked about the place: + hand-written welcome note + a basket of fresh chicken and duck eggs + free WiFi + private patio As well-appointed as the cottage is, it is by no means perfect. We got to see an active dairy farm, saw the calves being fed, and saw where the cows get milked. We also went to see a goat farm and saw a baby goat being born right in front of us. Alex, the guide, was lovely and super accommodating. My husband had hurt his ankle just the night before and couldn't walk much, and she made last-minute arrangements for him to be taken around by a golf cart-like vehicle on the farms. Our tour began at Cowgirl Creamery where we had an excellent assortment of pastries from local bakeries and local cheeses. We learned quite a bit about different types of cheese and how they're made. We visited Hog Island Oyster company and enjoyed fresh and barbecued oysters while learning about how oysters reproduce and are harvested. We then stopped off at The Marshall Store for lunch. The food was outstanding and abundant and the scenery looking out on Tomales Bay was breathtaking. We then visited the Heidrun Meadery (another stop with a breathtaking view and setting) and learned about bee keeping and how meade is produced from honey. And we enjoyed sampling a nice variety of meade wines. Our last stop was Little Wing Farm where we learned about organic, sustainable farming and saw a nice variety of vegetables and beautiful flowers. One of the highlights was visiting the expansive quail pen, watching the quails freely roam around and seeing how they spray a dye on their eggs to help camouflage them. This tour was a treat for our eyes and stomaches and filled our heads with fascinating information. It was a day so well spent and truly memorable for our family.

This is also not a traditional bed and breakfast. The common areas are sad and the kitchen unseemly. Smudge stained handles on cupboards and ice that tastes like it was made in someone's old freezer which gives it an odd taste. Pros: The jacuzzi tub in the room is amazing! Spacious and clean with plenty of bubble bath. Cons: Close to highway (also a 10 minute walk to town but on the highway so a little sketch) not a big deal when windows are closed but can't do that because there is no AC. And I'm pretty sure they leave the heater on often making very hot rooms. Very outdated bedding, towels, decor (think fake flowers), fridge (runs loud) and vibe Bedding and towels are washed in a strongly scented detergent. Carpet and rugs are tattered, stained and frankly, gross. (So the smell in the room is dust, age and detergent) Our room.had a large skylight in the bathroom area. Some may like this for light but you must be an early riser or don't mind full sun coming in the afternoon. It hadn't been clean in a while and there was no covering to block the light. A negative for us especially during a late afternoon bath. One had to be blinded unfortunately!! The room we were in had an accordion door for the toilet room offering no privacy and loud middle of the night visits. Dingy table covers and stained doilies cover every table top. The older furniture is fine and can add to the charm (leave coasters!) Base boards are chipped and paint is peeling. Screen for patio is really loud to open and came off the track several times. "Breakfast" was a little shocking to be honest. Breakfast (which is in your room fridge) consists of a plastic fruit cups or yogurt, frozen individually wrapped pastries, granola in a mason jar that looks ancient and some bagels that had freezer burn in ziploc baggies. There were some juices, individual trail mixes and cereal bowls from named brands. We sometimes grabbed the trail mix and yogurt but otherwise did not touch anything else. So different from traditional Bed and Breakfasts that have warm breakfasts and friendly hosts. We never saw either of these. ThIs rooms was 300+ a night. Definitely not worth that price. I'm happy to see they are going to be closed for repairs and upgrades. If they invest in this place, buying updated bedding/towels/decor/flooring, having warm breakfasts and present hosts, touching up paint and ditching the doilies and strong detergent, this place could be charming and valuable again.

The little decks in each room were charming with views of the courtyard and a glimpse of the hills. The host (who built this place) was very pleasant and welcoming. He lives on the property and is readily available. The large in-room tub was wonderful and hot water plentiful. The check in and check out hours are very reasonable. The kitchen downstairs is available with a microwave, and the dining room and common area is quite lovely as is the courtyard.space. There are indeed small refrigerators and a toaster in each room and for continental breakfast-- bagels with fixings, juice, and sweet rolls are provided. Unfortunately, there is no fresh fruit only plastic cups of "canned fruit" and all the provisions are bulk bought (probably frozen) rather than locally sourced (there are two marvelous bakeries in town.) there is complementary sparkling water as well (a nice touch.) On the negative side: The in-room Keurig needed to be descaled. There was paint wearing off in patches, one towel bar in my bathroom was torn out, leaving an unpatched hole. The industrial rug throughout the entire upstairs is stained, dirty, fraying, and disgusting. The wing back chair in my room was so broken down that I found it impossible to sit in comfortably. One of the "double hung" windows in my room needed repair and would not stay up. The screen on the slider was torn and frayed. The overhead fan in my friend's room was noisy and vibrated so much it was scary (no way to turn it down from 'high'.) Some of the furniture was very nice, "antique" cabinets and wardrobes but another dresser looked like it could have been picked up from the curb. It is close enough to town to walk there, but it would be dangerous because there's no sidewalk or shoulder to walk on and the roads are fairly narrow and windy. Conclusion: it's a nice place, but for the price it definitely needs to be updated with better chairs, some general repairs, and new flooring. Fresh fruit and real silverware for the continental breakfast would also help. And if the owner really wants to wow his guests, he could bring in scones from a downtown bakery.

I've been to about 10 B&B's and this has been the worst. The breakfast is very simple (did I mention spartan?) and we didn't feel any love from the innkeeper. This Swedish B&B has 3 guest rooms. The Dalarna room is very spacious (and spartan) for a couple and a baby. They do suggest that you bring a crib, they will charge you for a mattress if it is damaged by the baby (meaning poop, pee, etc). You have to request a TV and a cute old guy will come and put a 12 inch flat-screen in your room. It seemed like he was struggling to put the all the cords together, he was mumbling something and I didn't understand what he said about the cable channels. I don't know why they don't just leave the TVs in the rooms, it seems like a hassle for the old man. He's the only one who could do it too, the lady innkeeper will not do it! There is a small private patio outside, too bad the seats were dusty and had cobwebs. The bathroom must be for tall Swedish people because I could only see my forehead when I looked in the mirror. If you're 5 foot like me, make sure you bring a stool! The weekday breakfast was lame. There was only one other couple with us that week. On day 1, we had muffins (that was excellent, by that way), granola, berries, weird crackers, and a tiny plate of very thin slices of cucumber, tomato, and cheese. On day 2, we had scones, granola, cantaloupe, watermelon, the same weird crackers, and again thin slices of cucumber, tomato, and cheese. There were only 2 pieces of watermelon and 2 pieces of cantaloupe so we asked for more. The innkeeper said they didn't have anymore watermelon but gave us 2 small pieces of cantaloupe. Really?? Just 2??? How sad. It seemed as if the innkeeper didn't like having guests or she's just angry. We asked for ice and she said, "What for?" We asked for extra washcloths since we were there for 3 days and she said, "Oh you you didn't prepare for the baby?" I asked for another bath towel and she was obviously irritated. She knocked on the door 10 minutes before the checkout time and angrily reminded us that check out time was at 11:00. I asked if we could stay for 1/2 an hour because my baby was still sleeping and she said, "No, you're baby has to sleep in the car. I have the cleaners here, they have to clean now." Then she gave me a long lecture about check out times but I tuned out. What a cold-hearted woman!!!! The cleaners weren't even done with the other rooms, why couldn't we stay until they were ready for our room?!?! I would recommend this place because the farmhouse is lovely. If you don't mind a small, spartan breakfast then this place is great! But I'm warning you, the innkeeper doesn't want to be bothered by paying customers. Don't ask for anything and you'll be fine!

The experience of a B&B where the innkeeper guides you towards activities, local treasures and insider information and a friendly warm demeanor is entirely absent from this place. Stay away.

Then up to the main floor, the next floor up is two more bedrooms and a bathroom. The next floor up is the octagon room and has amazing views. While not a bedroom it is spectacular to sit in, and if in the mood to sleep on the couches and fall asleep with those views. Across the bridge is the spa deck and sitting in the spa under the trees is so relaxing Staying here is really amazing. The owner and his family are the nicest people but you probably won't see the since they want you to enjoy yourselves and the tranquility of the area. Great little market on the way with and a tap room next door. Point Reyes is a quant town with good meat, awesome cheese and some great places to eat.

To reach this room from the inside you get to climb a spiral stair case and open the door like an attic style, or you can do the boring way and enter in from outside. I say this is a great place for an anniversary unless you are stupid rich and can just afford this place for no particular reason.

Hiking from Limantour Rd. to Sky Camp is about as easy as backpacking gets at only a little over a…read moremile and only a short incline. There are many different ways in if you want a harder hike. Point Reyes is one of my favorite places to hike in the country. I highly recommend taking a trip there. Sky Camp is a lovely campground. It is up there so you have nice views of the ocean without the coastal winds. It's a open campground with many of the campsites feeling very private. We stayed at campsite #10, which had a nice view. The best views seemed to be #'s 10, 11, and 1 (which is not as private). Other notable sites for larger groups if you want more privacy then the group site offers are #6 which is in the shade and #8 and #9 which have a small trail between them. I am not giving Sky Camp 5 stars because my favorite place to camp in Point Reyes is Wildcat.

This site was very spacious - we fit three tents and could have easily fit a few more. It does border on another campsite and there is no complete privacy, but they are bigger sites, so it wasn't really an issue. #5 was totally shaded, but there are other sites with more sun, if you'd prefer. We had great weather, but the camp remained cool all day... and then the fog rolled in around 7PM and it was cold!! It also rained on us, but it wasn't bad... added some ambiance. The hiking around this camp is great, and there even a shorter 2.5 mile loop if you are tuckered out from the hike in. While Sky Camp doesn't have the beach that Coast Camp boasts, the campsites and general location are amazing.

I've cycled a lot around Point Reyes and taken many one-day road trips, but I've never really…read moreexplored the area extensively due to a lack of time. That recently changed thanks to the recent overnight accommodations provided by the Black Heron Inn. Located in Point Reyes Station, about a 5-minute drive from downtown, it's the perfect place to stay when exploring Point Reyes. I had done quite a bit of research on accommodations in the area, but the options seemed to either be way too expensive or way too "patchouli" for my taste. The Black Heron Inn was the perfect fit for me and my wife. They have three guest rooms, and due to the lack of availability of the other rooms, I selected the Grand View Suite. And what a "Grand View" it was. My strong suggestion is not to plan too much during the late afternoon because you'll want to open a bottle of wine and enjoy the view from the outdoor deck or the dining room table before heading off to dinner for some oysters. The clean and well appointed rooms have a small refrigerator, a small microwave, and a toaster as well as dishes and silverware, so make sure to bring some ready to eat food with you to store in the room since food is not provided. We personally picked up some breakfast savories and sweets from Brickmaiden Breads, and our mornings were set. Coffee is provided along with a Cuisinart Coffee maker. If you don't like your coffee black or enjoy creamers, be sure to pack some milk for the fridge. The proprietors are pretty hands-off when it comes to guest interaction (which is just fine), but they are very responsive if necessary. One thing I did learn while talking to them briefly was that they have a lot of repeat customers. Based on our recent stay, I can see why!

The email bounced because the mailbox was full, so we're posting the email we sent to Yelp. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Positives: * Quiet and peaceful. * Very nice view. * Useful kitchenette items: plates, cutlery, microwave, coffee maker (with Peet's coffee!), etc. Improvement suggestions: * The windows need washing, especially in the dining area. The view is one of the main attractions of your property, and it's a shame (and disappointing) to look through dirty windows. * There are cobwebs in areas in the room (example: next to the book case in the dining area), and outside on the deck and deck chairs. In fact, the Adirondack chairs on the deck were so dirty we didn't want to sit on them. * The room lighting is a mish-mash of incandescent, CFL, and LED, with different color temperatures. Suggest redoing the lighting with LED lights in the 3000 (warm light) color temperature. Also, the low-voltage puck lights in the soffit above the kitchen counter don't work. At least, we couldn't find a switch to turn them on. Fixing this would brighten up the kitchenette. * The handle on the right-side loft window is incapable of opening the window. (There's a small set screw meant to secure the handle to the window winding mechanism's shaft, and the screw is loose so the handle just spins on the shaft so the window doesn't open.) * The cushioning in the two table chairs in the dining area and the two reclining chairs in the living area is worn and compressed, so the cushioning is marginal. The chairs need to be reupholstered or replaced; they're basically worn out. Making these improvements would elevate the room from just okay to very good and make the relatively high room rate more reasonable.
