Wonderful B&B! My fiance and I just got home from a stay at the Cottage Inn of Mackinac Island,…read moreand I can't think of a better place to stay. They do book up quickly, so the room we had originally wanted wasn't available, but the Mackinac Suite up on the 3rd floor was perfect. It was a little more expensive than we had planned per night, but luckily we were able to get our third night free due to a "Buy 2, get one night free" special... so the overall cost was the same or cheaper than we paid at the Chippewa the year before. Walking into the Cottage Inn, it's a pretty little place, and conveniently located three buildings down from the corner of Market & Fort. We could hear the cannons, rifles, and bugles from the Fort during the day, which was nice and relaxing... even the cannons were relaxing at that distance! It was a nice touch to feel like you were "back" in that era a little bit. The room we stayed in, The Mackinac Suite, was awesome. Walking into the suite, the first room has a queen-sized, an end table, a mini-fridge, a ceiling fan, and a large closet. To the left was the "master" bedroom... which also had a queen-sized bed. It also had a dresser, a flat screen tv with built in dvd player, a couple of end tables with lamps, a ceiling fan at, a large window with a great view of the street, and a bathroom with a stand up shower. Going back out to the main room, the other doorway leads to the turret sitting room. The sitting room had a great view of the fort, along with three comfy chairs, a table, and a flat screen tv with a built in tv player. There was also a ceiling fan. There are ceiling fans in every room there, I think! We spent evenings in the sitting room, watching dvds (thoughtfully provided by the B&B - they have a selection downstairs that you can borrow) and relaxing. I have to admit that we never made it to breakfast, so I can't comment on that... but I heard that it was good! Also, at 3pm they bring out treats from a local fudge shop, so there is peanut brittle, caramel corn, and fudge to snack on. They also have coffee, tea, and water on hand throughout the day. Rich & Marge, the owners, were very nice and helpful as well. They provided suggestions on a few restaurants on the island, as well as copies of menus so that we could see what was offered. They also were able to provide me with a 10% off discount to the Lilac Spa, as well as discount coupons for several area restaurants. Michelle, who took care of cleaning our rooms, was great, and are rooms were cleaner than in most hotels that I've stayed at. Danny & I will be back at the Cottage Inn... and I highly recommend others to try it out as well!

Pretty cool place overall! Always a very clean, happy, comfortable environment. The innkeepers and…read morethe front desk are the nicest people. Breakfast is always a fun experience, although it gets pretty annoying having the SAME breakfast every morning. I feel like no one knows how to cook here. It doesn't even taste that great, you get like baked eggs EVERY morning which aren't that good with either muffins or cookies. Never changes. I mean if that's all your going to cook then it should at least taste good. No toppings for bagels either. I'm tempted to just never eat breakfast here and go spend my money on a restaurant. I mean I did pay for a bed and BREAKFAST. It's really making me consider other hotels on the island. I'd like to see more options and recipes.

We had a sitting room, king-sized bed, and whirlpool. Our private deck provided a view of Lake Huron. We only stayed one night so we only got to enjoy one breakfast. We had sausage, cheesy potatoes, fresh fruit and a cinnamon roll. It was wonderful. Seating is between 8-9:30am. A self-serve coffee/tea bar is available 24/7. As an added bonus, they serve dessert from 7-8pm nightly. We got to enjoy that one night as well. Dessert was a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and caramel. Omg, it was so good. We really should have spilt one as they were huge. The place was in a great location. It was a short walk to the Mackinac Island ferry. We walked to a dinner spot. All the shops were only a short walk away. We got there early (before our room was ready) and they allowed us to park in their lot so we didn't have to pay for parking in the ferry lot. Finally, the staff was absolutely wonderful. So helpful. So welcoming. Whatever you needed, they were there for you. The place is spotless. The food is amazing. So glad we stayed.

What a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing, comfortable little inn! Just one street removed from the main drag, staying here means you'll have all the convenience of hanging near the action, but none of the noise and congestion. Granted, you have to walk up a small hill, but it is quite manageable, even after a night of pub-pedaling (like a pub crawl but on a bicycle!) Forget that fancy place with the big front porch, I love the far less expensive, cozy little red and white Hart's Inn! Making a reservation by phone was easy and checking in and out meant simply picking up and dropping off keys. The room was pristine, bright and cheery. We slept like logs in a very comfy bed with the in-room a/c set just where we like it. We took breakfast the next morning al fresco under one of the bright red umbrellas. The landscaping and lawn is colorful and lush. It was like eating in a garden. I loved the big white mugs filled with plenty of steaming, strong coffee. Pierre, the young on-site manager was very personable and helpful. He did a wonderful job of making sure all was in good order. After breakfast we took a bike ride around the island then checked out and left our bags with Pierre while we did a little more exploring. I love that Hart's Inn does not require a two night minimum stay. We wish it could have been longer but we only had one night available on our itinerary. Make sure to request a room that opens onto the lawn.

Kristen (the innkeeper) had a couple of interns (Bess and Tara) with her during our stay. All of them were helpful and friendly. The weekend was unseasonably cold, so we spent a lot of time in our cozy garden suite. Breakfast in our room both mornings was wonderful, and Kristen even told my friend the secret to her delicious coffee (I don't drink coffee and was only ordering so my friend would have double! LOL). I was initially really excited at the availability of Grand Hotel passes, since I've never been inside, but we never really ventured that far in the cold. After having such a great weekend even in miserable weather, I'm looking forward to heading back again with the family this summer.
