We recently visited Mackinaw City and stayed at the Brigadoon Bed & Breakfast. This is a beautiful bed and breakfast which is conveniently located (within walking distance) of the ferry, the river, and shopping. We had a nice room with a King size bed and a fireplace, but be advised: our room was on the third floor and there are no elevators. Breakfast, afternoon cookies, and evening dessert are offered to guests and the food was very good. We enjoyed quiche, omelettes, and French toast at breakfast and cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, and ice cream for dessert. The staff was very friendly. This is a good option for visitors to the area who prefer to stay on the Mackinaw City side of the island.

Charming place! Staff is attentive at all times, room clean and comfortable. Breakfast nice, fresh coffee out all the time. Great location!

Oh my gosh! I have traveled a lot in my life, and I have never stayed anywhere like this before. The whole experience was amazing. The welcome, the room, the dessert, the breakfast. W O W. The description and pictures don't do full justice. The place is a gorgeous yellow Victorian with white trim. Beautiful landscaping. Literally a block from the ferry to the island and within easy walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops, in a very nice neighborhood. The lobby has a fireplace and comfy chairs. The breakfast room has a whole wall of windows. We stayed in the Sara Suite- king bed, whirlpool tub. Sooooo pretty and comfortable.

Five star treatment on every level. As far as I'm concerned, Brigadoon is everything a quality bed and breakfast inn should be. Judging from the facade alone, I figured it would be nice, but I couldn't anticipate just how nice and welcoming it would be until we walked inside. Honestly, it felt like we had crossed a threshold into a different time and place, away from the hub of tourist activity only a few yards away. I don't know, it just felt different and I liked that. As someone who appreciates the old world feel of a traditional B & B, I knew I would like it immediately, but I must say that it exceeded my expectations, which were already high to begin with. I was blown away by the level of hospitality, cleanliness and attractive surroundings. Everything about this place was lovely and there was literally nothing that I can complain about and I usually find something that I don't necessarily like, but in this instance, I couldn't. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the one of the owners, who showed us the grand tour right off the bat. She was warm, friendly and knew where everything of interest was located not only within Mackinaw City, but on the island as well (her family also operates a "sister" B & B on the island). If we needed anything, she was on hand to help. She was what a B & B innkeeper should be- helpful, hospitable and knowledgeable. She was the perfect hostess. Not only did we feel welcomed by her, but by the inn's sunny yellow facade and lavish gardens, which beckoned us inside. Our guest room was perfect, with heated marble floors (what I wouldn't give for that at home), a fireplace and a private bathroom. I thought it was tastefully decorated and comfortably appointed, just like the dining and lounging areas downstairs. The view of the water was incredible, definitely not something I've found at most of the lower-priced properties around Mackinaw City, except for the ones situated along the shoreline. In the morning, they served an enviable gourmet breakfast, definitely not your typical free continental breakfast fare at the other mid-price hotels in the area. What a refreshing change! We even got piping hot homemade cookies as a snack later on. Wow, that's the personal touch, better than waking up to chocolates or a mint on the pillow. They didn't serve a traditional dinner, but instead offered up dessert in the evening. The rest of the time, we were on your own to do as we pleased, including dine out, shop, ride bikes or whatnot. In truth, the grounds are so nice and the inn so comfortably appointed that there isn't much reason to leave, except maybe to grab dinner somewhere or take in a view of the bridge lit up at night. It felt like a bit of retreat, like a way to recharge the batteries, so to speak. The location was fantastic, close to the water and near the hubbub or shopping and dining, but it also felt like it was a world away as well. Despite its close proximity to downtown, it seemed like we were much farther away while we were on the inn's property because it was just so tranquil, a true idyll. As for the room rates, I won't lie, it probably isn't for the cheapskate who demands the best deal around, no matter what. I didn't think it was that expensive, but it wasn't exactly a budget-friendly spot in an already pricey tourist market, either. My husband and I have stayed at the Grand Hotel on the island a few times, so the price tag here didn't seem unjustified to us. We both felt it was well worth the money. If you don't want to pay about $200 a night, then you might want to look elsewhere, but if you want more than just a place to hang your hat while visiting the area, then this would probably be something you might enjoy. I know that my husband and I loved it and can't wait to go back in the spring. A word to the wise- room rates are much lower after mid-September until closing for the season, Nov. 1 (they are not open year-round), so if cost is a big concern, booking during the last month of the season is a good option. This is an ideal spot to mark a special occasion, like a wedding anniversary or a honeymoon (or even a second honeymoon). It struck me as the perfect place for an impromptu romantic getaway with that special someone. I wish I had bothered to check out Brigadoon before now. I probably wouldn't have wasted money on a few of the hotels I've stayed at over the years, but you know what they say about hindsight.

First time staying at a B&B, so not much expectations going in and a little hesitant on what to expect. But I was BLOWN away! My husband and I booked on the phone and it was easy. We called about 2 months in advance to book our weekend for beginning of August and they were almost already booked. We decided on suite 302 and we were warned of a spiral staircase. There was a deposit involved which was a bit steep and then the entire bill was due 10 days prior. The Brigadoon is such a cute place with the yellow and green, very bright and inviting on the outside. The inside is a bit darker though and felt heavier with the decor. We were greeted at the front desk and were told breakfast is from 800am-930am, while dessert is from 800pm-900pm. The journey to our suite 302 was a bit long and there are no elevators or help from staff to carry your bags. So my lovely husband got the task of going up two flights of stairs and then a spiral staircase to then get to our room. Suite 302 is nice though because you are in your own wing of the house and it is private. The room was clean, but had a strange smell to it. My husband thought it was moth balls, but I couldn't put my finger on it (or should I say nose?). Once you got in the room you got used to the smell, but I smelled it each time I walked in. Air conditioning unit only in the master bedroom side while sitting area doesn't have AC, so you could tell the difference in temp. There is a fireplace in the sitting room area, but in the dead of summer wasn't put to use. The amenities were nice with a fridge, microwave, and wine glasses. The bed was a king and pretty comfy. Flat screen TV and mini balcony. I say mini because you are sitting within the arch of the roof. If we were any bigger or taller I don't think we could sit out there comfortably. But the view was nice and able to see Lake Huron. Again the room looked and felt very clean. But then again the decor was heavy with reds, greens, and wallpaper. The bathroom had marble floors, which again was a nice touch. The breakfast was amazing, so so so amazing, I cannot say it enough! Homemade yummy french toast one day and then a quiche another morning. They always have coffee and tea anytime and during the afternoon cookies were out. Dessert we got to enjoy was cheesecake and a very decent piece. It was nice that they have separate dining room tables, so you don't have to awkwardly sit with other guest (I know I am more anti-social than most). The B&B is a great location being only 3-5 minute walk from the shops and food of Mackinaw City. Very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Of course it is a bit more expensive, but with the service and food as well as great location it is worth it. A couple cons (I know I am picky): They do have wifi, but I do not think the wifi was strong enough to get to our room on the third floor. Also no great cell phone charges on the sides of the beds, I had to plug my phone in the cove of the sitting area. The keys to the room are charming, but our door kept sticking and I gave up each time I tried to use it. Lastly, having to pay for the bill 10 days in advance of your stay is a bit much. I know there are only 8 rooms, but if something terrible happened and you couldn't make it, then you are essentially screwed out of a big chunk of change.

Off-season and a deal. The location is another stellar draw. It's right on the water. Nice playground, sandy beach, area to wade in if you desire and fire pits. Wood comes at a close by location and you must purchase it and bring it to the site. The view of the bridge at night and the sunrise in the morning is amazing. I enjoyed walking along the water morning and at dusk. The outside of the motel is more attractive than the dated, yet-to-be-remodeled smallish rooms. The outside area is well kept, simple and appears to be safe. Cars close to rooms are a convenience. The check in procedures were quick and easy. Really nice staff. Our cable box was not working. The staff member who fixed it was slow to arrive but polite and efficient. Our room was small. It was "cozy" and met our needs. Most important, it was clean dated. Needs a good paint job and carpet cleaning. The tiled bathroom was attractive. Clean. Small shower with warmish water. Clean towels. The water is well-water and smells like well water. Has also stained the white porcelain, as would be expected. The bed was quite comfortable. Clean linen. We didn't plan on spending time in our room. This venue met our needs. We enjoyed the town and outdoors and then returned to a clean, spartan, inexpensive room in a beautiful location. The traffic during peak season likely overwhelms the staffing resources, hence, the poor reviews. Keep that in mind when traveling. Once you reserve, you are stuck with the room if you don't cancel 24-hours in advance.

Our TV was broken, but we weren't in the room long enough to care. Beds are comfortable and clean. The water right on the beach was real sandy and rocky, so just be cautious of that, but really beautiful view of the bridge, and town. There's also a fireplace which we loved. There was a person there to check in and check out, and they were very nice. It wasn't perfect, but we enjoyed our stay.

This property and its price was a blessing on this day as I took the last room apparently with a single bed. I booked at 3 pm on the day before the property closed for the season. Please express my gratitude to the kind young man at the desk on my arrival on 10/24 for his empathy and kind words to me coming from a unpleasant situation. Arriving here was like a warm hug from a friend, it was warm, friendly and clean. The noise issues that were a major factor at the other hotel were not an issue here. I decided that outdoor corridors and me are not ever going to happen again. It is not what I want from a hotel experience Due to the pandemic, only the pool was open not the hot tub even though it looked good, I didn't go there. Also coffee pots have been removed from the rooms due to cleaning issues, but the lobby had fresh tasty coffee brewing and available. I appreciated the variety of the creamers and sweetners. My room was very large as it was handicap accessible which was ok as it was likely others would have been settled at this stage unlike me. I also like the more spacious parking spots and overall apoearance. It is more centrally licated to popular spots but being October and snow flurries I drove. BC pizza delivers and that is a nice perk as their food is good. Thank you for the grab and go type breakfast which you get at the counter from 7-10am that day I stayed. It is nice to have some options for travelers in the pandemic. I chose apple juice, raspberry yogurt and an apple cinnamon muffin which were all prepackaged. It is a safe and appreciated gesture. Bring a can of out door bug spray. Beautiful lake view, beautiful beach. The bedspread was worn with stains but it was clean. The sliding door to the patio did not lock properly. Only 1 elevator for this massive size hotel. Plenty of carts to transport your luggage. The Comfort Inn Motel is connected to this hotel as well. Dining hall: buffet style. Plenty of options (powdered eggs, Canadian bacon, cereal, breakfast bars, fruit coctails, pancakes, waffles, muffins, coffee, juice, y3a, etc.) Dining hall is huge as it is shared by both hotels (Comfort Inn and Hamilton Inn). Its a bit dark and gloomy in the room. Hall ways are sometimes blocked by large cleaning carts and some of the house keepers look at you strange when you move them out your way. They do not have any room door signs for do not disturb. The swimming pool water was not clear. Very cloudy. The hot tub at one point had lots of suds. Its wasn't the cleanest area. Plenty of parking. Side and outter doors need better security as anyone could walk in off the parking lot or beach and enter the facility. Desk Service (3 women). They are not the friendliest. The supervisor is the worst of them all. She appeared to be very bossy and boarderline unprofessional to her coworkers. They talk to you like you did something wrong if you ask a question. A group of 12 of us (separate rooms) stayed for two weeks on government business (orders). 2 colleagues had to leave halfway through the stay because their orders changed. They went to check out and the staff at the front desk told them they could leave but would still be charged for the entire two weeks. The reason was because we signed and acknowledged that we could not cancel any part of the stay. We asked to talk to the manager and when we brought up the situation she was very rude about the entire thing. Continued to repeat that we had signed a contract and they wouldn't budge. I asked to talk to her supervisor but she said her supervisor was the owner and that she was the liaison between the owner and guests. She also informed me that the owner would not say anything different because it was his rule and he wouldn't budge. Needless to say, we will not be staying at this hotel and we will work on getting them taken off the government list of approved hotels. The room is very outdated, looks like something from the 70's. Has not been updated in a very long time. The outlets in the room are all in a very inconvenient place, and the WiFi is terrible (bare minimum WiFi). The door didn't want to close and I had to redo my key 3 separate times. A colleague changed his key more and they finally had to come and change the entire lock out. They advertise breakfast but it was a joke. All they had was ham in water (taste was terrible), rubbery pre-made pancakes, hard boiled eggs. The Coffee was good, but breakfast was only from 7-9 which was very inconvenient such a short amount of time. The pool and hot tub not very clean but at least they were open. Gym was small but ok. Their washer/dryer's (laundry room) was out of service so we had to walk down to the Hamilton hotel and do laundry. Then when we finally checked out, the hotel charged us tax even though it was supposed to be tax exempt. And my choice reward number had been removed so I wasn't getting credit for the stay. I had to call and get it added back again. The tax issue is on going, I had to send an email to get it removed. All in all I would not ever recommend staying at this hotel. When the owner has no concern for the customers/guests and really only cares about how much money he makes. The same family owns all of the hotels and most of the Restaurants in Mackinaw City so they don't care about their customers or the military. I recommend stay at Holiday Inn, Lighthouse View Motel, or Rainbow Motel.

I included this note in the review because you will probably book through the Mackinaw City website, which does not fully emphasize how many businesses and attractions are closed November-April. If you visit during the off season, plan on crossing the bridge to St. Ignace or driving 45 minutes to Petoskey for more food/shopping choices.*** [Staff/Service] Check-in staff was friendly, but not particularly helpful. We were given wrong directions for accessing the waterpark, which resulted in taking an elevator to the third floor only to walk back down three flights of stairs to the park when our room was maybe 200 feet from the main entrance. The other desk clerk we interacted with was new, but helpful when we needed batteries for a TV remote. [Cleanliness] The room was very clean. However, my son did find a leftover marijuana cone in the back of a dresser drawer. [Space] The room was very spacious. We booked a suite, and 3 adults + 2 kids were comfortable the whole stay. [Decor] Room decor was minimal and outdated, BUT the low prices of this hotel also don't attract the kind of clientele who respect the property. More modern decor would be nice, but I understand not investing in too much here. [Furniture/Bedding] The mattresses seemed new. Bedding was very clean and comfortable. The furniture is outdated and worn, but sturdy. As with decor, I don't blame the owners for not investing heavily in new furniture. [Noise] It was still the off season, so it was pretty quiet most of the time. A few other guests did get loud sitting on the balconies, but again... the low prices attract a "variety" of visitors. We saw a lot of empty alcohol and cigarette trash around the parking lot every morning, and saw multiple families (with children) carrying baggies of marijuana into their rooms. So... [Location] It's Mackinaw City... During the regular season, it has great access to everything. In the off-season, expect to travel to St. Ignace or Petsokey for food/shopping. [Price] Incredible value! A 2 bedroom suite with waterpark included for three nights was HALF the price of a one-night stay at most other waterparks. It is very budget-friendly, and perfect for kids up to probably 13. The pool is large, and the hot tub is basically a pool itself, so great for adults. [Food] Huge disappointment here. The website for this specific hotel states "updated breakfast room", but there is NO breakfast at this hotel. In the off season (Nov-April), there are only two nearby restaurants with breakfast, one of them being a high-priced saloon. Plan to pack breakfast items or drive across the Mackinac Bridge to St. Ignace. [General] It's a budget-friendly, family-friendly hotel with a nice indoor waterpark. A bit outdated and in need of some repairs, but don't let that deter you from visiting. In the future, we plan to visit after May, when more attractions are open.

Rooms were dank, humid, a/c was incredibly loud and came on every 3 minutes. Last night cost $140 more (weekend?) but we had to change rooms. They may have a gym on the second floor because we heard people's heavy running all night. And there was always vacuuming until 8-9 o'clock and the dirty cart right outside our door. Nice desk lady but unable to help us get better rates, even though she told us how we MIGHT have saved a hundred bucks or more. My wife wanted me to suggest that occasionally staff should clean out the dead bugs that have accumulated in the lights above the sink. We apparently paid extra for a hot tub we didnt want; i wouldn't get near that petri dish on a bet. Yech!! We'll plan better next time and stay on the island.

Where should I start! This place needs a lot of TLC!…read moreHallways have a musky smell, and the whole place needs a serious deep cleaning and some serious updating! I came here for a quick get away for a romantic weekend, this is not the place for anything romantic! This is more for a couple with 4 kids on a budget looking to get away cheap to a crappy hotel with good AC and no bugs! I saw the name Ramada and assumed they must be nice.Obviously the name no longer means anything, they used to have integrity years ago and would have never associated their name with a hotel like this. I booked a room at the Ramada next month in Ohio, but I am now considering canceling it,because Im afraid of what the place will look like. The 1st day I had no hot water in my sink, water pressure was very low in the shower. There was 3 lights above the sink, 2 of them were out.I was told when I checked in that they no longer serve breakfast until further notice! If you want any service to your room other than towel replacements, you need to let them know the night before. Next time I come hete I will pay the extra money and stay on the island.I can't believe believe Ramada affiliates itself with this hotel@
